DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET IF THERE IS MATTING! I was informed on a Friday that the animal could not be taken because the rabies vaccine wasn't completed; fine, I scheduled with Vetco on a Sunday, got the dog's last rabies shot and returned just a few days later Tuesday to get the grooming complete. I was asked by the staff member to come early because they learned that the dog had some matting and that it would take longer. I obliged, left work 3 hours early, and showed up with the dog. The groomer tells me that the matting is too bad and that they do not have the proper tools to take care of the dog. As if their staff didn't just see the same dog 4 days prior to. I was referred to a Pet ER in the area, to which when contacting stated, "they don't know why Petco staff recommended me to them, they are a medical facility!" Again, do not take your pet to Petco if there is matting. This is a rescue pup, barely 2 years old (a Maltese) only 8 lbs., that has vaccines up to date. If you're going to be called a Groomers, you should have every single tool available to GROOM an animal. Not only a waste of my time, but the dog that was so "uncomfortable" now has to suffer longer, because of the incompetence of this staff! This is the EXACT reason I do not go to chain pet stores. I came about 8 minutes before closing to grab ONE thing, ONEEEEEE THING because my pet needed something last minute. The doors were locked, I stood there and knocked as the lady with the blonde hair and ponytail with glasses was staring at me at the checkout counter. Then another customer in the store walked up to get checked out, she kept looking at me mind you minutes have passed. She proceeded to check him out and when he had to leave she obviously came to the door right?? She proceeded to tell me they're closed. I explained to her I was there before closing time and needed to grab one thing. She completely disregarded me and told me she cannot help me and she the shut the door in my face. I stood outside the door for a minute or 2 to try to explain to my husband what happened and when I looked up at the employee her and another woman with black hair, bangs and glasses were looking at me and laughing standing at the checkout counter. I don't do much shopping in pet stores, but one day ran into this Petco to get wet food for my cat. I was AMAZED by the selection of flavors in the singles AND in the packs! Today I purchased a 24 pack of the turkey, chicken, and giblets and I can't wait for my cat to try them! So I'll be back for wet food variety, for sure. read more

I'm so very NOT happy with the end result of my pooch's grooming and OMG neither is he! The groomer left him with ZERO personal features despite me telling her he's a rescue from a grandmother. No empathy's was given. Petco/she was not the 1st choice but had the earliest date. I wish I'd went elsewhere. I'm perturbed I was requested to checkout prior to seeing my Oatie because I would've SKIPPED the tip!!! Body wise, ok take him down to a 7 but she went 10! Poor thing is now also scooting his butt across the rug. And licking where ever he can reach. NEVER has he done that. His tail was bleeding - smh. Happy tail my @$$!!! His nails are horrible! Going this low, her errors will need fixing. She literally shaved down his mustache and all facial features!!! It's monstrous and uncaring. Like why?!?!! I'm moving on and will avoid groomers named Sarah, no matter the location or doggy salon. There was ZERO cares given as she could've done a superb job on his face but no - Sarah sucks. They got a new breeder for the hamsters recently and they are CRAZY TAME AND HEALTHY! But hamsters are not as robust as they were a decade ago apparently and if they get really really stressed out they will get wet tail which will cause life loss from dehydration in 24-48+ hours. So leave them be for first week you have them in a more quiet room and they like it dark just let them hear your voice and give them treats and don't pick them up. I don't cater to the adopt don't shop nor do I agree with providing large volume of hamsters from breeders that are not being careful with genetics and future hamsters. Thier life span is a whole year less then a decade ago! I'm shocked when I hear a 3 year old hamster exists snd I used to have those every time when I was a kid. Crazy. Anywho they are nice there as heck and they will take it and get it better if it's sick but under certain conditions. Oh and there is only one Syrian hamster, Teddy bears and fancy whatever's are just fancy names like prezy teddys ;). read more

