Makali is the grooming manager and the only person I have ever allowed to groom my dogs. She is nothing short of amazing. She goes above and beyond to make sure both of my dogs are comfortable and they always come back looking amazing. I have never had any issues with her in the past. I've followed her from another location and would never look back. She pays attention to all the little details. My dogs have never left sad. Please don't spend your money on Petco dog training, trainer is knowlegeble but we have receive worst service for our 5 sessions out of 6. They don't follow basic manners of calling and telling that class has been canceled or rescheduled - happened 2 times We had one session where our puppy was a show dog...we didn't learn anything and when I asked he said will teach you in next session. We waited 1 hour for our scheduled class and then he told ...please come next week (We have to cancel out work meeting in order to get there so painful) We haven't received a call for our last training and no refund for that class, You will be better off without any training than joing puppy sessions at Petco. Brought my little Lillen in yesterday to pick up a few staples. While there, we were approached by four different friendly workers asking how we were, did we need help, etc... It was nice to be treated like a valued customer and Lillen got quite a bit of petting from staff (she was happy about that). The store always seems very clean and well stocked and I found the book I was hoping to buy. Update now - I gave their Grooming Dept. a try about a year ago. I was extremely nervous about using them because I didn't know anyone who'd been there. Lillen has been going regularly ever since her first great looking cut. She sees Kim, who has 4+ years with Petco and she has done a fabulous job providing the specific look I wanted with Lillen as well as making Lillen feel welcome. It's obvious she loves dogs and her job. Today Lillen was waiting to be picked up from her appointment with two adorable lady bug bows - I didn't ask for bows but Kim knew Lillen was going to do Pet Therapy at a children's hospital so she surprised us with the extra cuteness. I purchased puppy training at a Petco 6 hours from my home.. the classes were on sale that day so I figured why not.. talked to the General Manager and she said it can be transferred to the location by my home. Perfect! I stopped into the Petco on Dublin Blvd because it was right by home and to schedule trainings etc. the lady said "you can't use the training here" and went about her business. I asked her what I can do and she said the only thing you can do is try to return them and she said that I can repurchase them at full price at the Dublin location. The ONLY reason why I bought them is because they were on sale. Meanwhile... I brought my puppy in to play with the other puppies and they did not require any paperwork for shots (thought that was a little scary because another Petco location required puppies to be up to date for shots at their age and needed papers). I then called the GM at the original store and she was shocked that they treated me that way and said she would call the location I tried to use them at and there will not be a problem. A couple days later I contacted the Dublin location to see if I can use them and the store manager made me feel very guilty about using them and said that the trainer would not get paid for training my dog etc. After the constant battle back and forth I just returned the training and went with a different training package somewhere else. read more

I love this Petco store near my house. This is why: Friendly staff !! They are all versed with the products in the store. If they don't know how to answer a question, they will track it down for me. Tawny, store manager, is a bundle of fun. Sometimes she brings in her bird, Max. Love Max too!! Alex seems super happy at work too. Every time I arrive, I get a big sweet greeting from Alex and whoever else is standing at the front. Makes a huge difference to be greeted like this. Literally the worst grooming experience I've ever had. Monotone unfriendly staff, didn't listen to a thing I asked. Cut our dogs hair SO short we now have to wait 2 months for it to grow back, and I would be open to the consideration that there can easily be a miscommunication about clippers and how short to go despite my words 'we like her long' and the groomer saying 'if I feel it's going too short I'll stop.' But on top of that our dog's nails weren't clipped, sanitary hardly touched and face really messy. It's baffling how they managed to do the opposite of everything I asked. Super mad and when I mentioned this to friends seems it's a common experience at Petco. I will never support this chain again. read more

