I've been shopping here for years. I don't know how I forgot to review this place by now. I deal in bulk when it comes to animals. Some people have Birkin bags. I do animal rescue. I can only do what I do because Pet Club keeps their prices as low as they can. Picture a Costco style bulk volume, but you don't even need to pay for a membership. More often than not they meet or beat prices from online big business stores. I was passing through Santa Rosa, and needed something I forgot to bring for my dog on the short day trip we were on -- I chose to stop at this Pet Club over other big name pet stores. I know Pet Clubs in general aren't fancy, but this store was messy and uninviting, and the fish tanks were quite filthy with algae as well. They didn't have many fish, but the ones they did have were swimming around in murky, green water. We continued to look for the items we needed, but didn't stay long after a cat hidden on a lower shelf unexpectedly attacked my dog for walking past, with several other customers witnessing the situation and asked if my dog was okay. None of us knew why the cat was there, but an employee scoffed at our concern and said that it was the resident cat who lives in the store. At this point, I put my items down and decided to spend my money elsewhere. read more

This is my go to Pet Store. The prices are great and the regular staff is amazing. Sometimes they're understaffed or they get new people that aren't that great but it happens everywhere. The store itself is huge like a warehouse I call it the Costco of pet stores. Lots of pet supplies and a huge fish area. Sometimes I bring my daughter so she can look at all the different fish. Last night I came into Pet Club to get some crickets for my leopard gecko & the young lady who helped was so amazingly wonderful! Not only did she welcome me in, she got the crickets and helped me out with all the questions I had about my gecko. The very best pet store around! The manager took the time to personally assist me in buying 2 front hook halters for my 2 dogs who up until then made my dog walks drive me insane! My shoulders hurt so bad I almost stopped walking them altogether-they pulled nonstop at full force. The very first walk after buying the harnesses was a game changer and immediately both dogs realized they weren't able to yank me around anymore. My 35-40 pound puppy started out with her normal leap and jump in the air when the front hook spun her around so fast she was as surprised as I was. I don't write many reviews but felt this one was well deserved. Santa brought my son a fish tank for Christmas. Needless to say there was a lot more research that needed to be done before fish could go in it. The employees were SUPER helpful, even gave me tank water for our tank so we wouldn't have to let it cycle for 6 weeks. They tested our water and helped us pick the appropriate number and size of fish for our tank. We will be getting all our pet supplies there! read more

One star for everyone except for the one helpful person that I would give five stars to. There is one woman that's in the middle age category that's very nice but other than that it almost seems like they don't want people to be in the store. Especially the guy that works there -he's very unhelpful and dismissive on the phone and in person. He literally told me not to call to see if they got more of a product back in "because they don't order the food". Ridiculous! Last time I went in I got cases of food just in case and although they were ready to stock them and 5 feet from his register, he completely ignored me when I said I had a rotator cuff injury so I would have to carry him one box at a time. Mind you these are small cans of cat food and not that heavy but with a rotator cuff injury everything hurts. Horrible customer service! The woman that I mentioned will actually look for you and she will call you back and accommodate you in every way she can but that is the ONLY person that I've ever found helpful and have been lucky to deal with her a couple of times. The one in San Mateo that I moved from is closing right now and this one might not be far behind at this rate! poor customer service , the self service dog was area was un sanitary. upon entering the store it was a mess there were no stockers putting away things , it was a Sunday, and all isles had boxes to be put away ! Had to wait for someone to ring me up as u have to pay before using dog wash, no problem. then the gal said oh wait i need to make sure it is clean ! Duh ! some other young girl came and was in for a min said ok u can go ! Garbage can was full of hair etc AND FLEAS HOPPING AROUND IN IT ! I live with 2 Labrador retrievers and a giant cat (who thinks and behaves like she's a dog). I'm a good dad, I research and buy the best quality food for them. Pet club constantly prints sales ads in the newspaper and in the weekly junk mail flyers. The marketing scheme seems to be compete on price. Giant store, lots of inventory. Here I have bought car safety vests for the dogs, a big dog crate, a couple of leashes, cat litter over the last few years. But not food as this place does not carry the brands that my pets eat. I buy Pure Vita pet food at Village Pets on Montgomery drive. That brand is price fixed, never on sale. Village pets does have a customer loyalty program. Buy 10 bags of chow, 11th is free. Buy cat litter at Costco. Lower price than Pet Club. If this place sells what you need you'll probably get the lowest price if it is on sale. read more