I took my dog to get groomed on 1/24/25 . I dropped her off at 1230 I discussed grooming with the groomer AMY told her not too much hair off teddy bear face and leave a poodle puff at the top ! @4 pm I received a notification on my petco app that my dog was ready l which I found strange cause they normally call. I got there to pick her up made a payment which I feel like they up charged. It's normally $63 but today it was $100. They charged me twice for matting saying she was just so matted which I know is not true because before I left we went over her body and only issue was a small Matt at her ears from bows and under her tail . I go back in the room to pick her up and when they walk her out she's yelping and had BLOOD all under her ! So I'm looking like why is she bleeding and everyone in the salon puts their Head down ! Amy then pretends she didn't know and oh good let me get her cleaned up and takes her back in the back ! I request a manger he comes out refunds me and tells me that I can take to be seen by a Vet and they will cover the cost . I call my vet but no emergency appointments for today or tomorrow. We go back in the grooming salon and AMY is bringing her back out ! AT this point I'm upset but we are discussing vet options the clean up and I'm talking to the manager and AMY Keeps trying to talk to me and explain. I'm ignoring her because when I paid ,She was right at the register ,I asked her how was the grooming session she never mentioned the cut, No one called me to say oh there was an accident here today you should come pick her up. She just sent a notification, now you wanna keep talking to test my temperature! She proceeds to say it's not that bad now that they cleaned her up and it's cause she's moving so much that it's so much blood . I don't respond to her. I continue to ask the Manger for vet options and how does payment work if I leave here do they come with me , can I have something in writing that they agree to pay the pet ER ? She interjects again and say she must take her today ! I still ignore her! I call the ER because they say they can't give me any documentation but they can just pay them over the phone and I was uncomfortable with that.We check my dog in over the phone and AMY comes back out in the middle of the MANAGER assisting me to call him to the back ! At this point I'm livid and I explain to her look Miss we are trying to get to the bottom of this situation. Your attitude has been off since I walked in ! You haven't been apologetic at all and you keep interrupting as if whatever you need is bigger than me the CUSTOMER at this point she proceeds to make the manager come to the back. Another associate had to finish the conversation we were having on the phone with the pet ER ! I waited for the Manager to return to explain to him that I didn't appreciate the way I was being treated , the customer is always first what ever issue they may have been having could wait until I was out the door and I felt that AMY was being rude because she wasn't getting the attention , she Interjects again starts fussing with me and I fused back and she proceeded to call the POLICE !!! Now I'm really pissed because you have been ANTAGONIZING me since I came in here. I no longer wanted to deal with you and now that I'm responding you call the police in DISTRESS as if I'm the AGGRESSOR ! The police showed up I waited because I didn't want her story to change! I got a case number , I try to leave and AMY tells me I can't take the grooming Paper that they normally give at the end of the session. The officer looks confused and ask why she can't she just print another one ! This lady is RUDE , UNAPOLOGETIC she did a TERRIBLE cut , it is uneven and skinned my poodle all the way down , which doesn't explain the upcharges ! She didn't clear out my dog's hair out the EARS ! Generally I do my pet related shopping at another pet store (rhymes with "LetsFart") because it's twice as close. But recently they've (the one near me at least) quit carrying the larger bags of dog food for senior dogs that I buy. The seem to carry the larger bags of all the other varieties this brand makes still. For a few months I figured they were just out when I went . . . . and I would end up going to Petco. Sure, the other place still had small bags . . . . for which you end up paying about twice as much per unit . . . . no thank you! Besides the dog food, Petco had a great selection of toys, including some awesome Star Wars related one's. And even though I haven't had saltwater fish for about 20 years, going here makes me think, "Maybe it's time again.". At the very least . . . . come check out the cute lizards. read more

