The pricing structure of the gym is clear, convenient and about 30-40% less than what you will find in West Hollywood (trust me, I've shopped around). There's no 'hard-sell' and after one session you will be sold. Kekoa is an incredible value. You truly feel you are training with a world-class expert who uses what I believe are tried-and-true (read: old school) methods, there are no trendy exercises (that I've seen). Since you are working out alone you can grunt, grit and grimace as much as you want. I think Rick wears your grunts as a badge of honor. This gym is not fancy, lots of metal plates and has everything you need. Also, the music is great. Old school hip hop, classic rock, and beat-heavy reggaeton are all rotated. We do whole body workouts that focus on improving fundamental movement skills that are fresh each time. He is as interested in flexibility and balance as he is in strength or power. He seems to have particular skill in designing exercise regimens around chronic pain or injuries that don't completely avoid or overlook the injured area, instead helping to integrate it back into the body's movement. I have seen him work equally well with 4 year olds, 40 year olds and 90 year olds, and I've also seen him work with people who are out of shape as well as top athletes. He is humble, has a great sense of humor, and practices what he teaches. His martial arts training and exceptional fitness level are inspiring. I'm in the opposite spectrum of the usual and I desire to gain weight, as well as struggle with having an appetite. Aziz helped me create a plan designated for my needs and worked around my scoliosis and back pain (helped relieve it if anything). Complete and utter scam. Lack of organization and uncertified trainers…read more I became interested by a targeted ad I received from Carbon on Facebook and the gym doing a "6 week challenge". The video stated that for 6 weeks you will receive free training sessions, nutrition consulting, and an "accountability coach" tracking your food through an app (myfitnesspal) and providing notes along the way. In exchange they use you for marketing purposes to launch their new gym. Didn't seem like too much of a catch. I went to a consultation and Tashe gave me some more details on the program, and an additional catch. The additional catch is you have to put down a $700 deposit, and the only way you get the deposit back is if in 6 weeks you lose 20 pounds or 5% body fat. I have been wanting to make a change to my body for a very long time. My diet was terrible and I was finding every excuse under the sun not to work out. At first I saw this as putting my money where my mouth is and making a change for the better. I later went to a "fundamentals" session with my accountability coach, where she took my stats on a handheld BMI machine...Later I found out by a licensed nutritional therapist these machines are known to be wildly inaccurate. I was told in my consultation that classes would be offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening during the week and morning classes on Saturdays. However, that wasn't the case. Some days they offer morning classes during the week, but on Thursdays for example they only offer 2 classes in the evening...So unless you're free in the evening no class for you! Oh, and that's also if you can get into a class. I tried 4 days straight my first week and all of them were booked up. On the 4th day I told my accountability coach and she said "oh sorry, keep trying!" The program said you have to take a minimum of 3 classes in. It's week 1 and I haven't been able to get into a single class. I had been following the diet plan and hadn't really lost any weight. I got very concerned about all of this and went to see a nutritional therapist through my health insurance. The therapist stated this goal was wildly unattainable for me. For my body type she recommended 2lbs/wk as an attainable weight loss goal. I communicated all of my concerns to Justin and I was completely taken aback by the response. He was so incredibly patronizing, and offensive by his commentary. He questioned the credibility of the nutritional therapist and labeled me as a quitter. Highly unprofessional and didn't directly address any of my concerns. ...Making PERMANENT changes to your health is such a hard process physically and emotionally. I felt completely disrespected and hurt by what he said towards me and I was shocked given all of the positive reviews on here of my experience. I also realized that Justin isn't highly certified in personal training, or at least he doesn't show any certifications on his website...which is never a good sign. Lesson learned to check for credentials! I felt taken advantage of by this business model. I would not recommend for that alone.
