I would never take my dogs here for grooming. When I first got my dog Lola I was looking for a groomer and I visited Petco. I had Lola with me. When I got her she had long ugly hair. She didn't look nice. The girls looked at her and kind of had this "The dog is ugly" look. Lola was a stray and she needed a haircut and bath badly. It's not her fault she looked like that!! I had this awful feeling about that place. I left never came back. Lola since then has been going with Lisa from Pet Smart. She always leaves Lola looking pretty. If you had a better experience good for you, but for me I would never leave my baby there with those women. read more

Thanks for selling me a diseased pet rat that had a contagious respiratory disease spreading it to my other two pet rats and my sisters pet mouse killing all three, even after $75.00 worth of antibiotics from the vet. Apparently, according to your store manager and district manager " diseased animals are not permitted to be displayed or sold" but are " properly taken care of" ....maybe you should check on that and get back to me. read more

I don't usually use petco for grooming but thought I'd try the grooming here with one of my dogs. The waiting/check in area is far too small. I have a large dog and within a few minutes, four people with three small dogs and me and my giant dog were crammed into an extremely small area. The groomer who checked us in seemed like she was rushing us through the process. We were not asked what kind of spa services we wanted for our dog. When we picked up our dog she didn't have her bandana or anything on already. She did not have her nails painted (which was advertised to come included in the service). I have no idea what they actually did with my dog. I opened up the service card and it was blank except for my dogs name and the groomers name. I found the entire experience stressful and unsatisfactory and the grooming department at Petco unprofessional and disorganized. read more

The gentleman in the aquatic pets department, was Very knowledgeable, and helpful. I found better deals, and a better assortment of aquatic supplies here, than at Petsmart, across the street. I have to air this as it made me sick to my stomach and I cannot stop thinking about it. One of the girls I work with and I went to Petco, in Palmdale, CA yesterday, to get my precious little Thelma some fancy food hehhe. Long story short, we were stuck in line behind a couple doing a return. I could not help but to look over at the dog grooming area and saw a young guy grooming a little terrier. He was literally pulling hair out of this dogs head and then stuck a cotton ball, in what appeared to be a alcohol bottle; You know one of those ones the doctor uses that you press the cotton ball down on and it dispenses. He then placed it on the dogs head and it jumped. If that was not bad enough he was holding the dogs ear and literally ripping hair out of its inner ears. This dog was in pain and kept jumping, but it did not stop this kid. Not done yet people!!! He then took another cotton ball and once again pushed down on the bottle and then put it on the raw ears where he just ripped out the hair. The dog let out a yelp and jumped. He then began taking the same cotton ball and literally DIGGING into this dogs ears like his life depended on it. This dog was in so much pain at this point it bit at him. He goes right back at it and then dog bite at him again. Well, you would think he got the message by now, but no, he begins digging in the dogs other ear and once again the dog bite at him and this time the guy flicked at the dog. Then he grabs a leash and does not even get it around the dogs throat, instead its over its eye and half way around the throat and he pulls the dog off the table and sticks it in a cage. I was so upset and very loud about it. This dog was being hurt and mistreated in a window, right in view of all of us in line. I talked to the cashier and she said she knows how he does and was told he is in training so he is learning. I was furious!!!! I later called for the manager and was handed over to someone who stated he was a shift manager, who was so rude and could care less. When I asked for a district number I was refused the request. I am plastering this on YELP, Facebook and any other outlet I can find. I am also calling animal control today and turning them in. No animal should every be treated this way. I spoke with my sister in law, who is a professional groomer and she said there are dogs who need hair removed from their ears, but there is a powder that is used to loosen it and gently remove it. I purchased a blue spotted goby, later to find out the poor guy was full of flukes and Ich. I asked the employee if they quarantine the fish and she told me "no, they don't need it unless they're sick" with an annoyed look on her face. From her answer I assumed the fish was healthy so I bought him. The selection of saltwater fish is so small, they don't care for their animals and are not experienced with their care. I am never coming back to this petco. I recommend to anyone who wants to buy fish from here to look for a local fish store. Also they don't have a return policy on saltwater fish. read more

Walked in at about 12:30 in the afternoon to get a fish tank water heater and some feeder fish. Looked around for an employee to assist me getting the fish but there didn't seem to be very many working. One employee was talking to a customer about dogs, having a lengthy conversation that was completely unnecessary. After waiting for about 10 minutes I decided to forget about the feeder fish and just go with the water heater. As I walked up to the check out counter I noticed no one was there. Finally after about 5 minutes of another customer and I waiting at the counter an employee finally walked over. The employee seemed to be having difficulty scanning the cat food cans the customer in front of me was trying to purchase. After waiting for about 7 minutes with only one customer in front of me I set down the water heater and just walked out. read more

