My dog suffered a leg injury during her grooming appointment. I requested the video footage and the store manager said that she had to find out if it could be sent to me. She never got back to me. Fast forward several weeks later, I tried making a grooming appointment at another Petco location because I lost trust at Brea, and I came to find out that the store manager added notes on my dog's file that she has a heart murmur and she could not be serviced anymore at Petco. This information is false. When I followed up with my regular vet regarding her leg injury, he didn't detect a heart murmur when he examined her. Not sure why the Brea store manager would add false information on my dog's file.. there wasn't additional testing done when Petco Brea took my dog to the hospital after suffering a leg injury while in their care to confirm if she really had a heart murmur. My regular vet did say that my dog was injured during her grooming appointment because her knee cap was extremely swollen and she was in a lot of pain although she wasn't showing it. I have a very brave girl. Now the other Petco location (La Habra) is requesting a vet note clearing her from a heart murmur so that she can be serviced. Again, I wasn't the one who added this information on her file. I should not have to go out of my way for a mistake Petco Brea made. My dog is still on pain and anti inflammatory meds for her leg injury at Petco Brea, I'm extremely disappointed with this location and their store manager. Make it right Petco Brea!! Remove false medical notes from my dog's file. UPDATE: This incident happened last March 2026. As of today (5/7/26), my concerns have not been addressed . The store manager, Betty, was extremely unprofessional and raised her voice over the phone. She continued on a rant distorting information about what she thought she heard during the hospital visit. I refused to listen to her any longer and requested for her boss to call me back because I was not going to tolerate her tone! She said she'll relay the message and that her boss will call me back "when she's not busy." I'm appalled that Petco would hired incompetent people as admin. I have not received a call from her boss. I filed a complaint with corporate 2 weeks ago and they still have not responded. I'm extremely disappointed with Petco!! read more

Absolutely terrible grooming experience. I brought in my two Australian Shepherds and specifically asked for a trim and to have them deshedded. What I got back was honestly ridiculous. They completely botched the cuts--both dogs came back looking uneven, choppy, and terrible. It's obvious the grooming was rushed, and now I'm stuck looking at uneven hair that I'll have to wait to grow back before it can be fixed properly. One of my dogs was even returned to me wet, and the grooming still wasn't properly finished. On top of that, I was charged extra for "matting" when my dogs did not have mats. Then I was still expected to pay the full price for an incomplete job because of their "time constraints." That's not my problem. If you can't finish the service I paid for, you shouldn't charge me full price for work that wasn't completed. The grooming was awful, the cuts were uneven and terribly done, the service was incomplete, and the customer service was just as disappointing. It felt like they did the bare minimum and still found ways to add extra charges. Stay away if you're looking for a professional, reliable place to groom your dogs. For some reason there are a lot of people products at this store lol, including clothes that say "dog mom". We came today and had teddy pick out a treat since it was his birthday today. They had what we were looking for. Our new dog gravitated towards some bones and chew toys and we were glad for the options. Some of the aisles had pee on the floor though, and that should be mopped up immediately so owners and dogs don't step in it. The cashier was also not super friendly or understandable when messing up our rewards phone number and asking to do 2 separate purchases. Wish we would be more incentivized to come back here with our dog, but wasn't a perfect time. read more

Petco is not what it used to be to when I was growing up. There's hardly any employees anymore. Maybe 2 maximum (cashiers). The prices and brands are still great value don't get me wrong but the store itself just seems dead. No one smiles or welcomes you in, it just seems miserable. Even the lack of pets sucks. I have two Newfoundland dogs, I brought one in and they did an ok job for a decent price. so I decided to bring in my other newfie, she had some mats on her chest so they said they needed to charge a little more $$ to cover the added time need to remove the mats, so they charged me $120 and all they did was shave my dogs chest and left the fur around it the original length. Also upon returning home I noticed that my dog had a limp that she did not have before going there, it has been three weeks and she is still limping. Feeling so accomplished thanks to the helpful staff at Petco (I'm so bummed I didn't get her name to give full credit). I've been a dog owner for over 40 years and never have needed to trim their nails because they have always naturally worn down. Now I have a girl with bad hips and she doesn't get around, and her nails got long. I was so nervous, but she recommended a trimmer, and talked me through it, gave me tips and suggestions and now her nails are in much better shape. to start this review this was a dreadful experience and would not recommend coming to this petco. When I first walked in and I went to the aquatic area where the fish are, I saw one dried up dead goldfish and I said something to one of the employees and they grabbed it really quickly and made sure no one saw it, but I sure did and it was really nasty and I did not really want to buy fish anymore because I saw how bad they took care of their fish there then I started talking to a lady who is helping me with fish and she started arguing with me about how big or small the fish get and how if my tank is the right size to keep this fish. horrible customer service do not recommend coming to this Petco read more

Took my Multipoo for grooming. They said he was severely matted and completely shaved him down. I normally take him to another groomer and they can address any areas with matting and do a great job with hair cut. They didn't even try at PetCo. They just completely shaved him down. Now he's not acting like himself and is freezing in the morning and evenings. He only weighs 8 lbs and has been extremely needy since his haircut. I hope they didn't hurt him. I would never return to PetCo for grooming. Beyond frustrating. read more

