This review is for the fish department. I stopped in today to get a new snail for my betta tank. I had previously purchased a zebra snail from another pet store but it was a dud. So on my adventure to Petco, I feel that I gained quite a bit of information about my betta and snails. I wanna start by saying I been going here almost 1yr. The groomer that my baby always seen is no longer at Petco. I was charged a extra 22.00 for a package I was told was cheaper than what I usually get. So I was charged twice for the same thing and told "OH IM SO SORRY". It normal takes a lil over an hour...it took 2hours. I sat outside in my vehicle the whole time. When I seen the groomer coming out and light a cigarette I assumed my baby was ready RIGHT.. Usually get a call, I guess the nicotine was more important..there's someone sitting there he could've called me NOT. Noticed nails look the same..called told my baby didn't like it the cut as far as they could go..Baby was not right allllllday LEFT EYE SLIGHTLY RED. SUPER THIRSTY THE REST OF THE DAY. This is the particular Petco that my wife seems to like more than all the others we feel they have more of what we're looking for and the return policy is good and there's always sufficient parking so we like this Petco better than other ones. No that's not to say that the other Petco's are not as good as this Petco it's just that we feel more comfortable here than at other ones. read more

I will NEVER, I repeat NEVER take my dog back to the grooming at this Petco. They clearly weren't skilled nor carried any experience in grooming doodles. Our dog has the WORST choppy trim on his paws which I was already hesitant about having them do. As you can see in the photo they chopped hair off his paws about 2 inches up but didn't make it gradual so the long hair hangs over the now short chopped hair which looks ridiculous. We then had them do a sanitary trim which as you can see in the photo turned out HORRIBLY. In 2 spots the hair is basic bald and then long hair in between. It is completely uneven and looks like a mess. I don't care if my dog was "squirmy", I would have appreciated a call saying that certain services we're going to be challenging because of his behavior. My dog now looks horribly trimmed and I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE. Stay far away. Save your money and go somewhere that actually knows what they're doing. Okay so listen, my girlfriend and I took our German Shepard Wolf mix to the groomers, usually its about 60$ to get his fur washed, conditioned and brushed out. Which is what we get every single time. We went in today and they told my girlfriend about how their toothbrushing being on sale for only 18$, making a total of 78$ So we get the call that he is done and go in and look at the reciept that Ry the groomer hands us and it is 122$, and we immediately know something is wrong with our baby. We look it over, she's cut his hair, trimmed his hair and also made it a point to tell us about the extra hour and a half after her shift was over she spent dematting and trimming him ( which if you recall we asked her not to do, my girlfriend and I like to keep the tufts on his ears and his face hair untouched. ) She then continues to ask us how we care for our dog because while de-matting his tail, like we asked her not to do, she saw his fracture on his tail he's had since a puppy. My girlfriend, enraged asks for a manager and tells her what happened. The manager agrees to give us what happened for the 78$ we were initially told was the price, and tells us that Ry has had to be spoken to before for this very reason. I then am looking over my dog with my girlfriend in the car and notice that his tufts are gone and his teeth have something stuck in them, so I go back in to make sure they didn't floss his teeth and I walk in on the manager telling Ry "not to worry because it doesn't matter" and as I walked through the groomers door immediately stopped speaking and she told me she noticed the string in his teeth and "forgot to tell us" about it. This was the worst expierance I've ever had, Kota Bear didn't even walk up to the groomer to say goodbye afterwards. What the hell did they do to our dog all day? read more

