Wow! Pet Emergency is phenomenal! We had a horrible experience at our current vet Indian Trail Animal Hospital and Pet Emergency really showed us what great care looks like! Two weeks ago our dog was attacked buy a pitbull. It was a horrible experience and I definitely would never want to relive that or wish that on anyone. We took her into Pet Emergency because it was on the weekend and our vet was closed. She was stitched up and sent home to recover. We were advised that we could either take her back to Pet Emergency for her check-ups or to our regular vet which would be less expensive. (Or so we thought) We chose to take her to our current vet but after 2 weeks of visits, our dog was not getting better. She had had too bad infections and we were advised that she had pulled stitches and they were needing to be restitched. We thought that she had been restitched because we paid for Sedation and what we thought was a visit for restitch but apparently Indian Trail did not restitch our dog's leg like they had advised. They just wrapped it up and sent us on our way. Yesterday my husband and I noticed that our dog's foot was swollen three times the normal size and we knew it was because the wrap was way too tight. We tried to get her an appt. earlier in the day at Indian Trail (we had an appointment scheduled at 2 originally) but they were unavailable. Indian Trail said that we could cut the wrap off and rewrap it ourselves. When we did that we were shocked to see a gaping wound on her leg larger than the size of a quarter. When we inquired about this at Indian Trail they said that they had told us about it and we chose not to do anything further. They also said there was nothing further they could do at this point and in fact she would need a skin graph or something called calcium alginate that could cost hundreds of dollars to help heal her leg. I called Pet Emergency and spoke to the Hospital Director named Sarah. She was extremely friendly, extremely knowledgeable and extremely empathetic to the situation. She said that she would like her staff to examine our dog right away because it was very concerning that she had a open wound on her leg for so long. I explained to her that we did not have any money because we had spent so much going in to Indian Trail for rewraps, Sedation pills, Etc and she said that the examination would be at no cost to us. We brought our dog in and not only were they able to stitch our dog's leg up (7 stitches!) but they also provided education on how to change her dressings every 2 days to keep her leg dry so that she would heal quicker and sent us home with a gallon-size bag of medical supplies to do this with. Plus a huge cherry on top...it was done at no cost! Huge shout out again to Sarah, the Vets and techs that gave us the best care that we could have asked for with our baby girl! read more

I can only say good things about this clinic. We were new in town and found them on the web when our reactive dog needed emergency care. They were super considerate of her issues and let us be involved with her handling so she was calmer. They took care of her issue in a professional and compassionate manner. We have been to the Pet Emergency Clinic more times than I care to admit thanks to our trouble-makers. Every time we go in the vets/techs care and are understanding. They are always upfront with how much things cost and give us options. It costs $110 just for the visit, which to me is a minor price to pay knowing that my babies are going to get the care and attention they need. read more

This was the absolute worst "bed side manner" we have ever experienced. The staff is cold (expect for one sweet tech) we brought our puppy in with a cut on his face. The vet didn't let me ask any questions (concerned dog mom here) before telling me "what you can do is leave the room" he then told me "you can go somewhere else" which we had no other options at 9pm on a Sunday. So he could take our scared dog into the back. The receptionists were even worse. He had gotten a drug to make him sleep and then they said "he will be right back to normal after we wake him up" he then comes out of the room and smacks into the door face first because he was still drugged up. Mind you they didn't tell us this. No warning, They said he was good as new. They then shrugged their shoulders and said "must still be high, he will be fine tomorrow" we still said THANK YOU and they said nothing. Just gave us a blank stare. $400 later for our sad pup and the worst service imaginable. PLEASE go anywhere else. This place needs to reevaluate why they are there. read more

The review from the gal from Costa Mesa California who said the staff recommended shooting the animal with a shotgun is not BELIEVABLE. My experience with the facility on three visits ($300.00 / $500.00/ $1500.00 ) is that they are 100% totally professional-competent- and caring...and successfully treated my cats. My only complaint is their "worst-case" cost estimate....is ALWAYS ....what the cost ends up being. My other complaint-annoyance..... is when (in my opinion) the owner of the facility apparently instructs the receptionist to say your pet ________ (insert name) was one of the bravest- smartest- coolest animals they have ever seen. To that I now reply... "I bet you say that to all the people who sign a $1,000.00 VISA receipt." read more

