Listen up because I am supremely qualified to write this review. Why, you may ask? Here's why: Jennifer is the SECOND person I've had tattoo my eyeliner. And my experience with her was night and day different from that other lady. I will just tell you about Jennifer, rather than complain about how painful, unfriendly, harsh and overall unpleasant my other experience was. Because Jennifer is the complete opposite. First of all, I was referred to her by a friend who had been getting work done by Jennifer, and she went on and on about how great she was. Ha, well I'LL be the judge of that. Her office is professional and inviting, and she is a lovely and sweet woman. The first and most important thing she does to you is apply anesthetic to your eyes, and then leaves you by yourself in the room for 45 minutes to take a nap or just relax while the anesthesia takes full effect. THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE between a horribly painful experience and one that you can hardly feel. Trust me when I say that getting your eyes tattooed is not for sissies--- but if you go to Jennifer, it is absolutely as painless as you can get. She is meticulous, careful, gentle and responsive. Jennifer Portley is an amazing permanent make-up artist! I was SO nervous to get permanent eyebrows and end up like Spock. But, my natural eyebrows are REALLY light and when I don't wear make-up, I am so plain. It prohibited me from going swimming, being seen without make-up, etc, etc. But, now that I have eyebrows, it makes all the dif in the world and I feel more confident to do some of the things I didn't want to do in fear of how I would look. My friend went to Jennifer a few years ago and earlier this year I decided it was the time to check her out. She was a pleasure to work with. I knew I was dealing with a maticulously clean and skilled professional. I had my eyeliner done and she was extremely patient when we were making sure to perfect the outline. She was great and making me feel at ease and comfortable. It turned out so great and due to her special pre and post procedure steps I barely swelled at all. When I got home my husband questioned if I had even gotten it done because he was expecting reddness or atleast more swelling. This is a long over due post, which may work well with permanent make up. I've had the time to see how it would look after a few months. First, Jennifer is the sweetest person. I didn't know her before this, and she treated me as an old friend. She was quick with responses, and transparent with what to expect. Second, her work is phenomenal. I got my eyebrows done by Jennifer and she was AMAZING!!! She was very professional, kind, patient, and explained everything to you beforehand. She did such a good job drawing in my shape that I didn't ask her to tweak anything. A true perfectionist! She measures everything, so both eyebrows were aligned. She numbed my eyebrows for about 45min and I barely felt the needle during the procedure. I was nervous that it would hurt because my previous experience with permanent make up was not pleasant. However, I didn't feel a thing. In fact, I even feel asleep during the procedure. I'm very happy with my eyebrows. She did the hair stroke technique, so my eyebrows look very natural. This review is long overdue. I'm a 74 year old woman who has never had eyebrows other than a very few sparse ones that all twanged in the wrong directions. I grew so weary of penciling them in every morning but agonized over getting them done permanently. I had visions of looking like one of the Angry Birds if things didn't go well. Finally, I made up my mind to go for it. I found Jennifer on Yelp, held my breath, and called her for an appointment. Upon arrival, I started to feel more at ease. Her office and work area were cozy, inviting, and immaculately clean. Her demeanor was kind, reassuring, and cheery. She told me exactly what to expect. We then discussed the procedure, and I felt much more relaxed when she explained that the equipment used would be perfectly sterile. We decided on what color would best suit my coloring (I'm fair skinned, brown eyed, and have highlighted blonde hair). She applied the local anesthesia, and away we went! The procedure was painless except for a small twinge or two. When she finished, I was initially pretty shocked. My brows seemed so dark but then again, I'd never really had any. She reassured me, saying they would lighten up in a few days, which soothed my frazzled nerves. Within a week, she was absolutely right, and I finally had eyebrows, beautiful eyebrows! Of course, I followed her directions regarding the aftercare. I went to my follow up appointment a month later for any necessary touch-ups, and we decided to tweak the color a little bit - I was ecstatic once the color settled down because I finally had beautiful, natural looking brows. As a natural blonde with pale lashes and thin, nearly invisible eyebrows, I was tired of waking up in the morning and needing to put on a bunch of makeup to feel like myself. (Only to have my face wash right off if I went for a swim or took an extra shower.) I decided it was time for a more "permanent" solution. After reviewing quite a few permanent make-up portfolios, Jennifer's work really stood out to me for it's symmetry and natural feel. To me, her work seemed superior even to artists charging double her prices! I made an appointment with her last September to have both my brows and upper eyeliner done. What can I say? It was so worth it!!!! Right off the bat Jennifer was very professional and warm. Her office is clean, and she opens her needles in your presence so you know they are sterile. With the numbing gel, my eyebrow procedure was nearly painless. The eyeliner was pretting intense (especially because I like a nice, thick line) but Jennifer reapplied the numbing gel as often as possible and offered breaks when needed. For the first week or so after my permanent make-up application-as Jennifer had warned me-the tattoo lines/color were very bold and appeared misshapen due to normal swelling. But after that first week? Wow! My eyebrows look a million times better now than on my best day with pencil and powder. And the eyeliner is great! I usually wear it just as is, but it's easy to change up the color with a gel liner when I want something more dramatic. My daily make-up routine has gone from half an hour to 15 minutes or less :-) I don't hesitate to recommend Jennifer to my friends, so this online review is long overdue! I also went to another person prior to seeing Jennifer. My experience with the other woman (not Jen!) was in my opinion, a complete nightmare. One eyebrow was higher than the other, and the other one was longer than the other. When I got home that evening, I searched online trying to find someone who could help me rectify the problem. I waited a long time to find someone who knew how to put professional make-up on, as she does for many actors in films, and was a permanent make-up specialist as well. This makes all the difference in the world! She carefully studies your face, the shape of your eyes, and suggests how you would look best. Jennifer was very thoughtful, patient, and considerate. She explained the process in detail and we agreed upon what she would do. The difference between her and other estheticians is her artistry and technically she allows an hour for the anesthetic to ensure clients of minimum discomfort. (I did not find the process painful at all.) With Jennifer's sure hand and confidence, I knew I was with someone who loved her work and wanted to do her best; this is really important. Jennifer is very sweet and a true artists. I came to Jennifer because I had really boched eyebrows done by someone else. I have blackish brown hair,and the women who did my brows the first time gave me grey blocks. It was awful! I would never leave the house or go the gym wiht out makeup forever water proof eyebrow gel on. (BTW this stuff is the best and never budges). But this is the exact opposite of why I wanted to get my brows done. I came to Jeniffer and she first color corrected my brows, and then she went back and gave me that beautiful brush stroke look. I never write yelp reviews - but Jennifer is amazing. I am blonde with blue eyes, blonde eyebrows, and blonde eyelashes. I went to her for permanent eyebrow make up and permanent eyeliner. She takes as much time as necessary to ensure that the procedure is done exactly as you want it. She pays so much attention to detail. The eyeliner is slightly more painful than the eyebrow procedure, but Jennifer is great with applying anesthetic as needed. I've never gotten a tattoo, and this procedure was definitely tolerable. I love waking up every morning with defined features and a nonexistent morning routine. So worth it. read more

This woman is an absolute WIZARD. I was in the habit of plucking the holy heck out of my eyebrows all throughout high school, to the result that they just never really grew back. She took truly great pains to make sure we penciled in the perfect shape before getting started. The tattoo process itself was just a tad bit nippy in the beginning, but because she reapplies the numbing cream after every pass on each brow, I was totally comfortable after the second dose.
