Petco is located in Kapolei next to Ross and near Target, Sports Authority, and a bunch of other establishments. Parking is ample. The store is pretty huge. It's nicely sectioned and the layout is simple. I LOOOOOVE that you can bring your furry family members with you inside! (although on this day I left the kids at home!) We were looking for a new collar and leash for our big Pitbull Buddy. He's a stroooong boy and the BF is picky on what type of collar/leash he uses. We ended up buying a leash from Caesar Millan's line ($22.99) which was stylish and sturdy. The BF didn't find a collar that he felt was strong enough for Buddy. (booooo!) We also picked up "bath wipes" for Buddy ($14.99) since he just had surgery to drain a hematoma and his stitches won't be removed for another 2 weeks (3 weeks total)... and I want him smellin' so fresh and so clean since he can't bathe... :) We checked out pet beds (ridiculously overpriced!) but good thing we had just bought a bed for out lil one next door at Ross (MUCH cheaper! and NICE quality)... and Buddy, well he has an orthopedic bed from Kuranda ($200!) so he's all set. We browsed the other dog items, checked out the kittens/cats, perused through the fish and turtles, and even checked out the chinchillas (25% off!) (eeeek!)... and then we were on our way. Staff was pleasant and friendly. We had an associate ask us if we need assistance while we were browsing, and the female associate at the checkout register was friendly as well. I love seeing people and their pets shopping. So cute! Too bad Petco is overpriced!... and as Artemis A. mentioned... pretty appalled and saddened about the dog that got his ear snipped... :( If all else fails (Walmart/Target/NEX), we'll check out Petco. read more

I prefer PetSmart over Petco, but you know - we can't have it all, can we now? Anyways, that being said I really have nothing to complain about. Each time I have come here the check out service is friendly. That is honestly the only service I can really say anything about as that is the only interaction with employees that ever seems to happen. I am not greeted when I walk in. I have yet to be asked if I need help finding anything. I only come here for select things - a new leash or halter. Toys every now and then for my crazy (but adorable, loving, perfect) Australian Shepherd. I do love that they support local adoptions. I know the Humane Society will come here on weekends with their animals also so does a local group called CatFriends - which is wonderful! Adopt people, adopt! I always want to get another pup anytime I pass the adoption area. They are just adorable. I have nothing to say of their grooming services offered, as I have never used them. Groomers are terrible here. Twice on two separate occasions a groomer has injured my dog. Once they snipped the padding under her foot and once cut the nails too short and bled. Just one visit so far and it's definitely "A-OK". No complaints. This is for the Kapolei location, which is next door so convenience is a plus. Second, lots of parking. Being that the location is still very much under development, customer traffic isn't a problem. When you walk in, it's quite spacious, addressing: dog, cat, bird, and gerbil animal owners. Me and my gf went to find a fencing/play-pen for our new puppy and actually found a perfect one made for hamsters. Prices are... average (which isn't cheap). However, we weren't afforded the luxury of looking on amazon and scoring a better price there. The one staff we interacted with (our register-er) was friendly and courteous. If we need something else, we'll definitely keep here on our list of places to check. Until then, a solid 3 stars. read more

For a pet store, they have large selections of food, toys, and accessories for all kinds of pets. My wife and I just went in to window shop because we werent really looking for anything in particular. She did like the Guinea Pigs though! They didnt have a selection of anything. There were 2 chinchillas, 3 Guinea pigs, 4 different types of birds (1 each), crickets, bettas, and assorted fish and turtles. Small selection since the last time I visited. As for service, didnt really get any. We walked around and there were store workers going around but not one asked us if we needed any assistance. The bigger the store, the less you get noticed. Didnt matter anyway, since we were just looking around. But maybe we'll make the trip back for the Guinea pig. read more

I am reviewing for the grooming department, mainly for PUA. She is amazing! I have an incredibly grumpy cat that needs to be shaved twice a year. He dreaded it, and so did I, until we both met the kind and calm Pua. My cat sammi just loves her and she treats him as if he were her own..which is important to any pet owner. All we got was a nail trim and buff. But the groomer did an excellent job with handling my dog who was nervous hearing another pup cry it's lungs out in the holding pen. My dog peed on the groomer who took it in stride and calmed my her down before taking her in the back and checking her over before making any move to clip. My dog was less than happy with the trim but behaved wonderfully. And the groomer handled her even better! I'm so grateful since it's hard clipping her nails on my own. For the price it's well worth it to get a trim and buff! read more

