Went in to get some live plants for my turtle. When I first walked in, I didn't see any employees at all in the store. After a bit, I figured out on my own where they kept the aquatic plants. I stood there for a few minutes, trying to figure out which plant to get out of their rather sad selection, and still no one was around. I decided on a plant, and as I walked toward the cash register, I came across an employee (it was hard to tell since she didn't have anything on that distinguished her from the other customers). I was about to ask her a question, but she gave me a rather hard, long look that said, "Why are you looking at me?", as she muttered about trying to put some plastic bags near the open-bar dog treats section and walked off. I decided that I didn't really want to buy the plant from this store, so I put it back, and walked out without anyone noticing at all. read more

I called on Tuesday to find out if they had a vaccine clinic the little girl told me Saturday from 3 to 6. I made arrangements to have my parents pup at my house in Fremont so I could drive her out to Dublin. I got this funny feeling so I called and spoke to the manager Hailey I asked her how does the clinic run she told me I need to be on the list ‍ I asked what list the girl on Tuesday said nothing about having to be on the list. Hailey then cut me off and said well we decided to do this a couple of days ago because it's so busy. I told her that I wasn't informed and was trying to explain I made arrangements but she cut me off. I find the customer service horrible if you decide to make up rules you need to do it in advance and inform all your employees. I understand that she is probably someone in her 20's that doesn't have the knowledge on how to have good customer service skills. I will be contacting the corporate office read more

Took an appointment for my dog for grooming service and took my dog's rabbis vaccination certificate. Both store manager and groomer would not accept the certificate (which was accepted by everyone including City of Pleasanton, other groomers, and by my new vet). They said the certificate looks like it has been "made up". Even though it has Vet's name, signature, license number and address, they would not accept. Worst part is when I asked If they think I "made up" the certificate, they said "Yes". I have never seen such rude people in my life. Obviously I am never going back to this store nor any Petco ever. Not only lost me as a customer they lost all my friend's business. read more

Went in here today to be greeted by a lovely young lady. Our family just got our first dog and this lady was just so helpful! I told her I wanted treats and she directed me and helped me out the entire time it was great. She explained in detail why you give puppies certain treats and helped me get an idea of what I would want. Ultimately I needed to know what brand my puppy was currently on so we could get a better understanding of what would be best for her stomach. It was nice that she seemed genuinely helpful and was very knowledgeable on everything. She then took me over to the toys and showed me all the different options I have for now and then when she gets older. I settled on the ant eater. I was extremely happy with the service I received and hope it continues to be this good since this store is literally right around the corner from our house. read more

I used to bring my Maltese here when the manager would groom her. But I switched groomers when the manager left. I decided to go back when I found out that they have a new manager with 5 years experience. What a mistake. My dog came back completely uneven hair and we paid $65. I was told I can bring her back in to even it out but her hair is just so short and some areas along and others I didn't want them to make more of a mess of it. Never going back again. read more

Grooming act not together. Called ahead to get an appointment. They said they don't do appointments, it's drop in only. Suggested coming in between 3 and 5 o'clock. Mentioned I'd need proof of shots. Said the info on the collar tag would be enough for them to look it up. So far, so good. I came in around 4:30. First thing I noticed was that the person in front of me was being told to come back to pick up his dog some time after 7:00 because there were two dogs ahead of him. At an hour apiece and him ahead of me, the would have me coming back at 8:00. Next problem: either the person my wife spoke to didn't know what they were talking about, or the groomer was trying to avoid work. One way or the other, when I got there the story had changed from being able to get info from tag to having to have the original paperwork. If they need the original paperwork, fine. Say so. Don't waste my time driving across town. read more

I brought my dog in yesterday for a grooming appointment. Makali was so friendly when we got there. My dog is not a fan of getting groomed...nervous. When I picked her up, not only did she look and smell beautiful, she was wagging her tail and so happy! I know there are other places that only do grooming, but my dog got a little report card with notes they gave me. I am sold on Petco! Make sure you make an appointment ahead of time, they book up! Pet Co in Dublin sold us not once, but twice very sick guinea pigs. Both looked fine at the time of purchase, both died approximately 3 months later. They were my daughters pets and both she and I cared for them so they were not mistreated. I personally took care of the second one to ensure nothing happened to it, but with all the love, care and attention in the world it still died suddenly one day. When I contacted Pet Co to alert them of this issue, not wanting anything in return except an acknowledgment they would look into the sick guinea pigs we believed were being sold at the Dublin store I received back a defensive letter that took no responsibility whatsoever. All I asked was that they check into it so another child would not have to bury her beloved pet not once, but twice. We no longer shop at Pet Co for any of our animals needs. read more

