Surprised this location only has 3 stars! I've been here multiple times with no issues. The staff is helpful, and the store is well-stocked and organized. One thing to keep in mind--if you have a puppy, they may require additional vaccinations before services like nail clipping, which is understandable for safety reasons. Overall, every visit has been smooth. It's never too busy, and the crowd is always decent. No complaints! read more

Our Petco closed in Long Beach so we've been forced to go super far for our crickets for our bearded dragons but we figured it's okay, we can make it a fun little family trip. It was not fun. We asked for crickets and the gentleman at the front told us he didn't know if we could get them. I was like um, okay. So he called in his walkie talkie and I waited then asked if we were able to get them. He said he didn't know. WTH? So we're waiting and he says he assumed they could get them but wasn't sure. I say okay, can you ask? Also, can we please get eggcrate (we've done this for 6 years at our other Petco without a problem, it's normal) and he gets defensive and says that it's not up to him. Basically he had an argument to everything we said which was super weird because we're literally just trying to get crickets. Finally the crickets come! They're in a deflated bag with very little air (they will die very quickly if packaged that way) and no egg crate of course. Just a bummer experience all around. We went in happy and left sad and frustrated. Hope they can teach their staff better skills with the humans and animals. Maybe we were spoiled by being treated so well at our Long Beach location. This was a new difficult experience for us. Won't be going back to that location. read more

I love the vet team here. We use to take our dog here for grooming also but our main groomer had left and we tried to give someone else a chance. Needless to say that was a big mistake. DO NOT take your dog to Aaron unless you want him to absolutely botch your dog's hair cut. When expressing our frustration he called my husband "bro" and was very defensive claiming that his cut is the standard for the breed. We have a mini schnauzer and he shaved his beared all off. We could see his skin. Before and after pictures have been given. And to top it off, management was rude when addressing this situation. Tod, the manager, would always comment on our dog's beard when coming in and when we brought it to his attention he wouldn't even look at our dog and was very dry. Experienced a case of bad customer service that really frustrated me. I ordered ahead on the app for curbside and picked up later in day. When I arrived I parked in the nearest parking spot to the entrance because there are no designated curbside spots and the app says to park in safe place near the entrance. I watched the employee just stand there at the entrance unwilling to walk the item across to my car and just stand and stand there. They had a description of my car and my running lights were on signaling someone in the car. To me, this is pure laziness. So I got out of the car and walked inside to discover an item missing. I ordered cat food and cat litter. She said the food had been canceled because they were out of stock. I went to pick out some different food and low and beyond saw the EXACT bag I had ordered on the shelf. Same brand, flavor, size, exactly what I ordered. Frustrating! read more

Denied my dog for a shampoo, nail trim and teeth brush because she has diabetes and cushions disease.. what??? That is pretty much the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Had no idea that a bath has potential huge medical implications! Maybe I could see saying no on the nail trim, which I'd probably be ok with but straight up denying? LAME. Anyway, over petco.. they charge too much anyway and are clearly intelligence impaired. Tried to go into the store today to buy a little fish with my son. They said I'd have to have a tank with a filter for me to buy one. I didn't want to pay for a brand new tank and filter and started looking on fb marketplace. The employee told me I couldn't buy a fish until my tank was set up. When I explained I didn't want to come back and can purchase a temporary tank, she said I would kill it from transferring it to new water. I am reviewing on my most recent grooming experience with Severine (Sev). Upon arriving, Severine did not greet us with an inviting or welcoming tone. The intersection on Springdale and Warner were closed off so a few detours made us a couple mins late. I've been coming to Petco grooming for years as a Vital Care Premier member and the check-in process never took over 20 mins long. Sev proceeded to ask very intrusive questions like, "You haven't been seen since February... where have you been taking her? Have you been going to other mom and pop shops or where is she getting groomed?" Excuse me, but I groom and touch-up my own dog in between coming to Petco. She asked when was the last time she got a physical, how many times a week do I brush her, has she gotten a dental etc. I get that it's important to know medical history but her questions were formulated into