Southwestern Steak Sandwich
Charity F.

I've been to Perky Beans next door for a coffee but never got a chance to stop by PB Cafe. My sister and I stopped in for a bite to eat and the wait was around 35 minutes for the two of us considering it is a popular, smaller sized cafe. It was 100% worth the wait as the food was absolutely delicious! The service was great-- our server Jillian was attentive and friendly. The steak sandwich was flavorful, and the steak was tender. The chimichurri complimented the whole sandwich, while the tomato added a fresh kick. This is definitely my new go to spot for lunch as it's right by my house, well priced, and tasty.

This strikes me as a very ordinary coffee shop. Perky Beans has some great names for coffee, but other than that I don't find this shop standing out from other independent coffee shops. I ordered a Bull Frog coffee; it had white chocolate and mint. It was disappointing. I barely noticed any mint. I also ordered a mocha. It was lovely with a good balance of mocha that wasn't overly sweet or with a heavy texture. I love the way the two-go coffees are sealed with very strong stickers; they held up well on my drive home. Taking one off and on during my drive, the sticker stayed secure. It also had a really cute owl on it. If I'm in the area, I'll certainly pop back in; however, I won't be going out of my way to return.

Im always amazed at how happy and engaging the staff is here. Atmosphere is always bustling and a bit loud but in a good lively way. Great food and coffee, and I am always enticed to try new dishes. Apparently they also started dinner service. I'll definitely have to try dinner too!

Perky Beans really lives up to its name--it's a cheerful way to start the day with hearty food, great coffee, and genuinely friendly staff. There are actually two spots under the Perky Beans name: the original coffee shop and PB Café, the full-service restaurant. This review is for the café. Even on a weekday morning, the place was buzzing, nearly every table full. Fortunately, I managed to snag the last open seat. I was greeted right away with a warm smile, handed a menu, and asked for my drink order. Without hesitation, I blurted out, "Coffee!"--the kind of morning where please came later. True to form, my server returned quickly with a steaming cup, and I made sure to say thank you that time. I ordered the Big 'Ol Breakfast: eggs, sausage, ham, home fries, and a side of pancakes. The first bite instantly took me back to the kind of old-school diners I used to visit in my youth. Everything had that unmistakable farm-fresh taste and comforting, down-home quality. The food was not only delicious but arrived surprisingly fast, which added to the welcoming, "homey" vibe of the place. Checkout their menu, it's a classic take on diner options but PB kicks it up a notch with such creative offerings on French toast, waffles, and Bennie's. The staff deserve extra credit for rolling with my "coffee first, manners later" attitude--they were gracious, patient, and attentive throughout. Between the hearty meal, the quick service, and the warm atmosphere, PB Café felt like stepping into a classic country diner with a touch of small-town charm.

My friends and I have been buying coffee at Perky Beans since open and have been having breakfast at PB Cafe since they open. The restaurant reminds me of small town diner dining. The young woman at the coffee counter was super nice when she took our orders and even brought our drinks to the table. When we are all in attendance, we moved over to the cafe side and were immediately seated by Amanda. She was very nice and patient as we like to talk before ordering. The food was delivered quickly from the open kitchen. Real chefs cooking real fresh food. I had the chicken fried streak and home roasted potatoes. Everything had a wonderful taste. Shoutout to Amanda for keeping our coffee cups full and putting up with our silly teasing.

Server: 10/10 - Dawnielle was so nice and attentive. Drinks: 7/10 - menu seemed fun and i hope to try something new next time, bonus points for the jars. Food: 8/10 - The sandwich was yummy! don't love the bite size style but still great. 8/10 - fries were also good just a little salty. 7/10 - Pancakes were delicious but the CC was overpowering, don't need syrup or butter with it. 8/10 - side of sausage patties were average, wish they were links 7/10 Ambiance: 7/10 - cafe style, close together and a little hustle and bustle but it was nice! less than 10 min wait at 12pm on a sunday, probably at its busiest so not bad at all. The wall art was super cute too Price : $$ ($38 +tip) Overall: 8.5/10

This really should be a 5-star review. But, as customer service is HUGE for me, I must say today's visit missed the mark... at least for one server. First, the place is very well decorated, and the dining tables are close, but not cramped. Kudos to Karly, and Rebecca for helping my server. Not sure if today was an "off" day, but Amanda missed it with me. I won't go into detail, but she definitely dismissed me on a couple of attempts to gain her attention. Again, I will chalk it up to just being on of those days for my server. But, something can definitely be done for identifying when a customer may need some attention. As for the food, the Pastami Hash was a big hit for me! I added a side of country gravy to it, and... #yummy

