My 4 year old Maltese dog was given away to another family. When I went to pick up my dog I was handed an 11 year old Maltese non- neutered. The employees insisted that the wrong dog was certainly mine, which it was not. Not until my husband arrived at the location did they believe that the 11 year old was confirmed not to be my dog. I stayed at muddy Paws for at least 2 hours trying to get my dog back. The other family had my dog for hours and insisted that my dog was theirs. I was sick to my stomach. Finally after multiple phone calls the other family brought my dog back. After an email to the manager, she refused to refund my money only offering a credit for a future groom. I was not confident to return as a customer and was denied a refund. This was a horrible experience I felt like I wasn't ever going to get my dog back. read more

Very disappointed when I dropped of my dog for a grooming today. Ever since Covid, it has been impossible to get an appointment unless it's 2-3 months in the future. I walked in to drop off my dog and there were two women at the front with masks down to their chins. When I left, they pointed out that masks are required when I return. I don't need to mention San Diego is 80% vaccinated and so am I. I feel pressured to always leave a tip as they ask If I want to and it's not confidential, they ask they ask how much. The prices should reflect a built in tip so as not to make the customers feel uncomfortable or at least let them sign the card machine on their own like most businesses. After eight years with Countryside and Muddy Paws I think I'll take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Highly inefficient system and poor customer service. They use a drop off/pick up system, which does not allow you to select exactly which service you would like, you don't know when they will be done, and my dog is sometimes there for half the day... Without being able to specify the service, we have struggled with several miscommunications, which led to us having to bring him back in on multiple days. We also schedule his appointments a month in advance, and they called a week prior to the appointment stating they didn't have a groomer on our scheduled date, asked me to move it, and told me I need to schedule further in advance... On all of these occasions, the "manager" was present, and she NEVER apologized or offered to remedy the situation. If she had simply used basic customer service and apologized for the mistakes, we probably would have given them another chance. read more

I called Muddy Paws Country Spa and got their last kennel on the day we were leaving, since our dog sitter fell through. Our dog stay there for three nights and when I picked him up although he was excited to see me it look like he had we gotten most of his energy out over the weekend. The service was great there. I was a bit concerned that he wouldn't get along with the other dogs and be unable to go into their daycare playpen during the day. There staff promptly did a temperament test which our pup did well on. Definitely recommend and will return. Thanks! read more

Show up for a scheduled grooming apt only to find the groomer had left for the day. Very bad first impression.

{This review is for their GROOMING services, not boarding.) Micaela is WONDERFUL! It was our first visit and I was, as usual, a bit nervous. Didn't know them and have a very strong instinct to protect my pup. But the moment we walked in, Sophie (dog) was wagging her tail and giving kisses. A sure sign she was comfortable. Micaela was calm and reassuring as I went thru my list of things NOT to do. Picked her up about 3 1/2 hours later and Sophie was as calm and happy as she'd been when I left. Another excellent sign. They did a fantastic job. Also,unlike many other so-called "spas", they didn't charge an arm and a leg for their services. I will definitely go back. Highly recommended! read more

I have only had good experiences here. I have a 160 pound geriatric Newfoundland. They take excellent care of him and he always comes home happy and smelling terrific. Plus, should something happen (which I do not envision) I know he would receive excellent care at Countryside, the veterinary clinic on site. read more

Muddy Paws is the place to go too, small to large dogs, Mocha and Saki had a wonderful experience for their first day care. Boarding, Daycare,Grooming, other services such as Vet clinic is available on site. Caretaker are friendly and knowledgeable. Nice area inside large area for dog to enjoy outdoors. Happy to hear how our dogs are doing while away by email or web cam. Give them a try it will be well worth the trip. read more

My review is based on the CAT boarding. My family and I were in need of a cat boarding service for three nights while we left town. Muddy Paws' website stated that they have cat as well as dog boarding services (although it was pretty clear they primarily catered to dogs). The pictures on their website are very misleading if you are looking for any cat services. The "standard condo" boarding for a cat is a 2x2 square metal cage in the *hospital* (Countryside Vet Clinic) that muddy paws is connected to. I only found this out when I asked to see where my cat would be staying. They seemed kind of hesitant at first but ultimately led me through the cracks of the hospital to a room the size of a small janitor's closet that had about 7 metal cages stacked upon one another. It smelled awful and there was some senile dog in the cage next to my cat who was constantly whimpering. It was clear that these cages were meant for animals to stay after surgery or for other hospital procedures. They should definitely NOT advertise it as "cat - standard condo boarding" or whatever. I decided to cut my trip 2 days short to pick him up in half the time because I didn't feel comfortable leaving him in those conditions for that long. I am mad at myself for not checking out the facility prior because I trusted all the good reviews (even though they were all about the dog services). However, their website has some serious false advertising going on for the cat services. My suggestion to Muddy Paws is to add pictures of the cage that owners will be leaving their cat in if they choose to board them with your facility. You must be truthful when it comes to people leaving their loved ones in your care. I will say that the owner, who came when he saw my family viewing the cages, was fairly kind and gave us a tour of their "future plans" for the cat boarding (including a nice sunroom). This does not change the fact, however, that the *current* condition of their cat boarding is very sad. One last thing. The women wearing maroon scrubs that worked at the front desk weren't very friendly (not rude, but not friendly either) which I always find really important when you're the first to greet a customer. In short.... don't bring your cat here for boarding. Unless it is shorter than 24 hours or until they have built their new cat building. Personally, I'll have trouble trusting a facility even with my future dogs when I know that they have concealed the truth (through a lack of pictures and descriptions on their site) in the past. read more

Best local dog hotel and spa! As we tend to care and love our lil doxies as our four legged relatives it helps to know they are happy and well cared for while we are away on vacation or work travel. Last year our family went to Hawaii and used a pet hotel in Escondido, which left one of our senior doxies with a massive anxiety. It took us about six months to calm her and heal her acid reflex that came with the anxiety. This year our family reluctantly went on vacation because we didn't want the same experience happen again for our lil one. So we searched and toured and to our surprise Countryside vet was just opening up a new wing, the Muddy Paw Pet hotel and spa :) so we gave it a try had a great experience!!! The staff was very helpful and understanding of our concerns and our dogs health and wellbeing. The hotel is clean with a huge well fenced front yard for the dogs to play in and do their business, etc... And best of all no more anxiety, whew! We have used them twice within a month and are very satisfied. read more

My dog LOVES to go to Muddy Paws Country Spa. She has a great time with the other dogs during "Day Care" and they take very good care of her while boarding. It gives me peace of mind to know she is having fun, is well cared for and her veterinarian is right there, if she needs more care. read more
