I was taking my puppies here for a long time. Last time was the last straw. Horrible cuts! My male was all shaved, which wouldn't have been too horrible due to the summer heat but his face was all chopped off! My female looked terrible! I took my dog for a hair cut and she came back with cuts on her neck. She's 13 years old, never had any problems at the groomer. She's been laying around all day in pain. The shave on her right side is so close to her skin she's recoiling when she's touched. read more

I usually make a lot of purchases from this Petco location but lately have been unimpressed due to the consistently poor conditions I find their betta fish under. It is apparent that their betta cups don't ever have clean water and are cloudy with waste. I also find many bettas with swim bladder, fin rot and some just dead. I have pointed this out to multiple employees but they don't really seem to care enough to change anything. It is shameful to try and make a profit off of beautiful bettas that are treated so poorly. I hope this store will pull it together and take pride in the way they treat animals. read more

I just had the worst experience in this store. I took my long haired dog for grooming, told them I wanna keep him fluffy so don't cut him, just a little trim around pee/poo area. He came back horrible looking with odd straight cut lines and his fluffy tail was all cut off. I told them that they didn't respect my order. They looked at the dog and told me "We did exactly what you asked for. We will refund you but you are not allowed to come back here in the future." There was no communication, neither apologies. I use Petco daily and always liked there but the grooming service is just not for me. I hope they improve their cutting and customer service skill. read more

Worst customer service ever. I don't know who I spoke to (A woman, whose name stared with Ari___), but I called, 2 hours before closing time to book an appt for my dog with the groomer. Asked if I could book for this weekend, was told "I can't book that". No explanation, no given alternatives. I asked if there was an online booking option "We don't". I asked if I was speaking to the grooming department "no ones here from that department". Me- "Oh! Sorry, I thought it said 9pm close online" Lady-"Yeah, and?" Me-"So it's only 7pm? Can I book an appointment?" NO RESPONSE. me-"I'd like to speak with a manager". At this point either my cheek hung up the phone or she hung up on me. I came by to purchase some new toys for my kitties. Too bad I literally could not walk down the cat toy aisle as it was covered in merchandise. At least two employees watched as my fiancé and I tried to step over all of the stuff to try and view the toys, and no one offered to move anything or even offer an explanation as to why the store was in such disgusting condition. I just left and your cashier seemed appalled that I pointed out two young employees wearing them around their chins while goofing off around the store. One was a large male and the other was a young female with long black hair. I addressed the male and told him as an employee he should be wearing one, but I shouldn't have to. It's your job. We are in town just for a couple months and my Biscuit really needed to be groomed. He's an old guy that's always been very nervous and I was too but both the groomers immediately put me at ease. It's was easy to tell both really had a passion for furry creatures and they were so sweet right away with my little pup. When I came and picked him up he looked beautiful and seemed extremely relaxed and happy. Tatyana was so thorough going through what she had done and suggesting things to look for and it was clear Biscuit adored her. I thought the price was great and service excellent from the entire staff in the store. I highly recommend this store and their wonderful workers! Especially Tatyana! read more

Hey, as far as Petcos go, this one is alright. They sell food and toys for pets, and they offer grooming. Every time I've been in here they are helpful and friendly. Also, they have fish and rodents for sale. I find that the aquarium selection is pretty good. read more

Horrible team member! Today I came in looking for some pet grasses for my cat. There were 3 containers with old, brown, wilted grass. And a $9+ sign under them. There was a brown haired guy standing at the adjacent cash register playing intently with his phone. I asked if there were any more. He would barely look up from the phone. I said "excuse me, I know that is very important but are these all the grasses?" He said yeah. I then asked for the manager who does the ordering. He said he was the manager. I asked his name and he said it was Matt. I then asked "do you think it's OK to have stuff like this on the shelf and charge $10 for it?" He then infuriated me by saying...."you don't have to buy them"....When would it ever be all right to say that to a customer. I've been in the customer service end of business for decades and will tell you the customer is not always right, but when they are, you bend over backwards to take care of them. This is the worst pet store, you have to pull teeth to return your fish if they die within a couple of hours of getting them, I bought the same fish from PetSmart and did not die. I should have known after seeing all of the dead fish intheir filters as opposed to 0 dead fish at PetSmart. The employees here are all lazy except 1 as we can never even find a cashier to check out. I'm not even sure how this Petco is still open. I will NEVER buy anything from Petco again. read more

