Dont understand why some people are so sensitive?! They will find every reason to complain . I worked in Customer Service for yrs and can say that those type, you can never make happy. I know when I take my dogs to get groomed, each package is posted with the list of services done. I was smart enough to also let them know not to clean my puppies ears as she had medication in them so I wasn't upset if they did so. Groomers cannot read your mind. I came in here last Thursday for cat litter and I left with 3 slimy new friends! I had been interested in adding an African dwarf frog to my aquarium for a while, but there were so many other interesting fish that I also left with a glass catfish and a cherry shrimp. But this review is really about Matt, who was so helpful and courteous. It got unexpectedly busy so he had to help a number of people at the same time, and he did so quickly and efficiently, while still making us all feel like we were the number 1 priority. He answered all my questions and wasn't afraid to ask other employees or consult the provided literature when he wasn't 100% sure about something, which made me confident in my purchase. He helped me pick out the right food for my little froggy friend, and I also left with a tiny rock formation. The woman who helped me out was also very helpful, and even called another store for information, but I can't remember her name unfortunately. Extremely expensive with limited items to suit my needs. Many items were not even marked with prices and the guy at the counter seemed annoyed when I asked for the pricing. While I paced up and down the isles looking for a specific item, no one attempted to help me and, in fact, seemed to be avoiding me. They do offer a matching deal. Bring in your cell with the scanner app. Scan the barcode of the item you want. If you find it cheaper, show them the website and they will match it. I have experienced better! read more

We took our Miniature Schnauzer for grooming with Jodi. She spent time before the appointment discussing Pepper's skin and coat challenges and she recommended several treatments to ease the problem. I've been coming her for grooming for almost two years now. Since this summer I have been having and issue with one particular groomer, Cassandra. I have a small Maltese poodle that is very kind. She claims my dog is vicious and a threat to groom. All of the other groomers have never said any issues. At a certain point you can't blame the dog, it's the groomer, in this case Cassandra. Today, she bathed the dog, did not groom him, and she charged me full price for not doing her job!! On top of that when she finished her "work" she never called to notify me to pick him up. She made him sit in a cage for an unnecessary amount of time to put the dog through more trauma. I even spoke to the manager, Amy. Her only concern was that her groomer doesn't get bitten. Amy should focus on customer service and care to clients, she should probably not be a manager, she isn't cut out for the job just like Cassandra should not be a groomer. If I could give zero stars I would. Do not waste your time and money here!!!! Go somewhere else for pet grooming. read more

This place is disgusting! During the Covid 19 I drove by semi late afternoon for dog food and 4-5 employees are standing at the entrance smoking right over the front door. So much so that I thought they were closing, then I see customers having to walk through all the second hand smoke just to get through the door. Poor management on their part. The next day I drive back after skipping going in the night before and there are no additional sanitizer stations anywhere! What the hell is going on with this place absolutely disgusting!!!! Long story short, before I knew it a dog trainer by he name of JJ quickly noticed a possible Riot of angry customers and believe me, we were very upset, promptly took control of the situation and started moving the line from a stopped and hostile atmosphere to a "thank God something is happening so we can get out of here!" I was just in your store at 5961 Warner Ave, HB, CA. I never leave reviews because I don't like to talk bad about people but this was ridiculous. And then you can't even leave a review on the PetCo site. I don't hear on the phone and can not 'call'. Today, the cashier was Michelle. We stood at the place to be called up for a full five min while she talked to a co-worker about who knows what and never even looked over. Then she finally called us up, no apology, just every day for her I guess. Every time I go into a Petco, I give a $10.00 donation. All other Petco's always say thank you and would you like a gift. This lady completely ignored the extra gift because she was still chatting with her co-worker. I finally asked about the 'gift' and she was rude about it and said she knew nothing about it. From now on I will visit the Petco on the other side of HB because this is the third time in this Petco that the employees at the cash register have been just totally rude. Worst experience with our dog. We set a grooming appt. for June 7th we asked if we could change time I said could not do they time but could do this week? They asked for May 31st at 930 I said no we are on a vacation trip until the afternoon so they said 1 and I said I could do 130 and they said fine. I show up at 120 and they said your appt. was for 1, I said no 130 and they told me it doesnt matter your groomer called off! I said why didnt someone tell me they called off? And then I asked if I would of arrived at 1PM could they of taken care of my dog? they said no you would need to reschedule...Terrible! read more