I feel like every time I visit this particular store they always have only 1 employee on the floor, I wanted to purchase some leopard geckos today and asked the cashier (the only employee) for assistance with reptiles, without even looking at me she gave me a smug "sure" and didn't proceed to get anyone to help me... after a long wait I went to seek another employee, when I reached the loading area all I can hear is the rest of the employees laughing and playing in the back. I'm dissapointed in their work ethic, and care for customers, well being. I started taking my Rottweiler pup when he was about 6 months for training. He had been going in since June . Everyone knew him and loved him ,he had a couple of favorites and employees , and customers would love walking up to let him and say hello everyone he went in. Also for grooming. - well my dog, still being a pup but a lot larger in size. We went in on a Sunday for his Level 2 class, he usually went in on fridays less people . Not so busy. SunDay was busy and full of people and dig up for adoption. He was really restless , long story short some guy kept walking by us with my dog being , and getting restless towards the dog I walked into an isle making my way to his training room , had stopped along the way some folks wanted to pet him. So they did. Then I proceeded to walk away never seen him so excited .. and fixated on another dog. As they guy walk by again my dog jumped up to bark at his dog and when I saw he jumped up on top feet I held on to hIm .. and tried to calm him. Just like that he bit my face. - everyone looked at me horrified. As I'm bleeding all over the place .. my son 11 with me he accompanied me to all hIs classes. No one cared to help or assist me. - I was very dissapointed and hurt never the less. As if I wasn't a loyal customer. In need of medical assistance . No one bother to call and ambulance or pound for that matter. I was just in shock . No manager or supervisor cared to come to my aide. The trainer had to be told get her a napkin . And that was that I still made my way to the back room to sit and instructed my dog to lay down he did. - I'm so glad I held on to him clearly the employees Here are all incompetent in an emergency. When I address the store manager a week later he said well I wasn't here. I said I'm sure I heard , no one called me to see how I was. I said where was your supervisor he said "he's got a lot of things to do . " wow. Just sickening. Some lady customer came to the back and asked if I was ok! .. at least she had a heart . I called corporate so did my daughter. No one cared. I said I hope this doesn't happen to an employee or another customer. - so upsetting. I would help annoyed if need be. All manager did is give me my money back- how does a business not have a first aid kid. Bandages, alcohol oreos whatever .. I could of used! I ended up driving myself out of there with my dog and son in the car back. And to the ER. These place needs new management and Carlos the supervisor never showed his face all I was told he was the one working that shift. So so awful. So my son asked mechele if they had any cold medicine for my cat who has a runny nose and she replied with a snotty attitude that they don't sell medication and that we should go to the vet. That being said I went threw each isle and finally found the medication to ease my cats cold. So yes the store is clean and yes they had the medication that I needed but considering they had 3 ppl up in front doing nothing but talking gossip and had that horrible customer service lady mechele talk to my son like that I believe pets smart will now be my store which by the way is just across the street. I suggest you all just go there. The only reason why I had to go to Petco in the first place was due to the fact that they didn't carry the medication I needed. Thank you that is all. P. I find This Petco has better selection of aquarium fish than the Petsmart across. They make better display of fish tanks with live plants. So I tend to come here to buy fish. I don't think some workers aren't very knowledgeable of fish they carry. But it a chain pet store. So can't complain of selection of accessories and food for the cats and dogs. read more

I came to buy dog food from this location I've been coming here for the past 5 months and had no problem. Slowly the environment of the store changed. Their were issues with being helped with getting questions answered. Today I went in to get the regulars dog food that I get my dog and they were out. I looked around no one was there so I walked around till I found this gentleman I asked him do you guys have this dog food he automatically went "no we never carry that in our store" I explained to him I bought it about a month ago so he questioned me saying are you sure we never have it here. I walked him to the sticker and said it's here can you check if you have it in the back he chucked under his nose said this is all we have and last time this was ordered was 10/27 which got me more furious because I bought it from their about 3 weeks ago. He was no help what so ever. I went to the front asked the clerk to check she went to the back came back saying " we ran out there is no more sorry" I asked when will you get more she argued her shoulders and said "you can go to PetSmart and get it their." Please DO NOT have your Pets groomed here! AMANADA is the worse pet groomer I have EVER encountered! I do not know her personally. I have witnessed her once, cutting a little Shih Tzu's behind by the leg, with the scissors she was using! It was Bad! (She was very careless, and acted like she could care less!!!) The poor little dog was screaming/yelping/whining in his/her own little voice! She grabbed him/her and took her/him to the back. It was like she did not want me to see what happened. This was about 6 months ago. (I have a cute white Maltese, who got groomed by SOMEONE else, about 4 times since that incident) So..here is what happened. I brought in my cute Maltese 2 weeks ago. And AMANDA was the one who greeted me. Very rudely! She saw my dog, and right away said, that I had to sign a WAIVER, cus she said my dog was "extremely" matted! This was NOT true. I told her, that I never have to sign this waiver before, and I do not agree that she was extremely matted. She told me rudely that if I do not sign it, they won't be able to groom my dog. I read the waiver, and it basically states, that if they cause ANY damage to my dog, that they are not responsible! That means cutting the dogs SKIN! I told her no way I would sign that. And reminded her that my dog is not extremely matted. She gave me a dirty look, and told me she will NOT groom my dog then!!! I remembered how bad she hurt the Shih Tzu before, and no way I was going to sign a waiver, leave my dog in her care, so that she can act like Cruela Deville, and hurt my dog!!! I left, never to return!!! AND I went to Pet Smart, across the street by Trader Joes. They were soooo nice to me!!! I did not have to sign anything like that!!! AND they groomed her, and she looked soooo pretty!!!! They were so courteous I was even surprised. Please don't leave your precious dog here, who can't say anything, and can't defend him/her self from this cruel person Amanda ! read more