Absolutely LOVE Petco Kapolei and everyone who works here. They have done nothing but made me and my two babies (Bella - Chihuahua and Ellie - Pitbull) feel like home. My pups love coming here and being greeted (by name) by the staff. Anytime we have questions, the staff has such knowledge about their products and what might be best for our babies. I have absolutely have nothing negative to say about this location. Can't thank Emily enough for dealing with us during our classes and helping both of the girls as much as you have. I honestly think that my girls love her as much as they love us! Emily is such an awesome trainer and I will not recommend anyone else, except her! Grooming is always such a positive experience for my girls, and my scaredy cat Bella always comes out with her tail wagging and smells amazing! Since her nails are black, I refuse to cut them myself. Walked up to the register and mentioned I couldn't find anyone on the floor to ask for help but the cashier basically told me to ask someone else to help me. I love Petco!! I only ever come here for fish but I always get excited to look at what they have. Most workers are well educated on the different types of fish and answered most of my questions. There are hardly any dead fish when I go, unlike Walmart in Kunia. The fish all mostly look healthy and well taken care of. I've bought ten fish from Petco and only two have died within a day after I bought them. One time I bought a weird fish out of the comet goldfish tank, it's body was long and skinny and it was silver in color. The workers didn't know what it was and I though it was cool so I bought it. If you buy it, it is territorial and chased my other comets. It ended up getting eaten by my koi, I'm not buying another. read more

Tried calling ahead before driving 30 minutes to find out if they carry a specific dog food. A pretty simple request, I thought. But I spent 15 minutes on hold with the same girl occasionally picking it up with "Thank you for calling petco" and then putting me back on hold and paging someone else, who never responded. Petco really is great. They work with you within the parameters of their more than reasonable policies, and often times are able to make exceptions to those rules. The Kapolei location is full of smiling faces both on the floor and within their grooming facility, and I always look forward to my visits there... even though I break the bank every time I go. We take our dog here for grooming regularly and each time the staff are always helpful and friendly. Our dog is less of a fan since he has to have his nails cut and his teeth brushed but today Stephanie the groomer was so patient with him, taking time to give him scratches and make him comfortable before taking him back. My daughter calls this location the Real petco since the one in waikele is lacking lol. Anyway the location is perfect for everyone on the west side and there is ample parking and the store is kept really clean. There are lots of things to choose from. Large selection of animal feed, animal accessories and habitats and cages for all animals. Let's not forget to mention there are pets here! (Take note Waikele location). What I love most is that this location (not sure about others) supports animal adoption first instead of just selling animals. I believe they are partnered with the humane society and carry out adoptions for cats and at some events adopt dogs out of this location. So kudos. They also have Guinea pigs, birds, mice, rats, chinchillas, turtles and nice sized fresh and salt water fish selection. Based on my experience I'm giving this location 5 stars only because there is one employee there who makes this location so much better than it is. Don't know the name but he is really kind and welcoming. My daughter picked up a bag of fish rocks that was opened and it spilled every where on the floor, she was scared but no one saw lol. I wasn't going to leave it there so I told an employee and he made my daughter feel better and cleaned it up right away all the while reassuring my daughter that it was ok. So much aloha with that guy if it wasn't for him this location would just be meh. Funny how the attitude and personality of employees can affect a business. :) read more

The manager admitted she lied to me and that she cut the ear while trimming her hair and there was "a lot of blood". Took little Dunder here the other day because he was in desperate need of a good cleaning, and personally I would just rather pay someone else to bathe my dog for me! It was his first trip to Petco. and at first he was unsure about it (I literally had to DRAG him through the doors!) The girl working at the grooming counter was soo extremely sweet and helpful.. she helped me choose one of their grooming packages , and assured me my little Dunder was in good hands! I was told to return in a hour or so.. (which was a good excuse for me to hit up Target and Ross!) After about an hour I got a phone call that my little D was ready for me to pick him up!. And let me tell ya they did such a GREAT job.. Dunder was lookin and smelling so fresh and so clean, clean!! I will definitely be back here when he needs another visit to the doggie spa! read more

PetCo. is pet friendly. Many people came toting their dogs and puppies. I was there to check it out and hopefully buy my two pups some toys or snacks. They definitely have a wide array of pet necessities and extras, and they had some birds, fish and guinea pigs for sale. The store isn't as big as I thought it would be, but it's nice. There was an employee talking about Natural Balance dog foods, and giving out free samples for dog owners. We got this compressed dog food sausage thing for free (regularly $0.99) but haven't given it to the pups yet. We did buy some of the dog snacks ($5.99 for an 8oz bag) and dog food made by Natural Balance. And we bought two Kong toys, the ones that the dogs have to play with in order to get the dog snack inside, out. I wanted to get the ball one, but they were already out! Anyway sign up to be a PetCo Pal, it's free and they supposedly send you discounts and promotions, and when it's your pets' birthday they send something (I imagine a discount coupon) to you. Oh and they have a cute dog treat bar, where you fill a bag with whatever treats you would like and pay by the pound. Fun stuff. Beware of other people's dogs if you bring your own pooch though, some of the dogs didn't like each other. read more

