I came to Petco recently in search of some feline greenies of the dental variety. While I was able to find them there was a limited selection on the shelf and I ended up purchasing the size and type that was left. I was able to make my purchase fairly quickly. 1 Star - Absolutely unacceptable treatment from groomer and manager I originally booked with a groomer named Tristian and had the best grooming experience I've ever had. He was professional, attentive, and handled my dog with care. Naturally, I rebooked--only to find out he was no longer available, and my appointment was reassigned to someone named Angela. From the start, this appointment was a nightmare. I gave clear instructions: * Don't dry my dog - he's fearful of loud noises * Don't trim his nails - we do that at the vet * I booked the first morning slot to minimize his stress and pick him up quickly I returned nearly 3 hours later to find my dog still locked in a kennel soaking wet, while Angela was grooming another dog. She ignored me at the counter. When I knocked on the glass, she came out visibly annoyed, told me my dog was "in the dryer," and walked away. Minutes later, I received a generic "your pet is ready" text, and the store manager appeared. Angela walked right past me without a word. When I voiced my concerns, the manager claimed Angela "felt threatened" by me and defended her behavior. No apology. No accountability. To top it off, my dog was handed to me still wet, confirming she had blatantly lied about drying him. I requested and received a refund, then filed a complaint with corporate. Shortly after, I discovered my grooming account was disabled, which feels retaliatory. This was by far the worst grooming experience I've ever had, made worse by the store manager enabling it. Neglecting basic instructions, being dismissive, and retaliating against valid complaints is completely unacceptable. 4 stars for grooming, but 2 stars for the rest of the store. My local groomer retired about a year ago, so I had to find someone new. I've been to Petco twice now--once back in February 2023 and again today--and both times, Angela was my dog's groomer. She's amazing! Super sweet, bright, and just really great with my dog. Today, she was working solo and had a couple of pets ahead of mine, but even then, she took her time and didn't rush anything. I dropped my dog off at 12:30 and picked him up around 4, and he looked so clean and fresh! Angela even took the time to tell me how he did during the wash and grooming, and mentioned some things to keep an eye on, like his ears looking a bit red and his skin tags. I really appreciate how thorough she is. Now, the store itself? Not so great. The floors are sticky, and good luck finding staff on the floor if you need help. The checkout clerks aren't that friendly either, which is a bit of a letdown. All in all, I'd definitely recommend Angela if you're looking for a solid groomer, but the store could definitely use some work. read more

Horrible customer service! They deserve zero stars! Good at sending multiple texts to remind you of your grooming appointment but no system in place to let you know when the groomer calls out. So I arrive before 8am for my dog's 8am appointment and there is movement Inside the store but the door is locked. A little after 8 a woman steps put to inform customers that the groomer is running late. Then at about 8:15 she comes out again to report the groomer called out and offered to reschedule the appointment and said I would get a 10% discount. I reschedule for today at 8:45 am. I arrive before 8:45am. There are employees inside the Petxo who can see me through the glass with my dog but no one acknowledges me. I wait until 9am when the store opens. I go straight to the grooming area and noone is there. I go to the front and am told that I need to wait by the grooming section to be helped. I ho back to grooming. I'm told I don't have an appointment. I explain what happened yesterday. I'm told again there is no availability for today and offered an appointment for Sunday at 8:45am. R U kidding me?!?!?!?!? Never again before 9am! So she gives me 9am for Sunday and tells me I'll get a discount for my inconvenience. The first time I went to the Petco at Gateway mall the service was professional,courteous and the employee was able to assist my grandson in establishing a freshwater tank. The second time same results. The third time I went the employees had no clue in customer service. My grandson asked for specific fish and after waiting thirty minutes or more when I asked why are we waiting so long for the fish, the employee informs me that people underage are not served at Petco. I asked could you have asked him to obtain an adult. Meanwhile I am a senior citizen standing with aching joints. Tonight April 23 at the same Petco the need for customer service training was made obvious. My grandson asked for fish an employee whom I asked did he works here point at his ID which was on is midriff. The employee explained an employee with a key will get the fish. Now there were employees going back and forth in the area of the fish tank no one appeared to know we were waiting for fish.After waiting 50 minutes the original employee comes and says the employee who will get the fish will come soon. I ask if I should wait on the line in order to get se5vice for the fish. The employee laughs. Now the employee who can obtain the fish tells my grandson not to sit on the stepladder but never asks what is he waiting for. Another employee passes me I ask "Can you obtain fish for him?" That employee points to the employee who told my grandson not to sit on the stepladder. My grandson manages to speak to the employee who can obtain the fish she laughs and states "Didn't you see me go to get crickets." I am dismayed, disappointed and saddened. I know the employees may be overwhelmed with dealing with the public and lack communication skills but being inconsiderate is sad. My first two visits we received service that was courteous,professional and the staff was able to explain what my grandson needed. I hope that my next visit the service improves. The services at Petco have definitely improved. Now the Vetco services are offered every Saturday. The last few times that I have been there I have noticed that the staff is way more friendly and helpful. While shopping or waiting to see the Vet the staff has offered water for the pets in line as well as snacks. I definitely appreciate this because my dog knows when he comes to see the Vet for shots and he doesn't like it one bit. He gets nervous and starts hiding under anything he can find in the store lol. But the attention my pet receives from the staff helps out a lot. This visit he left with cute reindeer ears lol. read more