What has happened to Customer service?? When I went to pick up my dog from the groomers I walked in to the groomers section and was handed a piece of paper and then told to go pay the cashier. Then as I proceed to check out I walk up to the cashier and she just takes my bill, doesn't say hello or anything. Doesn't even make eye contact. Then she gives me my total which is $64.00 ( not cheap for grooming). I hand her the cash and thought I would at least get a "there you go" or "have a good one", but nothing, not a word. I am so disgusted with these places and paying for service and this generation of people can't even say hello, or even say thank u have a good day. It's unacceptable. I brought my newly adopted dog, Zilla, in for a groom after picking her up from the Lancaster Animal Care Center. We went straight from the shelter to the groomer; that poor dog had been sitting in her urine for the duration of her stay at the shelter, and well, I didn't want to smell pee on the 100 mile drive back. She was shedding like crazy too, due to the conditions they keep them in. Enter the awesome groomers at Petco. They answered the phone promptly and had space for a walk-in 2 hours before closing. Lauren did a great job bathing and brushing out this stressed pup. Zilla came out about 2 hours later smelling awesome and shedding a lot less. I ended up paying for a full bath, deshedding shampoo, and a teeth cleaning to get this pup ready for the start of the rest of her life in her forever home. I will admit that it was a bit on the steep side, but worth it. Zilla didn't smell like pee, was soft to the touch, and had fresh breath. Lauren was also able to tell us about things she noticed with my new dog, which was really helpful to know. There was a significantly less amount of hair in my car after stopping here. I'd make Lauren my regular groomer if I lived near this place, but for the rest of you, ask for her next time your pup needs a grooming. She did an amazing job! read more

This is the place where I get supplies for my puppy. Selection is a-ok. They are friendly and helpful. Tried the grooming services once but find it too pricey and takes forever. I asked them to trim the nails of my pup because it was starting to hurt us when she climbs up on you. But all they did was grind it down. They did not even bother to trim her fur. Oh well. She smelled great and looked cute afterwards. read more

I bought 5 fish for my 100 gal tank. Within A week I have lost 7 large beautiful angel fish to fungus and ich in spite of water changes and medication. I raised these fish from hatching. I will never buy fish from Petco again and think all other hobbies should beware!!!!!!!! read more

The Petco groomer did an amazing job with Dutchess. She was 2 weeks post surgery and her hair was uneven and she looked pretty bad. The Petco groomer took excellent care of her and asked plenty of questions about what I wanted. Because Dutchess was post surgery I watched the entire time she was being groomed and they didn't seem to mind. I love what they did for Dutchess too. She is clean and fresh and the scarring isn't as noticeable now. Thanks a million. read more

I paid for bath, nails and deep de-shedding. There are still clumps of fur coming out of my dog and his nails are not trimmed. Don't waste your money. Worst service I've ever had. $70??? It is incredibly obvious (by my experience and by reading the other reviews) that these employees are trained to enforce rules, rather than maintain a safe, enjoyable environment. I find myself at this Petco several times a year, and have for about 20 years. Today I went in and looked around for a while. A couple staff members said hello, and told my dog how handsome and well behaved he was. I saw a cute beanie and knelt to the ground to put it on my dog. When I was down on the ground, with my dogs head in my hands, the leash was on the floor. Not 2 seconds has passed before someone marched around the corner and exclaimed that if my dog is going to be in the store, his leash needed to be in my hand. My dog was in my hands, and his leash was not more than 6 inches away. We were the only customers in the store and they did a great job of getting us to leave as well. Consider changing your focus Petco, or your stores will remain empty. read more
