I was tired of waiting for their crab shipment so I bought a new setup and the last "Halloween crab" they had. The "Halloween crab" turns out to be a red land crab that needs salt water and freshwater pools, I was confused when they told me that because Halloween crabs need freshwater, not both. the week before I was told there would be a sale going on and to come buy fish the following weekend, so I get there and the normal prices were covered with a new price higher than the normal price just for 50% off, as said there was a gold fish marked as 68$ (normal price) new one 103$, the new price was a sticker put over the old one look close enough you can see it under for the normal price, wouldn't recommend these liers. read more

I brought 3 plants for my new fish tank all fish were expensive and beautiful... put in plants on February 28th by March 18th all my fish had ick ... it took alot of work take out 10 gallons out of tank replace it daily add ick meds. Did that for 10 days recommended fish looked better on the outside but still one by one started dying within a couple of weeks...all my fish died. I knew better than to buy there fish because it's happened before with them but I did not know plants could still carry the disease. This particular Pet Supermarket doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that dissuade you. This is an extremely nice, very well organized store. The gentleman who waited on me at the counter was polite. I walked inside and not only was impressed that it smelled good (considering they have small animals, birds and fish), but was laid out in such a fashion that I was able to find everything I needed immediately on the first try. (I really liked that because I don't care to wander around trying to find things, I much rather just grab what I need and go.) read more

The people working at this Lakeland store are polite, helpful and patient. Due to our age/health and COVID we are not going inside stores to shop, we call requesting curbside pickups - the people that answer the phone - take our orders give great customer service. They take the time to look up our past orders so our fussy pets will get the food they like. During this stressful time I want them to know my husband and I really appreciate the service - and thank them for helping keep us safe. Yesterday I needed to pick up calming biscuits and chew toys for our dog so I headed to this Pet Supermarket. I was so impressed how they were handling this Covid-19 situation. They had the sidewalk marked the appropriate distance apart for shoppers to stand (glad to see most of us were wearing masks) and an attendant at the door. I was not allowed to wander through the store. She took my order from the door. I waited until the person inside paid for their order, then I was allowed in to pay for my order. Everything was waiting at the front desk. Before I stepped up to pay the cashier sprayed down the counter top and debit card reader. All employees were properly masked and I believe wearing gloves! My initial opinion was this was a great store, spacious. It has a good collection of rabbits, ferrets, birds. Great fish tank varieties and excellent for fish supplies. Due to tremendous variety, this is a great starting point on comparison shopping. However, on successive visits over the past year, it is hit or miss on clerks being knowledgeable, helpful. I am concerned about 3 grown cats in small cages in a hot front window. There were dead betas for sale in the fish area--and pretty near dead ones in unclean water. The store had a horrible odor. These reflections make me NOT want to shop here. 7-3-11. Still has the horrid odor. Busy store. No betas available. Very clean fish tanks. Lots of unsupervised people with hands in rabbit cages. (Poor rabbits.) Lots of clerks visible often visiting with each other--but none acknowledged me. read more

Although the store is clean with helpful staff, we already TWICE had dryfood that was pass date in the last 3 months. Really? Staff members were not helpful. One pointed me in the direction of the item I asked for. When I came back saying I couldn't find it, another staff member just reiterated that it was in that area without coming to help. I found it in the top shelf. When I pointed out to the cashier who may have been the manager that they were on the top shelf and a little more direction would have been helpful, I got to response. I was one of 3 people in the store which had just opened. It wouldn't have been that difficult to walk 20 feet over to help. read more

My 6 and 8 year old boys wanted to get a guinea pig. Ryan and Vic were not only extremely knowledgeable but also amazingly patient with 2 VERY excited and loud boys. Staff is cleaning behind every customer for safety. I had a water bottle that came with our cage that leaked. The manager replaced it with a better brand immediately with no additional charge. This place is so horrible. Most unprofessionally run business in Lakeland. If you really need pet supplies, go to Petco or Petland. Stay away from this store. I've had the store "manager" laugh in my face over coupons they mislead us to believe we could use. They have knowingly overcharged us and refused to give a refund. Store associates are ruder than any store I've ever been to. They do not care about their customers. I had 5 bad experiences in a row, and finally called corporate to complain, and have now boycotted Pet Supermarket. You should do the same. read more

They had 4 employees at the register and only one could get into system to wait on customers. When the second employee finally got into system we were denied our purchase because they could not find us in the system. So every time I go visit my mom I hit this location. It's along the way as I ride and go thru Lakeland. I take my dog to Banfield so petsmart is more convenient for me but I love shopping for my pet here. Lately I have been only going to pet supermarkets. When I come here I always count about 4 to 7 people working at one time. It can get really busy in there but everyone is always helpful. I do think the animal should be kept in larger areas for the most part, but overall the selection is pretty good. Even with all their room and such they don't carry my favorite cat litter though, and they are a bit pricey for what they carry (but this is normal really.) I got my hermit crab from them. They treat them well and they are friendly to bring home - not always the case depending on the pet store environment. They paint the shell cutesy and shiny though, which doesn't hurt the crab, but you have to be careful not to overdo it. Our crab has a bit of the clear glue that hardened over the top to hang a little. read more

I was happy to find out when I called the store, that they did finally remove all of the recalled dog food!

I will never shop this store again! We had been frequent shoppers at this store biweekly for almost two years. We changed up our dog food to Blue Buffalo and the store constantly kept running out. So with the rewards card, we would get one bag free after our 9th bag. So because the store was out on our 9th trip, we had to buy a smaller bag and our reward only paid for a 3 pound bag, versus the 30 # bag we had already bought 9 times...the store manager refused to even discuss it and referred us to corporate. Corporate told us it is up to the store. So after calling back once again and speaking with a supervisor, the sup again told us to call the store. I sent messages on Facebook asking to speak with someone, and the messages were that someone will respond shortly, again another message sent and not even addressed. Their customer service for this corporation STINKS! Their selection on dog food on many occasions has been expired. Pick another store to shop at....it's worth the drive time. read more

I like this store. It's clean, well-lit, good variety, and the personnel are nice and have always been helpful and knowledgeable when I've had questions. They do tend to have cats in cages near the front up for adoption most of the times I go, but in their defense the cages aren't smaller than most I've seen in shelters like the SPCA and at least they're offering them for adoption instead of selling kittens or puppies, which is a HUGE peeve of mine [and one of the reasons I'm willing to travel further than I might normally rather than go to a local pet store which sells puppies - talk about small cages... :( ] I don't recall any unusual odors when I've been there, and I did look at the fish with my daughter the last time I was there, I don't an inordinate number of dead fish, although it was just the one time that I really paid a lot of attention to them. The main issue for me is that it's further from me than I'd like [which certainly isn't their fault!] ,and making a left turn to go south on Florida Ave is really difficult when there's any traffic. read more

We bought a baby rabbit on a Wednesday (Not for Easter gift) Went to walmart and bought all the supplies. The rabbit, My daughter named Colette, was very skinny, but they {Pet supermarket} reassured us, they were Vet checked and it would be better to buy there verses a feed store or craigslist. She was in a large cage with all the goodies a rabbit would need. The very next week 2 days AFTER the 7 day guarantee, Colette, the Bunny died. I call thinking they would want to know THEY SOLD A SICK BUNNY... No, they wanted me to buy another rabbit for another 30 dollars... um No thanks! She asked if we left the bunny alone for 3 solid days in cage, um no, why? Oh you're supposed to. That information would have been nice to know when Colette was purchased. Though, I doubt that's why she die. Even though she was eating and drinking {peeing & pooping} She never gained any weight, Pet Supermarket sold a sick bunny.