I get all my dog and cat treats from here, we buy my dogs food from Chewy. Petco is great because they price match, and have stuff usually stocked. However!, I own a 10 year old snake that needs to eat large size rats so I always used to pick up a frozen one from this location. I used to work here so I know that shipments come in certain days of the week so I've come back 3 times, maybe 2 weeks apart each time and the variety of frozen foods for reptiles is just never there. I ask the staff and they're always unsure and tell me to call 'tomorrow'. I've just called and had a groomer pick up my call and asked to be transferred to literally anyone else on the floor. I waited on hold for 13 minutes and then hung up. I understand it's a pandemic and some items are harder to get maybe but this has been keeping me from coming back. I used to shop from this Petco 6 years ago when I had another cat, now that I brought my cat Muffin from Turkey and after a 10+ hours flight, that store was our very first stop from JFK to home :) We bought a litter box, the sand, couple cans of food etc. Petco might be expensive compared to online sales channels but sometimes all you need is to get something right at that moment so this store serves perfect for us for our first week. Today I went there again to buy Hill's brand food to try, Hills is expensive in Europe but I paid $16 for a 3.5lb size package so even if Muffin won't like it, I will not feel bad :) Hope she does though. My brother takes his Golden puppy to their Vetco center within this store and he is very satisfied with the service so I am considering them for our cat. Their rewards card is good for deals as well. The only good thing about this Petco is its convenience. I can get everything they carry and more from Chewy.com. Their grooming service is....well if you want your dog gone for 5 hours, then go here. I've been bringing my dog here for 2 years and their service and timing has gotten progressively worse, while raising their prices to an obscene level. The last time I brought my dog there, she got sick. Could have been a coincidence, but all I know is she was fine before her appointment, then she came home and the next day was lethargic and not eating. Thankfully she was fine, and I decided to give Petco one more shot. Her appointment was for 2 pm. I got there 5 minutes early, and after the song and dance of trying to find her record, I left at 2:12, being told she'd be ready around 4. At 5:30, when I hadn't heard from them, I drove over and she still wasn't done. They said another 40-45 minutes, which turned into over an hour. When all was said and done, I spent $138 and had my dog basically locked in a cage for 5+ hours (mind you, it's not like she got walked while there). She looks fine but to have her locked away and being worried about her wellbeing, that's a hefty bill. I won't be taking her there again. read more