On July 8, 2010, I went into this Petco to browse around. When looking through the rodents area, I notice a female rat that was in distress. I notified the staff on hand but the treatment from the staff to the rat was less than adequate. I was reassured that the rat was fine by the staff despite the follow things I noticed looking at her: a) The rat was laying on it's side covered in it's own urine b) All the other rats have abandoned her to sleep outside the rat house c) Her breathing was very heavy The staff had informed me that it was a bit warm in the cage and that's why she was breathing heavy. Otherwise, she was just sleeping. Instead of picking up the rat to examine it, the staff had poked her with his keys instead. I purchased the sick rat. After leaving the pet store, I went home and called up the local emergency veterinary clinic. I took her in to get checked out. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and being severely underweight. Antibiotics were given and she is now being properly taken care of. Take caution with buying animals from this store. If you can afford it, do what I did and save a life. However, be weary of who you ask for help when you see an animal in distress. Most female staff are great. The male staff - not so great. No offense but just my experience. read more

This review is for BOTH the store and the groomer. I wish you could give no stars! The people here weren't helpful at all. I walked around looking for folks to ask whether the toy was good for my dog. I found them all at the register shooting the bull and even when I walked up, I was blatantly ignored. When I spoke up, they (two young ladies and a man) looked at me like I was rudely interrupting! Horrible service. The groomer there is HORRENDOUS. I wish I remembered the name of the woman who I spoke to. I brought Willis (my dog) in to get trimmed. Granted, this was his second time ever being groomed, so he's not used to it and was a bit fidgety. I asked that everything be trimmed way down, but to leave his goatee and tail alone. THAT'S IT. THOSE WERE THE ONLY INSTRUCTIONS I GAVE. I came back 3 hours later - which is fine - to the most atrocious haircut I've ever seen. Not only did they shave his goatee AND tail, they didn't bother to trim the hair on his underside or legs. Worse, they didn't even blow off all the excess hair trimmed off! I picked him up and there was enough hair to make a hairball the size of a golf ball all over my clothes! As if the haircut wasn't bad enough, I asked the woman behind the counter if she could please take him back and trim his leg hairs. She deadpan said, "Your dog won't sit still. I couldn't get it. You need to take him home and when he's calm, put an electric toothbrush by his ear so he can get used to the sound. Besides, we're busy and don't have time to take him". SERIOUSLY?! We had Willis groomed at the Petco off Crow Canyon in San Ramon and they did a great job - this lady is either lazy or doesn't know what the hell she's doing. For goodness sake, you really ought to have the time to FIX YOUR MISTAKE. I took Willis to the Crow Canyon Petco. Thankfully, they just needed my receipt and fixed Willis up in a jiffy - no charge. I am NEVER EVER EVER coming back to the Dublin Petco. read more

Went here the other day to check out their options on dog bed, bowls and try to buy a carrier to bring home our soon to be new puppy in. Well, I wasn't at all impressed. The store was on the small side, which meant that they didn't have a very good selection. I found the carrier, but it was priced way higher than what I had seen on line. I'm only going to be able to use the thing one time...after that it will be to small for her, so I don't want to spend a ton. I prefer Pet Food Express, but they also didn't have the carrier I needed. Finally, I found the right carrier at PetSmart...priced about $20 less than the same item at Petco. read more

Buyer beware. I purchased some marked down dog biscuits here and brought them home for the pup. I didn't open the bag, but later found several bugs crawling around my kitchen counter where the bag had been placed. Shortly thereafter, I discovered that the discount dog biscuits were not just soon to expire (which I was fine with), but were infested with some sort of food borne insect. That is unacceptable. Discounting soon to expire dry goods is one thing. Selling food items full of live bugs surreptitiously is something all together different. read more

