Filthy store! There's stuff everywhere and I'm afraid to bring my dogs, they might step on something or catch something or hurt themselves or eat something they shouldn't! We waited over 15 mins in line to buy treats. This is ridiculous and was told to check the new vet. We did. The receptionist is incredibly rude and started bad mouthing all the vets in the Irvine area saying that petco is doing everything by the book! And we do it right. They're all wrong. I can only write about small animal department at this location. I read some of negative reviews but my experience was petty good. I called 4 Petco and 4 Petsmart in OC before I visited the stores. 3 out of 4 Petco answered my call and 0 Petsmart answered my call. This Petco had female Hamster and the customer service over the phone was very polite and nice. So I went here and store was pretty clean and Hamster cage looked clean and each had enough foods. They also use plastic wheel unlike Petsmart that uses wire wheel which holes are big for dwarf hamster to run and I heard wire wheel can easily injure dwarf hamster. So I was happy to see Petco used plastic wheel. I didn't purchase Hamster at this time but I plan to go back this location to check more Hamsters later. read more

I made an appointment /Thrive vet at 1:30/4/27th - at lease 2 weeks ago to get vaccines for my new puppy. I went there at 1:30, on time, on 4/27 The lady at the front had a terrible attitude. She did no greet me first, but told me I should have used the should side door, not from Petco in the front door ! Also, I told her I had an appointment at 1:30 today. She told me I should have called to confirm first ! I said I did make an appointment. Also I confirmed on 4/20 when I brought my puppy last week at 3 pm on 4/20 . She said I should have called to confirm first yesterday. I don't understand why I needed to confirm again as I already confirmed. I already came in and confirmed on 4/20 to check with the front lady last week ! She told me it not her. We are a different shift !! Then she can't find my puppy info on their computer .. she wants me to refill my puppy info again. I told her it should all be on the computer . She said today doctors are different from last week , I asked her about the vaccines. questions: what kind of vaccines will my puppy get today? She didn't not know so she asked my vaccines report info. I showed her. She then informed me it will take 2 shots today. I said No. Last week the doctor told me one shot for 4/27 which is today. She said that it is a different doctor today from last week. She spoke to me rudely and had no patients to answer my questions. I feel she just work there with no passion for her job ! she told me your puppy will have 2 shots today. In my mind I feel I am not comfortable to drop my puppy to them as 2 vaccines in 1 day when I was previously told 1 on that date e and 1 a week later. My puppy was scheduled for vaccine - Bordetella 4/27, and a month later should be is vaccine -rabies for my puppy. But she told me my puppy will get both vaccines (bordetella and rabies ) together. If I could leave a negative point review for the grooming staff in this Petco I would do this. They are not friendly at all with the pets and I am wondering if someone would not like to deal with the pets why they choose to work in grooming. I have taken my dog to this Petco twice since it was close to our home. First time they did not cut and polish the nails of one hand and we noticed once we came back home. We took her again to Petco and they declined and asked to come next time. Second time they claimed our dog did not let them expressing the anal glands saying she was trying to bite them. I have taken my dog for 3 years to other Petco grooming services and they were not only claiming the same but always happy how nice and calm she was during the grooming and anal gland expression. Once we complained and ask them to try it again they have taken my dog to backside and five seconds they came back claiming the same. That was obvious they did not do anything since 5 seconds is not enough to even put on gloves and make the pet ready for it. We were very disappointed and told them we will leave review for their poor service and unprofessional jobs and we have learned recently that they left a note on my dog account in Petco that she is trying to bite for expressing anal glands. This is all despite we took our dog to her vet to check if there is a problem with her anal gland after that and the vet said all was fine. My coworkers and I came here during our lunch break to buy some critters to clean up our fish tanks. Their selection wasn't that big, but I went with a common pleco and my coworker went with two zebra snails. Both were very reasonably priced. The girl that helped us was very nice, friendly, and helpful. They also had some nice looking firemouth cichlids that I would've gotten if my tank didn't already have some cichlids. Went to Petco to buy a harness and leash because I saw that it was on sale. I went in the store and they would not honor the discount. She told me that the harness was just on sale. I had to physically show her on my phone that they were both on sale. The manger told me I would have to order it on my phone and pick it up in the store. BAD GROOMER!