There's nothing worse then finding out that your pet as no quality of life left and having to decide to put it to sleep. The anxiety alone is heart-breaking. But when you are directed to wait in the parking lot due to this scamdemic called COVID while we perform this final procedure, and we will call you when you can pick up your now dead dog, is really unprofessional. But when you don't call me and over an hour has elapsed, and I'm out in the car practically having an anxiety attack over this whole ordeal is disgraceful at best. I had to finally call you to find out that you were having multiple other problems with other clients pets, but you couldn't even have the decency to call me knowing I was out in my car waiting for you to snuff the life out of my little dog so I could take him home and bury him. What happened to the compassion? What happened to the overall common sense and decency to show someone who is losing their pet? Whoever is in charge of managing this part of your business is failing miserably and needs improvement immediately before you get more complaints like this. You should also understand that being concerned more about the high prices that you are charging as opposed to the clients pet is very troubling. I came to you for help for my little dog, which ended up losing his life anyway. But the first thing out of your mouth while I'm waiting to say goodbye to him for the last time is "You have a balance of $571". This is after I just paid you a $1200 dollar deposit. But all you were concerned about was collecting more money. Needless to say, I will not be recommending this place to any of my friends. read more

The woman I spoke with on the phone(Saturday, May 9) Imelda-sorry if spelling is a little off, was seriously the most PATIENT, KIND employee I have dealt with in YEARS. In ANY LINE OF WORK. I can honestly say the customer service I received from her on the phone (three different times-once to explain that my dog had just been stung by something and was completely lethargic, again when in the parking lot, and again when suddenly and amazingly my dog perked up and was back to normal while we were waiting for someone to come out and get her.. COVID procedure) was TOP NOTCH. It is an AMAZING thing when you are incredibly worried about your best fur friend and you call to get info and you get NOTHING but patience and support. And they were BUSY tonight, from the looks of the parking lot. I'm going to blast this all over Yelp, google, wherever. THANK YOU. You are incredible at what you do girl!!!!!! Felt the staff was appropriately concerned and caring. The nighttime vet was clear with explanations of problem., took lots of X-rays to determine if the problem would resolve on it's own (which it ultimately didn't). We were from out of state but they got our dog fit to travel back to our own turf. I definitely recommend these folks. read more

We have used pet emergency clinic multiple times in the past for our dogs and have always had great results and never written a review to be thankful. This time we saw Dr Deaver for our 2 year old cat that decided to nibble on an Easter lily (unbeknownst to us how poisonous they are to cats). Dr Deaver quickly calmed our fears with his confidence and his informative yet personal way he explained everything he needed to do to help save our cat. I cannot say enough about this clinic. I took my sweet 19 year old cat there when she was very, very ill. The vet saw me in front of all other questions, and discussed my sweet Beasley's options with me. Ultimately, for her sake, we decided that euthanasia was the kindest option. The staff was so caring, and did not make me feel dumb during this momentous loss. I was allowed to hold my girl as she passed, and hold her until I was ready to let go. The staff took a paw print of her and sent me a sympathy card. The arranged all the cremation for me, and allowed me to pay in the room, since I was a crying, snotty mess. It was a horrible visit because of what I had to do, but the staff here made her passing a little easier. I will be using this facility as a regular vet in the future for my other fur babies. read more

Very dishonest about billing. We were given an estimate of what the costs would be to put our dog through all of the tests that the internal specialist recommend (because she had no idea what was wrong with our dog but that is a separate issue). After spending $1,100 and receiving absolutely no indication of why our dog had developed lumps all over her body and a sever cough, we received a bill in the mail for $200. I called and they said it was for additional shipping costs to send her blood work to Seattle. There were shipping costs included in the original estimate and when I asked if I could see a copy of the shipping charges, since this seemed like an astronomical amount to send blood work across the state, they said to hold off on paying and they would get back to me. The next time I heard anything from them was when I received a bill in the mail stating it would be sent to collections if I didn't pay by the end of the month. The prices are outrageous for the quality of care and unfortunately, they know they are your only option in some cases. I would recommend taking your pet anywhere else if you can. read more