While I don't usually post negative reviews, the time has come. I have been taking my dog, Gracie, to be. groomed at the Petco on Warner Ave for 11 years. She is a big dog and requires some work. Today was the last straw. She is almost always done in about 2 to 2.5 hours, today it was approaching 3 hours. I. tried to call and for 30 minutes as not able to reach anyone in Grooming or the actual store. I finally decided to call the vet in the store and the receptionist, Stephany, was at least able to let me know that there were groomers working on dogs and a cashier. She wasn't sure why no one was answering the phones. I told her my dog that been in grooming for 3 1/2 hours. She suggested I come in and check personally. I tried one more time to reach Grooming and no luck. I drove to store, went back to Grooming. I stood waiting for at least 5 minutes while one of the groomers worked on another dog, not even bothering to ask me if I needed something. I finally said, I need to get my dog now. I don't care if she's ready or not. She got the other groomer who came out and said he was sorry but she took a long time. We are now at 4 hours. The grooming at Petco on Warner Ave in Huntington Beach has been declining. Prior to the pandemic, it was exceptional for a pet store. Cassidy, the groomer that always worked on Gracie was amazing. I will not be returning to Petco in the future. This was my last visit. read more

I rarely write reviews. But I left a review for this Petco last year....and it must have been my mistake that I don't see it posted somehow... maybe I neglected to post it before logging out. Anyways, my experience with this store has been great and I'm making an effort to repost my thoughts again. I live about 1-1/2 hours from this Petco. There are plenty of other Petco's in between. I came to this store by random chance when I was driving through the area couple of years ago. I knew most stores only keep 1 to 2 buckets of aquarium salt in stock. Any additional buckets will need to wait until restocked the following week. I have asked stores closer to me to order additional salt for me. However, the usual responses I receive are either, that we are not interested or we don't process special orders. At this store, I was greeted with courtesy when I explain what I needed to Predi, the manager. She took her time to write down everything I wanted and told me she will call me back to confirm the availability and ETA with the special order. As promised, Predi called me back two days later and told me when the salt will arrive at the store. Predi wasn't working on the day when I came back to the store for pickup. However, she had already mentioned it to other sales associates. And the salt are already put on carts ready for me. As I push the carts out, a young salesperson, volunteered to help me load the salt into my truck. You would think this is standard customer service as expected. However, I don't know how many times had I experience sales associates from big-box stores "pretending not to see you", so they can do less work. I saw this as good management leadership trickling down to good working ethics as shown in their sales' attitude. The following day, Predi even called me to make sure I was happy with my order. That's definitely great customer service to me. I'm hooked on the great service since and yearly I order about 15-20 buckets of salt from this store. I see lots of unfavorable posts for Petco stores throughout LA. I think most of them aim toward services customers receive toward dog training or grooming. I don't have experience with these offered services here. But seeing how they handled all my orders every time I came by, I don't expect any less than courtesy service. The sales at these big stores are usually young, maybe high school kids. The turnaround for new workers is probably very high. Lots of them don't care nor pay attention to understand the importance of returning customers for a business. This is probably why lots of stores get negative reviews from customers' experiences. With this store, I experience the management's willingness to do what's needed to keep customers satisfied. This is enough for me to keep coming back to support the store. read more

I've been bringing my dog to other petco locations and have never had an issue until today. I brought her in to get her nails clipped, a simple job for most groomers. At other locations, the stylist usually got to know my dog and gains her trust before reaching in and grabbing her legs. At this location she just reaches and grabs 1 paw and it's okay but then tries to yank her next paw to check her nails and naturally she's scared and barks once and sits down. The lady stands up and says that she's unable to continue because she shows signs of aggression. Like really? Terrible training on her part to not do something so simple first. I understand maybe the groomer was scared too but lack of proper training in a situation like this Never coming back here even if it's close to where I live read more

Came to this petco last week to get some cat stuff. As I was in line there was only one cashier by the name of Natalie. Natalie was helping an elderly woman get into her phone and was so unbelievably patient and kind to the elderly woman. The line of people behind me was getting a bit long however Natalie handled the pressure very well. Once she was able to help the elderly woman she then helped me and I told her she handled the situation so well. She then let me know that she was new and I told her I had to let her manager or whoever was in charge to keep her because you can teach policies and the basics of any job however you cannot teach the level of empathy, kindness, professionalism and patience that Natalie had during that situation. read more

This is about the grooming manager only. GET HER A SET OF EARS. My GF brought in our red Golden Doodle, who had 5-6" long hair this morning, for a shampoo, and face trim. She was told to leave the length. This is a spectacularly CURLY dog. She cut his hair down to 1", and then tried to explain that this was a long doodle cut. What an idiot!!!!!!! It will take months to get the dog back to it's previous length. After complaining, Petco decided not to charge us. They are so lucky I didn't sue them. (State Bar #102602.) read more