interrogations and were very uncomfortable. I asked for the usual short body, round teddy bear face and booties on the legs. Just a trim on ears and tail. She told me she'd have to charge me $15 extra for scissor work which I was never charged for in the past. I only wanted regular nail trim but she told me there were notes from past grooming that my dog didn't like nail trims so she'll have to use nail grinders only which was an extra $18. I have never heard past Petco groomers say anything negative about her. She proceeded to tell me that normally for brachiocephalic breeds she would need to give them VIP treatment which would be $20 extra but since there's no other clients after my dog... she'll do it this time for free. (Okay not sure why she gave me attitude when I was a couple mins late prior). I have never heard of this potential VIP treatment charge before. Sev said she would text me as soon as my dog was ready and so I cruised around the area waiting for a text... a few hours past so I decided to go home. When I got home I received a call from Sev saying she wasn't sure if I got her text... but my dog, Mika, was ready since 3pm! What?! I checked my text messages and received nothing and the only call I got was the one I had answered. Mika had been pretty much waiting for me for 2 hours! Unbelievable! I got there and she rang up my tab and told me my total was $130! I've always paid around 68-88$ I asked her why was the total so high and she proceeded to tell me in an itemized fashion what was charged. I ran to my car to get my card and came back because my earned rewards wouldn't cover the total. She rang up the charges again and it was only $80 which includes her up charge for "scissor work and nail grind". She had double scanned one of the services on the ticket ... never apologized for it. Before leaving she told me she also skipped anal gland expression and said I should have a vet do it because she wasn't able to... ugh. She left me her business card and honestly this whole mess of a situation is enough for me to CANCEL my premier membership and take my business elsewhere. I would never tell anyone to take their pets here. Thanks to Sev... I AM DONE with Petco Grooming and will never be back. read more

Came in to purchase crickets for my Chameleon last night and was checking out their chameleons. One of their female veiled chameleons was on the ground, which is totally abnormal for chameleons. I watched her for awhile and she was scratching at the glass cage, also abnormal. I kept watching her and she fell over on her side with her eyes closed. I thought she had died. After a couple minutes she got up and stumbled around the cage, falling over multiple times. I told the guy who got me the crickets something was wrong with her and she needed a vet. He called his manager over. Her name is Courtney. I told her the chameleon was very sick and needed a vet. I told her I would take her home and take her to a vet and try to save her. Her response was "She's fine, we do hourly checks, this is normal" I told her she was absolutely wrong and she rolled her eyes and walked away from me. I took a video and will be contacting higher ups. Courtney clearly has no idea what she is talking about, and had an attitude when I tried to help her. There is no way that chameleon would have survived through the night without proper care. Care I'm sure it didn't receive. Their cages, husbandry and how they care for their chameleons is completely wrong. They have NO business selling these animals. Another female Cham in the same cage was obviously in its way out too, it was also on the ground. This is a sign something is wrong. Always. She just wasn't as sick at the one falling over constantly. Courtney needs to find a new job and come compassion. Petco needs to reevaluate selling animals they have no idea how to care for. This locations happens to be my neighborhood Petco (it's a couple of streets down from my house) and it saved the day today! My neighbors recently let me know that their furry babies have been having a hard time getting rid of fleas and some other neighbors have told me the same thing. So since it seems like fleas might be trying to take over the neighborhood, I went to petco for some fea treatment for my dog and also some flea treatment to protect the perimeter of my condo so that fleas can't hang out in my patios. The perimeter spray sold here is the kind of spray that you can attach to a hose and spray, forming a perimeter to protect your place and is sold for $34. The flea treatment that I got to prevent any fleas from getting on my dog is frontline plus for dogs between 45-88 pounds, this treatment is for 6 months and it cost $75, not bad (approximately $15/treatment). I also got my dog a couple of different canned Blue Buffalo wet dog food, some treats and a nerf frisbee that was on sale by the register for $12 (50% off). This is my favorite petco to come to for just about anything for my pup from blue buffalo grain free wet dog food, to treats for my fancy pup, to different types of toys (stuffed animals that squeak, toys that are indestructible, balls, frisbees), to flea treatments and prevention, to dog shampoos/conditioners and my personal favorite, dog clothes, ties and bandanas. There was only one time where the one thing that we came for was sold out, but good thing that was on a Wednesday because they restock on Thursday's. Can't wait to come back for something unique for my puppy, I really love buying him unique dog clothes here so he looks fancy and well dressed. My dog loves coming inside the store with me and go shopping to pick out a toy and the flavor of dog food/treats he'll be getting. The employees are always friendly here and he ends up getting treats from the employees about half the time we come here, I'd say he's a fan of coming here, too! read more

