Our friends in Prior Lake took us out to this restaurant, and we had a great time! It was packed, so I think a reservation is a must; the decor is dated but cozy. The menu has a lot of options that sound good. I ended up getting the "chicken" entree and it aaa great! Two chicken breasts over mashed potatoes and covered with a delicious cream sauce. I do wish it had some asparagus included or some other vegetable but in any case, I enjoyed the entree! My husband got the NY strip and it was fine, served with a salad, but all other sides are a la carte. I think the cocktails are a weakness, not a huge variety and none were appealing to me, so I went with wine. read more

I've been to Sul Lago more times than I can count, and I've never had a bad experience. Hands down the best Italian spot south of the river, consistent, welcoming, and always delicious. The staff is top-notch, Shauna, Zeke, Julie, and Jared make you feel right at home and always deliver great service. The ambiance is homey, it's a little hole in the wall under an apartment building. Beautiful and small little local Italian restaurant. Some of my favorites: Chicken Parmesan - absolutely to die for and large portion Steaks - cooked perfectly every time and great plain or with Sul Lago sauce Bruschetta, mussels, salads - flavorful and fantastic starters Delicious cocktails - well-crafted and strong Desserts - the blueberry bread pudding + chocolate cake are both unreal The filet tip gnocchi is a go-to, but I love trying the nightly specials, every pasta I've had here has been fantastic. read more

We arrived on what was a concert night in the neighboring park. It was a bit crazy initially, with one bartender the drink order was a bit delayed but the setting was comfortable. The location is interesting, in the street level of a senior apartment building near downtown Prior Lake, where you need to snake around the balcony to gain entrance. As we were seated, the bread came with some olive oil, and the bread was warm, we split an entree which provided plenty for both of us. Can't say enough about our expierence tonight. We were First timers. Made a very last minute reservation on a crazy night in Prior Lake. Got a perfect old fashioned at the small bar and then got seated at a table very soon after that. Appreciated our server and all the staff that seemed to be working well together and having a good time pleasing everyone. We liked the Burrata and prosciutto app with bread, Cesar salad and steak tips with linguine. Enough for two to share . Totally will return based on how friendly the staff was and how satisfying the food was. read more

Ok, updated review from my 5 star review from two years ago. This is an economic update. The food quality, service and atmosphere remain 5 stars. I am pulling Sul Lago out of our frequent rotation due to pricing; the new menu and adjustments simply aren't one of the best luxe value experiences in the Cities/Suburbs any more. Some fresh data points from what appears to be the new menu: the Wednesday filet couples special is now $99. Big jump. I do note that the filets are only 10oz options- no 8 or 6 oz options for lighter bites. BUT - That also holds true on their full steak menu - 10oz only. I have no need to ever order a 10oz filet at $52 plus $6 extra for au poive sauce. Our dinner out tonight - two pasta dishes (one was the seafood in pink sauce - heavenly for sure), basket of bread ($7 for maybe 7 slices), and a Diet Coke was $102, including tip.... AND a 3% credit card surcharge. (We have to stop normalizing chargers consumers for the option to pay by CC. I loathe this practice). Again - hard to beat the food quality, ambiance and service in Prior Lake. Holds up for sure. But the economic impact on prices and choices make this now a once in a while visit, vs regular rotation. read more

First time here tonight on the recommendation of our grown children. Excellent service, excellent food and a lovely ambience. Hubby and I sat at the bar and had a cocktail before dinner. The house Sauvignon was delightful and the old fashions were great. The bartender was friendly, efficient and delightful. For dinner, we shared the bacon onion dip with crostini. Very good. I had the fillet with a peppercorn sauce which was 10 out of 10. Hubby had the gnocchi special with lobster and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We had never been here before, and we had a great experience. The ambiance is lovely, with dim lighting and a classic old school feel. The food is great. We both had pasta dishes. Mine had an ample amount of sweet sausage and a delicious cream sauce with truffle oil. My girlfriend got a fettuccine dish with cream sauce and sirloin tips and mushrooms. Start with great cocktails for typical prices of Martinis. Never had a bad drink here. To me the food is ok. Nothing that makes me want to come again and again. Most people stop here for the steak not the Italian style food. Steaks are ok but I learned to no longer order them. Generally over cooked from what was ordered. Portions for steaks are very large and easy to share. Risotto undercooked and starchy. Odd large mushrooms lack flavor of the slow cook risotto method. Caesar salad was delicious. The spaghetti bolognese was not what I was expecting. Long stringy mushy bits of meat in a watery sauce served with penne. Lacked a fresh homemade flavor. Did not come out hot and steamy. It appeared most Italian style dishes on the menu included complicated recipes vs the simplicity of true Italian food with large flavors. They sometimes will have a great daily special to select from. They had sandwiches to choose from if you prefer that. Dessert drink menu had a great selection. Service was great. I had the Ribeye, he had the filet. He couldnt eat his steak. it was so overseasoned, you couldn't taste the steak. My ribeye was the same, and had a weird texture, most likely from the seasoning. I would have expected an upscale place like this to at least wait to clear our app plates and let us finish the appetizer before delivering the entree. The check was delivered while we were still eating in conjunction with being asked for dessert that it didn't look like they wanted us to order. We loved the food and loved the ambience of this place but felt like we were being rushed through our meal. The best Italian in the Midwest. I grew up N end Italian in Boston. Great menu options with Italian to include exceptional seafood. We got #pizza on a Friday by 'special' chef request. Pizza is only M-Th. But, we were early on Friday and they made the pizza for us. This only means we WILL be back Monday-Thursday. Cally , Zeke, Jess and Shana are remarkably good servers! My husband & I chose to try this place for our anniversary dinner because we both adore Italian, but it was definitely a different experience for us than at other restaurants of this type. To start, it's in a really odd location. If a friend hadn't told me that it's in a building with lots of other companies/stores, we never would've found it. Our waitress never read us any specials, which we didn't realize until we overheard another server describing them to other patrons. I ordered a glass of house red wine - which was good - but served in a white wine glass. Two tables near us had their red wine in the proper glass, so I'm not sure what the reasoning was on that. My husband and I were in the mood for calamari, but looking at the tiny portion served to the table next to us, we decided to go with Tomato Mozzarella Salad, which brought equal disappointment. A few greens topped with two slices of tomato and a little chunk of fresh mozzarella is what made up the "salad" and the menu neglected to mention that it's topped with balsamic vinegar/reduction. We sent it back to the kitchen because 1) The balsamic and 2) It would've been overpriced at $5, much less $10. Thankfully, we had also ordered Tomato & Mozzarella Bruschetta, which was delicious (but was also topped with balsamic, which the menu again failed to mention). I was disappointed at the lack of straight up seafood or steak entrees. The seafood is mostly paired with risotto, which I wasn't in the mood for. I was hoping for a scallop or shrimp entree, but settled for the Basil Pesto Linguine and added shrimp. The shrimp were huge, which was a nice surprise, but they dwarfed the small portion of pasta. It would've been appropriate to have at least 50% more linguine. My husband's parmesan chicken over garlic mashed potatoes was fine, but nothing to write home about. To cap off the meal, we were both absolutely floored and massively disappointed that tiramisu isn't a dessert offering. We opted instead to pick up tiramisu from a different restaurant and take it home to eat so we could salvage our special night. All in all, we were left feeling pretty flat and likely won't return. It falls terribly short of other restaurants serving up amazing Italian like Andiamo in Eagan or Chianti Grill in Burnsville or Roseville. read more

