BAIT AND SWITCH. When they opened the Vet side a couple years back I was convinced to switch from our regular vet. Since then it has been steadily down hill. Still waiting on a call back for services that we wanted to have done. After 3 calls to ask to talk with Vet, I am done. For any business managers here who may be wondering why the store revenues are falling, look no further than how your store is being run now. Honestly, planned to spend over $1k on vet services but if I cant get a call back why would I trust them with our dog? Not the only gripe here, just seeing how this is steadily going into the toilet so we will be returning to our regular vet. A little customer service and the things that got you going early on would go a long way. read more

Made an appointment to see the vet and got cancel because my appointment was less important then other people. Now i have to wait for a week for a reschedule or who know if that going to get cancel. They don't even care about my concern they told me to took my pet somewhere else. read more

Have been to the store twice the last few days. I grabbed a couple bully sticks out of the 5.00 box and checked out. On the way home I looked at the receipt and was charge for one 8.00 stick and one 5.00 stock. Obviously the bully sticks were mixed together so make sure you confirm before checkout. Visited again today and purchased some high quality dog food, treats etc. got home and realized the box of treats (cookie type) was previously opened including the inside plastic bag and was put back on the shelf for resale. As a customer I should expect the inventory to be correct, new and unopened. I blame this on staff not doing there job. read more

Petcoach on Poway Road is amazing. The employees are incredibly knowledgable and extremely helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the ease of washing my two little dogs at their washing stations. Makes bath time so easy and low stress. Best of all, no wet dog mess in my bathroom! Love this place! read more

BEWARE if you're using the vet clinic (Vetco) INSIDE Petco and have a TERRIBLE experience don't expect Petco to resolve the issue especially since they're busy passing the buck telling me that Vetco is a 3rd party business and that if you have an issue contact Vetco. Well let me tell you this, since your computer's aren't working and you're GUESSING what immunizations my dog needs if she gets sick or dies my lawsuit will contain PETCOS name!!! My experience there today was filled with so much inadequacies and incompetence I would have to write a novel, so I'll have to keep this short and sweet and finish up by saying this review DOES include Vetco since Petco claims to be a separate entity!! I never Yelp unless its real good or bad,. I have never been to a pet store and stand in the fish section for 10 minutes and get no help. They have to page someone to come help me purchase fish???? 5 people at the counter with 0 customers and not 1 person to assist in the fish department. This has happened to me so many times I REFUSE to shop there anymore and go 20 minutes out of my way to petsmart where there are 3 people standing by to help me. Terrible service and communication from the front desk at the vet hospital. Took 4 weeks to receive test results for my dog after several phone calls to them and repeated requests. Email and phone contact confirmed. Still no follow up. Receptionist/Front office manger was abrupt, rude and cut me off after insisting emails and cell phone messages were made to contact me. As it turns out, there was a typo in the email address they had for me. Why they didn't reach out by phone is a mystery. Certainly not conducive to maintaining and promoting return clients for animal care and directly reflects the lack of care my pets would may have been exposed to. Needless to say I'll be placing the medical care of my fur baby's with a Veterinary office who's Drs and staff are conscientious about the care of my pets and treats pets parents with professionalism. read more

The groomers who used to serve this store have moved to Carmel Mountain. Today I took the time, borrowed a truck to bring my dog into Petco Poway for a simple wash and toe buff. I was greeted with "We don't do drop in bathing." I mentioned to her that we had always come at a slow time (Monday at 1:40 and there was only one other dog there). She refused service and sent me away, along with another customer that was behind me. FURIOUS!!!!! read more

Done with Petco. It's Kahoots from now on! I've been taking care of my neighbor's dog for months. He spent as much time at my house as theirs. I fell in love with him. Long story short,they gave him to me. So I brought him in to Petco for his vaccinations. The rude girl registering people asked how long I've had him. I said a few days -she said "oh, well we can't give him vaccines until you've had him for 7 days, to ensure he isn't sick". I then explained I am familiar with his health, I've been caring for him for months. She just gave me a blank look and said they couldn't give the shots until I've had him for 7 days. At that point I realized it was probably best not to let these people touch my dog and left. After reading other reviews of their "vet" services, I'm so glad I did!! read more

This review is regarding the amazing dog trainer, Leslie! We took in our 5 month old Pomeranian to petco to see the training classes they offered. It was around the holidays so we got a pretty good deal including puppy 1 and puppy 2 classes. Our little one was pretty rambunctious so it was great to keep her mind occupied with positive training. Leslie is very attentive to each of the dogs and what they need work on. Any question we ever have, she has a solution, and one that works! I highly recommend taking your dog to Leslie for training, puppy or adult, it's never too late! It's a wonderful experience :) read more

We have taken our dog to be groomed here twice and will not be going back. This last time, we observed an employee yelling at a dog and putting it roughly into one of the dryers, and then yelling at our dog, who was (understandably) pulling and jumping in an attempt to get out of there faster. Strangely, they also noted that our dog needed dental care, but he had just had a deep cleaning at the vet under anesthesia a week earlier; if they didn't actually check his teeth and report the condition accurately, what else were they sloppy about? The bottom line is that less-than-gentle treatment of my animals is unacceptable. read more

This review is strictly for Mike in Grooming. Petco stores in general are not my favorite but Mike at the Poway Petco groomer is awesome. We call him the cat whisperer at my house because we take our fiesty/bratty long hair torti here every 4 months or so to get a lion cut. Mike does great work and you can tell he genuinly cares for the animals. The best part is my cat comes home happier than ever even though she looks ridiculous prancing around "naked" except for her mane and fluffy boots. read more

