It is super dry and the noodles are kind of tough. For a house special dish I expected more meat than this. I should've just got the Generals Tso Chicken instead.

Decent but not spectacular. Was recommended to us while in town and was a little disappointed in the flavors but was fresh.

The noodles were tender with a nice, bouncy texture. The sauce had a good balance of salty and sweet, and the beef was tender and flavorful. Jalapeño Chicken Noodles -- 5/5 The jalapeño peppers added a great crunch and paired really well with the texture of the noodles. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was light enough to let all the flavors come through. Definitely a favorite! Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings -- 5/5 The wings were cooked to perfection--crispy, crunchy, and well coated with seasoning. The crispiness paired really well with the overall dish, and every bite had great flavor. Beef Pancakes -- 2/5 This was basically like a hand-held burger stuffed inside crispy dough. The onions added a nice flavor to the beef, and the chili oil on the table paired really well with it. However, I think it would have been much better if the beef had been mixed with a sweet soy sauce for a little more flavor and balance.

I'm a chef myself and travel to different restaurants regularly, so I try to be understanding. That said, the service we experienced yesterday at Stock Pot was unfortunately some of the worst I've had in quite a while. We sat outside, and it honestly felt like we were being deliberately ignored. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet we had to wait long stretches just to get basic things. At one point near the end of our meal, we asked for a box and our check. Instead of bringing it over, the waitresses stood around talking with other waitresses, while we continued to wait. After sitting there for quite a while, we eventually had to ask for the check and box, a second time. Throughout the meal the service was inconsistent. We had three different waitresses checking on us, but were left to sit for about 30 minutes alone at one point, and it took almost 20 to have our order taken, once we ordered, we had to request our appetizer again, after waiting another 20 or so minutes. Upon asking, again, we found out they were out of part of the appetizer we ordered. After that it came out quick. The food, however, was excellent and definitely the highlight of the experience. That's why this review is disappointing to write -- the kitchen is clearly doing a great job. I just hope the service side improves, because it didn't match the quality of the food.

The type of dishes they serve are Burmese food, which I never tried before. Would my first try be a home run or a strikeout? Walking inside, you can tell it was very chilled and laid back. They have a few tables and the decor is really nice. Very intimate for yours truly. Once we got settled, it was time for ordering. For apps, we had fresh shrimp spring rolls. Very good and full of ingredients. The peanut butter sauce was really creamy. A great condiment to the rolls indeed. The icing on the cake....Shan Khow Swae, which is their Burmese chicken noodle soup. It was absolutely delicious. Curry chicken in chicken broth topped with crushed peanuts....this was made with a lot of love. This came in handy on a rainy Winter day like yesterday. They are an Asian fusion restaurant, but they offer Burmese dishes. I was excited to try them out because I've never had Burmese cuisine. I'd like to believe Mommy Mom may be the first Burmese restaurant in Hampton Roads, but I can't be sure. At the least, this is, for me, the first time I've come across a Burmese restaurant locally. During my first visit I ordered the following: spring rolls for an appetizer; and for my entree, Kyae Oh (Pork Noodle Soup), which is a noodle soup with vermicelli noodles, quail eggs, tofu, pork meatballs, mustard green in a clear pork broth. The spring rolls were a safe option, but nonetheless excellent, as I've had them at other Asian-oriented restaurants. The Kyae Oh looked appeasing on the menu and tasted fantastic (it kind of reminded me of the Philippines' sinigang) when it arrived at my table. Both items arrived quickly upon ordering and my server (who was also Mommy Mom's owner/operator) was kind, gracious and was always smiling. I enjoyed my initial visit and decided to return as soon as possible. Sadly, though, I didn't get around to returning until October, but I still enjoyed a fantastic meal and excellent service from the same owner. During my October visit I had fried dumplings as an appetizer and followed that up with Ohn Noh Khow swae (Coconut Noodle), which are egg noodles in a chicken curry & coconut milk soup base and boiled egg. The dumplings were excellent - fried perfectly and had a great crunch. The Ohn Noh Khow was excellent, too. Considering it was my first time trying this entree, I didn't know how it was supposed to taste, but I enjoyed the combination of curry and coconut milk. The egg noodles meshed well with the soup base and the chicken was tasty and tender. The only thing I noticed is that the Ohn Noh Khow seemed to be a lighter portion than the Kyae Oh I had a few months earlier. I hope that Mommy Mom wasn't already forced to cut back portion size. After two visits, I feel Mommy Mom is a fantastic place. Their facility is clean and organized, its owner is kind, polite and helpful, and he can obviously cook good food. I enjoy Burmese cuisine because of this and look forward to many future visits! Thank you, Mommy Mom! JV

I ended up on the combo of their soup and salad since their soup also sounded good. I was hesitant on the strawberries in the wine country salad since I know they're not in season really, but they were lovely. Everything in the salad worked well together and the dressing was nice and vinegary while still tasting of raspberries. It was very well balanced except for the ratio of toppings to greens. I feel as though there was just a little too much toppings. It could've used more leafs. As for the soup, it was a little bland, but after adding salt and pepper it tasted nice. It was mostly soup rather than crab or corn though. That was my only critique really, the temperature was good as well. It could've used some crackers on the side, but it wasn't necessary, just would've been a nice touch. Our waitress was quite nice, checked up on us and got us refills. All of our food came out together and hot. The sandwiches on other people's plates all looked wonderful, and after having a shoestring fry, I can definitely say next time I will be ordering some of those. As far as ambiance goes, it was nicely lit but still moody, which was appreciated. Very chill in there. Only reason I rate it 3 stars is because I feel as though there's room for improvement food wise, and price wise. $20+ for almost everything on the menu is pretty ridiculous. Even for some of the simple items. I don't think the food is that good, proportionately appropriate, or creative to be that much money. Maybe it's just me, but that's how I feel. I'll probably be back to try more items, I'd recommend coming here at least once to try if you haven't, during happy hour to get the best prices if you can.