This review is on their bunny adoptions on weekends and fish food. I had a positive experience when I shopped here a couple weeks ago for fish food. Armed with my $5 Petco store bucks, I spent it on Koi fish food. The cashier was friendly and smiling. NOW...here's why I am writing this review. Petco adopted a policy regarding the non-sale of rabbits/bunnies at PETCOs nationwide. This store is one of the Adopt a Bunny locations where rabbit/bunny volunteers host open adoptions on Saturdays and Sundays. I was planning on going in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes for fish food. I ended up spending over one hour playing, holding, and staring at the cute bunnies. They were so warming and friendly. I am considering adopting one now and am glad that this PETCO is allowing the group to host in their store every weekend. Exception: the dog sitting/doggy day care and grooming department is rather large and offers a lot more than pay smart. Although grooming is slightly more expensive as well. We take very good care of him and he's an easy going dog. I normally groom him myself with no problem, but I thought it would be a treat for him to get groomed professionally. My family and I have been taking our cocker spaniel here for almost a year now after having some bad experiences at other local groomers. We are pretty bad about not brushing him because he hates it so much so he gets matted very easily. We taking him in knowing that he will have to be shaved pretty short but Alicia always listens to our instructions and fulfills them. I had such great service at Petco in Dublin. I needed a pair of clippers and after looking at all of them, I was so confused, I didn't know what to get. The clerk helping me took her time and even offered to get a groomer to help me. The groomer was going on his break but took his time to come over and educate me on the clippers. Just picked up my two fur babies from the groomer, and I could not be happier!!! They look perfect! I have a high maintenance little Pomeranian and a sweet chihuahua. I rescued Twila, the Pom, about 3-4 months ago, and she gets VERY nervous about visiting the groomer- for whatever reason. This was her first haircut with me because I've been easing her into the whole grooming trip to eventually squash that fear. The groomers were so so kind and understanding. I bought a guinea pig from this Petco the beginning of June. About 2 or 3 weeks later, I noticed that his ear was a little bloody and there was a white-ish scab. Being a first time guinea pig owner I FREAKED out and took him back immediately (since they said I am allowed to bring him back for anything 30 days within purchase) to get checked out. The manager took one glance at his ear and said it was "just a scratch" and that he would be fine. He does have a cage mate, so I figured they might have scratched each other while playing and was relieved to hear it was nothing serious. Fast forward to now. Come to find out it was not a scratch BUT RINGWORM. Not only does he have ringworm, he also infected his brother, who unfortunately has it much worse than him. Multiple vet visits, $300+ in tests and medicine, I now realize that the small white scab on his ear was not a scratch, but RINGWORM!!! I honestly blame myself for thinking the workers here are qualified to assess the animals like that and should have listened to my gut and taken him to the vet in the first place. but the least this manager could do was tell me that she wasn't sure or that I should take him to the vet instead of acting like she knew what she was talking about. It is really upsetting to see my pets so uncomfortable because of someone else's carelessness and inexperience!!!!!!! read more

This is a good neighborhood Petco in Dublin. They have all the usual supplies and are well stocked. We live in SF, but as I used to work in Pleasanton, I'd often come to this store on my way home from work...because the Petco in SF doesn't have the same great variety of products. For instance, my little dog loves the "rawhide fries" as she likes small chewies she can hold w/her tiny paws...and often it's hard to find chewies that are small that she likes. We have been able to find that product here in Dublin store, but not in the SF store...so REALLY happy about that. I also recommend their clothes and toys sections...as they often have more inventory variety than the one in SF as well. read more

The people at this Petco are so friendly! One of my dogs took the training class in January. He and I both loved it! The teacher was so cheerful and my dog loved coming every week. I came in today with my dog, and the trainer still remembered us and gave my dogs treats! I take my dogs here for grooming occasionally and they always come out happy and looking great. They have windows to the grooming area, so I can see that my dogs look perfectly fine while they are being groomed. I always feel worried because they seem nervous when I drop them off-so its reassuring to be able to see the grooming. When I brought my dogs today, I asked if they could put a bow on one of my dogs. They surprised me by putting a bow on that was pink polka dots-which perfectly matched her collar! The merchandise at this store can be a bit pricey, but they always have lots of cool stuff on clearance! read more

So I walked over to where he was and stood there and he didn't look up and I had to tell him are you going to acknowledge me. And then when I asked him for what I needed he didn't know anything. He didn't even know what a pet was I don't think.
