I reached these people from an ad on Facebook (which should've been my first clue) and was surprised they were willing to set up an appointment same day. They took my information (just name/address /phone) and said they would be here at 6:30p. They then sent a video using my name, date, and time on a white board (to show it was real, I guess? That made me highly suspicious of deep fakes, tho) to confirm my appt and let me know some details before they showed up. One of the details was the price. The lowest price mentioned was $12,000. Not to remodel the entire bathroom, but ONLY to replace the tub/surround. Also, the material they use is BP-Cor2, a composite polymer that contains 85% ABS plastic and 15% Acrylic. Google says this is actually a pretty safe, non-toxic material (so that's good), but the adhesive fumes are another story and it takes 24-48 hours for all that to be done. That sounded exorbitant. They do offer a lifetime warranty, but I may be selling my place within the year, so that really wasn't a factor in my decision. So I called to cancel, was put on hold, then hung up on twice. Not sure what that was about, so I texted back to the number that sent me the link and said to cancel my appointment, then I texted stop to unsubscribe. Got a call back almost immediately after that from the guy I originally talked to, who tried to change my mind. I would say it was a medium sell - not hard, but definitely he tried a few tactics before giving up. When he finally realized I was not going to relent, he said he canceled everything, which was great. About a week or two later, I received a call from them trying to sell me their service again. I pointed out that I had unsubscribed from everything and was not going to follow through with the appointment. They called yet again another week later, trying to sell me the same crap. At this point, there is no way they could've convinced me to change my mind. I do not work with people who do not listen when you cancel something. Beware of giving them your information. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Shugarman's Bath Company. I first met their representatives at a local festival, where they advertised that they would provide a completely free bathroom design if I agreed to a home consultation and listened to their sales presentation. I specifically explained that I was interested in a full bathroom remodel, not just a shower replacement. Based on those representations, I agreed to schedule an appointment. When the salesperson arrived at my home, I was surprised to learn that the company only focuses on showers and does not provide complete bathroom remodels or custom bathroom designs as I had been led to believe. Despite realizing early in the appointment that their services did not match what I was looking for, I still sat through the sales presentation because I understood the salesperson was giving up his time to be there. The presentation lasted approximately an hour and a half. At the end, I was given a very expensive proposal, but no picture of how the shower would look like. When I followed up and requested to receive a picture of how the of the shower would look like as I was promised, I was told that they do not provide designs and that I should simply look at photos on their website (this statement came directly from Mr. Jones who was the lead design team. This was completely different from what was presented to me when I agreed to the appointment. I felt the advertising was misleading and that the primary goal was simply to get a salesperson into my home rather than provide the service that had been promised. I was also told that I could receive a discount if I left a positive review, which made me question the authenticity of some of the company's online reviews. Additionally, I was offered what was presented as a "free vacation" if I agreed to move forward with their proposal. However, as the details were explained, it became apparent that this was not truly a free vacation but rather a promotional offer tied to a timeshare-style presentation. This felt like another example of marketing that was not fully transparent upfront. Throughout the appointment, I felt significant pressure to decide on the spot. The overall experience reminded me of a high-pressure car dealership sales environment, where the focus seemed to be on getting a signed contract rather than understanding my needs and providing the services that had originally been promised. I believe companies should be transparent about the services they offer and should honor the commitments made to potential customers. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. read more