This review is for Dr Guzmair, the guy that gives the rabies shots at the Petco clinic. He needs to talk less.All I needed to purchase was a rabies shot for one dog. I didn't have my past vet records with me so he kept insisting I buy a whole package of shots that were already done by my regular vet. Without question one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I had an appointment for a shampoo and brushing. Five hours later I paid $90, was treated so poorly that I left with my dog so aggravated and didn't realize that either they didn't brush my dog out or they did such a poor job that the hair was just falling off my dog...I just chalked it up to a loss and will never go back for any reason to any PetCo. The next day I went to a place called Beauty and the Beast in Poway. Spent $65 and my dog stopped shedding, had a silky cost and smelled great. Paid $50 for my Australian Shepards hair to get butchered. Told them I just wanted a little trim and what ever aussies usually get.... apparently they have never cut a aussie before he was returned to me with lions cut. I took our 2 puppies - will be 1 year next month for their first ever formal grooming experience. We have been bathing them at home, but thought they were ready for a full experience. They were great. I would highly recommend Mike in their grooming area. He is gentle and really cares for the pets that come into the "salon". He was full of information as well regarding food, diet, treats, and grooming items for me to get to help between visits. I would highly recommend Mike - he is great! We will be back! read more

Pet Coach has become my very favorite place in the world for my very special Yorkie, Milo Green. For veterinary care, I give kudos to Dr. Drelich. Followed him from Temecula to Poway because he is so informed about medical issues and honest as to how to best treat our best friends, our pets. He cares...about our pets...and about us, the owners, as we try to find the best way to care for them. I'd also like to compliment Amanda, in grooming. She understands Milo's very timid personality, and always takes the time and care to keep him comfortable while making him as handsome as can be. And today, after some careful trimming, his wonky ears were standing up! No better look for a Yorkie! Can't recommend Dr. Drelich and Amanda enough!! read more

The grooming station is so unhelpful and nobody seems to actually want to work there. Ive come in 4+ times to get my dogs nail trim, which usually takes 5-10 mins, and they refuse to take her each time without a booked appointment even though I can see through the glass that the workers are just standing around doing nothing inside. Why hire so many workers if none are eager to help? Every time I've gone to petco at the Mira Mesa or Carmel Mountain location, they've been extremely helpful, accommodating, and always happy to take walk-ins. When I had an issue with my vital care account (bc they kept changing the programs) , the manager here was so incompetent and accusatory even though the issue was on their end for not syncing my account correctly. The only reason I've stuck around is because the vets are great at their job and we had an awesome experience with Kristin for the training program. Wish they'd hire better workers because this place had great potential when it opened. read more

The store person at the aquarium area helped me pick out a 49 cents shrimp patiently, and even told me that there's a return policy if it doesn't make it past 15 days. She also told me that I didn't need this other thing I was going to get. How nice! read more

i just happened into this store today as I .... adopted a dog!!! it is BIG! just as clean and organized as the others are. they were nice to have let 3 groups set=up for dog/ volunteer areas. I am glad that it si such a friendly store and that the volunteers were very comfortable there to sit and camp the whole day. can't give a five since they had been ravaged by shoppers in the dog areas and the staff didn't keep it orderly. I have had my membership for almost 3 months now. I haven't used the vet visits but I have used the bath regularly and picked up my free treats each month.Usually it is stellar, the staff are attentive and the bath area is very clean. Last night however, it was lackluster. The tub they got ready for me was not clean. And the response I got from the "manager" on duty was....oh that hair must have come from the mat (they throw the rubber floor mat across the tub after they clean the tub). Ok, that may be the case but I have bathed my dogs multiple times and never had a dirty tub so.....then the metal comb they provided me was crusty/rusty some thing was on it and wouldn't wash off, needless to say I didn't use it on my pups. Also, usually someone comes in and checks on the bathers to make sure all is well and see if you need anything, not last night. In fact 2 groups of people came into the bathing area to check it out and I ended up answering their questions about membership and bathing. So, overall I would recommend it with the occasional off night (at least I hope that is the case). read more

My 6-pound senior Maltese had her first grooming appointment today with Ann Marie. I could not be more pleased with the result, it was exactly what I asked for. I shared a photo of what I wanted my baby to look like from a previous grooming experience. She is now simply perfect with a super short summer cut! I did the express service to minimize stress on my dog, and she was finished in 90 minutes. Typically I have to have the groomer touch-up nails, tail, face, and ears, but Ann Marie did an absolutely fantastic job with no touch-ups needed! I am definitely returning and am so happy to have found such a great groomer. Reasonably priced, as well. read more

Stopped by this petco and had a really great experience. I called in earlier to ask about a specific product was in stock and I spoke with Dustin. Dustin was able to give me the best service by matching the online pricing that petco.com had offered and he was able to give me more information about the store for training services. Inside there were some cats and rabbits available for adoption and a grooming service. This petco was great and will definitely come back again. Dog training is currently $20 off til August 8th!! Service has always been friendly. They are a little steep sometimes on prices but with a PETCO Pals card you should be okay most of the time. Great selection of Kong brand dog toys. My lab loves going there to shop for new stuff. read more

The staff persons present were SO over the top helpful, we were truly amazed. Especially Courtney and Morgan, who answered questions as well as they could, helped us return the wrong supplies and gather the right supplies, and helped us save money too! Petco has lost ALL my business. Their vaccine clinic is an absolute joke. I've been bringing both my pugs there for 8 years and 6 years respectively. They said since my one pug has some swelling from a shot many years ago, I would have to take him some where else? RIDICULOUS - I've been getting shots for my dogs there for 8 years. So I have nothing but the strongest language for that clinic and for Petco for supporting such stupid behavior. You'll lost my vaccine business, my dog supplies business, and my grooming business for both pugs. I'll happily go too Kahoots and support a local business instead.