I've never had a bad experience at any of the Petcos I've patronized throughout the US. This one was no exception. I signed up with their card program at another Petco up in Walnut Creek, but for some reason the phone number wasn't going through. The cashier was nice enough to scan with a card that provided me the discount off the cat food and litter I bought. Very cool of him. PLEASE improve your hiring and training, Petco! I'm being nice giving two stars, I went back and forth between 1-2 stars, consider it a gift! Let's cut to the chase, when you hire smokers (I hate smoking), please tell them not to "hotbox" in their car on break and use breath freshener when they return to work. I took my family to Petco to purchase some fancy rats and the guy who helped us reeked of cigarette smoke - clothing and god-awful breath! My guess is that he just got out of lock-up and was working in Petco's prison work-release program (maybe I gave them one star for hiring ex-cons - an admirable mission). As hard as he tried, he didn't seem to be very knowledgeable about rats which made it worse for us as we had to endure his smokey disposition much longer than we would have liked or was necessary. Next up, the cashier...she was useless, unfriendly and acted like she was doing us a favor asking the manager if we could use our discount coupon. Listen Petco, if you want to play games with discounts and treat your customers like criminals when they present a coupon, then we will walk and never return - pretty simple. I can't believe this store is still open. The rats are all sick with upper respiratory infections. And the cages they keep the small animals in are difficult and small.The place was dirty and the staff were all rude. I witnessed the manager rolling her eyes behind customers backs. As an employee of 7 months now I have to say I love it here, we are slowly making improvements with the animals, with the help of our manager. My coworkers are amazing and really care not only about the customers but the animals as well, my managers are amazing people who all are very supportive and are open to listen to new ideas. I have been coming to this petco since I was very little and it has improved dramatically it is cleaner the staff is kinder and all around it is improving. We take our dog to Petco regularly for grooming. They do a terrific job, the pricing is right, and he loves going there. GREAT!!

This review is only for the grooming service only. We took our lab there for a summer grooming. We have had him shaved down on several occasions for the summer. He is older and the heat is very uncomfortable for him. He has never had a problem with a short haircut. We both initially brought him in and the man that works there recommended a short cut, but not all the way down, which was fine with us. He said our dog may get a sunburn, which he never has with a short cut, but fine. My wife took him in and one of the women there argued with her on the length of the cut, even though her co-worker had noted the length from the previous visit. She left him there and when I picked him up, he had barely been trimmed, then I had to listen to their justification for not doing what we wanted. We will never use their service for anything again and we used to go there regularly for basic grooming on all three of our dogs. read more

Went here looking for a new collar for our cat. Much brighter and cleaner than the San Ramon store. Small parking lot in front though. The staff here seemed more friendlier and more helpful than the staff at the San Ramon Petco and at the nearby Petsmart. For tropical fish, I still prefer to get mine from the nearby Petsmart. read more

Workers are rude, brought my aussie in who is extremely timid. Cashier said they tried to train an aussie once but were unable to. When I never asked about training. I understand she was trying to have small talk but that's not the way to do it. They have good sales, but that's about it. I would recommend Petsmart any day over petco. read more

These people are fithy ! I had a 5pm appointment for grooming. They checked my dog in and locked him up alone in the back while they proceeded to help the 4 non appointment walk ins. Not good but I would have put up with it as I had no other times available to get this done. The reason I walked out at 5:45 is because the 1st dog they took had a massive eye infection. They should have turned him away until the infection was treated however, and much worse they clipped the dogs hair away from his infected eyes and told the owner to get the dog treated at the vet and proceeded to take the next pet for a nail trim. THE GUY NEVER WASHED HIS HANDS OR WORK STATION before treating the other dogs in the exact same spot. The next dog was another trim. Still no washing of the hands or cleaning. I pointed this out to other employees and made it clear I wanted the guy to wash his hands and use clean clippers before touching my dog and asked for the manager. No one was able to give me a manager or a name so I walked out. No more Petco. If my dog winds up with an infection I'll be after them to pay for it. You have to wonder how long it has been since they cleaned anything. Stay away from dirty Petco and the dirty groomer Evan. I work in surgery and can guarantee you this is how infections are spread ! read more

Every time I come in to get my dog's nails trimmed they see her right away with no waiting and no appointment necessary. They do a lovely job buffing her nails, and it never takes more than 2 minutes. The staff is friendly and attentive. Today we strolled around the pet shop section and all the animals' living quarters were impeccably maintained. I have been to other stores where this work was blatantly neglected, but not here! I highly recommend this location to any pet parents. read more