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE FOR GROOMING! My dog has been with Petco for years and this is the first time I took him to this location because we had to move. The groomer name Jennifer did not completely dry my dog when I specified in the phone asking is my dog completely dried. She had a really BAD ATTITUDE when I talk to her about this issue. When I mentioned he was washed perfectly at another location she even said "Then take him elsewhere!" and gave me the look. When I speak to the assistant manager about this he also had no idea how to work with the system and tell me to wait at the counter for over half an hour. Do not come here. Great experience with the dog grooming service. Our husky went in for a bath and deshedding. The groomer took great care of him and did an amazing job. He can be a handful getting baths. When we came back he was very happy and we could tell he liked the groomer. We had taken him to other places in the past and when we picked him up we could tell he had not enjoyed it. If I could give this location 0 stars or negative stars, I totally would. Look, I understand if places are short staffed and training is lacking. However, this place either takes forever to process online orders where you have to call and then they process it. Or when you get there to pick it up, it takes forever and a day to even get your order. Even someone admitted to my husband that they are short staffed and the new people they get and have, if they cannot find the item at all, they will just mark as out of stock. This has happened more than a couple occasions and to be completely honest, I don't know how all the items are "out of stock." This absolutely sucks when you need your pets needs fulfilled. I am absolutely not one to complain right away because I TRY my hardest to understand the situation BUT man oh man, when stuff like this happens CONSTANTLY, it just cannot be looked over. Larger location that also offers grooming and training services for pets and owners! This location carries all of the major brands and also offer a loyalty program that often sends me coupons in the mail. I like to come here to pick up basic necessities like food but have stopped shopping for things like toys and equipment, the reason being that their selection hardly changes and I constantly see the same toys being restocked year after year. I've found myself starting to explore other online spaces that offer a wider assortment of toys and equipment like food bowls. One thing I've noticed a few times while walking around Petco was the harsh ways the dog trainers would speak to the new pet owners during classes. Many of these new dog owners were nervous or didn't know how to interact with their dogs yet, but the trainers would snap at them and create such an unloving environment. Even when I go to visit the kittens that are open for adoption, the trainer there is always quick to chastise us for getting too close, and I've seen many curious children turn away from playing with these lonely kittens due to that same interaction. I would love if the pet store became a more friendly place that pet owners would feel comfortable bringing their pets for a walk or to play! read more

Petco's grooming department is so incompetent they don't even deserve one star. Don't ever bring your pets there for grooming. Today's is one of the worst days of my life. Brought my 2 year old dog Daisy in for grooming including ear cleaning. It's our first time using Petco for grooming service. Discussed the expecatations with the grooming staff: since it's the middle of a cold winter, we'd like to keep the hair long and stick with the bear cut style. However, Daisy went in a bear and came out a chihuahua with a completely shaved body despite our clear and deliberate instrutions. Not only that, the ears had no signs of cleaning, the cuts were so rough and uneven even I can do a better job at home. It's clear to me the groomer is not a professional. After we went home Daisy went into complete withdrawal. I'm so angry and sad and compelled to write this review. The temperature is in the 50's how does Daisy go out to play with no hair on her. The employees are wonderful but the gm and especially the assistant manager, Star, are rude and disrespectful. I was shocked. My dog had a bath appointment about 2 weeks ago, and we were few minutes behind to make it. I called the petco location in poway san diego (where I booked an appointment) and told them I will be late for 15 mins. They said it is fine and just came over and they would let the groomer know. When I got there, they didn't let me in. The manager of the salon was so rude, and instead of apologizing, she kept saying that she couldn't let me in. She just told me that I was late 2 other times before as well. I told them I