Our dog Lily, who is a Bichon Frise, got an absolutely great hair cut from a lady named Destiny. Lily is on a special C/D diet and Anna (manager?) and Andrew took great care of me when I went to pick up a couple of cases of the type that Lily likes the best. Self-bathe is an affordable way to bathe your dog and leave the mess at petco! My partner and I took our pup in last week. Super easy. Here's how you do it. 1. Go to the grooming department. 2. Tell them you want the self bathe option 3. Pay twenty dollars 4. They'll give you a basket with everything you need- smocks to keep you clean, shampoo, conditioner, two types of fur brushes, and towels. 5. Everything else at the big tubs have instructions on it. i love this Petco location is very convenient W Valkey and 15 in Esco ! had to get on board again with the flea meds for my furbabies -this summer is even more brutal than last. Seresto works well for us and i only buy it once a year. Everything you need for your pets under the sun you can buy here. Stopped to get my Rudi a birthday gift and treat. Selections for toys are limited. I did find some doggy ice cream from Ben and Jerry's. Store could use some reorganizing and a bit of tidying up. We've never been to a Petco for grooming. Being they're closer in location to us than our groomer we had for our little dogs that crossed over and open weekends which our other groomer isn't; we thought we'd give it a try. We were told it'd take 4 hours which is norm. But after 2-1/2 hours we got a call, he was done already. Nice...so we thought. When we got there to pick him up and were paying, we were told by the girl, "Your dog is 12 years old and fidgets a lot. We're a corporate company and we don't have the time to groom him." I was stunned a little asking, "Does that mean he's not allowed here in for grooming?" "Yes, correct, he's not...try a vet or a private groomer instead." Wow! And that not even the worst of it! When they brought him out it was busy and we could tell we needed to get him outside to pee. When we did and could actually take a look at him, his grooming was the worst either my wife & I have ever had with any of our dogs! His face was still all dirty, he had hair actually sticking into both eyes, the top of his head was 2 different lengths (1/2 inch shorter on the left side and 1/2 inch longer on the right side)! His whole face was hack jobbed and totally uneven all over. NONE of the hair was taken out of the inside of his ears. Off their grooming length chart, I picked the length I wanted him cut to when we dropped him off and he was shaved instead, almost bare (and it wasn't because he was matted as my wife brushed him out the day before going here). When we got home, my wife had to cut to even out all the hair on his head & face, cut the long hair under his eyes and clean it, & trim the hair from inside his ears. So for $80 to get this "grooming", the staff doesn't have to worry about us EVER going back! read more

They had what others didn't. Our dog had some minor surgery on her paws and the vet provided this ridiculously large plastic cone that was totally unworkable, plus two types of medicine in pill form. So, I went out in search of an appropriate soft cone and some pill pockets. Simple, right? Except all the other stores had the soft cones for smaller dogs, not my reasonably sized Siberian Husky. This Petco store had it, and after searching for an associate, I also found the pill pockets, which worked great to administer these pills 30-times over ten days. The store is clean and packed full with merchandise, so finding things is not easy. The staff is friendly, but you have to chase them down. Nobody had the idea to actually approach me and ask if I needed help, something that I am used to from their competitors. Proactive service would make me a regular customer and would make this a five-star review. read more

She went above and beyond, stepping away from the register to help me pick out everything I needed for a beautiful fish tank. Disappointed in the employees for the self serve bath area. We brought in our giant breed puppy for a bath. She was wiggly and wet so I asked if we could please have another apron to use. Employee went to find one and then came back and with attitude told me "Only one apron allowed per basket" I noted that the instructions on the wall state to use the provided head collar to secure the dog in tub. We never received this so our puppy was able to try and escape and splash. My biggest complaint was the attitude of the person about the apron. It seems like a silly thing until you're the one standing there drenched. read more

I have been going to Petco in Escondido for years. They are so knowledgeable on many levels, but I have to say today really was the icing on the cake.! Cathie... the most wonderful employee... Was on her way to do something else when I asked her what recommendations she would have for a very itchy dog, who didn't have fleas or worms, but his owner fed him a lot of chicken. She gave me so much wisdom about allergies for dogs and the products that are best to help their digestive system and what foods to avoid. She walked me right down to the right aisle and she was just so friendly, professional and informative, how could I go anywhere else? I LOVE this place and so does my own dog by the way! read more

