Predicable chain store, but the staff here are exceptionally nice. They have been very helpful on a number of occasions and always seem to be in a great mood. Patrons can be jerks and leave their Petco carts in the parking lot even though there is no return cache. So usually I find a stray one in the lot to bring back inside to be nice and get the royal treatment. Wouldn't give it 5-stars because a lot of what I usually would get here (beds, scratching posts, food, toys, cleaning products) I have since found for much cheaper on Amazon or sometimes Costco. So Petco's everyday usefulness has declined for all but emergency supplies. For instance, the "Ultimate Cat Scratching Post" is at Petco for $70. Got it off Amazon for $35 with free shipping. read more

We adopted our Siamese cat from here last week and we couldn't be happier. She is such a wonderful addition to our family. The adoption itself was super easy and pain free. They wanted to keep her for a week to be sure she was healthy and we had no problems with that. When we picked her up the woman gave us a bunch of treats and little things that Lilly liked to help with her transition to her new home. We love this store and will be returning soon!! read more

This location has more then enough staff to help with all you pet needs. I come in here often to get Pet snacks and Shampoo. Sometimes I will also get my yorkies nails trimmed here but it all depends on who is working. Sometimes it can be a hit or miss with the people working in the Pet Grooming. I also has my yorkie dog trained here with Tracey! She was the best! If anyone knows a yorkie he needed training right away. Love shopping at Petco. They have really good products for my two dogs. We recently switched from buying our dogs the Wilderness Blue Buffalo Salmon dog food to Canidae Grain Free Salmon dog food per the suggestion of an employee. They all seem to be very knowledgable when it comes to finding a good dog food to fit our budget. We have totally seen a difference in our dogs since the switch. The Canidae food is amazing and we're so glad Petco carries it. We used to go to Petsmart because they were cheaper, but they don't carry Canidae. They were also sure to tell us that Petco price matches so we no longer need to make the trip to Petsmart. The staff here really go above and beyond, they treat every dog that comes in as if it was their own. The attention to detail, the concern for the animals comfort, and the customer service is hands-down why I am a returning customer. My dog got skunked twice within two weeks, and the staff never even batted an eye to take him in and begin the horrendous process. Petco will not exchange $100 crate for a larger one. Unopened with receipt. They blame that on Covid. What an excuse to just give poor service. An unopened box is hardly a threat. Went to grab food for our dog and was humiliated and felt targeted by an employee there. My husband was told his mask wasn't on properly so he fixed it. The employee then proceeds to watch us the entire time we were inside. We are now paying and my husbands mask slipped under his nose and the employee unprofessionally tells him to leave as we're checking out. Meanwhile the customer he is checking out has her mask on under her nose. We wanted no trouble. I couldn't catch a name because we just wanted to leave but the employee was a tall male with curly hair with what looked like blonde highlights. Again extremely unprofessional. Jordan in the grooming salon is AMAZING never had an experience this good at any other petco! She greeted my Shelly and I by name and introduced herself. Then looked my all over my pup and pointed out a lump I hadn't noticed and recommended I ask the vet about it on my next visit! She took detailed notes on the cut I wanted (I'm a little particular) and recommended I try out the spa package (which I LOVED)! End result BEST haircut Shelly has ever had!! She smelled fantastic, nails were filed short and breath was WAY better!! Hands down will definitely be back for Jordan!! read more

This pains me to give one of my favorite pet supply stores such a horrible review. I go here all the time for treats and dog food and my dogs favorite toys but for the past few months the quality of customer service he's gone in the gutter. I took my younger dog here to the Vetco clinic for his rabies shot, and the entire time from check in to check out was a disaster. The vet had nothing but rude and judgmental comments to say about our dog from his allergies to his sensitive skin and diet. Which he takes medication for his allergies, doggy sunscreen and a vet prescribed diet he's a two year old boxer just happy as can be. After this and I went to check out I was trying to be polite saying hello thank you please and excuse me even when I didn't need to just to be courteous, and nothing just rude and snippy attitudes from the cashiers, smart remarks about my method of payment. I will be going to the college Blvd location from now on. Petco you need to fix this. read more

Can you give a place negative stars??? First off, I used to love Petco. I even worked at their corporate office out of college. This review is about the TERRIBLE customer service I received. I have a 8lb toy poodle. We were in Petco one evening when a lady and her daughter came through the front door. My poodle, who loves everyone, ran up to the lady and her daughter and the peraon at the cashier yelled at me in front of everyone to keep my dog at 6 feet on her leash. I apologized to the lady and her daughter and the lady said it didn't bother them at all. No matter where I am at, I don't get yelled at. I'm a responsible 44 y/o dog mom who doesn't need to be yelled at by anyone. I promptly took my dog and left. I will NEVER shop at or support Petco again. I thought it was a place where I could take my pet? I also thought it was a place my pet could go to enjoy herself. Do not support Petco if you love your pet. We went to Pet Co in Oceanside (vista way) a total of 3 times and will never return. Yesterday was absolutely the worst. We picked up our dog and he didn't even look like he had been done. His face was dirty and he had matts everywhere. He gets groomed every single Saturday!!! We are summer visitors and we are so spoiled by our fabulous groomer in Phoenix. Yesterday was "D" day for Pet Co. Shelby is 1/2 Maltese and 1/2 Shitzu. His ears were matted, tail was one big Matt, and sever side matts. It is my perception that they wet him down and dried him. No comb out. Very disappointed and waste of money. read more