We were vacationing on Coeur d'Alene Lake from San Diego, CA when our three year old Golden Retriever became 'lethargic' and somewhat unresponsive. It was 9:30 PM and the only clinic we could locate was the Pet Emergency Clinic in Spokane. When we arrived around 10:30 pm, the staff at the front desk were very helpful and immediately took charge of getting "Marley" into an examination room. Dr. Robert Westra, DVM performed a preliminary exam and was very thorough in his diagnosis. HIs professional demeanor and 'bedside manor' were excellent and the follow up recommendations were very helpful. We even received a follow up call from the clinic a few days later while we were still in Coeur d'Alene. We're very fortunate to have found Pet Emergency Clinic and would highly recommend them to anyone in the Spokane / Coeur d'Alene area for those unforeseen pet situations where immediate emergency treatment is required, throughout the night and early morning hours! My Maddie and I LOVE PEC. My little yorkie had kidney disease and bladder stones that came on very quickly and severely. PEC stabilized her and I took her to my normal vet who informed me that kidney failure is progressive and I should just take her home and keep her comfortable - no suggestions, just pain meds. That night I took her back to PEC, Dr. Dru Choker suggested that we do surgery immediately for the stones and that she would refer me to internal specialists (same office) to get a handle on the kidney disease. She said if it was her dog, that is what she would do. I did the surgery which made such in incredible difference in her comfort and have been seeing Dr. Schafgans at internal specialists who has her on a strict diet and quarterly check ups. Long story short they have given me 4 more healthy years (and counting) with my pup and I am just so thankful. The front desk staff is awesome and you have to take into account that their job has to be insanely emotionally taxing. I also had a rescue that came to me with a multitude of issues that they helped me manage in the middle of the night many times and Dr. S. helped me when it was time to let him go with the utmost kindness and compassion. Maddie is healthier than ever thanks to Dr. Choker and her midnight advice. Pet Emergency Clinic and Internal Specialists are priceless in my book. read more

Horrible Horrible Horrible. I was away on business and my dad actually took my very very sick cat here on the first night of two. I took him back on the second night based on the recommendation of the original vet. Here is the thing about them... if you take them in after they have been to a regular vet earlier, you'll never get the same vet twice if they have to be there more than one time. That being said, apparently they make no notes about the first intake so they order a bunch of unnecessary exams that will make you pay through the nose. The second night there they wanted $700 because after listening to my cats lungs for about 5 seconds they thought "perhaps" he had fluid in them. As we all love our pets and are willing to do anything for them I agreed to let them give him the full workup. I came in the next morning at 7am...I was spoken to by one lady whom I'm not even sure was a vet and all she said was "oh, he seems to be doing better." No consult...nothing. All these people want is money. It seems to me that they could care less whether your animal lives or dies. My advice; ask a lot of questions and make sure that the tests etc they are performing on your animal are necessary. Lastly, this place is a COMPLETE dump. I highly recommend you take your pet anywhere else but here. read more

Our dog Ginger was having seizures every 10-15 minutes for over 3 hours, we called and they said to bring her in, and they took us in right away. The vet on duty came in within five minutes of our arrival, he was compassionate, and optimistic that we might be able to stop the seizures with IV drugs .We left her overnight, They did gave us a printed copy of the estimated costs of treatment before we left. There is no way we could have continued to care for her at home, it's so heartbreaking to watch your little friend going through this. She did not stop even after all the drugs they gave her. The vet called around 10am and said they could not do anything else and recommended we put her down. We tearfully drove back down there and they put us in a room and brought her in and the same Dr. talked to us for a bit and then we stayed with her, and we brought her body home. They were all very nice and professional . They have to deal with the ugliest part of veterinary cases, with highly emotional pet parents and they do us a service by providing emergency care when we need. They are worth every dollar they charge for the services they render. I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