This afternoon, I needed to go out and buy some pet supplies. I usually go to PetCo for food and WalMart for other miscellany, but a $5 off coupon from Pet Club was all it took to lure me into its Santa Rosa location, directly across from Costco on Santa Rosa Avenue. It was difficult to find because it is located BEHIND a Formal Wear Store and a Beauty Supply House (driveway entry photo). The parking lot was empty, save for about a dozen cars, so I wondered what that meant. We walked inside and the first impression was that of a Smart and Final warehouse type of set-up. The interior layout consists of cement floors that are highly polished, metal warehouse display racks, large signs prominently placed at the head of each row giving a description of the goods that lay beyond and a centralized check-out in front. The store is divided by rows of bird needs in the middle, dog stuff to the right, cat stuff to the left and fish and fish needs to the far left wall. I have never seen so much food, toys and paraphernalia for animals under one roof in my life. And, what was really impressive is that the shelves looked as if they had just been stocked. Neat rows of product extending down each row. We went about our business of buying cat food, littter and hummingbird nectar. The type of Pro-plan we get for our senior cat was not available, so we made our purchases and then set off for PetCo. When we got to PetCo, we pulled out the receipt from the Pet Club and began to do a comparison. One box of Hummingbird Nectar - about the same PetCo: $3.99 for three packets Pet Club: $7.99 for six packets One bag of Pro Plan 16# Indoor Cat food - $9 savings PetCo: $36.99 Pet Club: $27.99 One bag of Friskies 16# Cat food - $5 savings PetCo: $16.99 Pet Club: $11.99 Two pails of Scoop Away Cat Litter - $14 savings PetCo: $17.99 Pet Club: $10.99 On our first shopping of only five items, we saved $28 plus the $5 off coupon. Do you remember the song, "This Ol' Man?" Well the refrain goes like this: " .... with a knick, knack, patty whack, give your dog a bone ..." Well from the looks of things and doing the basic math, if you go to PetCo, you'll only have enough left over to buy your dog a bone. But if you go to Pet Club, you'll save a whole heck of a lot more and be able to take Fido for a grooming and maybe an afternoon at doggie day-care as well. I'm sold. Start spreading the news. In these times of recession, we still have to feed and provide for our pets but at Pet Club, you definitely get more bang for your buck! read more