Came into Petco today looking for a solution for my dog's constant itching and gnawing. I knew fleas weren't the culprit because I've diligently treated him since we rescued him a month ago. I feel so sorry for my dog because he is miserable 99.9% of the time being that his skin is so irritated. I have tried just about every topical solution and the sprays and shampoos seem to work ok. Also, have him on a grain free diet as the vet suggested. I asked one of the employees there if he knew or had experience with customers who have/had this issue. To my surprise and frankly, relief, this guy (Sean) knew more than my vet seemed to. He got us hooked up with a single protein basic food that was fish based. Who would have thought? Most dogs are allergic to chicken! No wonder I can't tame this problem, I've been feeding him grain free blue buffalo with chicken since day 1. I really hope this works but even if not, I just saved about $500 at the vet getting him tested by finding from Sean that chicken is a common pet allergy. Worth a try and if it helps, my dog and I can sleep soundly without his violent itching! There is no price I can put on my dogs happiness. I can't express enough how helpful he was. He even turned us on to some pumpkin Purée that will ease the process of switching of foods without having to continue feeding him chicken. If there's a bottom line I can get to in this review it's that this Petco is by far the best around with the most friendly and helpful staff. Sean needs a considerable raise and a promotion ! My fiancé and I are literally walking away from this with a whole new perspective and peace of mind. We are both pretty smart, educated people and we just learned more about our own pet than any of the research we've conducted this far, and also, more than our vet could even tell us! Talk about passion for animals, and people, this guy has it all. We cannot thank him enough. read more

My family and I were on our way to SF to take our dogs for a beach day, coming from Stockton, one of our dogs, our 10 month old Rottweiler got car sick and threw up twice so we stopped at this Petco. Employees promptly asked if we needed help, and Amy, an employee there was very kind to us and went above and beyond. She answered all questions, helped us choose anti-nausea tablets, and gave the the dogs lots of love! She deserves employee of the month or a promotion! read more

It also has no affiliation with the vaccine clinics that give shots there either. Its a decent petco. Its overpriced for everything, like Petcos always are. This Petco is very small and dirty and is no suprise given who they have running this store. The lady (Kelly) is very rude and extremely condescending to customers. Before I got to the register I heard her ask a customer if she had something to pay with besides change. When I got to the register I was needing to return an item the first thing she said before checking was "we don't carry that" even though it's on their shelf and refused to return it. I tried working with another lady and Kelly kept interrupting and refusing to return it without a receipt. I told them I wanted Store credit and they still refused. She said there was no way of her telling how much I paid for it as if I was lying to her. I explained myself repeatedly and even took a picture of the same product on their shelf. She said that other customers are "smart" enough to bring in their receipt. Mind you this is a lady who is managing this store and wearing her regular clothes while everyone else is in uniform. I love this store so much, everyone is so friendly and I often take our 2 fur babies here because they love to socialize and get lots of attention. Everyone is very knowledgeable and has been so helpful with any questions or needs for our senior dog and our 7 month old puppy. Aimee is wonderful, sweet, and very knowledgeable about food, treats, and pets in general. I love when she is working because our puppy is very fond of her and she is always able to answer any questions that we have. I wish we could get the same kind of customer service that Aimee provides everywhere we go, she is exceptional! Peggy is amazing as well, she is very knowledgeable and her love of animals is very apparent. We have taken 4 puppy classes so far with her and our little Chihuahua pup has come so far in just a matter of a few weeks with her training. My husband never has had a dog before so she is doing a great job teaching him as well...lol. Rene is a helpful, nice, and friendly manager who is hand to help with anything that is needed as well. Finally, Mikali is THE BEST groomer ever! We will only take our 2 fur babies to her because she greets them when they come and they just love to see her so that means that they must be just as happy as I am when they get groomed. Our fur babies come out with such soft, lightly fragranced fur. There nails are trimmed perfectly and we couldn't be happier with her beautiful work. Thanks to everyone at our local Petco pet store. I have taken my 4-year old golden retriever to many different grooming salons. I had problems with scheduling, staff, and the grooming at Petsmart before I decided to give this Petco grooming a try. I have to say the groomer there was wonderful! My dog is a little nervous, and the groomer was calm and gentle, and my dog looked and smelled beautiful! Her teeth and ears were cleaner than they've ever been! The groomer was friendly and helpful with a few questions that I had and took her time listening to me. My dog looked exactly what I was hoping she looked like. I'll definitely be bringing her back! read more

This Petco store is great! Really quiet and nice to just browse around. The employees here are super friendly. I asked a simple question about a dog grooming item (as seen on TV nail grinder) and the girl cashier was very helpful and honest. She helped me find a better solutions for my dog and his temperament.