He immediately helped us right away to find an item "fly repellent" when the item was out of stock, he reassured us that we'd be able to order through the distribution center and clearly gave us help on how to do so. I have been disappointed time and time again by this Petco on Warner and Springdale. It is close to where I live, but I will not be shopping at this store ever again and I do not intend on shopping at Petco in the future. The leadership in the building is non existent. The store manager is arrogant, unapologetic and does not display any empathy for any given situation. The first situation was, we had signed our puppy up for training classes with an employee that no longer works there. After taking her to a few classes the trainer did not show up for one shift and then stopped showing up all together. When we went in to speak with the store manager about this situation and how disappointed we were and we just wanted a refund. The manager would not issue a refund and offered to complete the classes with another trainer. After arguing with us for several minutes she offered to start the classes over completely with another trainer. I understand that the policy is, "no refunds after the second class," however, the trainer not showing up for a class and then quitting all together and no showing is not our fault. We should not be penalized and have to switch trainers or start over because of an irresponsible employee. In THIS instance there should have been an exception made and a refund issued because this was at no fault of our own. We had every intention of completing the classes we had paid for with the trainer we had chosen. I must add, when we were forced to retake the classes with a new trainer, the first class was all talk and no training about this "new way" of training that they were just rolling out which was not explained to us. Overall, it was a terrible experience with the training program from start to finish and the fact that we had to ask the store manager if she was irritated while speaking with her because her body language, tone of voice and verbiage were showing us she was not interested in listening or helping us. The second situation happened today (4/20/2020). I have been searching all over town for specific food for my geriatric cat. I finally found the food I was looking for (TikaCat) and purchased it. When I got home, I opened it and left it on the counter and walked away for a few minutes. When I came back in my counter was COVERED in weevils. There were hundreds of them on the walls, on the floor, on the counter. EVERYWHERE. I realized they were coming out of the food as I glanced in the bag and they were crawling all over the food. I had given my cat a small portion and the bugs must have been at the bottom of the bag and started crawling about when I moved the bag. Luckily there were none on the food he ate. I immediately sealed up the bag, tied it in another plastic bag and went to return it. I spent the better part of my afternoon cleaning up these bugs as they kept appearing everywhere and am angry that because of the poor maintenance of this store that I was allowed to purchase a bag was that 3 months expired and crawling with bugs. Beth is the cashier that rang me up and did my return. While she is probably the only employee in that building that has excellent customer service and was very helpful, I was disappointed that she considered looking in the bag crawling with bugs as if i would come back after buying it 10 minutes prior if there wasn't something wrong. When I told her the bag had expired on February 1st (three months ago) and that she should have someone check the other food, she seemed like that may not happen because there wasn't anyone on the floor. If you are selling expired, rotten, bug infested food. You had better call your manager immediately to check the other product. Period. While I can appreciate that this is a difficult time, not being greeted by anyone in the building other than Beth when we are not going through a pandemic is unacceptable. Having leadership that is smug and unsympathetic when your job is to build trust and converse with your patrons that are trying to give their pets the best lives we can. Selling expired, infested food without the awareness of that could make animals sick or kill them is unacceptable. Do better. read more