Our dog was groomed for the first time at this Petco on Sunday, (6181 Old Dobbin Ln, Columbia, MD) September 1, 2024. Ever since we brought her home, she is afraid of our hands. She is hiding and is avoiding being pet and held. She is scared of quick movements. Every time we try to pet her she startles and hides. Her belly and privates were shaved to her skin and two of her nails on one paw were not cut and stick out. Her bottom is red from being shaved to her skin. She is a cuddle bug but since returning from her grooming she isn't. I am angry and sad. I spoke to her vet who knows our dog well today and her vet wants to see her in the morning. Our dog has NEVER, ever been afraid of our hands. Not ever! Our dog has never been afraid of being touched! Avoid this Petco for grooming at all costs! We are hoping that our dog heals from this. We get our kitty's vaccines done at Vetco since they are far cheaper than having them done at her vet's office. After each vaccine, we just have Vetco transfer the records over to her vet's office and it's easy peasy, quick, and saves a ton of money! I love that Petco has a lot of zero waste initiatives such as the cat litter refill stations and pet treat stations where you can bring your own container. They have good prices, and lots of sales, not to mention that you can combine it with their loyalty program. The customers seem friendly and are willing to help if you ask for it. Went to the Dobbin location today about 1:40 pm. Clerk at the register closest to the door (the only register open) informed me I had rebates I could add thru the app (app did not work). Clerk asked me to move aside to the adjacent closed register so he could continue ringing up customers while I tried (in vain) to reset my password. After 10 minutes of futility I told him I would worry about the rebates next time, and actually asked me to get "back in line" behind other customers......he was not going to just ring me up next for some reason. I told him to forget it and I left. I went straight to PetSmart over by Hobby Lobby instead (The case of Science Diet wet dog food I bought was cheaper at PetSmart as well). Before I left Petco I noticed other associates just kind of milling around that could have stepped in to assist with ringing customers up. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!Don't shop here is you love your pet! We bought bones from the treat bar, brought them home and put them in an airtight container to keep them fresh. When I went to get them a treat a few days later I realized there were bugs in the bones. So disgusting. Update: Petco replies to my review... I contacted corporate and I'm still waiting for a reply a week later; they were supposed to follow up within 24 - 48 hours. So far I've been told by the manager of Petco that if he received a steak from a restaurant with bugs IN IT he would give the restaurant another chance to fix the problem. When I spoke to corporate I had a representative tell me to just continue to use my container even though it has worms and bugs in it. Oh, then he told us, the bugs could come in use for a reptile that I don't have. There seems to be a bigger problem with PetCo than them just serving bugs and worms to our fur babies. Disgusting. NEVER EVER COME HERE for Grooming with the Groomer named Amber F.!!!! ***The other Amber is fantastic!!! Ella has gotten Her nails trim with her without any problems I never had a problem with this store/groomer until now. My 11lbs cockapoo pup had a bad experience with the groomer named Amber F. I had a horrible experience just watching it with my own eyes. We only came for a nail trim. Amber F. Was to rough with her. WAYYYY TO ROUGH! She's a small dog and is very sweet around other people. Every time we go to the groomers the groomer complements her that she was soo sweet. What really triggered me about this Groomer was that: (1) I asked her nicely if she can cut her nails as short as possible... (some groomers wont cut them as short unless you ask) she sarcastically said yes.. like woman...this is my damn dog accept what I say without being rude... then when I walk away... my bf saw her nod her head left to right like if i said something wrong. (2) She told us to move away while she gets her nails trimmed. My pup back was facing us so she couldn't even see us. Why can't I see my pup get her nails trim? Btw she's been at this groomer before and had no problems. Why do I need to walk away? We walked away but, I had a good view of her from a distance. I had this funny vibe that i needed to keep an eye on my pup. (3) She was soooo rough with her that my pup was trying to get away from her. My pup looked like she was getting tortured. I never saw my pup act this way in my life. Even my bf is a witness and was about to take her away because he didn't like how she was handling her but right then she just finished. It was to late... She was forcefully grabbing her legs and paws in position that were very abnormal for a pup to hold for awhile to get nails trim. Then she tells her no... YOU try holding in a position that you never been in before. (4) My pup was scared out of her mind when I got her back. She was clawing to climb up on me. I felt how fearful she was. She never has done that before. How can can you groom dogs and treat them so badly when the owner is still watching?! I was so upset that I even told the cashier. She apologized and tried to cheer me and my pup up. Amber F. We won't be seeing you again and I pray that you don't do this to all the dogs you groom! Did not give her a tip... If I could give a minus 5-star rating, I would. I brought my Yorkshire terrier to the salon for grooming. The grooming included a bath and haircut. When I arrived to pick him up, he looked like a chihuahua, and I expressed this to the groomer. I'm furious. When dropping him off, I specifically told the young woman to only take enough off to give him a shapelier cut. Only take a little since I was bringing him back on December 19th. I even went as far as providing a picture of what I expected. My dog looks NOTHING like a Yorkshire terrier!!!!! I'm not sure why she cut his hair so low! Grooming does not equate to simply cutting the dog's hair as low as possible. I'm really floored. My dog is a part of this family and to have him treated so poorly is deeply hurtful and concerning. In addition, it's getting colder and for a small animal, this is more than a short haircut. He has also been very sad ever since. I now must mitigate issues that otherwise would not have been prevalent. This makes me sad and tearful every time I look at him as this cannot be fixed. This Petco sucks. In the past I've had issues with items being priced incorrectly, like every single clearance item, for example. It was worth it to keep getting price checks to get the real price because the real price was almost always less than what it was marked as. Still, it makes extra work for the customer to have to do that, and is a sign of sloppiness in management of the store. That alone wouldn't have been enough for me to leave a bad review, but after the experience I had today, screw it. I went in to purchase some clearance Canidae food, they had a few 4lb bags marked down to $4. Then I noticed they had a Petco-wide promo for $5 off Canidae 4lb bags, no exception for clearance. So, going to the register I expected to get the bag for free, but the promo didn't take the $5 off and the MOD said she can't take $5 off $4. Or even $4 off $4 apparently. Okay, fine. She doesn't want to honor their posted signage, that's lame, but I had a backup plan anyway. I also came in with a $5 off Canidae food coupon and tried that. Boom! It worked! But the manager said that even though the coupon worked she still wasn't going to let me have the food. Excuse me, what? You are not only failing to honor your store promo but also the manufacturer's coupon that actually DID work, no override required? This Petco sucks and needs new management. read more