With the name Pet "Club", many believe that you need to be a memeber. That is not true. There is no membership to Pet Club. Pet Club is a chain located in California. There are many Pet Clubs are in our surrounding Bay Area. And not too long ago one was added here to the North Bay in Santa Rosa. Pet Club has unbelievable prices. They will most likely beat the price of other neighboring big box pet stores. They carry premium quality kibbles at a super price. Just be aware, they ONLY TAKE DEBT CARDS OR CASH. NO CREDIT CARDS!!!! There is a dog wash available. The dog wash is nicely done in tile and deep stainless steel sinks. There are steps for larger dogs. However, it may be the safest to have assistance or a second person spot the dog on the other side of the steps to enusre they to not jump off and hurt themselves. If you have a large older dog, this is a difficult self service to accommodate them in. They provide shampoo, tools and towels. Unfortunately, last time I took my dog there, I remeber that I did not have control of the water temperature and it was waaaay toooo HOT with no way to turn it down. I do like to lift the rubber mat to check for prior fleas. When you use an HV (High Velocity) dryer, they have a tendency to blow all over the place. And if they're not dead, then you don't want them to hop on Spike. VIP Vaccine service is there on the weekends. I still take my dogs to their regular veterinarian because the vaccines are less expensive given by my vet vs the vaccine clinic. I would like to add that I am happy that Pet Club doesnt have a lot of animals for sale. There are some reptiles, fish and birds. I had no idea we had a Pet Club in Santa Rosa! It would have been handy when I had my Doxie but now that I have a growing/very food driven 8 mo old lab, I will be a regular. Our first visit was a couple of days ago after hearing the scuttle butt at the dog park that we have a Pet Club down the street. First impression was that it's clean and well stocked in many categories. Prices are at least competitive, if not FAR below other pet stores. Like WOW, that's how much savings. I've heard people go specifically for dog/cat food but the prices on training treats, toys, bones and chews and even collars/leashes are very low in comparison. Mostly focused in the canine section, the selection of products was vast. And unlike some other stores was more in the business of pet products, not frou-frou costumes, clothing and trinkets. I would have liked to see more variety in the collars and leashes but you can't win at everything. We found a good sturdy collar for the boy dog that will do just fine and seems will last a good while. No harness tho :( All in all there will be visits to other stores for specific needs but as far as the consumables and toy here and there, Pet Club will be our place. And the fur baby gets to shop with us! I recommend this place for that first shopping spree when adding a new furry family member. Drop a lot less coin and get everything you need in one place. I have shopped at Pet Club for at least 8 years and probably spend $200-400 a month, so I am a good customer. Today I was refused service because last week I spoke up about one staff person and 4 customers not wearing masks. I wasn't rude, but my voice was raised because I was upset. Many of the Pet Club customers are seniors and elderly people who need affordable pet food, it is unforgivable that Pet Club is risking the health and lives of their customers and staff. I will not be shopping there in the future even though it will cost me more to shop elsewhere. read more

I absolutely love it here! I go out of my way, passing other pet supply stores, to support stores like this one that care and contribute to the local animal community. They recently donated a HUGE supply of much-needed food to the Humane Society of Sonoma County. That alone is reason enough for me to support this store. I asked them about it, and it turns out this is something they do on a fairly regular basis. Way to go, Pet Club, you rock! Plus, they take great care of the couple of cats who live there. if i could do 0 i would, i should've taken a picture but i understand that yall have pets dropped off there, but take better care of them. one of your workers a lady with piercings on her cheek mentioned how one of the bearded dragons died, another is ill, and that you are all "trying" to take care of them? take them to an animal shelter, animal hospital, reptile shop, anywhere that actually knows what they are doing, not guessing and risking small lives. a leopard gecko NEEDS - humid side and a temp side, and the poor baby is already traumatized without a tail. and or at least don't let the public see those poor babies it looks bad on you. you guys are wild for that, i'd say do better but that never happens does it? good day. read more