I've read some of the 1 star reviews as far as having cash on hand and not accepting patients, but I can say that was not our experience at all. I had called while we were running out the door and asked if they accepted care credit, and if I can just run in with our kitty, she said yes. We were in the Spokane Vally heading to them, when we got about 3 lights away from there I called them and said I think our kitty stopped breathing, they had a technician ready for us who ran outside to take Brownie inside as fast as she could. No questions asked about if we had cash or credit. Unfortunately she had already passed in the car before we could get there, but everyone was amazing with us. There's not much you can say to help grieving folks over the death of a loved one, but they were professional and did the best they could. I felt they truely cared about our loss. I want to thank that crew for being on deck and ready for us when we got there just in case there was a chance that our kitty could of survived. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. After taking my unconscious puppy there in a serious emergency, they were able to save his life. Like most people, I LOVE my dog, and was absolutely sick with worry that he would die. So I asked to go back and sit with him for a bit. I'm sitting on the floor, trying to stay out of the way, and I'm bawling and holding my puppy who's full of tubes and IVs. One of the techs approached and rudely told me to leave that I didn't need to be there and really needed to stop coming in. I could call to check up on him. But not more than once every few hours. Excuse me?? I get that my puppy needs to rest and I can't stay there forever. I wasn't asking to. I was fine with them asking me to leave, but she really was a bit rude about it. And to tell me I didn't need to come in? Really? After watching my puppy almost die I think I'm entitled to see for myself that he's okay before I leave him there for the night. It was a bit much. The next day they called and said he was doing "great." Still not eating, but doing "great.". So I'm thinking if he's doing great, then I'm bringing him home. These people aren't cheap, and I'm quickly running out of money at this point. So I go to pick him up, the vet says it's fine if he goes home, and the next thing I know the tech comes out with my puppy in her arms. He's limp and lethargic with glassy eyes. He barely lifts his head when he sees me. Anyone who's ever had a puppy knows this is not normal puppy behavior. He can barely even walk. So I ask them if he's been sedated for some reason and they say no, why? I point out his severe lethargy, and they totally shrug it off and hurry away. While it was busy in there, I'll give them that, my puppy was really, really not acting normal. I took him home anyway, figuring he's better with me. At least i recognize there's a problem. That night he wouldn't even eat baby food. He literally only moved to go potty, and he would cry with every step. The next morning my personal vet called bright and early after getting his PEC records faxed over. They asked how he was doing and I told them he was extremely lethargic and hadn't eaten in several days. They said bring him in NOW. Before we made it out the door, he had pooped a puddle of straight blood. My vet took one look at him and said, "I think he has intussusception." Sure enough, he did. He required emergency surgery and had to have over a foot of small bowel removed. His intestines had already started to die because of PEC missing it. Much longer and he would have died. So yeah, they saved him the first time, but missed something very critical, which he had classic signs of. I'd go back if I had to because they're the only place in town, but I don't trust them a whole lot. Even a non-veterinary person knows that a 12-week-old puppy who's lethargic and won't eat is in trouble. read more

My little dog had been sick, lots of tests in a specialty clinic, but continued to not eat, shake, and pace in our back yard. I rushed him to the clinic because his body tremors became worse, his rear end collapsing, his head would tremble. Little guy is terrified of vet clinics, paced in the room, vet came into and did neurological exam, vet tech held my dog, this tech was very cold, very cold, and it was upsetting to me. Vet said could be neurological issue in addition to severe pain from back/knee pain/potential ulcer. My pup was nearly 13, terrified, in pain, and I made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. Wanted him sedated first so he would not feel afraid or pain from needle. Vet did this, but when my little dog was put to sleep, I was crying and the vet said, "Take a breath" -- take a breath? Vet seemed to be in a hurry to take my dog away. No one offered comfort as I was sobbing at the desk paying the bill. No one offered any comfort at all. The staff is cold, unable to relate to others' grief and pain from losing a beloved companion. I will never go to this clinic again. I had thought about putting my dog in the car and driving to Portland, where we just moved from, as emergency clinic doctors/staff are incredibly compassionate and comforting to all who suffer loss or see their furbabies suffer. Clinic staff is lacking in compassion, empathy, and understanding. Shockingly cold. read more