I went in today to buy fish for my tank . I have a 10 gallon fish tank and wanted to buy 2 tiny tetras and the sales person there said she can't sell them to me because I have enough fish and if I add 2 more they will die . Refused to sell me the fish . Ridiculous. She was called an export. Y the manager ! Rule of thumb is one fish per gallon , however I only wanted a total of 5-6 small fish in my tank . None of her business how many fish I put in my tank by the way . Yea this happened and no there isn't more to this story . I went to Tongs which only sells aquariums , and tropical and salt water fish and they told me it was more than ok to buy more fish and said the same thing as everyone else that knows about fish tanks .. 1 fish per gallon especially if they are small and 6-8 fish was more than ok . I've had fish tanks my entire life over 40 years . To have a 20 something year old claim they are an export and refuse to sell me to tiny fish is silly . Bad for business ! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE TO GET GROOMED!!! People always warned me about taking my dogs here but I normally have a great experience.. I dropped my two dogs off at 10:40 AM, I was early but Cassie was ready for them. I went back at 3:30PM to check to see if they were hopefully done; I could see they were working on Wesley. The lady at the front asked me if I wanted to find out when she would be done, she came out told me that they would call me and she was running behind. She continued and asked me if I wanted to know if my other dog was done, I told her sure. So when she came back she told me they're finishing the one she has right now & then finishing the other one. At 5:15, I get a call saying the male dog was finished but the other one wasn't done & they can't discuss it over the phone... I rush over, the girl who was working the front & groomer were no where to be seen. A random worker comes up to me & asks if I'm here for the two. I say yes and she brings out the girl. First thought is WTF? Her hair was a mess she looks like she was in the streets!! You can tell she wasn't fully groomed. The lady told me to check her front left leg, I look and she has a DEEP GASH!! Then some other random lady at petco says "oh is this frankie? She was so good today we took her straight to the vet. " Then the other lady continued to tell me that's dog has to wear a cone again for two week and have this ointment put on her. Why this was upsetting? NO one called when it first happened, clearly Cassie had rushed bc the groomers are off at 5, they took her to the vet without my consent!! My dog had just been spayed a few weeks earlier and now she has to have a hard plastic cone put back on her?? They bring out my other dog who's hair cut was NOT finished either, one ear is shaved, the other ear has long hair still and his nails were so long!! It was frustrating since they had been there for SEVEN HOURS & I had checked a hour and half earlier to see if they were almost done. I would've way rather them say they didn't have time VS them rushing not finishing one and cutting another. I had called corporate, the lady I spoke too on the phone was understanding and upset when she heard this too. It was totally unacceptable!! We filled out a form over the phone & she told me they would get back to me within 24hours. (This was at 9am). The store manger Aimee called me the next day at 5pm & was SO RUDE. She had no sympathy for my dog, made it seem like it was my fault my dog got cut and was turning everything onto me. Unapologetic and horrible customer service. The way she spoke to me really had me confused as to why she's working at a pet store when she clearly couldn't give a shit what happened. These dogs are like my kids, If something happened to a child you'd get a phone call right away. Instead not one person reached out and made me drive anxiously to the store. I've lived in Huntington for 16 years I will never step back into this store again & will make sure that everyone I know also won't. This was awful awful experience!! read more

The Vetco staff here are phenomenal!! From the receptionist to the vets, everyone was so kind and professional. They took very good care of my 1 year old Shorkie like she was their own and got her ear infection diagnosed and cleaned in no time! I appreciate the way that they handled her so gently and really took the time to explain her after care to me. Be aware that it can be pricey though...came up to $200 for a simple sick visit with the ear infection diagnosis, cleaning, and medications. read more

