Perkins is definitely not the cheapest for garage floors but you do get what you pay for; the stellar customer service & top notch product. There is a reason the builder of our community chose Perkins as the preferred garage floor coating sub. We missed the "builder option" boat so we contacted Perkins directly. Paul, the owner, helped us with our project from beginning to end. The project itself was a very simple one; a two car garage in what was an almost brand new home. The challenge was the scheduling/timing of the work to coincide with a number of variables; mainly a floating close of escrow date while working around three other contractors. To make a long story short, Paul and the Perkins team handled all of the challenges in stride and got the job done even though there were scheduling challenges due to our close of escrow being delayed a few days. The floor comes with an industry leading 15-yr warranty and it is apparent the coating will last at least the duration of that period and beyond once we saw and felt the quality of the finished product. My garage floor was a mess so I finally decided to have an epoxy coating on it. I got 3 bids and after meeting with Perkins I knew they were the company I wanted to go with. Don't let their San Diego address keep you from knowing they will come to all desert cities. I am in Rancho Mirage, CA. they scheduled the work to be done and called a few days before to confirm. They arrived exactly as scheduled. They helped me (a single woman) move everything out of the garage including a refrigerator and cabinets. Then they went to work. Finished in about 4 hours the first day and were so neat and clean and professional. They came back the next morning again exactly on time to apply the finish coating and were gone in probably less than 2 hours leaving me with a beautiful garage floor. Almost did not want to drive my car on it but I finally did and I just love it. I keep opening the door to look at the floor. I cannot recommend this company enough. Thanks Paul. read more

Great garage floor at a reasonable price with an amazing product. Paul was prompt to his estimate appointment and explained the plethora of options to us. Although willing to perform the originally desired basic epoxy flooring, he was open and candid about the results and longevity of the product. Never did I feel pressured to upgrade to the better Spartaflex product and Paul retained a professional demeanor throughout our communications. Eventually after settling on the premium flooring, Perkins arrived as scheduled and planned. Paul's team did it right - they tested for slab moisture, repaired any cracks, they diamond grinded the floor to enhance adhesion of the product to the flooring, and they were courteous enough to cover up my belongings/fixtures above floor-level to prevent flooring material from contaminating it. What shocked me the most was the end result given the work was conducted during the rain (humidity was high). I was convinced the higher moisture content during these atmospheric conditions would create problems, but Paul's team managed the worksite accordingly such that there were no issues. Now with the completed product I continually get positive comments about the aesthetic of our garage flooring. Thanks Perkins Custom Coatings! *I would be remiss if I did not mention this is a 1-month post-coating update and there are many variables that could factor into the flooring's future performance and reliability, but so far, I am a happy camper. For you technical/scientific types, the most accurate test of the floor's quality will occur this spring when the soil is damp and low humidity is forecasted. The dry air will draw moisture up through the concrete and if the flooring was installed properly, it should be satisfactory for years of utilization. Summer will also be a great test for hot tire pickup given SoCal roads will be hot-hot-hot. Following a series of recent heavy rain, our garage suffered from several instances of water intrusion. We called in two leak specialists, who couldn't figure out the source of the flooding. Following the recommendations given to us by a neighbor, we then called Paul Frankel. By the time he knocked our door, he had already examined the situation and had some idea. The water most likely came from the next house located slightly above us on the hill. He didn't hesitate to visit our neighbors right away, and he quickly identified several shortcomings in their drain system. He talked with them, who were nice enough to give us full cooperation to fix the situation, so the problem is finally solved. I recently engaged Perkins Custom Coatings to cover my garage floor with their incredible polyaspartic finish. From the moment I connected with Jimmy, the owner of the company, to the completion of the project, I have been enormously impressed with their responsiveness, professionalism, thoughtfulness, and expertise. Jimmy, himself, responded almost immediately to my inquiry. He provided a terrific overview of the process, pros and cons of the coating options, and promptly scheduled an on-site visit to gather necessary measurements, assessment of the condition of the floor, etc. to enable an informed estimate. Juan arrived precisely on the day and time of my appointment; he brought many samples of colors and design of the product from which I could choose; and he thoroughly answered all of my questions. If I could, I would