Worst store ever!!!! Called to ask if they have gerbils before driving down there. Was told they have males and females from new born to few months old. Excited, drove down to the store only to find out they don't have any. Which is okay if the person on the phone has simply made a mistake. Very disappointed at this Petco. I can't say for other pets but I was in their aquarium/fish section and I was really disgusted with the condition of the fish there. They had a tank full of Oscar cichlids that were in such terrible condition, that I nearly cried and wanted to puke. All the Oscar fish were missing all their fins (yes I mean all their fins). They were all lumped up together on top of each other on one side of the tank swimming with little to no fins. There were dead carcasses of other Oscar fish in the back of the tank that wasn't cleaned up; they were torn to pieces and had their eyeballs gouged out. All the fish had injuries and busted scales. Words can't even describe how disgusting it was. I mentioned to the worker that the Oscars looked sick and he told me it's likely the lobster in the same tank. I don't know why the baby Oscars were sharing a tank with a large lobster! With that being said, I bought one of the better looking Oscars because it was what I was looking for and I was hoping to save it from the condition it was in. It was a lot of work because this Oscar kept getting sick. It kept getting one problem after another. It took almost 3 months for the Oscar to finally heal up completely and finally swimming around my tank. But I think it remained mentally traumatized as he's not very aggressive and never fights back when he's being picked on by other fish. Very sad! I highly suggest anyone who is an aquarium enthusiast to avoid fish from Petco and other big chains. They don't care about their fish section and generally don't keep the water or fish in good conditions. You could end up getting a really sick fish! I almost thought this Oscar I bought couldn't be saved and I was really close to putting him down. Good thing he's doing well now! Besides that, the location is pretty large, convenient, clean and stocked. I have no complaints about that, and everything else in the store is tidy. The animals are in a very bad condition. All the fish I bought from Petco soon died. The aquariums are dirty and there are dead fish in them ... I wanted to take a parakeet, but they clipped the wings of the poor birds (they will grow back, but only after half a year), which is very bad for parrot babies. Many babies will not fly again... The cage for the birds is very cramped, and they have nowhere to stretch themselves - the parrots just sit on the branches. I do not recommend Petco if you are interested in buying animals. read more

They have large fish tanks and fish stands. The store seems to be short staffed because I don't notice many employees around and there is only one cashier. I usually end up going here because of its selection. Literally came here for 1 thing. Blue Buffalo canned dog food for my dog. In-store it was $30something. Online, it's $23.99. They price matched it ! Today was so busy! I think I only saw 3 workers on the floor. The vet was here so everyone and their animal was there. It looked like a zoo. I think I already know better where is everything there... We asked for a dog litter and girl told us that they doesn't have it, when it was literally on the next shelf. 100% I would not trust their advice and check everything myself, but it is what it is and so far we don't really have another big pet store in our area. James Took the time out to learn about little issues regarding my dogs allergies and picked out different treats that doesn't have chicken in it. I schlep from Park Slope to Sheepshead Bay to buy dogfood. I am a slave to my pet. Iams lamb and rice formula: $39.99 for a 40 pound bag (sometimes discounted); buy ten get one free. Seems like a good deal...and one of the only places to get large bags of chow. However. it is 16 miles roundtrip...but I have a fuel efficient car and enjoy NPR, so it's worth the added time and money. Sadie likes the wind in her face. The monthly errand makes us feel like we live in the suburbs. Don't buy anything else here. The prices aren't competitive, and you should support your neighborhood pet store. read more

This is so unfortunate because I liked the way my dog was groomed previous times but the way I was treated is absolutely unacceptable especially being a chain store with a big name. Very disrespectful groomer Daria who is apparently a manager in that dep. She called me 1 hour after grooming my dog stating that she will not honor the price $65 that came up when I booked the appointment online. When I said that this is not fair, she said that I can come and pick up the dog right now or she will just shave him bold for this price. She said it will cost me $85 which I agreed to pay but replied that I won't come back anymore. When I came back to pay she didnt even bother hand me the invoice and pointed at it for me to pick it up while hugging her bf.