I wonder if they have ever seen a dog before much less groomed one. This was the biggest hack job I've ever seen. They called half way through and told me they couldn't finish because she was too matted. So I picked her up and they hadn't even touched her undercarriage and the rest was such a horrible hack job. Poor baby. I brushed her remaining mats out in a half hour but still need to get her cut the rest of the way. Most places are closed during pandemic. This place should be shut down forever. I scheduled my yorkie to have full grooming services done at Petco four days ago. It took FOUR days to get my dog in because they were "so booked", so we waited patiently. The day before, they called us to move our appointment from 9:30am to 11:30am. Fine, we did that and it was no problem. We dropped him off at 11:25am the day of his appointment and Sarah (his groomer) took him in for his appointment. She did not seem happy or compassionate when I would make remarks like "He has a lot of anxiety" or "He's scared" - She just kept doing her thing without trying to acknowledge what I said or reassured me OR HIM that he would be OK. Most groomers are animal lovers or else they wouldn't have that position. Well, she definitely should not have a position in this store. She took my yorkie and said "It'll be four hours" - I was a happy camper and left feeling like it was going to be OK but wondered why in the hell it would take 4 hours to clean and tidy up my dog. Seriously, he's a small yorkie... but whatever. I still had faith. I'm sure they were allotting enough time for certain situations and I get that. So, I happily left. We waited until about 3:15PM and it was about to be 15 minutes to 3:30PM... the 4 hour mark. WE called them to see how things were going and someone picked up letting us know it'll be longer than anticipated. She said that Sarah had other walk ins come in and that she "truly apologizes for how long it's taking. It'll be another 45 minutes. However, It might be sooner". Um, no. Not acceptable. You want to provide good customer service, then why did we have to call you? You are telling me it's going to TAKE ALMOST 5 HOURS to clean and tidy up my dog? Bull. I simply said "OK" over the phone. Instead of waiting, I came right then and there and walked in, not happy to see what they were all doing. Someone greeted me knowing I did not look pleased and I said I was here to pick up my dog. I literally look to my left, and Sarah had my dog leashed up ABOUT to cut his hair. She didn't even CUT his hair yet. I look at her and she goes "Do you just want to take him, I only took a bath for him" - I looked at her, dumb founded, "YOU HAVEN'T EVEN CUT HIS HAIR!?" She responded with the most dumbest shit I've ever heard in my life. "You know we have other dogs" - OK, Let me get this straight Sarah... You take precedence in walk in dogs or any dogs (because theres other dogs per Sarah), over my dog, therefore pushing my time? What is the point in scheduling appointments ahead of time. Get your facts straight before you let something dumb like that slip including the person who took the phone call. Or at least over communicate what happened. If the person said you were so apologetic, show it in your FACE and in your voice. I didn't get anything of that. You simply wanted to hand over my dog without completing your services because you had other dogs? Then don't double book your schedule, simply as that and take accountability. That is absolutely not my problem. I have a very hard time accepting this kind of behavior and customer service. If anyone who is a dog owner, UNDERSTANDS, that not every dog is the same. When I was there, I realized a lot of dogs seems to cooperate and behaved. No, not Kobe. I get that. But they need to understand too that he has anxiety and no dog wants to be there for even 15 minutes. Therefore, the compassion in Sarah's customer service was mind bottling. I didn't hear her reassure him even when she took him in or even when I walked in like a pissed mom. If that was me, trust me. I would be speaking to the parent like, "Hey, I'm so sorry, this is no excuse but... blah blah blah. BUT- Don't worry, he's OK. It'll be just 15 more minutes." But no. Right off the bat, she shows no sympathy and tries to hand over my dog without telling how he is, what happened, ect. She knew I was going to get really upset so she cuts me off and goes "I'll get a manager" and calls her over the speaker. Not to mention, when she hands me to him, no compassion. She handed me to him like he was SOME animal. I was about to smack her in the face. Don't have a stick up your ass because you got called out. Katie, the manager came and heard me out. She was very SINCERE and listened to what I had to say. Now that, is customer service. She waived my services and APOLOGIZED for my experience. Was that so hard from the beginning to over communicate or be apologetic? I mean, come on people. It's not that hard. If it is, you shouldn't be here. No matter how experienced any one is. Katie offered to schedule the next appointment. I didn't hear if she said it was going to be for free but at that point, I wanted to leave and get the hell out of there. No, I won't be coming back. No, I would never recommend getting grooming services at petco. This is corporate ran so I'm not surprised but people like Sarah, shouldn't be in the grooming industry. The in-store prices are completely opposite of their online prices. For example, I went to purchase melafix & pimafix for my fish tank only to realize that the in-store price was double the online price. I thought there must be an error but I checked with a store associate and she apologized stating online pricing is completely different than the store pricing. They don't match their online pricing either. This was my last trip to the store, I'll continue using petsmart up the street. As far at Petco's go, this one is just fine. There's nothing special about it but nothing terrible about it either. It's a good place to go pick up the majority of the things that Xoie needs. The service isn't bad as long as you don't actually need advice on something. And most of the prices are reasonable. I do always manage to walk out of there with some free treats if I take the puppy in with me though. read more