We've been here twice now for special occasions (previously for our anniversary and tonight for my birthday) and I'm not sure I'd recommend again. The first time our server rushed us through, but the kitchen was so accommodating to gluten free I was willing to overlook. This week for my birthday, there were problems across the board with everything except drinks. Martinis and the bottle we ordered were exceptional and came out promptly. We ordered two apps, the burrata and the stuffed mushrooms. The burrata came out shortly after ordering but the mushrooms were another 45 mins; our server automatically comped these due to the wait which were grateful for. We ordered the date night special with an additional salad that was on special and the potatoes. The special salad was brought to the table announced as the wrong salad & then was missing a signature ingredient. The steaks for our special were perfectly cooked, however over salted. The risotto was way undercooked and the potatoes were never brought to the table. The evening started rough which left a bad taste in my mouth overall. We made a reservation for a booth several weeks before, but when we arrived they put us at a table. I stated that we had a booth and she said we dont have any. I could literally see 3 empty booths from where I was standing. When I asked to be seated in one of those booths, she was rude and said "do you need to sit there?" Hostess said other people also asked for a booth. Why is their reservation request being honored and mine isn't? My suggestion: if you can't honor a specific reservation for a booth, don't offer the option on your reservation site. And bare minimum, try to appear apologetic. That issue aside, food was great and Jared was a great server. read more

i dined here 16 years ago and had a wonderful experience. Tonight my best friend and I were celebrating our birthdays. She loves Italian I hyped Sul Lago up...., our experience.... we were seated with you have the table until 7:30. Had I known this I wouldn't of dined here. We ordered the mussels they looked appetizing, however they were over done and mushy. The Halibut was good but over priced for risdtto and a piece of fish $46. Scallops were good. Server was good but the whole experience was rushed. Due to the mussel appetizers being mushy and having to order something else we ran out of time and where asked to leave our table before we could order our birthday desert. Our bill was $178 we were charged 3% for using a card and also charged for a little Parmesan added to our Pasta... no bread was offered either. This was not a $200+ with tip experience what so ever. Soooooo disappointed. We were treated as a time slot not a guest. I will continue to go to Giuseppe's in Rosemount a smaller restaurant with exceptional service and better food where you are treated as a guest not a time slot. read more

This place was amazing. We went here for my friend's birthday and it was so good. I didn't like the person that checked us in with our reservation, I didn't look forward to our dinner after talking to him. But the waitress, the food, and the bartender all made up for it. I ordered the steak and it was perfectly cooked, with this amazing seasoning on it. The person I was with got the chicken basil pesto pasta amazing. We got gnocchi both Alfredo and Gorgonzola and it was great. Over all it was amazing evening I would totally go back there. A tucked away gem in Prior Lake. There's a small parking area out front but plenty of street parking in the surrounding area. Strongly recommend making a reservation for the restaurant itself is popular and smaller in size. We ordered wine and warm/hot bread to start with and the Sausage and white truffle oil pasta dish for our main. Wow! The pasta is so good! It has Sweet sausage, tomatoes, onions, fresh herbs, white truffle oil, parmesan and cream tossed with fettuccine. Our meals were excellent, And so was the dessert , all three of us are flight attendants, and we fly to Paris, and the crème brûlée was the best we ever had . Also, the restaurant has such a unique and carefully planned ambience, the music playing in the background was not loud and every song was put together with much thought, i'm a 65-year-old woman and it was nice to hear music that I could identify with. My son and daughter-in-law are frequent customers, I was there with my son and some of his friends for the first time in July. when I was planning on going out with two of my friends for dinner, Sul Lago was my first suggestion, I'm going to be recommending Sul Lago as a go to in the future read more