I was rang up quickly at the register, and asked at least once while shopping if I needed any help. This Petco has mostly all the supplies I need for my cat. It's big and they usually are never out of anything I need. They also have a nice aquarium section. When I used to have aquariums, it was nice to be able to get all the supplies from here. The service is just "meh." Sometimes you can see a friendly face and sometimes you don't but I'm buying cat food so not expecting much lol. The grooming salon is a nice addition, they used to have a cat groomer but they don't anymore so that was disappointing. read more

I walked to one to check out no one was in line and I had to wait until the employee decided to finish talking to her coworkers. Probably the worst experience ever in a retail store with an inept "manager." We shopped for our pets for several items we needed and got into line. The young man who rang us up told us he was having a hard day because people were impatient. We told him that people should not be impatient when in a store; things take time to ring up, etc. When he rang our items, it came to almost $150. We gave him a debit card and although the store machine said it was declined, the bank took the money and started processing it. We could hear another customer in another line upset because it happened to him and they told him to swipe his card again. He did and then they charged him twice. They also charged us. BUT, because they could not get THE STORE system to print a receipt, they said we could call our bank if they take the money but that we could NOT take the items that we purchased. When we asked for proof that we had been there and that they had debited our bank almost $150, they would not provide anything. When we asked for the manager, she had been standing nearby the whole time and never engaged. When we asked her if there was another manager, she said she had a co-manager but he was on a leave of absence and added that she would not tell us when he would be back. So, we asked for her name so we could prove we were in the store and spent that money but left without merchandise. Another kid working a register yelled out "Don't worry, the bank will remove it." Like, how do you know?? Anyhow, the manager told us her name was Laura. When we asked for her last name, she would not provide it. This was happening to EVERY customer not paying in cash. But they did not close the store or announce to the customers in line that it was happening. That's THEFT. When we asked Laura once more how we could prove we were there and spent the money in case the bank asked - SHE SHRUGGED HER SHOULDERS at us!!! What?!?! Who trained you and who made you manager of a store!!!! This was the most unprofessional interaction we have ever had. I have always gone between Pet Smart and Petco, but I will NEVER step foot in another Petco again. If those are the people they hire, no thanks. Do better, Petco!!! And close YOUR store if your system is not working and fix the problem. Don't have your store managers shrug their shoulders when a customer asks for help with a problem that the store created!!! read more