I know there are a lot of faux reviews on Yelp, written by the businesses themselves or by people posing as customers. Ugh. It gets so frustrating. But this is not a fake post and I'm a real customer and a real person! I live in Carmel Valley and have for 35 years. I want to sing the praises of the company that just put in my second bath/shower combo because they are different than most companies. This is a long-standing family-run business in San Diego County called Shugarman's Bath. I had them do my walk-in shower four years ago. When I needed another bathroom done, I called on them again. I didn't want to mess with success. Besides, they had tons of choices for the wall, fixtures, etc. When I was initially gathering quotes four years ago, I had several companies come out and give me their sales spiel. Ho hum. There's nothing I'd rather not do than listen to a two-hour sales pitch. But none of the other companies included repairs for whatever they found behind the walls, such as mold, bad plumbing, etc. They would charge extra and they couldn't tell me what the charge would be. I didn't want any surprises. In the other hand, Shugarman's include EVERYTHING in one price, including taking care of mold issues and putting in new plumbing behind the walls. My home is almost 40 years old so I knew there might be problems...and there were. I had mold behind the wall panels yesterday, which they took care of right away. Their price was competitive with the other companies but it included everything, so I cautiously went ahead with them. I'm so glad I did. They completed the bathroom in ONE DAY. I couldn't believe it because there was a lot to demo and stuff to get rid of. They kept all walkways clean with floor clothes throughout the entire process and cleaned up before they left. I never would have known they were here except...I had a brand new cool bathtub and shower! I'll post photos of each. Shane did the work for me yesterday. He was outstanding! I also want to mention something else. The people who come out to do the work, and even the people on the phone in this business, as well as the sales reps who come out to give you a quote, are all top-notch. I've never worked with such nice folks. They were friendly throughout the project, helped me find the best way to pay for it (the offer many options) for my budget, and were nothing but helpful. If you are needing this type of work done, I can highly recommend them...and I can't say that about too many other companies I've used for this and that! This family run company is really great. My complaint about the off-color caulking was directly addressed by Shugarman. A Shugarman technician named Jorge came by to inspect the off-color caulk. He removed a portion and showed it to me. Much to my surprise, it matched the vinyl wall material perfectly. My bathroom has light blue walls, and just about everything else is a shade of beige (Sand and Sky, get it?) So when the lights are turned up, the blue of the walls reflects differently from the caulk and the vinyl. Different surfaces reflect differently, so the colors don't seem to match, although they actually do in natural light. So, problem solved. Or at least revealed to due to lighting. read more

Communication: everything was clear and well presented right from the initial phone call, up until the turn over . My design consultant went over every detail, every option, and every possible scenario. He made sure all needs were met and there was not pressure or attempts to upsell. After signing on, demo and install were scheduled and the projects managers made sure to communicate details along the way. On demo day, every single step was communicated even with appropriate warnings/advisories about noise and vibration. On installation day, they made sure I was involved in placement of accessories particularly height, distances, etc. Reliability: I feel like Shugarman's Bath is a very well-oiled machine. They do what they promise and sometimes even over-deliver! Work Quality: everything was presented well from beginning to end. They had everything they needed in their vehicle and not once did they slow down. Of course, the finished product is beautiful, efficient, and accessible. Customer Satisfaction: not once did I feel left out or disregarded/contradicted just to make their job easier. Everyone went through every detail to make sure that I got what I wanted and not some work around or semblance of what was asked of them. They definitely deliver what was promised! Pricing: they were not the lowest bidders. But the promise and guarantee they provided was top notch. Choosing Shugarman's Bath to replace our thirty year old tub and shower combination was easy. The biggest selling point to us was that when they deconstruct and remove the old fixture, no matter what they find behind it (leaks, mold, worn out piping, damaged support beams), repairing it is included. Their installation team will do it then and there as part of the new install: There's no outsourcing of any problem to a third party. There's no stopping work and telling us to "go find a plumber before they can continue" or anything of that sort. It took about two and a half months for all the parts we ordered to come in. (That was fine by us.) They scheduled a mutually convenient start date for us and their team. Deconstruction was done one day by Adrian and a helper. Installation took two days by Adrian working solo. There were three surprises found once deconstruction was completed: 1. Previous replacement piping had to be rerouted. (Adrian explained and showed us a better route. We agreed and he proceeded.) 