Visited this location over the summer with our little pug. It was 100 degrees outside and we wanted to find a pet store to stroll through and cool down. Upon entering, this location seemed very spacious. However, the lighting was extremely dim. It felt like a warehouse. The aisles seem a bit disorganized and there were areas where dust was just building. It was not the cleanest pet store. We honestly had an okay experience here. The dimmed lights made us feel a bit low in spirits so we left sooner than we had hoped. Again, this visit was from this past summer so we hope that there's been some improvements since. read more

This review is for the Vetco section only. I brought my cat to have her anal glands relieved and when I picked her up the liquid was all over her bottom and her hind legs. If anyone has smelt this smell you know how atrocious it is. It is also oily and has caked to her fur. It's been a week of trying to get it off to no avail. I will never bring my cat here and warn everyone to avoid this place at all costs. They will take your money gladly and provide the bare minimum of service. read more

This location is pretty big for being in a Plaza. Most Petco's are in a stand-alone building. It's located on the Irvine Center Dr. side of the Culver Plaza and easy to find once you get into the parking lot. The interior is clean and nicely laid out with plenty of room for pets to walk around (enough room for a horse to walk around in some of the aisles). Product can easily be located with signage and just looking around. The products are not stacked so high you can't see anywhere, which is a nice change compared to other pet stores. The staff were helpful and courteous. But the phone kept ringing for the groomer who was busy in the back. Oh! The groomers are located at the rear of the store and there was only 1 here the night we visited. This store carries fish, hamsters, cats, some dogs, and smaller animals, but no snakes or large dogs (go figure, right?). I've been to other Petcos and pet stores that have more variety and inventory of animals available, but for some reason, this store did not have much. I've been getting all me pets stuff in this store. The other day , I met Nisrin at the store. She saw me carried two giant bags of dog food without cart. She was very nice and sweet to let me go through a short cut. At mean time. She and Albert who provided me with tech support to use possible points and coupon to see if I could save more. They are very thoughtful and sweet. Not sure how to pay them back with the same support but I want to say thank to them for everything they do. Nothing is wrong. I was shopping and stopped for about 2 minutes to listen to Michelle because she was saying something about how well her own dog behaves. THIS IS FOR THE VETCO INSIDE DO NOT GO HERE! During my last visit, I encountered employees who were not just unhelpful but outright rude. It seemed as though answering questions or providing basic assistance was too much to ask for. The indifference and lack of empathy shown by the staff were shocking, to say the least. Such behavior is not only unprofessional but also creates a hostile environment for pet owners who are already stressed about their pets' health. Moreover, the customer service has hit rock bottom. Issues ranging from scheduling appointments to getting through on the phone have become tedious tasks. There seems to be a complete disregard for loyal customers, who, like myself, having brought another pet to be neutered not even three weeks before, entrust the health of our pets to their care. Perhaps most concerning is the noticeable decline in attention to the pets themselves. I felt that my pet was not given the care and attention they deserved. The front desk lady was extremely condescending and let it be known multiple times that our conversation was cutting into her lunch. A not even 30 second long conversation to check in my pet for his appointment of all things. Why not just grab someone else to assist then? if i could rate this place a 0 i would. i tried to put my dog for a grooming but they just simply refused saying they couldn't because his fur was tangled when literally I've seen other dogs with tangled fur get admitted and treated very well with kisses and stuff from the staff. the main groomer/stylist (i think she's the manager) always looked at my dog very annoyingly like she wished we didn't come here. petco might say that they always strive for the best customer service or whatever blah blah blah but that's just words. their service is clearly not up to par. i really hope they change their staff soon because i cannot put up with that one groomer. and another thing too, after being refused service, i tried to book an appointment at another petco and they refused me by saying that the irvine petco called them in advance and said not to give us service because our dog was misbehaving. so now, i don't have anywhere to groom my dog. thanks a lot petco read more