Ok so the only reason I gave this petco 2 stars is for the grooming service. It is amazing and my dog always seems so happy to go here. He loves loves loves brandy and I do too! Not in a creepy way but she is such a ball of fun and such a sweetheart. My dog doesn't like going to anyone who's grooming him as much as he likes going to brandy. He won't even let my mom pick him up. But when it comes to Brandy (or me) he jumps into her arms! It's so great to see my dog find joy in GROOMING. He always smells soooo good too and he's soft- when he comes back from here, it even makes my mood positive. NOW for the more negative part of this.. The only time I ever come here besides to groom my dog, is to get bedding for my marvelous rat, kit. So that's what I was doing when I stopped by the rats to give little kisses through the glass and such- then I saw them! They all were huddled up, sad looking, and didn't even come up to the glass. Only one did and when she looked into my eyes it was if she was saying "please save me and get me out of here!" So I did. I'm not aloud another pet at home because of the amount of precious darlings already at my house, but I didn't care. She looked so sad. I couldn't believe her living condition. So I asked a sales person if I could get her, they didn't even seem to care about being nice. The guy was OBVIOUSLY uneducated about rats because he reached for her tail (as she was running away) and picked her up by her TAIL and THREW her into a box. Now, this guy is very tall so the box was a few feet off the ground. Then he just says "man these rats are big, they weren't playin around with these large rats this time". Maybe I'm overreacting but it sounds like he doesn't know a thing about rats. Then they don't even ask for any verification or anything? My first pet rat was from petsmart. Don't you have to sign something so if you ever need to take the rat back for any reason, it's easy/you get free hospital work, etc...? Idk but this was a very unpleasant experience and to me they treat all animals except dogs and maybe cats, like they aren't even real animals? Definitely going to petsmart for now on, also only using the grooming door when I need to groom at petco because I'm not leaving that sunshine of a person (brandy) read more

The staff in this store are very nice. And we were able to pick up a great doggy bed, and a grooming set for a resonable price. However I find there selection of plush doggie toys a little lacking. We need more plush cute squeaky toys and the AKC brand are my favorite and they could use more of those too. read more

Called ahead to ask grooming if they had any availability for a nail clipping for my corgi. They said they had plenty of time after 4:15. I brought in a muzzle for my pup, she's very sweet and gentle but I brought it just in case they needed it. Right when I walked in they told me they had a no muzzle policy...that's cool. Would have been nice to know, didn't see it posted anywhere inside and it's not on the website. Then they proceeded to talk about how "corgis are the worst when it comes to this." Super unprofessional and absolutely not true but ok "expert." That alone pissed me off and I should have walked out then. After being in there for 5 min then they decide to ask, "have you been here before?" I said no. I was told I needed her rabies vaccine info from our vet. Makes sense, again, would have been nice to have been told his before making the trip down. Our vet is all the way in NW Portland, I was just trying to stop by while we were out here. Won't ever waste my time again, and I can take my girl to the vet where she isn't assumed to be "the worst" and we are treated with respect. read more

Don't buy fish here. I bought 2 betas and both died the same week. I think their selection is too big and all the fish aren't being properly cared for, which is sad. However they did work with me in refunding my $40 I invested in fish stuff. If you are going to buy a beta try going to pet smart off of walker. Their selection is smaller and several of my friends have bought fish there that have lived for a year or longer. read more