2. The location of the inset shelf couldn't be put on the back wall because of the depth of the stucco on the backside of the framing. (Adrian saw the potential problem and offered us a different location - the shower's back wall - which was fine by us.) 3. The grab bar entering the shower didn't have the wood beam support to be mounted. (Adrian added the support beams to provide a firm mount for the grab bar.) A big big shoutout to Adrian. Not only did he show great ingenuity and craftmanship - he was very informative and friendly. We highly recommend and thank him! What an amazing transition! It's been about three weeks now and there are no problems and it's been so uplifting to have such a fine shower space in our master bathroom. Thanks again, Shugarman's Bath. Waited for the glass installation of the master bathroom shower before reviewing. Ivan and Christian once again did the work and as expected did excellent work. Ivan was very meticulous and made sure everything was to high standards. He was very methodical and was going to finish earlier than expected but found a blemish in some trim so he told us that he did not want to install the trim and will get one from the warehouse and will be delayed by a little bit but well within the promised date. The master bathroom shower/tub looks great and we are very happy with how everything turned out. When we bought the house we had slated to have the master bathtub removed and the shower enlarged. For the past 7 years the only thing the tub was used for was to give water to the cat. We met Shugarmans at a Home and Garden show in Del Mar, and liked that the could do custom showers not just a one size fits all shower. After a few months we decided it was time. Working with Susan during the sales process was amazing we worked on many configurations so that we could maximize the space based on the largest drain pan we could go with. Even after a few days we weren't sure that it was going to be correct and called her to resize a few things, she was always a pleasure to work with. The wait was the probably the worse part as it took about 3 months from Sales to Install. Mainly waiting to have the drain pan created - this was probably due to the type we choose. But Adria was always checking in to give me updates. On installation start to finish, we couldn't be happier. Nicho was efficient and worked hard to get the old shower and tub removed. He was very thorough in preventing as much dust as he could from getting to other areas of the house and his clean up afterwards was immaculate. The next day Jorge and Michael came to start the installation. Jorge checked in quite often to make sure that the install was going as planned and noted that there might be issue with the way the pny wall was configured and he easily pivoted when I made a suggestion to add the back higher wall. Even though it required a few more calculations he was positive and figured it out and it turned out great. Jorge spent about 3 days to complete the install with some help form Brian on the last day. He was awesome to work with and very professional. All and all the install went very smoothly, and we are very happy with how things turned out. Shugarman's Bath did a great job on my bathroom. I wanted to change my tub to a shower and make it convenient for both adults and kids by using a shower head that could be vertically adjusted. I also wanted to be able to adjust the water pressure or volume. Sometimes you want to just want to soap up and sometimes you want a fire hose! Shugarman's succeeded on all fronts! My installer, Dillon, was great. My bathroom's framing did present some challenges however. There were 2x6s in the way of the soap and shampoo recess and a floor joist where the drain was supposed to be. But, Dillon overcame! I was completely satisfied with the outcome. read more

**** Please see revised review I had a mixed experience with Shugarman's Bath for my tub to shower conversion. The project was originally scheduled to begin on Monday at 7:30 am. At 7:35, I received a phone message that the crew would not be coming because they didn't have enough staff available for the demolition. This was extremely inconvenient since I had already made accomodations and planned my schedule around the construction. This was scheduled after 3 months of processing. A last-minute cancellation like that was disappointing. The installation began the following day, and I wan t to recognize the installer team, who did an excellent job. The finished shower is beautiful and the quality of the installation itself was very good. However, after taking a closer look, I found a couple of surprises that should have been discussed during the design and sales process. The shower door uses a very narrow piece of glass that I was not expecting. This design choice was not explained beforehand. In