This place use to be such a great store, I'm not sure what happened in the last year, but now it takes almost a half hour just to purchase something in store. I was very disappointed with the service I received. I went in yesterday around 2pm or so. Female cashier with long blonde hair in a ponytail was absolutely terrible. I wanted to get a bag there that had animals on it. I didn't know it was a $10 donation to purchase the bag. I decided not to get the bag. I was up to $75 and am on a budget. Hello, I would really appreciate the opportunity to report some mistreatment my wife and I received at this store from the manager and staff here on 9/9/2022 around 4 to 5pmish. I had to take my kids home crying without the guinea pig we promised them due to a credit card issue that the manager in his words said "we won't help you". We have a large family of animals and my girls earned a surprise for doing well in school.  My wife applied for the petco credit card and the website policy states that the card can be used same day of approval while awaiting the physical card. The employees told my wife she couldn't use the card unless she had the physical card with her. She polietly asked several times if they could simply look it up in their system considering it is a store card and this is a typical accommodation that most stores use. They did not ask her for her ID nor try to have her enter her social security number. She even showed them the policy on the Petco credit card website in hopes they might understand what she was wanting to do. The response was "I don't know why it says that, we can't do it." They made several attempts to get assistance from the manager who never showed up. They said " He said we can't do it" he never even came or tried though. If he simply didn't know how I would have accepted that answer. In my experience and professional career if I didn't know something or couldn't help someone I would at least acknowledge that fact and find them the answer, find someone who can help or point them in the right direction. Like even saying I'm sorry I can't help you without snarkyness. Here is the customer service number or please come back when someone who can help is here.......... Something other than making us feel like were bothering you.  The manager refused to acknowledge us. He only gave me attention after the employees making several attempts, when I approached him and asked him why he was refusing to help us or even acknowledge that there is som eone here asking for assistance. He proceeded to interrupt me & talk over me. I do not believe I was being aggressive. I was being assertive.  I interrupted back and ask him why he was trying to talk over me before I can even explain my issue. Then with sarcasm and sighs he started to apologize in a form of sassiness for lack of a better word. At this point I don't even believe he knew what I was trying to ask. It was closed door service. Ill admit at this point I did lose my patience. I promise I did not yell but I said "Will you please stop interrupting me and drop the  drop the f*****g sarcasm. I admit I shouldn't have swore. At this point he started yelling at me and pointing me to get out of "his store". I was upset and asked his name. Brandon. He is short, black curly hair in a bun.  I would really love it if I could speak to someone about me actual issue that I was having in the store. And a chance to share my story with someone above him. I admit I could have handled the situation better had I not lost my patience. I don't believe this excuses his behavior and or the girl at the register that he put in the hot seat. I could tell she was unhappy with that situation. The look on her face is the same look I used to get when operating under poor supervision.  Please if someone could reach out. I promise I'm not angry and won't be mean or impatient I just want someone to hear me and maybe let Brandon know that we both could have done better in this situation. It hurt receiving that treatment we just had a question and we're asking for help. My daughter was crying. I don't even write reviews or complaints. This got to me. There's no reason to be so mean. I've had the worst days of my life and hated everyone and still decide to treat people with kindness. Just because I'm having a bad day doesn't mean my family and peers have to suffer. I waited 20 minutes with my 3 year old son to buy a couple fish. Once an employee was available, I asked to buy a couple neon tetras. The frumpy Asian girl that was helping me (after she got off her phone) then interrogated me about my tank set-up. Now, I appreciate the fact that I'm purchasing live animals and the employee was making sure that I had properly set-up my tank. She was not happy with my aquarium setup and basically refused to sell me what I wanted. I'm sure she thought that my choice in fish would die immediately if I put them in my new tank. I currently own 4 tanks from 100 gal to 3.5 gal. I have owned at least 3 dozen tanks in my life and have kept aquarium fish for over 40 years. I actually own a fishing tackle shop as well. Fish are my livelihood. Instead of explaining my experience and knowledge of keeping aquarium fish alive and healthy to this very presumptuous employee I told a little fib and said that I would have to reconsider my choices and put back the few additional items I was to purchase. I didn't want to upset my son anymore after having to wait for so long and then being told he can't have the fish he picked out. We left and went to Tongs tropical fish on Warner and magnolia. They are the best. The Petco employee had a basic understanding of fish species and aquarium setups but can't compare to the people at tongs. My son got his neon tetras and it's all good! Basically go to Tongs and save yourself the headache if you're trying to get some aquarium pets! read more