It's hard to review Perky Beans as a coffee shop, as their cafe is combined on this Yelp listing. But my review is for their coffee and my experience with it. I came here to grab coffee with a friend. When I arrived, plenty of seating was available, though I was told that just 10 minutes prior, the place was packed. Only then did I realize that an interior door connected the coffee shop with the cafe, and you could order food from within the coffee shop to eat with your coffee. It's confusing if you ask me. I ordered their black drip coffee and was charged about $3 after tax. I glanced at their bagged coffee beans and noticed their unique PB coffee blend, which combines beans from five countries. As a result, it was difficult for me to taste any flavor notes in the coffee, as none of them were distinct enough. I let my burning hot coffee sit for 10-15 minutes, lid off, to let it cool down. Yet the coffee was still unremarkable, maybe a step above chain store coffee. Overall, I would likely not return here for their coffee again. However, their food looks good, and I might try that if I'm ever in the area.

Perky Beans is probably the best place to get a hearty and pleasantly-plated dish of eggs benedict north of Austin! Perky Beans has an interesting set-up, with one storefront being a restaurant that overflows into its coffee shop/cafe. Restaurant patrons are allowed to sit in the cafe part and order off the restaurant menu. I visited PB with my bf for brunch one weekend, and we were both happy with the service and food quality. My only gripe is the lack of coffee sizes. I asked for a small latte, but I guess all the lattes come in one size, in GIANT mugs. My eggs benedict dish however was phenomenal. I ordered the veggie eggs benedict, and it came with the most adorably flat hashbrown rectangle I had ever seen. I will definitely return for that hashbrown rectangle alone, lol!

Smokin' Good Vibes, But Not That Kind of Smokin'. A cannabis-loving friend put me onto this spot,…read moreand after hearing all the hype, I had to check it out for myself. I quickly learned why it's a favorite among the elevated crowd, the sandwiches are named after different THC strains! Before anyone asks, no, the food is not infused. The names are just part of the fun. Now, I'm a toasted sub enthusiast, and a toasted sandwich is only as good as its bread. Thankfully, this place delivers. The menu is creative, the atmosphere is laid-back, and there are plenty of little touches that make it stand out. One of my favorite surprises was the drink fountain stocked with old-school Kool-Aid flavors. Instant nostalgia! They also have a full bar and outdoor seating, making it a great spot to kick back and hang out. Don't skip the house-made "smoker snacks" either. The Rice Krispie treats and cookies are dangerously good and worth saving room for. A heads-up: parking can be a little tight up front, but I've heard there's additional parking in the back. My biggest piece of advice? Go big. The small sandwich is basically foreplay, it'll leave you wanting more. Order the large and thank me later. Overall: Great food, fun theme, nostalgic drinks, tasty treats, and chill vibes. Definitely a spot worth checking out, whether you're a cannabis connoisseur or just someone who appreciates a solid sandwich.

The…read moreatmosphere is so inviting /lots of people and lots of seating A concept I've not ever seen before in a toasted sub sandwich shop-or frankly any brand of sub sandwich location. I ordered a 4 inch essentially vegetarian sandwich. They have 4"-8" and 12" subs available and lots of choices-with unique names -mine was called "the Griefo" along with a make your own option. My sandwich had a couple of different types of lettuce, along with cucumber, red onion, and dill pickles (I requested) on a jalapeño cream cheese base. I was given a stand with the picture on it, and was advised the sandwich would be brought to me . After ordering my sandwich, I stepped across to the bar where I chose to sit on the outside barstools. The bar seating was quite full, but it was a beautiful day with a healthy breeze, so I was quite comfortable. The young lady behind the bar was very prompt in coming by to ask me if I would like a beverage and so I ordered a strawberry margarita. (a note.: they do not have frozen drinks at this time). She advised me it was the first time she had made a strawberry Version Of a margarita-but she did a great job and it was on point!!! shortly I was served my sandwich. (I didn't mention that there are options for bread for your sandwich, and I chose the herb and garlic.) I don't know where they get their bread, but it's delicious. My sandwich was stuffed with ingredients and looked and tasted really great!! What a great introduction to this cute little shop tucked away in a strip center off of W. Hero Way in Leander. In fact, it was so good that last night I phoned in an order and the three of us had it for dinner. I did attempt to use the online ordering system, but it kept notifying me that the restaurant was not taking online orders at that time. I knew it would be very risky to call in the order because I have a couple of people here that are very picky and although we found sandwiches for them, they were going to have to be a lot of alterations!!! However , I did call and a man on the other end of the phone took my order. Giving it was very intense making sure that I eliminated all the items that the two picky people in my household don't eat. In all honesty I didn't expect the sandwiches to turn out perfectly as there was a lot of background noise (sounded like everybody was having a great time there!!!). I was told the sandwiches would be ready in about 15 minutes so when I hung up I proceeded to get ready and drove over there. There is a separate area for to go orders so that is where I went. The young lady who was helping me couldn't find my order, but then I thought to tell her I phoned it in and they kept those orders in a different area up by the cash register. Sure enough there it was ready and waiting. The 8" White Widow was made exactly as requested. My son said the chicken breast in the sandwich had the best seasoning and flavor he had ever had. Next was the 4 inch Pacific blue which is a tuna melt(fresh tuna salad with cheddar cheese) and toasted too perfection. It also had to be altered, but was made just as requested. I had ordered the Griefo w/jalapeño cream cheese along with all the veggies-asked for pickles to be added, which they were! We had ordered one of the desserts, a "Gooball" which was similar to a rice crispy, treat with peanut butter, added and shaped into a ball.... how could that not be delicious???? We were more than satisfied with our sandwiches and divided up the Gooball so we all could have a taste. The perfect bite of sweetness at the end of a meal.!! We can't wait to experience their food again!!