addition, the shower door and frame is only 6 feet tall. Anyone taller than that has to duck to enter the shower, which is something I believe sheould have been pointed out before installation. While communication with the office was generally good, I was disappointed by the lack of communication before the installation regarding these design details and by the last-minute scheduling change. Although the finished shower looks beautiful, the overall experience did not meet my expectations, and unfortunately I cannot recommend Shugarman's to my family or friends based on my experience. ******************* I would like to revise my original review of Shugarman's bath and tub. After the company read my review, they reached out to me and made a genuine effort to make things right. I was very impressed by how they responded to my concerns. They ordered a thicker piece of glass and a larger door fr, and everything was installed in about a week. The quality is excellent and the finished shower looks wonderful. I truly appreciate that Shugarman's listened to my concerns and took the necessary steps to make sure I was satisfied with the finished product. While the initial experience had some issues, the way the company handled my concerns ultimately made a big difference. We have had Shugarman's Bath put in two showers for us, several years apart. The most recent was a guest bathroom which had a tub/shower combination. They took out the tub and made it into a nice shower. They did an excellent job. The employees were courteous and cleaned up at the end of each day. They also alerted us to termites in the walls, and we got that treated by a termite exterminator before the shower could be finished. To Joy, business manager regarding your remark to my poor review of your company... It is the responsibility of your staff to inspect, identify, and communicate any potential issues before beginning demolition or installation. Instead, I was only made aware of problems after materials had been removed and damage had already occurred. This is not professional practice and should never have resulted in a costs of $9,000 to me!!!!!! During the project, materials were damaged, my bathroom sustained damage, and despite being told the work could be completed in a single day (or within the four days I allowed), the project dragged on for over seven days. The end result is far from satisfactory--it does not reflect the quality I expected, nor does it justify the time, cost, and inconvenience endured. This situation falls back on poor management and poor communication on your end. I strongly encourage your team to be upfront with customers, conduct thorough inspections before committing to work, and manage projects with the professionalism customers deserve. If you are on the fence about purchasing one, get off the fence and do it. This was a great addition to the house, adds some value, but more importantly delivered on everything promised and more. I have absolutely no buyer's remorse here, this was absolutely worth it. I work two jobs, and one is some fairly serious outdoor labor. I'm also pretty close to retirement. At a certain age your whole skeleton hurts, 7/24. This is like having your own private jacuzzi at home. Even with the jets off, it's just so comfortable to just sit in a tub where you can enjoy a NORMAL seated posture. I could sit in there until plasmolysis sets in. Part of the experience is just sitting in peace and quiet, but the other half is when I get out I feel like my batteries are recharged. A simple shower doesn't do that, and trying to take a bath in a regular bathtub is kind of undignified and lacking. This walk-in tub even has a nice ledge behind the seat. Sometimes the cat hops up on the ledge to sleep on while I sit in the tub. For the sake of an impartial review I'm trying to think of one unpleasant thing to say but I'm really having a hard time thinking of one. Yes, these are expensive but before I made this purchase I spent 4 years visiting showrooms, doing online research, attending trade shows, going through Consumer Reports magazine articles, and talking to neighbors that had bought one. I really took my time and did my research, no impulse buy here. The short of it is that Shugarman's was easily the #1 choice for San Diego. Yes, there were other San Diego installers but they weren't even close to what Shugarman does. Our #2 choice was some company in Colorado, not even these other locals. Shugarman's is really the only way to go if you're looking for a tub in San Diego. Ultimately you're going to pay the same price either way. You can do it at once and have it professionally installed, or you can have it done by one of the cheaper guys, only to spend time repairing it over the years. No thanks. Let's just do it at once and never look back. Also, their price was on par with the industry. They're also the only company that does it all themselves. You don't have to be a project manager and call for different contractors ( drywall, electrical, etc. ) Shugarman's handles it all, you