Adryn (I hope I spelled her name right) was so helpful with my pending pickup order, I ordered 4 items around 9:30 am and it was supposed to be ready by 1 pm. So then I made a trip out of it, took me mum to lunch and stopped by Petco Brea by 1:30 pm. I was baffled to find that the pickup email never came through, and my Petco account on the website says it's pending for delivery. Very confusing. So one clerk called the manager for help, they searched for my order, and it's not in their system. So the manager (Adryn) called the Petco hq to push my order through so they can give me the items. While on hold, she picked the items out for me, and they're ready as the hq woman told her that my order will take time to get through. Smart and savvy Adryn then decided to ring my items up in the store, gave me the same discount that I got online, and then she'll cancel the pending online order once it's thru to their system. Unprofessional and Disrespectful. Pass this to your leadership and management! Came here to just look at kittens at the adoption center. Volunteer of the center was no where to be found and no one was able to contact them (employees included). Another family was in there with a kitten outside of its cage. After a while of waiting outside the doors I asked an employee for help and that's when they said there should be a volunteer in there but there wasn't and that they would contact them. So we waited, walked into the center with the other family. Another employee, who seems to be a manager comes in and says "Where is it?" While walking in and out of the center. Another employee comes to the door and says the same thing to the first employee. First employee says "I asked but no one said anything" (Lol what?) We didn't realize he was talking about us, customers who did not know what was going on and was waiting for the other employee who said would contact the rescue in charge. Later come to realize he WAS talking to us and he was looking for the kitten that was out of the cage that the other family was playing with. And then he tells the family that it's not supposed to be out and needs them to "text" the rescue when the family already did but received no response. Has the audacity to tell them that the rescue volunteer wouldn't be in until 6PM OR 7PM when the rescue actually promoted an adoption event that would end at 5pm. That just means they just made that time up. Anyways. Garbage customer service. Why be weird, coulda just said "Hi Where is the kitten? They shouldnt be out of the cage." instead of "Where is it?" Where is what, my guy! And then talk about us like we were dumb in front of us. read more