I said yes, I want everything as is (included in the description) and to add jalapeños. I was told that sometimes they don't put this on the sandwich, it really depends. I confirmed again that I wanted lettuce and tomato plus jalapeños as I originally ordered. I thought it was strange on the "sometimes they don't put this on the sandwich" ? Well, I got home. There was no lettuce, no tomato and no jalapeños. My husband didn't eat his sandwich due to half of the sandwich being missing.

Despite visiting the store three or four times and speaking with different managers, no one ever helped me redeem it. The free sandwich never showed up on my account, and I never got to use it. On my last visit, not only was I told the reward was expired (even though I never had a chance to use it), but I was also treated rudely by the manager. I ordered the Da Vinci sandwich with specific instructions: lettuce and tomato only, no Italian dressing, and no spicy ingredients. Instead, my sandwich was made loaded with jalapeños, pepperoncinis, and hot peppers hidden under the cheese-- totally opposite of what I asked for. It felt intentional and disrespectful. My dad was worried they would mess with our food and I said I'm not worried b/c I thought they would be more professional. I way underestimated the maturity of those workers. The sandwich was so spicy I couldn't even eat it. These are expensive sandwiches, and I expected better quality and service. This was honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at a sandwich shop. I won't be returning to the Cedar Park location --if I ever return to Ike's I'll stick to the Round Rock or North Austin stores instead. Really disappointing experience from a brand I used to love.

Every now and then, I find myself craving the kind of food that feels like home--not just Texas…read morehome, but the borderlands where the flavors of Texas and Mexico have spent generations shaping one another. That's what drew me to Conejos in Leander. After browsing the menu, I could tell this wasn't simply another Tex-Mex restaurant. It embraces the traditions of both sides of the Río Grande while adding a few creative touches of its own. Tucked into a shopping center just off the 183 Toll, Conejos welcomes you with rich colors and décor that proudly celebrates its Mexican roots. I started with the esquites, or Mexican street corn served in a cup. Growing up, I ate plenty of elote from street vendors in Mexico, and while this version comes with the comforts of air conditioning and clean tables, it doesn't sacrifice any of the bold flavors. Sweet corn, creamy sauce, chile, cheese, and lime come together in a way that reminds you why this humble street food has become a favorite on both sides of the border. For my entrée, I ordered the birria quesadilla. Birria has become one of Austin's hottest food trends, but Conejos does it justice. Tender, slow-braised beef is tucked inside a flour tortilla that's griddled until crisp, with cheese caramelized along the outside rather than simply melted within. Served alongside rice and beans, it strikes that familiar balance between traditional Mexican cooking and the hearty Tex-Mex comfort many of us grew up enjoying. Every bite felt both familiar and refreshingly different. The hospitality matched the food. I asked for recommendations, and the staff took the time to explain the menu with genuine enthusiasm instead of rushing me through the line. The owners also operate the neighboring Rabbit Hole bar, carrying the rabbit theme from one business to the next. I'll save that visit for another day, but if the food and hospitality at Conejos are any indication, I already have a good reason to come back.