pay one price and they coordinate it all to happen over one or two days, tops. We had special requirements that made us a 3-day install, but Chreen and her crew were so good, they did it in just two days with no mistakes. Everything looks so professional. I'm so glad we didn't go with any of the other companies whose showrooms we visited. I saw things with those other guys that gave me doubts, but didn't have that same feeling with Shugarman's; no red flags whatsoever. I wish I could invite everyone over to just sit in it and experience it, but once I'm done with this review I'm probably going to get in the tub and drift off to sleep, so no, go get your own. read more

I'm updating the review because after three years the valves on the showers became hard to turn. I contacted Shugarman's Bath and they got RICKY out to my place in two days! He was quick, respectful, skills, and knowledgeable. It turns out the speakman kits had been updated by speakman to address this problem. RICKY put in new valves with updated parts and they work great! So happy with this investment and to have a reliable company like Shugarman's around! read more

Shugarman's Bath Replaced my 1955 Bathtub With The Most Awesome New Shower. Retired, living in the home I grew up in since 1955. Getting tired of the old, cold to the touch bath tub and tile walls. After 70 years it was time for a massive upgrade. At the San Diego Convention Center Auto Show I saw a booth for Shugarman's Bath. Hmmm, lets see what they have to offer, do they have what I want in a new bathroom? Talked with the rep and yes they did. Set up an appointment for an estimate. Sales rep spent almost two hours with me going over their company, product selection, lifetime warranty. Fully answered all my questions, took his time, no pressure, no rush. Wanted smooth surface walls for squeegee easy cleaning. So many choices, found exactly the gray color and pattern I wanted. Shower floor pan would also be gray with a textured, no slip finish. Would angle down from the back of the shower to drain water. Wanted a shower head and wand setup with one handle water temp control, brushed nickel finish. Rep showed me exactly what I wanted. OK, good to go with everything, lets set up an installation date. Notified in advance of the crew's arrival and even a follow-up call that morning due to a slight traffic delay. Parked on the street to allow them full use of my driveway during construction. Already cleared out all my items in the bathroom, ready for work to start. Jordan and his co-worker arrived, reviewed the work to be done. Protective tarps were laid on the floor in a path to my bathroom. Was advised it could be noisy at time. Yeah, breaking out a cast iron bath tub can be. Bathroom door was closed during demo to keep in the noise and dust. Frequent runs to the truck with plastic bags filled with my old shower remains. After a while, Jordan asked me to come in to review the the shower head height, where the wall shelf unit would go, where I wanted the grab bar, a few other areas. Great coordination. End of the first day he showed me their progress. Wow what a difference, almost there. Said tomorrow we would finalize grab bar location and angle. They cleaned and vacuumed everywhere to remove demolition debris/dust. Next morning right on time. Jordan had a new co-worker, a former US Marine. As I'm retired Army, we hit it off well. Yes. Army and Marines do get along. Jordan called me in for final grab bar location and how I wanted it angled. Then showed me the ceiling piece would match my walls. A very nice touch, thank you Jordan. A few hours later joint caulk installation was finishing up. They had already tested the shower head and wand, drainage. All good to go of course. When done, Jordan went over shower cleaning information. Gave me information on what products to use for the best results. Squeegee for taking water off the walls and doors. Said to give the shower 24 hours for the caulk to dry. (Gave it 2 days just to be sure.) Time to use my new shower. Ensured the door at the far end was closed, slid the door by shower valve, turned it on to get my temperature. Found the perfect sweet spot for it to point. Turned off to enter. Inside turned the water on. OHHHH YESSS!!!!! What an improvement over my 1955 shower. What I really liked was how the composite shower pan and wall panels are not cold to the touch as in the old shower. Nice on those cold nights. Liked the adjustable shower head which is also EPA Water Sense compliant to reduce water usage yet provides a good shower stream. Didn't want to get out of the shower it felt so good. When done, squeegeed the walls, towel to wipe water residue. Daily maintenance to keep it looking new for years to come. It was a pleasure working with Jordan, his co-workers, everyone at Shugarman's Bath. Great team doing excellent work. Hmmm, with the new gray themed shower, now I have to repaint my walls a light shade of gray, gray theme vinyl plank flooring, gray, one piece toilet, everything else to upgrade my bathroom.
