After a highly disappointing experience with another local pest service, we turned to PestCal. They're a small and very busy business, but they were able to visit for a consultation within a week. Norman walked through our property and not only showed us problematic areas but also educated us about rodents and how they infest spaces. PestCal's quote was significantly less than what we had paid for the other service six months prior. After replacing all of the low quality patchwork left from the previous company, they visited almost everyday until we weren't hearing any rodents. What the other company barely accomplished in six months, PestCal not only fixed, but succeeded within two weeks or so. I called Pestcal for two reasons. First to get an estimate on replacing the attic insulation and treating the attic for rats. Second to investigate a strong odor from my ac closet. The tech that came out was very friendly, took his time, removed some insulation and debris and didn't end up charging me. I had a good impression of his visit. However I didn't use pest cal. The technician said the smell was a dead rat in the wall and I'd have to cut the wall out or wait until decomposed. Well in two days the smell went away. Techs from two other companies said it was rat urine. They were right. This questions how knowledgeable this company is. There plan to eliminate the rats from the attic was the most thorough but I found their insulation work was lacking. Mostly focused on routine fumigation. read more

"Bedbugs!" we thought, and got quotes from three exterminator services, whose prices were very close. Of the three, PestCal seemed to have the most knowledgeable office staff and they offered excellent inspection terms. We chose them. At the inspection Pestcal correctly identified the cause of our distress. It was not from bedbugs, but bird mites from a bird nesting nearby. On the Saturday they came to work on our house I asked Daniel, who led the operation, how he had learned the business. "It's a family business. I started doing this when I was 11 when I'd tag along with my dad in his truck. We've grown a lot since that one truck." After an EXTREMELY negative experience dealing with PestCal's customer service agents, the owner (Kevin) showed up at my front door to personally apologize on behalf of his incredibly rude and unprofessional staff and offered me a special deal. Kevin -- while I appreciate the old timey vibe of your personalized attention, as well as the sentiment you expressed during our 10 minute chat outside my house, I do think it better form (especially during COVID times) to let a customer know if you plan to stop by in person. It felt a little intrusive -- though I appreciate it wasn't meant that way. Either way, no harm was done and it is clear that Kevin cares deeply about his customers and customer service. I am revising to 4 stars because, as I have stated, while I appreciate the gesture made (as well as the offer which we have accepted due to Norman's professionalism and skill), I am overall quite uneasy about this business transaction, though I will hopefully be proven wrong and be upgrading this review based on stellar service. I am redacting my original post, but suffice it to say that Sonya and Nidya from the office behaved BEYOND inappropriately as I was attacked and then price gouged by Nidya. Pest Cal came on time. The inspector was really nice...Norman....He explained where I had rodent entry and what was needed to get rid them without using poison or glue traps and to close their entry. He did not try to upsell other pest control products though answered questions I had about insect control. After I signed the contract he immediately set the traps and told me when they would be checked. After it is clear the rodents are gone, they will repair the points of entry. Very impressed!!! I had a rat problem another pest control service did very little to fix, and when a friend told me his epic tale of Kevin going to great lengths to help him with his bat problem I knew I had to call him. He did not disappoint. He is an expert inspector and he has pulled together a sharp and dedicated team from the back office to the kind and hard working men who came to do the implementations. They were full service from baiting and trapping to sealing up all the open entry points that were allowing the rats in. Update: On the day after our original missed appointment, the people from Pestcal reached out, apologized and explained they had had a glitch in their system and asked if they could have the chance to try again. They followed up by sending a guy over to evaluate my situation, and then we scheduled an appointment right away. A few days later, Oscar arrived on schedule, and performed the service, politely and professionally. The company was good about explaining how to prepare, as well as what to expect regarding the treatment, and left me with a list of the products they used, so I could do my own research on the internet. They gave me a discount on the service which shows they take customer service seriously. It's probably too soon to tell how well the treatment worked, but so far, so good. And I really appreciate that they cared enough to make things right! I made an appointment with this company, and they said they were sending a technician over to give me a quote the following day between 2 and 4 PM. Without canceling without calling no one showed up. We had some critters in the attic partying at all hours of the night so decided to use PestCal from all their great reviews. Abel was our guy and he came out and advised us the steps that were needed to eliminate the issue. All costs were up front with no hidden fees. The office (also nice ladies) gave us a clear contract and an entire set of appointments that were needed to get the job done. Every appointment was made on time and was impressed with the work the guys did to seal up the areas so nothing can get into the attic again. Mom is sleeping much better now. We were so impressed that we have now picked them up for monthly bug service plus mosquito traps as well (since this area was bombarded by the Aedes mosquito last summer). Sergio came by today, did an initial inspection, and set some pre-traps (to bait those infuriating mice who are currently tormenting the house). He showed up within his window, called ahead, did a speedy, yet thorough, job. I will definitely call these guys again (if it comes to that ) if I have other mice/bugs issues. Absolutely fantastic. We bought a new house that had termite and rodent issues. I got some estimate but no one bothered to explain anything in details. I called This company and gotten an estimate from Kevin, the front office ( Tamara) was on the ball at all time, constant communication via emails. I questioned about the fee and both Kevin and Byron called me on a conference call and were so professional and understanding that I was amazed. After the work was done Kevin came over and showed me of the the way that they did the job, he even told me that he will be back in 3 weeks to check it one more time. I totally recommend them. These guys are amazing and professional. I found them when I had my home sale's required inspection and have used them since. The home I bought has a serious spider infestation along my fence as the previous owners never treated it and they came in and removed webs, killed anything the crawled, and took the energy to do it thoroughly despite it being 102 degrees outside. Despite a couple of no shows, I was initially satisfied. They assured me that all entry points were sealed off to keep rats out. But as the warranty was about to expire we heard some scrambling sounds coming from the attic. The technician came out to inspect, we noticed that the chimney cover had blown off. He slipped it back on, but informed me that they could not secure it and that we needed to hire a chimney person. Why didn't they tell me this to begin with? He inspected the attic but found nothing. He said that they would come back to do one last trap check. Fast forward a few days, lo and behold, we smelled a bad smell coming from the attic. The technicians came out again. They said that they could not find anything and that they would be removing the traps and our service was up. I asked if it was possible to extend the service by a couple of months and they said no. They said I could ask for a new inspection and estimate. They suggested calling an hvac person, as the felt the smell was coming from there. They gave us no recourse. So, after smelling the smell again, my son went to take a peak in the attic. After 2 minutes looking around, he found that there was indeed a trap with a dead rat in it! Two technicians had looked on two occasions and failed to find it. I feel like they did not make an effort to find this as my untrained son found it in two minutes. Also, they did not seem to keep track of their traps as this one was left in the attic. I wasted my time and lost pay, waiting for them on the two occasions when they did not show up. So, I kind of expected them to at least show me more courtesy when the problem surface again so quickly. read more