AVOID PETCO VITAL CARE. I buy maybe $30/month of food and litter for my two cats, and when I was buying some things at Petco the clerk enthusiastically described some plan where you pay $21 a month, then you get back $15 every month and get savings on everything and $20 back for vet bills. It sounded like I would save $2 or $3 a month so I said yes. Big mistake. You don't just get back the $15 - for who knows what reason you have to log into their site or app and "transfer" it to your account, $5 at a time. The money you get back does not stay in your account; you have to use it within a couple of weeks or it disappears. It is very easy to wind up losing money on this "savings" program, which is unique in my experience. Clearly it's Petco versus their customers. I took my cat to the vet, came to the store and asked all the clerks how I could get my $20 back; no one knew and they said I should call customer service. I called customer service to cancel my membership and I was told I could not; it auto bills for a year and auto renews (they cancelled that part for me). The woman on the phone (who was very polite and apparently talks to a large number of unhappy customers) said she would be happy to explain the program to me, which totally misses the point. I don't want someone to explain their program; I want a program that does not require explaining. I spend twenty or thirty times as much at grocery stores as I do at Petco and I have never had to phone for an explanation; I just scan my card or phone app and I save money. It is impossible to lose money at the grocery store, which is easy to do at Petco. Whatever executive designed this seems to think that saving me $2 or $3 a month makes Petco as important to me as it is to him or her - it does not. Once my membership in this infernal program expires I am headed to Petsmart. read more

I went in to grab some dog food for a stray that had adopted me about ten minutes to close and they were still courteous and helpful. The organization was a little confusing but not impossible. Store was clean, well stocked and doesn't smell like wet dog like most pet stores do. They even had a staff dog in the store who was a total sweetheart. read more

Highly disappointed in the Petco grooming in La Plata, MD. First of, I scheduled my appointment online as suggested by one of the groomers in the store when I first inquired about services. I selected the only time slot available which was 4:45pm. The day of the appointment I received a call from the groomer around 1:30pm telling me that they tried to call me earlier to see if I could drop my dog off earlier because they close at 6pm and they would need at least 3 hours for a full cut and shampoo. When I asked why would the system allow me to schedule the services I selected if the time wasn't sufficient enough, her reply was they don't have anything to do with the scheduling via the website. So I drop him off early, I show her a picture of the cut that I want and I also specify that I would like his face to maintain its fullness. She acknowledged, and that was it. I received a call 2 1/2 hours later saying that he was ready. When they brought him out to me I almost did not recognize him, she had pretty much scalped him. She just basically cut him to the lowest point she could. She said that he had some matting under his chin which could have been food. Still does not justify cutting him as low as she did. Needed nails trimmed for my dog as I normally do. Called before going to check the wait and was told "no problem" if I was on my way. Arrived 5 mins later. Waited in grooming for 15 plus mins for someone to greet us, while I saw a lady in the back washing a dog. During my wait the 2 cashiers saw me there, and were in deep conversation despite looking over at me twice with no customers. Manager or asst. manager came out, didn't even bother to look around as I stared at them all. Manager went back in office and cashiers kept talking. Groomer finally came out, stressed, covered in soap and obviously busy. She was great! But my issue is everyone else wasn't! The phone was ringing off the hook the hole time I stood there and she was trying to handle multiple dogs, me and the phones while the other workers hung out and the "manager" on duty sat in the office. I took my dog here for a bath and we thought they did a pretty good job until we noticed she had a cut on her body! We knew it was them because they tried to de-shed her summer coat and probably brushed her too hard and scraped her skin. Horrible! I will never take my dog here ever again. read more

I tried this location, I called prior to coming to confirm the time for puppy play date and was told 3PM after the rep placed me on hold to check. When I got there the trainer who was not pleasant said that it will not start until 4:30. I advised that's not what they said when I called. Her reply "well your not a regular so I only advised the regulars", well excuse me, rude much!!! Her positioning was poor instead of apologizing she acted as if it was my fault their employees are not aware of what's going on in their store.