We ended up buying some fishes and this time it was a friendly guy with long hair. He's cool. Attentive and prompt. I was also there yesterday because we just picked up a new puppy. Just to clarify I've never taken my pets to this petco location or any petco location on island for grooming services. I'm appalled because I worked at Petco on the mainland in grooming for over 2 years and we required shot records to protect dogs against Kennel Cough, parvo and other diseases. Hey guys and gals today me and my kid we're headed down to Petco. I have raised alot of animals and it's a passion of mine. We had just set up a turtle tank at our house. So I let the tank cycle for a while to let the cycle process happen. We went down there today to buy a red ear slider turtle. I have raised a couple of them in the past. I new what the turtle habit inquires. Well just so happens my daughter asked a manager if she could get one. He automatically told her u need this habitat for the turtle. It was a 40 gallon breeder set up. Yes that is the correct set up. But he didn't know we had one set up already. So he didn't want to sell us the turtle. I feel like I don't have to explain what I have in my own home. Do you honestly think we could bring a turtle home with no living space. No he insisted my daughter to buy a $180 set up when we already had one. And the set up we have is a 55g tank that I had sitting. I got a basking set up with lamp and platform already in I just don't know why he had to force a purchase on my daughter. And when I told him I was doing aquatics for about 5 years now. Raised and still have loving and caring animals that we love. I have shopped at Petco in kaneohe for years with no issues. But first time hear in kapolei and man let me tell you that wasn't right for you to tell me and my daughter we can't purchase a turtle. Large selection, nice to see the "natural/organic" section of toys, treats, and food is larger that what I'd expect at a national big box chain type of store. Prices are high, though! Found a Nylabone for my dog for about $20...then found it at Target for $9. Picked up two very cheap ($3 each) little catnip toys for my cats and enjoyed watching them in their cracked out state. I don't know who it's more entertaining for, me or the cats. It was the most I've seen my 17 pound cat move in quite a while, so money well spent. read more

DO NOT COME HERE THEY CUT DOGS! took my baby girl here to get groomed and I knew something was wrong when 5 hours passed and they weren't finished so I called to make sure everything was okay. They said everything was fine they just had others dogs being worked on as well, so I said that's understandable but I made an appointment and it usually doesn't take this long. So I went back into the store and asked to see my baby girl and they gave me the run around said it will be a few minutes and all that so I said sure then when they finally brought her out she had a big cut on her elbow! And she was bleeding all her self! The worker said its not as bad as it looks but I mean she's bleeding so it's BAD she shouldn't be bleeding at all! On top of that they didn't finish the grooming till 2 hours after that so I waited a total of 7 hours just for a simple groom. They didn't charge me for the service and the lady who cut my dog gave me an additional free service coupon. I went to use the coupon and they said that it was voided because I wasn't charged for the first service. Over all DONT GO TO THIS PETCO! read more

I mean c'mon,the place is pretty big, and not another petco by...That was definitley not the best plan layout there. Other then that the place is pretty good.love the fact that they have the Hawaiian Humane Society bring down cats & dogs for the day so they can be adopted out. I saw the cats when we went there the second day they opened but they didnt bring down any of the dogs yet,they were suppose to brought down the next day but it was pretty crowded that second day so we didnt want to come down the next to see how the dogs worked out over there. Hope it continues to stay neat and clean..Lol, next week we are gonna take our Rough Colie down there just to show her off. Oh yeah,we too signed up for the Petco Pals thing.. We got a Rescue dog on Thursday - Zoe a Silky, she needed a collar, and a walking harness. Zoe was a wreck on day one, but she got TLC from PETCO and the other customers! The salesperson Patricia was SO HELPFUL! She taught me how to put on the PETCO brand Harness, then upon her suggestion I bought the ID tag too, it was fun just watching it being made! But Patricia and her great customer service made it all an experience and not an ordeal. read more

We took our dog here to get groomed. He had napping which our other groomer in ewa brushes out. The girl said he needs to be shaved. After doing his hair another groomer said pomeranians should NEVER be shaved because their hair won't grow back! WTF. Why didn't she tell me that before shaving my dog?? We will never be going back there I'm pissed. Not to mention it took FOREVER. I kept asking when she will be done and she told me 15 more minutes.. 4 hours later I picked up my rat looking dog. read more

I love this petco. I live at Royal Kunia so it's a slightly farther drive than it is to the one in Ewa or Waikele but it is worth it because the grooming services at this location are outstanding, it's clean, they have what I need or are willing to help me get it even if the store doesn't carry it. The customer service is awesome. They are polite and helpful to me and they're super nice to my dog. If she could rate it she would give it five stars just for tummy rubs and treats. The grooming services are affordable and done well. They've always done great work on our Shiba and sometimes we don't have an appointment but we still get right in. read more
