Every time I've gone, I've gotten something different and each time I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've gotten. Our favorites are the potato and duck pierogis, schlubby fries, and the fish board. The fish board is absolutely huge by the way, so definitely get it if you have more than a party of two to share. Price is super reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. However, the wait could have been longer especially before lunch. There were old pictures hanging on a wall with a nice wallpaper. Katie, our server, was lovely. Red sea sour and margarita were good. The Jewish egg rolls were also good. Cheese Blintz was awesome. It had ricotta cheese, orange and was topped with blueberry sauce. Yum yum! Schnitzel perlstein was not that tasty. Benny Goodman was light and delicious -- the poached eggs, smoked salmon, potato latkes with dill hollandaise and salmon roe all went well together. A mainstay diner in this city for, like, forever. If you're impatient or in a hurry, go someplace else. If you don't mind standing outside for quite a while for your meal, you're in the right place. I never knew there were so many ways to serve bagels and salmon. Try their version of a Bloody Mary! This is one of the first places I've been in a long time where I genuinely can't wait to go back. Everything from the food, to the atmosphere, to the service was inviting and fun. We were seated very quickly and brought into the excellent little deli booths, which I absolutely loved. Our server was friendly and helpful, answering our menu questions and being sure we didn't miss any cool options. The decor is excellent as well, even had some old movies playing on the bar TV! We opted for mostly brunch items, I enjoyed the latkes and the egg sandwich. First off, they had a crazy good selection of bagels and cheeses to make it truly one of a kind - though mine with Swiss cheese on an onion bagel was incredible and I'd recommend to all. I can't wait to head back to try some other menu items! The latkes were excellent as well, crispy and fried nicely. My only regret is not picking up some cookies to take home. We were lucky enough to be seated but we took the last table on a Wednesday morning and it was really busy. We saw multiple groups leave bc they couldn't accommodate larger groups due to their traffic. Service was good and fast. Coffee was just okay. The latkes we ordered as a starter and tbh they weren't my favorite. Well prepared and cooked but the flavor was a bit bland. The dill cream sauce was good but also pretty mild. The apple chutney or sauce they had for the latkes though was amazing. The latkes needed a little salt or something they just fell flat in terms of flavor. I had the schnitzel perlstein (veal schnitzel with 2 eggs smoked trout salad and greens) and my friend had a bagel sandwich. The schnitzel was a bit dry and again could've used a bit more flavor. The smoked trout salad was fabulous and the eggs were well done. The greens were pretty wilted and slightly brown so I just expected a bit more here. My friend said her bagel sandwich was good. Overall it came to about $50 for a coffee, oj, latkes two entrees and a side. So not bad. Pretty decent breakfast I'd probably be back for the trout salad it was really good. A huge thank you for our friend, Matt, who advised this was a must hit before a day of drinking and he was so spot on. We got there at 10am Saturday and a party of 6. Wait time quoted was 45 minutes and we were sat in about 30. Super friendly folks working here. Our server was so patient for us first timers and made some awesome suggestions. The coffee was pretty dark and strong. Loved it. Poached eggs as an option for any egg dish is a huge bonus! I had THE SCHNORRER ($13 on the weekend) 2 eggs with smoked whitefish (add 1.50), potato latke with applesauce & chive sour cream, with rye bread and coffee. Just delicious. Perly's is my number one favorite restaurant in Richmond. I'm kind of shocked I haven't posted a review for it before! It gives the best cozy vibes of a New York Jewish deli/diner and the variety of delicious foods to choose from never cease to leave me so happy and full. I always order the latkes and then depending on the time of day I either go with a hot dog or a breakfast plate they call the Schnorrer that comes with eggs, latkes, breakfast meat (I get turkey bacon - as crispy as possible), toast (I get an everything bagel) and coffee. The service is quick and friendly and even on busy days the wait is definitely worth it. The only downside is that it's