Jacob is a wonderful cashier. He cares so much about your animals, will always take the time to say hello to them. He did not rush me when I had questions about the puppy/dog training classes. Jacob suggested I sign up for the package deal and save some money. Michelle is a fantastic trainer. I have been in four of Michelle's classes (2 puppy and 2 adult dog). She understands dog behavior. I know that she is constantly going to conferences and learning the latest techniques. Michelle anticipates what's going to happen and is at least a few steps ahead. I was very excited to bring my puppy here for her first haircut, the lady Kayla was very nice and offered me to bring my puppy to have the students practice on her. I was okay with this because I totally believe students need to practice in order to become good. The thing that upset me was when I went to pick my puppy up she had a very noticeable cut on her inner thigh, I immediately said something and Kayla asked the students what had happened.... the students denied cutting her and said this was due to my dog biting herself.... this clearly was not true because it was not there before nor does it look like a bite. I even had my vet check it out when I brought her in for her checkup and he confirmed it was not self inflicted and it in fact was due to the haircut. I wouldn't have minded the cut if they had admitted to it, because I'm a very understanding person and I know she's a puppy and they are students so yes accidents happen and it's okay. The fact that they denied it and tried to blame it on the puppy, is what frustrates me the most and I regret having spent my money there. Kayla did try to reach me a few weeks later via telephone to follow up and see how my puppy was doing, which I appreciate. But still would've wished they could've owned up to their mistake instead of trying to cover it up. read more