So the other day i went into this petco , with the consideration of purchasing a fish for myself and daughter . ( clearly id be taking care of it , but with this lock down and all . I wanted something to " excite" her , teach her responsibility . Blah blah . Now clearly when you enter a facility you tend to what , look around ? I looked at the rodents as well , in consideration . But i was considered it might be a bit too much for my child . Anyways . I spent in total i want to say 15 minutes at this petco . Thinking about the fish purchase or not . The fish were kinda scary looking so you know the choice was hard . Now the person im with shopping at this particular petco had a hamster and we were checking them out for their sake while i was trying to make my decision. We notice this massive cockroach and it draws the attention of an elderly employee , who comes at us with this attitude right away , and says that if we are not serious buyers we need to basically get the hell out . I was so appalled by this women's guest service how dare she insinuate my intentions. I am not sure if she was just ashamed we noticed their store was filthy with bugs or what the deal with that was , but it was NOT okay . I was an active shopping member at petco and had never once seen this woman . I can surely say i will not be returning there , which is a shame . My job actually consists of training in guest services , so petco if you need help feel free to send her my way , cause she could use a lesson or two , i am so disappointed , disrespected , and quiet honestly shocked to have had such a negative guest service experience . Awful experience! I was looking to buy a leopard gecko for my daughters birthday. A nice lady came to help us named Aubrie. She was very good about protocol and had us use hand sanitizer before picking up any animals. Suddenly another worker named Jamie yelled from across the store to not put our hands in the tanks when simply putting one of the geckos back. She then comes up to us while handling the second gecko and snatches it from us while yelling and then puts it away and locks the tank. She then gives us a dirty look. At this point my husband and I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable while she just gave us the nastiest glare. We simply said have a nice day and walked out because they refused to sell us a gecko. Never coming back ever! Had higher expectations for one of the biggest pet store chains available. read more

Came here to just rave about Jordan! I came to her after a horrible experience with another groomer in North County and she has been amazing this past year! Ended up adding on a full bath with deshedder conditioning etc. Alexis took care of my little spaz of a dog and worked with her. She was so friendly and so great with Bonnie. The blond older lady who works at this location is extremely rude and a know it all. I don't know if she's the manager or just another associate but every time I try to get fish, it's like rocket science. My boyfriend and I are into aquascaping and have a lot of knowledge on fish and plants, as well as the environment and diets needed for them to sustain a good and healthy life. We have MANY tanks, with different breeds of fish and plants in each. Of course we research which aquatic animals can be together as well as the water parameters required for the fish and plants but apparently that knowledge means nothing to them here because they won't even sell to us anymore because of the knowledge im guessing they get from Wikipedia or google... Petco needs to step up their game, if customers clearly have knowledge on the animal, don't play 20 questions and then decide whether or not they're "fit" to buy them. You're not only going to lose out on a lot of business, but the fish are going to end up dying (mainly bettas) because they're living in literal cups. I will continue to buy only from small businesses because this is ridiculous. read more

Skinny blonde dude with "spikes") has awful customer service skills along with the employee with greenish hair. Whenever I've asked for help they roll their eyes or heave a sigh of annoyance. Went there to pick up some female guppies yesterday. The manager was dealing with some difficult customers while we waited. They were giving her a really hard time and we felt bad for her. While we waited we noticed one of the fish we were looking at had callamanus worm hanging from its anus (honestly they are easy to treat and it's impossible to expect a big box pet supplier to not have a sick fish or two cone from their supplier so we weren't bothered by it, but we didn't want to take that one home). When she came over to ask us if we needed help, my partner said we wanted to take four females but not the one with the parasite. Believe me, I realize that would fluster anyone, so I understood that she got a little huffy. But then she told us that bright red worm was poop (this thing was fire truck red and way too long to be poop. And it was not detaching no matter how much the little fish swam around). She said pregnant fish have trouble with their poop. This fish had no enlarged belly and no dark gravid spot indicating pregnancy. I don't claim to be an expert but when all my fish including the four I brought home are pooping dark brown (including the two that do appear to be pregnant), I'm 99 percent sure that fish had a callamanus worm. To top it off the lady was annoyed that I wanted to pick out my own fish (because I wanted particular colors), and she just started netting them for me. I was too intimidated to speak up at this point so I just paid for what she gave me. The cherry on top was she interrupted the lady who was ringing me up to ask her to go help with something else... I've come here for years for all my pets (dog, cat, bird, guinea pig, etc) and after speaking to my friend who had a bad experience with her too, I've decided I won't continue patronizing this Petco. read more