I'm actually really happy with the crickets they sell they are really cheap and fat! It's been such a hassle to find them anywhere else even online for the quality that they offer them. Used to like this place but lately it is horrible. First thing when I walk in there is 3 or 4 women all huddle together giggling and staring as I walk in they r employees. Didn't say a word to me . Then I go to the fish area and the fish tanks and fish look horrible !! The tanks are full of brown algae. It looks like nobody has taken care of them in months. Then in one tank there was a huge puffer fish and it looked like it was dying plus the tank was way to small for him . Then I go to check out and nobody at the register all the women were out the front door taking selfies. Very unprofessional. Never going back, first the sold me a dwarf flame gourami which I soon realized was a paradise fish when it nipped at my snail. So I brought him back because this is an aggressive fish and is not what I was told. Was treated rudely by safe even though I called and was told to to bring it back. Decide to grab some black skirt tetras, later finding out that they need to be in groups of 6 or more otherwise they show aggression and start to nip at each and other fish also need to be in a 30 gallon or more. I have a 20 gallon which I had mentioned to the staff. I will now again have to take them back. This staff is very uneducated in the fish department and don't care about the well being of the fish. I used to really like going here for the pet wash but the cashier started saying it "was down for the day" every time I'd go in. My response was always "when will it be back up" and every time the cashier would walk away and come back with the response that they were wrong and I could use it. I started calling before heading in to ask if their dog wash was up for the day but am always met with the response "if you come in soon but.... um.... we'll be understaffed later so you'd have to come in right now." I don't think they actually want people to use their dog wash. And if they do they really discourage it. I'm going somewhere else from now on, as to not further inconvenience their services. If I could give more stars I would!! I've been going to this place for a couple of years now since I will never return to Caesars. They always have what I need for a fair price! But what they did for me this last past week, I will never forget and I will always be a customer to these guys!! I was evacuated for the Kincade Fire and I had no where to house my chinchilla! They were the only place around that was able to take my pet! I gave them a call and they said bring him in. They housed him and took care him for about a week! I never felt rushed to pick up my pet due to the evacuations. I would call to check on him and the were really caring and understanding of my situation! The gracious nature of this place that will house your pets, is heart felt and truly amazing! Pet club has a customer for life! This is the best place around to buy pet food! The prices are far below and of the other places around. I buy Natural Balance; the canned food is about 25% cheaper than elsewhere and the dry food is a full third cheaper. And this is regular pricing! No need to wait around for a sale to stock up. I've always found the employees to be incredibly helpful. The manager offered to let me return a box of aquarium filters that I hadn't even bought there because she didn't sell the filters themselves and I needed a new one. Sure, it would have benefited them in the end because then I would have been buying the filters for that new brand there, but she still didn't have to do that. They recently started accepting Visa and Mastercard (still no Discover or Amex) so that makes things a bit easier too. read more

I bought a 55 gallon fish tank for $117.00 and then found the same exact item at Petco. I called Pet Club and asked if they matched prices and they indicated yes that they did. The person asked the manager and then I was told that they match local prices not online prices. I was told to take a picture of the store price and I would get a refund for the difference. The same tank was only $66.00 at Petco but when I went to get money back I was told that they only match the original price not the discounted price at Petco due to using a club card. I could have gone home and loaded up the tank to then gone back to Petco but I was done. It might have been worth the $50 difference but I chose to just let it go. I will not be shopping at Pet club anymore. Very disappointed with the lack of customer service. read more

Okay, so I keep going here and keep being kinda disappointed. The people that work there are super nice and friendly and easy going. They for the most part know their stuff, and obviously love the animals. Getting someone to help you can be like pulling teeth. It seems like most of the time all of the employees are in the office chatting, and if you walk up they'll just close the door and ignore you instead of seeing if you need help. I was there today waiting with another customer who ended up leaving to go elsewhere because she couldn't get anyone's attention. Add that with how dirty it is and how most reptiles and things there are for "educational purposes" and not for sale, it's a little much. Their only saving grace is that their prices are super low. read more

The good: Prices for dog (and I'm assuming cate food as well) food is good here and they also carry some brands that are hard to find. Their fish stock also tends to be healthy, even if the fish section doesn't look that orderly. The bad: It can be hard to find assistance for the fish that you want to buy. One time we just decided it was too much of a hassle, and decided to not purchase any, which actually doesn't work in the favor of Pet Club (your customers are your lifeblood). The employees (with the exception of a few here and there) generally seem pretty unhappy about their job, and in my experience, this type of issue is usually indicative of a more systemic problem (i.e., low pay, no benefits, management that doesn't care, and even a CEO who doesn't care). In other words, this tends to be a trickle down effect. The thing is if the employees really hate their jobs that much, it really isn't the costumers' fault. Could the experience be better for everyone involved--customers as well as employees? Yes. Are these issues that should be addressed? Yes. My advice is to give feedback (if it's possible) to the person(s) who own Pet Club. Best case scenario would be someone else takes over ownership of this company and breathes some new life into it.
