I've been eating at Perry's Pizza since I was a teenager, and after all these years, it still never disappoints. The Sicilian Pizza is ridiculously good -- the sauce is perfectly balanced, and the dough has that fresh, flavorful taste that's hard to beat. This Huntington Beach location opened a few years ago after moving from Newport Beach, and I used to visit the Newport spot (and even earlier ones in L.A. County) all the time. Located on the cross streets of Hamilton and Brookhurst, inside the Trader Joe's shopping center is Perry's Pizza. I simply craved Spaghetti with meatballs to go and it was an 8 out of 10. It was good, tasty and plenty with an affordable price under $25.00. However, if you take it to go, make certain they close the entire container all around by pushing all the foils down around the edges. The reason for this is when I took the spaghetti entree out, it had dripped sauce all over my brown paper bag to go and leaked through onto my vehicle carpet while I was driving. Finally got to try this place and I'm so glad we did. It was our first time here and the food was delicious. Ordering at the counter was easy, the staff was super friendly, and before we knew it our food was already at the table. Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. There were three of us and the pizza was more than enough to fill us up. Can't believe I forgot to post a review! So I've been doing this thing lately where I try and go to a famous film location that also serves food. It's been very fun. Ok, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) was filmed here, but they DID work at Perry's Pizza! (It was filmed at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, but it's not the same anymore). Anyways, this Perry's Pizza is one of the few (or only?) remaining Perry's, so it was a good excuse to try it! A friend also gave a hearty recommendation. Said Perry's was the big hangout in high school. For some reason I deleted my pics! It was a couple months ago. Verdict - we got a large barbecue pizza and it might be the best pizza I've ever had! My 17 year old son agreed. AMAZING! We probably could have gotten a small pizza and been full, but I wanted leftovers and didn't mind paying for a large. I think it was $32, but super thick and the BBQ sauce on the pizza was incredible. I pretty much love all pizza, and am not a connoisseur by any means, but this pizza was on a whole other level. Perry's has always been one of our favorite local eateries, but lately, the prices have skyrocketed tremendously and the food subpar. My husband grabbed for me my favorite crispy chicken salad to go yesterday. It was the size of a small side dinner salad and the chicken looked like it had been flattened by a steamroller, a far cry from the chunky, tasty pieces before. Instead, it tasted like cardboard. To boot, there was hardly any chicken or other toppings, just A LOT of lettuce. Hardly worth the $16.60 price tag. Additionally, my husband's chicken sandwich was a fraction of the size it used to be at a whopping $21.05! Such a disappointment. I finally (re)discovered a pizzeria whose pizzas I absolutely love! I say rediscovered because I loved this pizza back in the late 70's and early 80's! I didn't have much money back then but would "treat" myself to a combo special which was a slice of pepperoni Sicilian and a dinner salad with a heap of freshly grated mozzarella smothered in one of the best ranch dressings ever. I was retelling my experience eating this heavenly combo when the idea of searching for it on Yelp was suggested! Lo and behold there a few but only the one on Brookhurst looked like the real deal with the same logo and everything! Upon entering, I was greeted by super friendly staff and placed my order ... when one of the wait staff, Luke, seated me I told him the story of my Perry's Pizza past. He knew all about the history of Perry's and said they haven't changed their recipes since the beginning! He was right! When the food came out, not only did it take me back to each and every heavenly bite back in the day but also made me appreciate the deliciousness that it is, in the present! This is now my "go to" pizzeria when I want a splurge not because of monetary constraints anymore ... now it's caloric restraints, lol! Let me start out by saying the girl at the front was wonderful. I'd give five stars for her alone. However, the quality of the food for the price just isn't worth it. I got the Italian sausage sandwich and not only did it cost me $25 with $2 tip, the quality of the food left little to be desired. My order consisted of a large Spinach Artichoke Pizza and a side of garlic bread twists. This thick crust pizza came topped with red sauce, fresh spinach, mozzarella cheese, chicken and thick pieces of artichoke. I'd definitely categorize Perry's Pizza as gourmet.