Thanks so much to Brandi in grooming!! I have a dog that gets really stressed out when he gets dropped off, I was concerned that he'd be sitting and scared in a kennel for hours and when I called Brandi, she explained the grooming process to me and made me feel much better about leaving my dog! She explained that he's rarely in the kennel for more than 15 minutes at a time. Also, after knowing that I was concerned, she pushed my dog through as fast as she could and got him done in 2 hours, the day before Xmas Eve! (Which is one of the busiest days in the year). I was very impressed and very pleased at how she treated my dog and my family. Thanks Brandi! read more

I thought this Petco was better then other petcos but I was really disappointed when my bf and I pointed out that the chameleon was obviously disoriented from being in a glass enclosure (which they arnt supposed to be in) and we were hoping they'd help him out and put him back into his tree but the lady that worked there argued with us trying to inform us it was normal behavior for the animal to be writhing on the ground and smashing his face up on the glass. Note his front horn was bent upwards from this behavior. I'm hopeful the people who work at petco educate themselves better at what is and isn't good for the specific animal and can notice these behaviors more frequently to hopefully help the little guy out. read more

The staff is friendly, nothing against them. However their knowledge on guinea pigs is not impressive at all. They take care of the spendy "store" guinea pigs (nice amount of floor space, fresh water, hay and pellets) but the older ones and the ones up for adoption are kept in terrible condition. Small aquarium with no room to run around in and that is unacceptable when you feel you can sell animals in your store (which I am completely against but that is not for this review). Guinea pigs are social animals that need companion from another pig but besides that they need room to walk around (run and popcorn actually but I would be happy to see the piggies being able to have a good space to walk). One adoption pig is in a tiny aquarium, has an igloo in it (which is good for him to hide), a food bowl and water and that is it! He doesn't even have to walk to the bowl of food as it is right there in front of the igloo due to lack of space. It is not only sad, it is very bad for his health (mental AND physical. I hope they do something about the living circumstances of the older guinea pigs. If the excuse is "lack of space" than how about selling less animals and continue only with adoption pigs (the ones dropped off by people, or in cooperation with shelter, humane society etc). Like I said, sweet staff but would love to see the animals that they sell be treated a little more humane, more walk space, fresh water, vitamin C, lots of hay ! etc. read more

I've been going to this same Petco for almost 15 years for the grooming services. Not again! I took my dog in for grooming and told them I wanted the service we normally get. At which point the up selling starts. I say, all I want extra is a conditioning shampoo becomes my dog is itchy. Well, they're running a special SPA treatment which is only $2 more than the standard and includes the shampoo. $19. Great I say. And I had to ask about the prices because the posted prices have all been removed. When I pick up my dog, the total is $50 -- because THEY NEVER MENTIONED THE $31 BASE PRICE!!! I actually could have been okay with this ridiculous price, but when I complained, they couldn't have cared less. They treated me as though it was my fault that I didn't understand the non-posted and used-car-salesmanesque blather about services and prices. The only prices ever mentioned were $17 and $19. The only thing I asked is what is was going to cost me. And, the actually grooming was lousy to boot. read more

GROOMING WARNING: Rachael was AMAZING but she is no longer there. The next time I took my maltese/poodle mix he came home with a burn on his tummy (they said possibly from the bathing harness), his face was shaved (no more beard) and his nails were not done...ended up taking him back and the manager was not apologetic about the burn on his tummy - just said "if you want to take him to the vet and they determine the injury happened here we will pay for the vet visit, otherwise you have to pay for it" WHAT? Tried again this morning - an appointment with Ashley, arrived at 9am and was told she was running late because MAX was late (even I know MAX to the Westside is running late the next 2 weeks due to construction and I don't ride MAX) so they couldn't take my dog until she arrived around 9:20am - what am I supposed to do for 20 minutes? That was the last straw - wish I knew Rachael's last name so I could track her down - she really cared about my little guy! I miss her and will not go back here! read more

