My families favorite place to buy fowl, feed our suburban farm family-pets, and staff is amazing here!

Stopped by on Tuesday to grab a bag of chick feed & couldn't help but notice how over crowded & sad their older chick brooder boxes were so even tho I didn't need to add any more to my flock, I ended up bringing home this gal. When I got her home under further inspection I noticed she had feces cakes so hard onto her feet that left any longer could have caused her to lose circulation in her feet & also was missing bottom feathers by her vent i'm assuming due to stress of being overcrowded & trying to compete for space. I hate to leave a bad review on a small business but it just hurts my heart that they have so many "leftovers" that they just shove into pens & hope someone will come along & pay $30 for a 2-3 week old chick that clearly isn't being well taken care of. read more

Extremely personable and friendly. All employees go above and beyond. Super sweet to my son and they made him feel extra special. We are there at least once a week. One of the employees took a baby chick out just for him to look at. They follow strict protocols with the fowl which I appreciate. Additionally, the individuals that load your truck with feed or hay are extremely respectful. It might sound silly but not all feed stores close your tailgate upon loading which Douglas always does. 10 stars. read more

Update September 2025 I am deducting some stars because I've been here three times since my last review, which wasn't that long ago, and looked in on the duckings and chicks next door. The ducklings in particular were nearly out of water two of those times, as in, there was only a little water left at the bottom of the watering dish, none in the reservoir that sits on top of the dish. On one of those visits, I pointed out twice that they needed water, to the girl who was helping me find a product. She said that there would be someone in the afternoon who watered them. But it was already mid-afternoon, and it was 100+ degrees out. It was unsettling. The second time, I was there in the late morning, and I mentioned it to the cashier on the equine side, where I was making a purchase. She said someone would take care of it. I hope that the store sees this and makes sure the baby birds are always watered-- there seems to be some neglect on the part of the store that other reviewers have noticed too. It is very upsetting, and now I don't feel like shopping there unless I know for sure they are making sure that their baby birds have enough water in our scorching NorCal heat. This would be a huge inconvenience for me because they are very close to my house. I feel bad writing this, but animal welfare is extremely important to me. Birds are extremely delicate and it doesn't take much for them to expire in hot temperatures without enough hydration. In hot weather, I check my horse's water and the water of all my pets extra times a day, even the indoor ones. It shouldn't be that difficult for Douglas Pet Supply to check the birds' water several times a day too. Original review: Wondeful selection of goods, especially on the equine side. I haven't spent as much time on the other side, but it seems good, and they offer high-end brands that can be hard to find. I've only had good experience with the staff, and have purchased from them about a dozen times now. On the equine side, they have beautiful riding high-end clothes (mostly English, some Western), boots, socks, helmets, and a solid selection of horse care items-- everything from horse boots, fly boots, fly sheets, fly masks, lunging equipment, spare parts for saddles/surcingles/bridles, etc., as well as lots of fly sprays, shampoos, hoof solutions, etc. They have a nice gift selection too, including Breyer horses. The hay that I've purchased from them was good, and the prices are decent. I've also bought cat and dog food on the other side, and that was priced well too. I came here to leave a glowing review, but after reading through some of the other reviews, I'm distressed to read about what appears to be an inconsistent pattern of neglect of their sale chicks and ducklings. Since I haven't seen this with my own eyes, I can't deduct stars, but it alarmed me. As an animal lover, I hope they are taking better care of the baby birds they sell. I realize you can't be in all places at all times, but animal welfare should be paramount when you operate a business that sells animals, even chicks that may be used for food someday. read more

I recently moved to GB and inherited chickens. This place has been very helpful with keeping my chickens fed and supplies for keeping the coop cleaned up. The staff are very helpful and make good suggestions. They also have a great array of dog toys and dog/ cat food. I like that they grab and load the heavy, bulky items and put them in your car. read more

I Purchased wild bird seed from these jokers and ended up with a giant bag of moths bc they keep their seeds in a hot place in their metal building. They are stealing money every time someone purchases wild bird seed. I wish I knew sooner I called and told someone what happened and her response was that there is no place cool to keep it. So dont sell it then. I was also told I can bring the bag in for a refund, yes Im going to carry a bag full of moths in my car!! Ridiculous! From now on I am buying seed at the wild bird store, even Walmart knows to keep bird seed inside, I wish I knew when I bought it. read more

Yay, got some straw for my strawberry plants! $3.99 for a bag. Wish they had rice straw (less seeds) but I guess the wheat straw will have to do since it seems harder to find rice straw. Didn't have a chance to walk around much but it looks like a neat place. Smells a little funky but I guess feed stores usually do. Tried to pay for my $4.30 purchase with a $10 bill but she didn't have enough change so I ended up paying with a credit card. read more

The staff here are both friendly and helpful. We just started taking our puppy to use the dog wash. We definitely needed help, and they provided excellent overview of how to use the equipment and made our visit productive. Never been here before, and I went shopping for a chicken coop for my future mother in law. The two cashiers had amazing customer service. Not only did they show patience with me, they tried their best to ensure I get the best price. Even the gentleman who loaded my new chicken coop into my car was very professional. Obviously, I don't have any animals, so I can't picture a need to return anytime soon. That being said, I feel if you need to go to a feed store such as this, I would recommend them. I have been a customer for many years, however, with my most recent experience seeing the neglect of the chicks and ducklings being sold there, I can no longer be supportive of this company. There was a dead chick from overheating (second time seeing this). The ducklings were completely out of water and it was very hot. I wish I had taken pictures to post... When I told an employee about the ducklings, she went off to do something else and care for the ducklings were not priority. There were many in a tiny cage (not looking well). It was sad and no animal should have to be placed under such conditions. Please, please, please, make some changes for the better. Everything is usually pretty good here a little pricey that's why I was excited to hear they had their Black Friday sale going on through the weekend. Which I asked them about on Friday and they said it was going on through the weekend. I brought the wife in so she could pick which ones she wanted and they told me the sale was not going on anymore. It was only Friday Saturday which would've been helpful when I ask them about that on Friday I asked if they could still honor that sale price considering it was the weekend because it was Sunday And they had already previously told me I could get the deal then. To which they replied, the sales only Friday and Saturday no sale on Sunday. Now I don't know if they did it on purpose or if they just didn't know what they're talking about but either way it was a disappointing experience from them and I will check other places first and go here only when I have to. read more

I've read some of the poor reviews and I find quite the opposite. I have shopped there for years for my horses. There was an competitive company that is no longer in business, and who was higher in their prices than Douglas Feed. I only shopped with them if Douglas Feed did not offer what what I needed. Now that that store has closed they have even more inventory than before. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. I also have met one of the owners and she was delightful! CHICK BUYER BEWARE! They sell a wide variety of chicks with a posted 98% guarantee from where they get them from. Now, thats a really high percentage rate and if it had only happened to us once I'd say we have bad luck however it has now happened to us twice (and I felt the need to post this as I just had to bury my sick chick this afternoon) We purchased 6 chicks in October 2017. We ended up with 3 Roosters so 50%.... Purchased 6 more this spring (April) and now have 4 Roosters one what we think is still a hen and one that ended up with Cocci disease and passed away today. If you are okay with wanting Roosters I'd take a shot however given the condition where they keep the chickens and how they are handled I would say look elsewhere as there are other options in the area!