only open til 3pm and not for dinner. Then better still, the vegetable knish. My goodness that was fantastic. Highly, highly recommend that one. I also ordered a side of the carrot and sweet potato tzimmes. It was a good size and also very tasty. Finally, I had the Hirshfeld sandwich - it tastes like a good, fresh example of exactly what it sounds like. It's real good if you like that type of sandwich. Decided with a friend to finally buckle up & commit to an infamous wait for Sunday brunch at Perly's. We got there right around 12:30 and were told the wait would be 45 minutes. Since it was sweltering outside, we ducked into the nearby Stella's grocery for a reprieve for about 10 minutes, keeping our eyes on the time. The veal was thick & well coated. The smoked trout salad was flavorful, though took over as the main flavor of the dish. But was well balanced the egg yolk, & the potato salad was hearty w.big chunks of potato. Alas we were given a Sprtizen Katz! instead of a Jewbano. My husband had taken a few hearty bites before he noticed & when tried to correct with the waitress, she would not do anything. She just said, "oh I thought you ordered something else"  & because he took bites she wouldn't correct the meal, or help w.an alternative (my idea was could I order half a Jewbano) instead she just suggested we order the Jewbano as another dish (paying full price to correct her mistake). Very dismayed. Felt very lacking in customer service. I definitely ordered the Jewbano, I even at one time called her over & asked specifically to change the sub roll of the Jewbano to Rye, so I know I said it multiple times. Not wanting to pay for & wait on the original dish, we just ate the Katz!- a very mushy "crabcake" of whitefish-way too much mayo & a tiny amount of anchovies on top a depressing mistake. Fantastic, give me 14 of everything right now! As a native New Yorker, who absolutely loves Yiddish food. It was a pleasant surprise stumbling upon Perly's. At least once a week I crave Matzo Ball Soup. I grew up eating it, it's a comfort food for me and Perly's knocked it out of the park! From the broth, to chicken, and celery everything had exquisite flavor profiles. Bagel with Fish. Again I have not had anything similar since being home in NY. Perly's killed it once again. The only right way to do it is smoked salmon, chive smear on an everything bagel. Salmon was very fresh. Service was top tier and you get a cozy little vibe from your booth. I was surprised when we arrived and there was a 30 minute wait, but the wait was worth it. I started with the Jewish Egg Rolls, sounded interesting and was very good. Hubby and I went here on a whim because saw photos of the lox! We arrived for late lunch around 1:45pm on a Friday and all the tables were full. There were 2 bar seats open so we took those otherwise the hostess said we would wait about 20 mins. There were several 2 seater booths and square tables. We were given water and menus shortly after sitting down and were updated that the bartender would be with us soon which took about 5 mins. I ordered the Bloody Mary and it came with pickled cauliflower and slice of green tomato. Hubby ordered the maven since the hammertaschen wasn't available. We ordered the corned beef hash and cheese blintz. Never had a cheese blintz before and it was a delightful. My husband said he's familiar with the stuffing being sweet and creamy but this cheese blintz was better because the cheese wasn't sweet. The blueberries on top really brought it together. The corned beef hash with cream sauce on top. Just wow. Definitely a must try if you like corned beef hash! It tasted like it had some pickled bits in it and there were some crispy pieces of the hash that was exactly what I was looking for. We ordered the eggs over easy and it was a good decision. Stopped by for lunch around noon on a Sunday. The wait for our party of six was quoted around 45 minutes, which was the same as quoted for smaller parties. Tables seemed to be turning quickly. We opted to order takeout, which only took about fifteen-twenty minutes. My one major complaint: my family hates pickles. We stated to begin that all of our order was no pickles. As we ordered, we each said specifically, "with no pickles!" No pickles. I don't know how else we could have said it. No pickles on anything. No pickles. Everything had pickles. Giant spears in the containers, contaminating the outside of the bread with their gross pickleness. Inside of the sandwiches? The horror continued! There were SLICES OF PICKLES INSIDE THE SANDWICHES!