I'm usually not a Petco shopper but this one is so close to work and I can easily pick up my dog's food there. I just picked up a bag and have to say it was much cleaner than most Petco's I've been to. It's a smaller one but seems to have more merchandise. The cashier was helpful and overall it was a fast and good buying experience. read more

I took my dog to this petco for a simple bath. They managed to mix up my dog with a different dog, even though my dog was wearing tags with her name on them. The result was that they ended up shaving off my dog's coat in the middle of winter. I will not be coming back. read more

I'm writing this review to give a shout out to an employee who really went above and beyond! I believe his name is Perry. I needed a dog house and finding one was not going so well since many stores in Alb only had small and X-large and I needed a medium one. I went to Petco and was looking at what they had in stock. I asked for a price check because the one I was considering was not marked. I was trying to measure it to see if it would fit in my car, but it was up on a shelf. Perry offered to pull it down to the ground so I could measure better. I decided I didn't think it would fit in my car so I left. I kept changing my mind on if/how I thought I might be able to fit it in my car and came back in twice to look at it again. Perry offered to have me pull up to the front of the store and he would bring it out and we could see if it would fit. This really goes above and beyond what I would expect!! I was delighted. Well, it's a Petco, and the closest one to me. I appreciate being able to buy my litter in bulk, staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they stock what I need. We did recently get two canaries from there and one wound up with an upper respiratory infection, but I that's pretty common with any animal from a pet store or shelter and it was easily treated. Most recently I couldn't help but notice how overcrowded the ferret cage looked. Seems to me they could show off some of the fancy cages they have for sale by spreading around the ferret population there. I still prefer Petsmart, but this Petco is about what I've come to expect from their stores in general. read more

I wanted to buy some canned cat food at the bargain price of 28 cents on clearance. I gave them a poor rating because they refused to sell me the food for 28 cents, even though the numbers and description of the food on the price tag under the shelf matched the food cans I wanted to purchase. Bait and switch scam at it's finest, right here! After I complained, the manager took the cans I wanted to buy and put them right back on the shelf above the 28 cent price tags to hopefully scam other customers. read more

The location on Academy and San Mateo is now our to go spot. Employee Nick was very helpful and knowledgeable!

What would I do without Petco! They have everything I need, the service is great, my dog loves to go with me, I always buy too much, and we love the cookie bar. I've heard great things about the trainer there but haven't tried her out yet. My only negative is that the prices are sometimes a bit high. read more

Do NOT frequent. After being a customer since they opened I walked my dog over in 80 degree temps to get a nail trim. When I went into grooming the "groomer" sighed and went into the store to get clippers off the rack. Then she asked me for my info. She had my name, dog's, my phone number but no shot records. She wouldn't do it w/o even though I had been there a couple of months prior with no issue. I went into the empty store and the manager said the previous groomer either deleted the records or didn't enter them. I asked why I wasn't notified, resulting in.a blank look. I took my poodles in this morning at 8:00 a.m. to get my poodles bathed and trimmed. I noticed they looked different when I picked them up but when I got home I was very disappointed with the way their hair was cut. I realize the girl there was new. Nancy used to do my poodles hair and she did a wonderful job. But since she has left it seems to have gone down hill. They cut the top of the hair on both poodles very short (which is supposed to be a pom pom cut on top). They forgot to cut the hair short on the belly of one of the poodles which looks very funny. And overall, the hair is cut very uneven. It took almost 6 hours and I paid 90 dollars. I am not sure I will return. I have been going to this location for 2 years now and I am not happy at all with the hair cuts this time. The staff is nice but looks like they are training lots of new people.