The service at this place is terrible!! I've only been here twice. Visit number one: I went here and got a bigger fish tank. if you had one of those petco cards, the fish tank would have been cheaper... so i go to buy the thing and the girl doesn't say anything about a card, so i had to ask her if i could sign up for a card, and she didn't say anything just handed me the paper to fill out... i thought she might have been mute, but she did tell me how much i owed for the tank, so i guess she wasn't. Visit number two: i went to buy more fish to add to my now bigger tank... my roomy and i hung out in the fish area for a long time, no one came, we decided on the fish and i went and told one of the girls at the cash registers to send someone to the fish area... waited waited... nothing. all the idiots at the registers could see us in the fish section but no one did anything. so i go back to the girl at the register to see if i can refresh her memory, she looks at me like what do you want, and i remind her FISH!! then go back to the fish aisle... waited waited waited... nothing. so we left with no fish!! this place needs to hire some people who are helpful and don't look like they're being forced to "work" there. they all looked so miserable... never going back! take that petco! i always liked petsmart more anyways :P read more

Don't take your pet here for grooming. My wife made an appointment for grooming of our young Yorkie, and upon arriving the groomer said "she didn't have time" to brush out the knots in his hair and that doing so would hurt him. She actually said that he needed to be shaved! My wife, after declining this advice, took our dog to a private grooming shop nearby and they brushed all the tangles out of his hair in less than 20 minutes, for free. This is consistent with the other services we have sought from this Petco and the one in Westminster. At that one, we signed up for 6 weeks of training sessions. On the second session the trainer was late and only spent 20 minutes with us, and on the third session he had called in sick and never showed. The employees at Petco seem very uniformed about pet care and don't seem to care about the animals they are supposed to be taking care of. read more

This review is for Vetco at Petco. I took my kitten here to get his second round of vaccinations. It would have cost at least 140 at my vet, but Vetco was only 83. That's a lot of saved money! Vetco was going on from 10:00 to 11:30 and I got there around 10:50. There was a long line of dogs, cats, and even a pet rat. I waited until about 11:30 to get my kitty vaccinated. While I waited in line a dog took a big dump and no one cleaned it up for at least 10 minutes...then another dog took a dump but at least the owner cleaned it. The vaccination and paperwork itself was quick. Definitely come here early if you don't want to wait in a huge long line, but if you do at least you can check out some cute puppies and kitties in line while you wait. read more

There were no meal worms in the fridge so I asked if I could get some that were sitting on the floor and not refrigerated the way there supposed to, the cashier Adam took his sweet time to walk over and start to open the boxes and a white woman walks in and walks over to help with her door dash order and stops helping my mom and I.. then I asked if he could call someone to help him.. he says no because it's going to take just as long as him. Then he calls his store manager and she walks over and takes her sweet time to get the worms out that have been sitting out for a while at this point, she is so annoyed and on purpose being rude, it's like they hate their jobs or something or don't like helping people of color like my self and my mom. Horrible customer service from a bitter women who introduced herself as the store manager. Predi was her name I think? Spent $70 on product, half of which was for my mother *an employee of Petco*. Have used her employee number for items with no problem before and if they didn't allow it, the associate would POLITELY let me know and we would continue with the transaction like normal without it. That did NOT happen in this case. The manager rudely said I'm not allowed even though I was buying FOR MY MOM and proceeded to huff and puff her way through the checkout. I politely said if it's too much trouble or if it was going to get her in trouble just forget it and she replied with tons of attitude, "if I were you I wouldn't she's not allowed to do that but I'll do it" all while rolling her eyes at my girlfriend and I who handled the situation way better than I wanted too with the service I received. I wandered the aisles for 15 minutes with no one asking if I needed help finding what I was looking for. Well I visit this Petco occasionally, just because it's close to where I live and I'm too lazy to drive down to Pet Feed and Supply or to Pet Supply. Of course this is only to browse for toys - I only buy food from the aforementioned places since they carry what I want and Petco/Petsmart does not. This place has a rather large selection of toys. It seems to be a trend at every Petco I've been to, which is very nice. I usually bring Pookie with me because I just like to take her around if I can to socialize her. The staff are all nice, but somewhat lacking in providing assistance, not that I need any, but others might. Oh, I was conned into taking pet pictures last time I went with the free 5x7 lure!! :o I ended up buying a pack of pictures! Not that I mind, since Pookie looked so cute :) BUT BEWARE THE FREE PHOTO LURE! haha. read more