Pet Emergency Clinic was exceptional in their care of my cat with her first sudden bladder infection. Dr. Deaver was excellent in diagnosis and treatment with the newest meds. He demonstrated great care, even affection, for Tiger. The emergency fee is understandable. The med injections are comparable to my vet's costs. We paid at the end of the appointment. We were not asked to pay at the beginning. I fully recommend this emergency clinic and Dr. Deaver. When I read negative reviews, I was hesitant about coming. Yet I only experienced well-trained professionals, a friendly staff, and a clean, new, bright environment. Thank you! read more

We were so thankful to have a place to bring our kitty whose stiches came open two days after surgery, and in the middle of the night no less. He was in pain, and we were worried sick. The front desk team was so wonderful and friendly, and our feline friend was looked at and treated with care and a sense of urgency. We could not have been more pleased with the visit. Didn't like how my dog was treated and didn't like how I was treated. They even lost our X-rays and so I have to redo at my expense. Won't ever use these people again. We took our old dog there and he was left for hours with no food or water or medicine. Please bring your wallet, they only care about money not how they make people feel. My 15 year Cat was having trouble breathing and had the shakes so I took him in late Thursday night. The Vet saw him quickly and explained all the alternatives. I was very confused so she guided me to the best alternative and even set-up a ultra-sound appointment for me. I am happy to say he is doing great thanks to their care. read more

I found rat bait in our drive way and I knew my dog was outside. I feared the worst and called. The receptionist was calm and clear with her advice and I started to pack up the dog to take him in. Then I stopped to google direction and started to read the reviews and I started to second guess taking him here. I knew he needed to be seen. So off we went. From start to finish, nothing but sincere and honest concern for welfare of our dog. The Vet was just amazing!!! So indebted to her. Thank you Dr. G. Despite fearing the worst I was never so happy as to see vomit. Dog was cleared, no evidence of ingesting the poison in his stomach contents and I gladly paid the $176.00, Total peace of mind and healthy if somewhat groggy and annoyed Scottish Terrier!! read more

PLEASE if you can wait for your own vet, do so!! My beloved cat went missing for 3 days, then came home in the middle of the night. He was alert and purring when I helped him on my bed and cuddled me. I turned the light on to check him over and seen nothing wrong except he seemed lethargic and his back side seemed sore when I tried to stand him. All he wanted to do was lay down by me but NO I had to take him to the ER to make sure he was alright... That's when our nightmare began! Dr Codr came in the room and looked at Sammys mouth, felt his abdomen, and felt his back side and legs (A helper was in prior and took his vitals). He told me that he would have to run blood work, x-rays, diagnostic tests, etc to properly diagnosis Sammy. When he told me the estimated cost of possibly in the thousands I immediately told him I could not afford that (I am a disabled VET). I asked if we could hydrate him and give him oxygen he suddenly changed his tune and stated {these words will never leave me} now matter what we do for Sammy the end result will surely be the same, death. He told me the best thing to do at this point is to euthanasia him. He then left the room and his helper came in immediately, put a IV lock in his little leg and of course I was crying and Sammy was on my lap meowing. I told her I needed to see the Dr again so he came back in the room. He AGAIN assured me euthanasia was the only way. So I signed the paperwork to KILL my love. Costed me $110 for the exam and $120 for the killing of my baby equaling $230 and I went home in shock without him!!! After thinking about the whole ordeal I called and asked for the Dr notes and diagnosis, etc receiving it a couple days later. COULD NOT believe the report ie pulse and respirations within normal, temp a little high, abdomen non tender with no apparent pain, rectum clean exterior, mouth clear of masses, no obvious wounds or bruising . Diagnosis is LETHARGIC!! When I called the so called Dr stated that I signed for the euthanasia so there is nothing more to say... I have called 5 more times throughout the weeks to speak to his supervisor and he (Dr O'Dea) has NEVER called back to this day. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS WHAT I SHOULD DO NOE? I am very thankful for the Pet Emergency Clinic. I had to take my cat in, and eventually he had to be put down. The clinic is very clean, the staff are incredibly professional and also caring. The docs know what they are doing - moreso than my regular vet. Test results are faster than my regular vet. (More expensive, certainly - but worth it to have fast results and put my cat out of his suffering as soon as possible). This is a very busy place with lots of different animal scenarios. But we received full attention from the docs and staff. I am grateful for their kindness as we said goodbye to our kitty. read more