Okay, I suppose. I mainly keep fish, so I haven't really paid attention to the other sections of the store. The freshwater fish are okay, nothing special, and the feeder goldfish are in surprisingly good shape. The saltwater stuff is mediocre. Most of the fish are fine, but I've noticed a lot of them have white spots on their body, not sure if it's ich or not. Some of their invert prices are ridiculous. They charge 35.00 for a star polyp frag you can get at seahorse or upscales for five bucks. I only paid for it because I had a gift card. Still, the frag was in pretty good shape, and was rather large when I bought it, but still....Also, their corals have a lot of hitchhikers, mainly slime algae and bristleworms. Bristleworms are good for tanks but I always feel nervous when I move the rocks because of the little nasty suckers. Overall okay, but in need of improvement. The only things I would buy from there over any other store are feather dusters and shrimp, because their cleaner, camel, and peppermint shrimp are cheap and healthy. read more

I have been looking for a harness for my dog for a while now. I have purchased several at Petsmart but nothing seemed to work, as she has a thick body but very small neck. I stopped into Petco to see if they had different options. I purchased one but after coming home and trying it on her, It ended up being too big. We live very close so I brought my girl in to see if I could try them on her. I asked a young man for assistance in finding the right one. He got another associate to help, as he was busy with anither customer. She was extremely helpful and patient with me. She worked with me for at least 15 minutes, trying in different harnesses and we finally found one that worked. I am typically and avid Petsmart shopper, being as the prices are lower, but due to the impeccable customer service I recieved, I will be returning to this store! Thank you Petco. I took my beloved Lucy in for a routine nail trim, as I have been doing for over two years and encountered a 'loud' speaking woman (who claimed later to be the manager of 'her salon') on the phone verifying an appointment with a customer. A stocky woman told me to pay for the nail trim (inside the store) while they trim her nails. Curious as to why they wanted me out of site while doing what has always been a 1-2 minute simple procedure that I usually pay for first and then bring my cat in from the car. Then the plastic cat collar comes out by the stocky, slovenly dressed woman armed to make my 12+ year old sweetie submit. 'It's procedure' I was told. Really? Since when, I asked? After telling the 'loud' speaking woman two times that I am not hard of hearing, I was told to leave and to never come to 'her salon' again. If these people care about animals, why the drama? The pet salon looked dirty, not to mention the stocky woman and her work area that, by appearance, showed no indication that she had cleaned it prior to seeing the next pet customer. STAY AWAY. I do not trust them. If you love your pet, GO elsewhere, where they truly care about your pet, and their owner. read more

I brought her in one evening just before close and a great guy named Dave patiently dremeled her nails to perfection. I have been back several times since I recently took a severely neglected rescue in and Dave cleaned her up and trimmed her frighteningly long nails. I went in to get a couple fish for my 20 gallon tank and asked the lady a few times for help. Not once did someone come ask me if I needed help. I come here all the time and the service is generally pretty good. I browsed around with my boyfriend for about a half hour and fell in love with these blood parrots. they're huge and adorable. I asked the 'fish rep' lady if there were any other fish I could have with them at all (yes, I did read that they are very aggressive fish) and she just asked me "Did you read the information?" with a tone. I decided to look around more and she told me to come back to her when I've made a decision. I went over ten minutes later and asked her for help. She had been writing something down and told me she's too busy to help me and sent someone else.. I ended up buying two Blood Parrots and a pleco for my tank but I felt the customer service was off. I asked what sorts of things they'd recommend to feed them and other things but I felt like they thought I was stupid for asking questions..! I just got an unwelcome vibe from them like It was a nuisance that I was there. Customer service could be better :( read more

Grooming review-I took my dog to get groomed after having multiple horrible experiences at Petsmart in Cedar Hills. The gals here were so professional and friendly. They proved to be true animal lovers with their kind interaction with my dog before the grooming appointment. I forgot the gals name but she called my vet for me to get my dog's vaccine information. At pick up, my dog was not anxiety ridden as he has always been at the other place and his haircut was exactly how I asked. Even though it is further away I will definitely be back again and I plan on bringing my other dog in for her first haircut.