It's been 3 times now I have the worst experience there with the grooming department they always turn my dog away and make up lies about him having diarrhea so they can't groom him.. and they are so rude about it to top it off no empathy in their voice , so rude . So I leave and take him to the petco in San Marcos and they are the most kind team there , they took him after being turned away at the Escondido location and never have problems grooming him .. whoever the tall lady is with the curly hair at the grooming station is so rude it's my second interaction with her . If they don't want to groom people's dogs then they should not work there and the lack of customer service is crazy . So take your dogs to the San Marcos or another place like sandy paws where you and your dog will get treated right . read more

Dog stuff is mainly on the left, fish are in the middle (favorite of my kids), and other pet stuff is on the right. They also have a veterinarian service built into the front of the store, and a groomer. I come here mainly for the self-serve dog wash. For $20 they provide the supplies, and I walk away with a clean dog. My dog is 85lbs... coming here for bath time is much better than trying to wash him at home.Their wands do not dispense soap/conditioner as designed. Instead, they provide you with soap and conditioner bottles in a handy basket with towels and combs. You can bring your own soap if you want. They have a great selection of grooming supplies, skin care, and health items. Their dog food area has a lot of options. read more

I took my dog on Friday , December 8, 2024 for a small bump on his forehead. The vet took a skin sample and rendered a 14 day supply of antibiotics. It is now Tuesday, December 12, 2024. I called today at 11am for the test results. I was told the Vet would review the results and call me back. It is now 5:50pm and the Vet never called me back. I called the Vet and was told by a rude male who answered the phone to call back tomorrow. I asked male, why can the Vet call me back as I was told? Silence, what a useless waste of my time. Very unprofessional, I am just desperately trying to find out if the skin sample is Cancerous. Who in the world does this to a Disabled Customer. We live 20 miles from Escondido Petco on Valley Center. After checking their website to see if you need an appointment for dog nail trim I noted "no appointment needed, just walk in." Not what happen. When going to check in I was informed that no nail trims were being done as technician does not have time. Other people in line were there for same thing. I really do not appreciate the fact that I have to buy prescription food for my cat. But I have to. Accessibility: there are accessible parking spots not right in front of the building but nearby. If you cannot get a spot there, there are other parking spots available and I would say the parking lot is always half full. There is a ramp to get onto the sidewalk directly in front of the front doors. The entrance is motion-activated and it is air conditioned inside. The isles are not super wide but definitely wide enough for wheelchairs. They also have restrooms in the very front of the store; turn left as soon as you enter the front doors. They also have curbside pickup and you can shop online and have it delivered. Experience: I love this Petco. The employees are really friendly and helpful, and they have a ton of product selection. I also appreciate that the staff don't shame guests when dogs or cats pee or poop inside, they just help clean it up and say it happens all the time. I wish Petco as a company was cheaper because it's a bit out of my budget, but I do love it. read more

Thanks so much, Lauren! Due to your solid recommendation to start our dog on probiotics I must say ever since starting the Pet Honesty Pumpkin Probiotics chews she's back to her young self! Her bowels became solid later that very day! She has even been passing grass that she was really starting to chew on a daily based a couple times a day. We took our puppy to the puppy play they had and it was the best thing for her! We were able to socialize her at 8 weeks to get her comfortable around other dogs and people. The best part was we met Isis one of the trainers, she is wonderful with the dogs. We are in training with her now at Petco and it is really helping. (our 4th Aussie and eighth dog but a little help is what we needed) We do all our shopping there now because we are so grateful for the puppy play time and Isis is willing to help us find just what we need. Unfortunately, the worst experience we have for our many pets! We took our 28 pound Cocker Spaniel into this Petco for a grooming, and after we made an appointment a week prior. They told us that our perfectly healthy dog was too old to be groomed by them. When we inquired about the policy, the Manager of the store was extremely rude and had a did not care attitude. I've been coming to this Petco for training classes with my puppy, and for the puppy play time. The store is clean and they have a vast selection of any pet products you need, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it's a good time whenever I go. I'm still heading here for training and still shop here, but I would really love it if puppy play time came back sooner rather than later. It was great for my pup, he learned to socialize and play with other dogs when he can't do that at home. I've seen not only my own pup, but others there, open up and gain confidence by playing with each other. Training class followed by playtime with trainer Isis watching over the pack was a highlight of our week, I hope it comes back soon. read more