give zero stars. I made my appointment two and a half weeks before I wanted an estimate on Spartaflex installation in my new house. After multiple messages left on Paul's voicemail, he finally returned our call. Fast forward to two and a half weeks later...We called to confirm bid & installation appointment and they had the wrong dates. Paul was so rude on the phone and practically blamed us for allegedly telling him the wrong dates. Paul came out the next day after I called him. Man, these guys are on the ball and super super professional. He came out and measured and gave me a formal quote. He showed me tons of samples (which were much better and higher quality than the ones I saw from another vendor, Garage Envy). I signed a contract on the spot. GORGEOUS material this Spartaflex. The quality was head and shoulders better than what I saw. Thicker and looked much nicer and smoother than the normal Epoxy samples I've seen. $3,050 for parts and labor and installation including the stem walls. They have been doing this a long time. Paul is a real professional. They are scheduled out about a month or so. I signed a contract with him on the spot. Wow, I can't rave enough about Paul and Perkins Custom Coatings. These people are true pros. They told me they would show up at 8:30 AM on the day the work started and they were here promptly at 8:30 AM. Many vendors that I've had out are late and make excuses whey they are late from getting lost, to taking a long time to get through the security gate, to whatever reason (dog ate my homework kind of thing). These guys were on time and worked hard. The two guys that came out were true pros. Very professional and explained what they would do each day. I've done a TON of renovations and even built a few houses from scratch but I've never done any epoxy flooring before so I didn't know anything about this process. These guys explained the process and both days they showed up on time and worked about 8 hours each day. The end result is gorgeous! I'm super super busy lately as I'm opening another office in another country so it's been crazy. It turned out amazing! And Paul and Perkins were really professional and "old school". For example, I was surprised that Paul didn't even ask for a deposit. I signed a contract and he shook my hand and said a handshake was good enough for him and that's how he did business. He told me that I could pay him once it was all done. I was on a monster 3.5 hour conference call when they finished so I couldn't say goodbye. So I sent my wife out with a credit card to pay and they just said to call the office and they would take care of it. These people are true professionals. The process with Perkins went smooth from beginning to end. They were nice enough to schedule a Saturday consultation because we were not available over the weekdays. They brought high-end samples and proved to us how Spartaflex was much more durable than epoxy by taking their keys and scraping the samples HARD. We chose the color, they gave us a quote, and we signed the contract on the spot. We agreed on an installation date which was also written on the contract so I'm not sure where the confusion was with one of the other reviewers. We also received a courtesy call the week prior to confirm the date. The day of the installation was good. They arrived 10 min late (I gave them slack since it was brutal traffic time at 8am) and started work right away. They finished by about 3pm and told me that we could walk on it the next say and drive on it the day after. I was a little confused because I read, and it was written on the contract, that you could walk on it after it dries (2 hrs) and drive on it after 24. It was fine though because I played it safe and didn't drive or put heavy stuff on the floors until 2 days after. I can guarantee you that they are not the cheapest but they were not nearly as expensive as we though they would have been. We have a 20x20' 2-car garage with little oil stains/cosmetic issue and wanted the stem walls done as well which turned out to be well under $2000. The end result...my husband and I are EXTREMELY happy with the end result and are very glad we didn't go the epoxy route. While it might be slightly more affordable, I can definitely tell the difference between the 2 coatings. I don't see the chances of fading or peeling very high from the Spartaflex. The smell is VERY strong when they're done and takes a few days to calm down but it does eventually go away. I would definitely recommend Spartaflex from Perkins. I went with Perkins not because they were the cheapest, on the contrary theirs was one of the higher bids I received. I went with them because I felt the job would be done correctly and professionally, I was right. As someone that spends many hours each week in his garage I am pleased and feel it was money well spent. I had one little issue with the job after they finished it. The expansion joint they filled settled and would be a problem las it was low and would fill with water and debris. They showed to redo the expansion joint between driveway and garage slab and I could not be happier with there excellent job. I was afraid that they were just going to fill in the low spots, as I'm sure most companies might do. I explained to them that removing and just refilling the joint would result in the same issue as before. The job they did was outstanding and the joint was filled properly and did not settle.