won't ever book a grooming with their salon. but the worst part is here, when I came out of salon, I called another Petco to book an appointment and what happened was the booking person told me that I am not in the system and apparently, I was kicked out the system of booking forever from Petco. I came in with my appointment for Mia with very vague descriptions of the trim I wanted for her but our stylist Jerri Ann was quick to offer suggestions for Mia. Jerri Ann was comforting and caring with my pup from the moment we were greeted to the moment we left for the day. I could not have been more satisfied. I appreciated the festive bows that she styled Mia with. We even received a report card for Mia's stay which was cute and thoughtful touch. Honestly, I never go to pet stores and haven't for a long time. I walked in here the other day because I saw adoptions outside and was reminded of why. Service (especially at this location) is lacking. Additionally, the price and quality of products (at least for small companions like rabbits and guinea pigs) are overpriced. I can get better quality hay and pellets elsewhere, while supporting local businesses and rescues. I normally get my hay from The Feed Barn. Pellets from The Bunny Bunch OC (they also have toys, or access to cheap ones that are small companion friendly). That being said, this store is a pretty decent size. Not sure if it is an illusion because there's always a low population density in here. Also, I asked for a staff's opinion on something guinea pig related once and realized just how little these people actually know about their true customers (the pets)! I did manage to find some feeder minows but not the guppies I was looking for. The minows are larger than the guppies so I wasn't sure if the turtles would eat them. I got 5 at 12 cents each (what a bargain) to just check it out first before buying more. There seemed to be so many staff members standing around in one area chatting. One did take the initiative to help and was even more helpful when he offered to pick out the smaller minows for me. If the turtles eat them I'll be back. Otherwise they may die of starvation before I find something they'll eat. I have no clue why I got stuck with some fussy-ass turtles. Date of groom service: 02/27/18 If possible... I'd give this Petco negative 5 stars. Worst groom ever!!! Completely unacceptable... Please retrain your groomers and cashier ladies. Both of them had no idea why the "shave brushout scissoring" charge was separate from the full service premium package. From what I recall, it was included. The cashier lady said, sorry I have no idea, I then asked my dog's groomer, groomer said she had no idea either, that it was the way it was charged she guesses. I didn't want to spend anymore time asking more clueless workers, so I let that one slide. Not to mention, I asked the groomer to use her own styling judgement and she gave my dog a summer cut... It's winter weather! Did she mess up and decide to just default to a summer cut?! I specifically said, please don't shave her body hair completely... but to use good styling judgement. Also, horrible nail grind/buffering... it was rigid, still chipped here and there... her nails were not smooth at all. We visited this location for the first time on Saturday afternoon for an adoption event hosted by CARMA. The store itself is a large space, very clean, with wide aisles and merchandise mostly set up along the perimeter. Not a huge selection of animals (unless you want fish). I did see a tank of relatively active turtles, one cage near the front entrance with an anxious hamster burying himself in wood shavings, and maybe six parakeets in one enclosure. No dogs. They do have a gated area for dog training, though. The rescue animals were sequestered off to the side in a small-ish area past the cash registers. Not much room to manuever and no enclosed room where you could get to know/see the cat's personality and behavior one-on-one. All animals stayed in their cages. The rescue's staff are super friendly and very forthcoming about pets, treatments, and will answer whatever questions you might have (5 stars for that). The pet store staff were far less engaging. Most of them flat-out ignored us, didn't approach or ask if we needed their help. Overall, it left me with an "okay" impression, as in you can dash in for food or a quick purchase, but I'd probably do most of my product research online vs. asking the staff. read more

I came in seeking knowledge on electronic training devices when the one of the managers Rachel, informed me that they are a form of abuse. She does not know the situation that I have with my dog and why I need a electronic training device. They are sold at Petco for a reason. I do not consider them a form of punishment and she continued to tell me that if I was to buy one I am punishing my dog. Her customer service was absolutely unacceptable, Instead of giving me information on how to properly use the device she judged my character and my intentions towards my dog.