We took our sick cat to these people and were told she needed surgery. They quoted a price that was way out of our means. At that point we told them to put the cat down. Later they called and told us one of their employees wanted the cat and would we sign a release form. We found later that they did the operation. I wonder what the employee paid for the surgery. I brought Rikko in before leaving on vacation, a small eight year old chih- pom. Rikko had been sick and saw the vet three times before arriving at the pet emergency clinic. My fear was that he was suffering, and felt there was possibility of life-threatening illness. I was there to end his suffering, and had made the decision if he was beyond returning to health, I would have him put to sleep. I tried to relay this sentiment . The vet took a look at him, listened to me recall what I knew of his well-being. Then she lectured me about caring for a geriatric dog. Shaking her head at me, she explained it wasn't right to have him put to sleep just because he was getting to be some concern and work. She prescribed pain med and stomach med for him. Ten days later he died in my arms. I loved him and wanted to ease his pain. Instead I was guided to feel guilty for my concern and love for my baby rikko. I won't be back. We took our 10 yr 2 month old healthy golden retriever here. They called us 3 hours later to tell us she was dead. Her blood pressure dropped severely during the procedure and they finished the cat scan and put her in recovery with no monitor, where she died. We are devastated. When I asked them not to charge us , they said to write a letter with our concerns, so we did. This is it. Friday, September 12, 2013 Dr. Ramirez, We were asked to write you regarding the death of our dear Trigger dog and our concerns regarding her care with you. We were referred by Dr. Tammy White. We entrusted Trigger with you for what we assumed was a minor procedure, and although we do realize there is some risk associated with anesthesia, we know it is extremely rare. We are heartbroken, Tom and I, for what we feel was a loss that could have been avoided. We do not understand why she was put into recovery with no blood pressure monitor after her pressure dropped half-way through the procedure, as Dr. Ramirez explained to me on the telephone. or even why you continued the procedure at all when you saw an unusual drop in pressure. From the statistics I have read, 47% of anesthesia related deaths occur in recovery and, if she was not stable when she went there, then we feel she should have been monitored by a machine rather than a person who from looking at her could not tell whether she was asleep or dead. CPR was a last ditch effort to save a dog who was already expired. Nothing was done to save her while she had a chance to survive because she was not monitored properly. We know there are things that can be done if the doctor is aware of dangerously low pressure, but she was sent to recovery in an unstable condition. We feel that due care was not given and that you moved on to the next patient too quickly and left our dog to die. Trigger's blood tests were perfect and, as Dr. White indicated in her examination just prior to the procedure had a low heartbeat, and was a healthy dog other than a localized tumor. Trigger was a loving and happy dog and my darling Tom loved her every minute of every day. She never stopped loving to walk the mile down to our mailbox and woke up every day looking forward to it. Tom has lost his partner in life and I have never known a dog so loved by any man. My heart breaks for him. We have no children. We were trying to do the best we could for Trigger to give her golden years with no pain. We feel that we made a terrible mistake not to even meet the doctor and let him know how important Trigger was to us. You said you would take good care of her, and we trusted you. We arrived back in Bozeman last night, and this morning Tom will not get out of bed. He is lying there crying, "my trigger dog is dead" over and over. We are heartbroken and hope that you will change your procedures in a situation like this. Trigger may have been 10 years and 2 months old, but we did not expect to lose her in an x-ray. Our worst thought was that her tumor would be inoperable or she would have been lost in the operation, which has a much higher risk. Humans make errors and we understand that. We truly believe that Trigger's death was due to a lack of precaution in her case. We really can't know what happened, but if you do, and we think you do, then you should apologize to us for taking away our wonderful companion.