I almost stopped taking my 68 lb. Husky, Jasper, to this grooming salon about a year ago because his groom was hit and miss (mostly miss) and they didn't do the things I specifically asked for (teeth cleaning, sanitary, and blueberry facial) but still charged me. I also got major attitude, hang ups, and simply no callbacks when Jasper was done from 2 groomers in particular there (their names started with M but I really don't remember the names). The real sticking point was when one of these groomers said my dog was 'aggressive' when I was waiting to be helped (she hadn't even touched him to evaluate him yet) which simply isn't true at all and it really insulted me, he's a big, tall boy but so docile and will pretty much let you do anything to him. After all this I stopped bringing in my dog in. However, Petco Grooming's price points are really hard to beat. I brought Jasper back a few months later with a lot of reservations. I called to make an appointment and Bridget just so happened to pick up. I shared with Bridget the way the other groomers had treated me and my dog in the past and how the quality of the groom was inconsistent from month to month. It just so happened she did my dog the few times he actually had a great groom and she said she enjoyed doing Jasper because he was easy-going about most of the groom (aggressive, my a$$). I resolved that as long as Bridget was there to groom (or at least supervise the groom) on Jasper I'd be happy. At some point those 2 horrible groomers I mentioned left the location, so that just makes it all the better. Side note: Jasper got his teeth around a skunk early one morning and I had to do an emergency bath on him myself. Yes he was a very good boy but he's big and shakes A LOT. After all the soap, vinegar, and baking soda facials from that bath and the 45 minute long blow dry and brush session I realized that I don't tip Bridget nearly enough to do what she does. Bridget notices all the little things going on with Jasper from month to month, sometimes he gets scabby elbows from being at doggy daycare, small patches of hair missing from old scabs caused by allergies (he likes laying in the grass), his occasional extra dirty coat, or even the faint smell of skunk spray (see sidenote) from a month old encounter. What makes her special is she notices all of it and tailors his groom each time to help with those scabby elbows, his shedding, his hay fever, or extra face washes to get the skunk smell gone. I left Maltipoo to get groomed and the lady that checked me in at Petco (Adrienne) was rude off the bat! As soon as I said I have an appointment she said YOU'RE LATE I said well I went to Petsmart in error. She assessed my Maltipoo and said she is matted I will need to shave her. She said you should bring her every 4-6 weeks I said I'm busy and getting an appt is tough she said do you work 7days a week? All rude!! I should've just left! But my dogs bday is 4/23 so I wanted her to look pretty. After 2hrs they called me to tell me they injured my pup and had to take her to the VET!! They didn't even call me. They left a message saying this is the 2nd time we call (not true!) we brought your dog back we cut her. We couldn't finish the grooming she said!! Uh!! Petco Grooming: Shoutout to Erik for listening to my concerns and the amazing job he did with my two Goldendoodles! I had previously used a mobile dog groomer & the last time I used her she didn't do a great job with my dogs. I showed Erik the areas I was most concerned about (matting under ears, uneven hair on the top of their heads) and I let him know that I wanted it pretty short because of summer approaching. He did an amazing job & my dogs look great! I feel so much better knowing that they were taking care of in a good amount of time. I was worried because the last person really did a horrible, uneven job on my poor puppies. Both of my 50 pound dogs are timid and trained so I knew they would be okay with a new groomer & I am satisfied with my experience here at the Brea Petco. I've been coming here for years for my various pets, but I've never had issues before I started shopping here for my meal worms and crickets. The advertised amounts on the meal worm packages never add up to the actual contents after purchased. In addition, the crickets are a complete nightmare. Often they're dead still on display, and whoever counts their crickets can't count correctly because you alway pay more than you get. Every time I ask which day they get their deliveries for the week I get a different answer. This is my first Yelp review and I hate being difficult, but honestly more people need to be aware if they have reptiles. Groomers here are WONDERFUL! Summer and Christina gave my dog the VIP treatment on short notice. I called them hoping they had an opening today because the other Petco in La Habra cancelled my appointment, and they were able to get my dog if I could get there within the half hour. They gave my dog a VIP appointment. They we're extremely nice and understanding, and they did an amazing job grooming my dog. I HIGHLY recommend these groomers. My favorite petco just because of the staff. I love fish and I go all the time either for supplies or just to browse. The staff is always super kind and helpful. There are 3 staff members that always catch my attention. 1. Cole, very friendly and quiet gentleman that always gives friendly small talk and helps me take advantage of any savings! Unfortunately I do not know the names of the other two but 2. is a younger gentleman with glasses who is friendly and tries to help me out or brings someone else if he can't. 3. A blonde/brown haired woman who usually has a ponytail that always helps me out in the fish section. These 3 always make my day whenever I come to this petco and I greatly appreciate it. Signed up online at a reasonable price point 2-3 weeks prior to scheduled date, only to receive a phone call the day before the class asking me to reschedule from the Wednesday to a Sunday. I agreed, then received a callback on Friday same week informing me that Sunday's are a "go", but that we need to push out roughly 2 weeks from the originally scheduled date. Grooming - Luz and Summer are both super amazing and sweet! You can tell when someone wholeheartedly loves their job and the animals they work on. They are both very patient, informative, and my pup always comes back to me smelling amazing and clean! Training - Adriane is one of the most patient trainers I've worked with! She gives clear instructions on what we've worked on during that session for me to work on with my girl when we get home. She is also a good combination of strict and sweet - the best! By far the worst location to do curb side pick up. I waited in my car nearly 20 minutes only to watch 3 guests go in and come out with their purchase. My app even stated that my item was "picked up" and I was still sitting in my car with nothing. I finally called and when a female employee answered it didn't sound like she knew I was out there waiting the whole time! I walked in and guess what?? I saw her looking for my items and was doing it like she had no care in the world. I was so angry and so close to looking through those shelves, finding my name and leaving. The manager at the store is a failure and should hire employees that at least know how to read. I NEVER want to come back to this location. I did call back and told the manager this and all she gave me was excuses. Her "apology" did NOT make me feel better and hung up. UPDATE: 2 out of my 3 items is incorrect. I finally got a guinea pig that I liked and connected with. Unfortunately, the next day I noticed that it was not being herself so I took her back to Petco. Mayra was informative and compassionate. She told me that they will have the guinea pig checked by the vet and will contact me by 5PM the next day. I was notified the next day around 5PM and was told that she has an acute uri. Petco had to keep her until she is done with her antibiotics then rechecked by the vet before I can take her home again.( I could've brought her back sooner but they provided me an option to have her checked again by the vet) I got her back in a week and she was full of life again. Very helpful staff. We just adopted a dog and needed to pick up supplies. Had to visit twice the past week. The first time was just me and another patron in the store. Angie assisted and answered my laundry list of questions. Very friendly and knowledgable. Angie is also the dog trainer there. She informed me that they have high Covid standards. The training areas are cleaned throughly after each session. The facility in general is quite clean. The store was more busy during my second visit. There was 4 of us in line to enter. The line moved quickly as people exited. I had some price questions regarding items with missing tags. They helped me look up prices and provided great service again. read more

This Petco is located in the same plaza as Trader Joe's & Marshalls. My husband and I stopped by this location with our little girl dog this afternoon, looking for a travel padded crate. Although we already have one that we use when we fly, we wanted to see if there was a travel padded crate with wheels (so that it is easier to transport her instead of having to carry her). Unfortunately this location did not have what we were looking for and so we left empty handed. But I do want to mention that the employee we interacted with (she showed us where we would be able to find travel appropriate padded crates) was friendly. I just want to mention that this Petco has a grooming department (even with it's own separate entrance, but you can also enter through the main store). This Petco also has the Vetco Clinic available here, every other Saturday, 1-3 pm (next visit is Nov 18). read more