I went to Petco to purchase a plaype for my puppy. I also purchased a few toys, grooming supplies, and a few other item. when I looked around there was no one to be seen other than the young woman at the cash register. I was able to find a young man that was willing to help me with the playpens and he was kind and very helpful. he brought the item to the front for me and then I went to check out, paid, asked for assistance in loading the playpen in my cart, and the young lady laughed and said "no, I'm sorry I have a line." being that I have little to no mobility in my right arm and hand and is clearly visible this was disturbing to say the least. Instead of helping a customer with a cricket's purchase, the manager found it more important to tend to a display setup, having the cashier leave his station to retrieve the crcrickets, waiting time 15 minutes. Everyone closes at 9pm and this store even though advertises that they open until 9pm the employees control when they want to close the store. A few time we get there before 8pm and they lock the doors and tell us business is slow so they decided to close earlier. So less and less angry customers go to the store and they can close earlier and earlier. They might as well close the store if they do not want to work. These people have no work ethics and make a bad name for the store. Please close store according to your advertised schedule. I have been to this store probably a handful of times... When I try to get errands done on my lunch break during the week. They have a decent amount of cat toys, which my cat never NEEDS, but always gets. Today, I bought two big boxes of cat litter and the cashier offered to help me to my car, which I appreciated. It seemed like that annoyed what I think was his manager, but its awesome customer service and I appreciated it! I asked if they accepted queen size comforters as donations, since I had two in my trunk that the shelter wouldnt take. They did, so when he helped me out with the litter, I gave him the bag of donations. It makes me happy some kitties will get to snuggle and be warm and comfy on my bedding I no longer need. ( Vetco ), so when me and my husband enter He took a cart so we put our dogs in the cart and there were two workers by the cashier working on something, one man and a woman, I saw the woman looking at us when we put our dog in the cart but She did not say anything, I saw Her and the guy went in the back of store I think they put away something, then this lady worker came back to the front and went to me straight and said we can not put the dog in the cart without cover pad or anything ( lady you should have said that the moment you saw me when we enter the store putting the dog in the cart ) so I said we always come in this store and never heard any worker telling us that there should be a cover to be able to put the dogs in the cart , we started arguing and She said why am I upset it's just for my dogs protection and I heard Her say a lot of times that She is the one that run that store, well you are not a good worker to run that store because none of the workers know about that policy, everybody should know about that policy that you are talking about ( put cover in the cart ) , like what I said I've been to different stores Petco or Petsmart none of the workers approach us and said to put cover like a pad in the cart to be able to put or dog inside the cart, if this is really a company policy like what this worker said to me Her name was Dana anyway , all employees should be on the same page, not only this one worker, I get what you are trying to say that it's for my dogs protection but my point is why is it that only you know about this company policy? and not other workers? Wow, BROOKE (store manager). I want to say worst customer service ever but I guess I have had worse. Regardless, came into the store to get a copy of a receipt for reimbursement purposes. Called in advance but no one ever answers here and if they do, they hang up right away (understaffed or rude?). So I asked if they can print a receipt from a previous purchase 4 weeks earlier. The first person (not Brooke) tried to help but didn't have authority to look back so far. So he called Brooke. She said she recognized me from making many purchases before...this was my second time in this store to buy something. Anyway when I told her I needed a copy of my receipt she says "so you lost your receipt?" With the tone of ..."so because of you, I have to do work". Then she looked at the computer to find my purchase but was unable to. I asked what the issue might be as to why she couldn't locate it... at which point she said, "it looks like fraud"...implying a stole something! Wow. She seemed to have a difficult time understanding things. So I asked how I could get my receipt and she said "you can call corporate". So I asked for their number and she then said (again with that lovely attitude) ..."well, you can look it up on google". Wow again. So pretty poor attitude there, Brooke. Poor service, Brooke. Petco's these days are hit or miss, I usually go to the Santa Ana (Bristol) location but wanted to try another one out. Taryn helped us in aquatics and the fish we wanted got his fin stuck in the net while she was trying to take him out for us. He was so delicate that she couldn't get the fin out and she was trying for a good 15-20 minutes. She was being so gentle and careful not to damage him but nothing was working. Then all of a sudden we hear loudly from the front of the store a lady yell "Taryn I need you in the front, if they want a specific fish they can come back tomorrow!". Um this seemed a bit aggressive and rude. Taryn said hold on and continued to try to free the fish. At this point we were invested and it was almost like watching fish surgery to try to free him, but she finally got him out! At the front I made sure to mention how nice and patient Taryn was but Star, the manager who yelled, didn't seem to care. All she cared about was asking Taryn to get some crickets that she was too lazy to get herself. She was extremely rude and dismissive and clearly doesn't care for the stores animals/fish or her employees. Kudos to Taryn for going above and beyond to help save this little catfish. I would've rated this 1-star based solely on my poor interaction with Star, but Taryn earned a couple more stars (no pun intended). 5 stars for Michele the trainer who our doggies have went to in the past. And also for the store for convenience to pick up supplies 2 stars goes to the groomers. We took our two Pomeranians in for a bath and haircut for 50 bucks each (total 100) and they only got a bath and dry and no haircut at all. no nail cutting, hair trimming on feet or their butt area.Their hair wasn't brushed on one of the dogs. This was the Monday before Thanksgiving and we were on the road for a family trip and had no time to go back and argue this when picking up the dogs but this was the first time ever to see this kind of bad work. I even tipped the groomers 10 each before I realized this. I've taken one of our Pomeranians before in the past and they always at least trim all the extra fur all over his paws and clip the nails. I will never go back to get grooming here ever again. read more

I've been a loyal customer to this particular Petco for more than 20 years and the staff change these last 6 months has been absolutely terrible enough for me to write a review. After speaking with associates at other Petco locations, there seems to be a sudden shortage of staff at this Petco which lead to temporary hiring of interim (not long term) employees. Since then, the quality of work (especially when it comes to completing Online-Pickup orders or updating the stock inventory) and customer service has become abysmal. I understand that working in this retail/service industry, like any other job, leaves you vulnerable to the opinions of your customers, but that's the lifeline of your business and success as an individual. There's nothing we can do as customers besides waiting in the checkout line for more than 15-20 minutes at times and write reviews for upper management or PR to review, but I hope this wouldn't be the case. If Petco needed to raise or provide better incentives to maintain the staff that's been dedicated and steadfast in their customer service and knowledge, they should've done that as the quality of service has changed enough to lower their business standards and potential. read more