Been a Petco Pals Rewards Member ever since I got my fur baby. I think they're very consistent. The prices don't vary from store to store. The rewards are nice and their natural balance brand of pet food has been great! My dog loves it- wet and dry types. Even that brand of treats. They work with you to honor coupons and have even honored some that are just a few days pat expiration, very happy customer! read more

What do you expect from a chain store. They can make the prices the way they want to. Knowing you can get them someplace cheaper. They almost beg you to go looking somewhere else for a bargain. You might want to stay and watch your pet being groomed, I have witnessed an employee at a different Petco hit the dog she was grooming with the brush and the dog was whining because it's fur was all matted up. Our trainer( I am not sure but I think her name was Tracy) was sweet and friendly but she kept talking about something else with her friend who was taking the class with her pup also. *UPDATE* I went back to return the dog-bed WITH the printed online return slip and STILL had to tell the cashier what to enter. The cashier was a young gentleman, he seemed completely dazed and confused...anyway, he entered the information on my receipt as the dog trainer, some little girl with short dark hair who gave me a dirty look as soon as I walked into the store, ran up to him and in a rude tone said, "Wait! Does she even have her online return sheet?!" And he was like, "Yup." And waved it at her to see. He did the return but entered the wrong item and almost gave me back $69.99 for the kennel I had also purchased (but wasn't returning) and I had to correct him and tell him I was returning the dog bed priced at the bottom for $37.94. Even with this return slip they demanded I have they still didn't know what to enter into the computer. This store is full of a bunch of rude MORONS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know PETCO is not at the top of the pet supply chain; and it's no wonder Petsmart has beaten them to the top. The customer service here is horrible and the employees and managers are idiots. The store overall is small but neatly kept. I normally only come here if Petsmart isn't carrying something I'm looking for, in this case it was a particular pet bed. I ordered a pink/leopard dog bed online and was sent the wrong one, I brought the item and shipping receipt to the store, the "Team Lead" - who mind you could have taken an extra minute to clean herself up before going into work - told me she needed a printed return receipt from online. So I pulled it up on my phone along with my order confirmation email. She grabbed my phone from me without even asking (and I hate germs so this bothered me a lot) started scrolling through the return receipt on the screen and told me she needed a printed one because this one didn't have the information she needed. I pointed out everything she needed (I worked at 3 different PETCO's about 5 years ago so I know how to do a return). She kept insisting I was wrong and she needed to see the return slip, I told her the one I printed would be the one on the screen...but she swore there was a barcode for her to scan if I printed it out. She proceeded to call her assistant manager up for help (what kind of store promotes someone to a supervisor position when they can't even do a simple customer return???). He looked at my shipping slip, my return slip on my phone and told me, "We can't do the return without seeing the price you paid for the item" I showed him the price on the screen on my phone and he was like, "Well what's this $24.99?" I said, "That's for the other item I ordered...I was just sent the wrong dog bed so I just want to return it. Here's the date it was purchased, the 'cashier's number', the order number and the store number that you need to enter in order to do the return. Here's the sku, item description and price. I used to be a manager at PETCO too...I'm sure your system hasn't changed that much in 5 years considering it was brand new when I worked there." They kept insisting I needed a printed copy of the return slip so the assistant manager walked away and the girl just looked at me and was like, "Print it out and come back" like seriously?! What a waste of time...I have just printed out the return slip from the website, it looks just like it did on my phone with no barcode to scan...but I'll have to go back to the store and deal with these idiots again. Or I could just go to Petsmart because even though I didn't buy it from them, they'll take it. THAT is why this is probably going to be my last transaction with this petco ever. HORRIBLE service, they have no idea what "the customer is always right" means, even when someone is telling them what they need to be doing they're lost...this is by far the WORST petco I have ever been to. My sis and I came by here last weekend to purchase supplies. We decided to visit the kitties in their kennel but was greeted with the abhorrent cat urine smell. It smelled like it was just being masked with deodorizing litter. Please clean the litter and use the products you sell! I felt sorry for those cats who has to smell that 24/7. Ian is the best trainer at Petco! I have a pit/mastiff mixed dog who is now a completely different dog thanks to Ian. I never thought my dog would ever calm down or behave but Ian took the time to train my dog as well as teach me how to train him too. Highly recommend Ian to everyone for training. read more

I went to Petco (Vista Way) I took my puppy to get checked up and the vet said she couldn't see my puppy because we didn't have her long enough. I was concerned about my puppies belly area and the Vet literally told me she didn't understand why I was worried because it was just red. . She gave her a quick look and said she was fine and it was nothing. I ended up taking my puppy to a vet clinic and turns out she had an infection. Worst Pet clinic. Don't work as a vet if you're going to suck at your job and have a bad attitude about it. read more
