The person was surprised to hear we had a appointment and went back in to speak to the groomer. When he came back out he basically said "Please don't shoot the messenger but the groomer can't see you now. Can you come back at 11:30? This review is for the customer service I received at Petco in Rockville this evening. Christian was juggling working the register on his own and helping customers. He went out of his way to ask if I needed help. He loaded up a 40 gal fish-tank onto a special cart, rung me up, and even helped me load it into my van once I pulled up. The food clerk was very kind and helpful. He took time to answer any and all questions my mom had. However, this great experience was ruined by Blair at checkout when I informed him that one of the mice appeared very ill. I work in research with mice every day and this is a case a vet would want to know about ASAP. It was hunched in posture, breathing abnormally and had a rough hair oat which indicates malaise. Blair said "It probably got his butt kicked since they do that" then proceeded to have an attitude the rest of the checkout period. Since Petco is near my favorite Aldi's we stopped in recently to check out collars and leashes. I forgot to measure my dogs' necks (duh) so got totally confused about which size to buy. However on the way out I remembered the bin with dog treats. I've been ordering their training treats on-line and thought I would try some bulk treats. My dogs are small so narrowed down my choices to two. I picked the one with the least amount of ingredients and filled a plastic bag about two-thirds full. My husband went to pay while I looked around some more and when he was done he announced the treats were less than two dollars, which was a lot less than what I'd been paying. So next step was to see if the pooches liked them and they did. The staff at this Petco is always helpful and now that I will be shopping in that area I will definitely be stocking up on more pet treats there. And I will remember to measure the dogs' necks before I go next time. read more

It's a gamble if you go anywhere between 6 PM and closing time. The store used to be open until 9 PM, then every now and then they had signs up that said unfortunately they had to close at 8 PM. I came now with 20 minutes to spare to closing time and there's a sign that says due to unfortunate circumstances they had to close at 6 PM. Very unpredictable. When is there ever a good time to go to this location? I'm asking because I really want to know. If the line isn't long, there's always only one check out open. This time, there was one check out open and the guy was behaving as if he was only good for stocking and let me stand there for 45 seconds (count it.... count to 45. I'll wait.) ignoring me while he slapped labels on packages with his labeler. I walked away to see if there was anyone else in the store that I could ask to ring me up since I got the impression he didn't want to. Of course, there wasn't. So I went back. I'm the only person there. So why it's not obvious that I want to check out is beyond me. So, I stood back where I was standing and a lady started talking to him and then she said she wasn't in line. We went to Petco 2 months ago to get two guinea pigs for my 13-year old son. They both died within a week of each other. The vet thinks they may have had a parasite before we bought them. The staff was friendly. I just have a few concerns on how they treat my dog. I have a Siberian husky who just turned 5 but honestly he still acts like a puppy. He's very friendly, hyperactive, but whenever he senses that we're taking him there he just won't budge and begins to cry. I thought it was like the vet and he'll get over it. We groom our dog at home but have had a really hard time figuring out how to trim his nails properly. We decided to bring our dog in for a nail trim and buff. Max was incredible!!! He is truly the dog whisperer because he somehow got my very scary toy poodle (rescue) to trust him. My dog, Toby, has always been afraid of anyone outside of our family. So, I was delighted when Max took so much time and care to allow Toby to get comfortable. Max also recommended a style of haircut that he thought would look best based on Toby's body shape and hair texture. I take my Jolly here! The cashiers always have treat dishes out. You can find adoption events here too! The staff seems to have little change over, so they get to know you and your dog especially at the Dog salon. I go to the salon so Jolly can get her nails cut and grind for a low price of $15. No nicks so far! She needed to stop tap dancing on my wood floors ha-ha. The prices are competitive and tend to have a coupon section in the back of the store by the foods. They have a great selection of dog food and treats, Jolly enjoys the treat fill your bag station, her favorite is creme filled vanilla cookies, but they have a selection of about 8 other kinds. They have live birds and kitten/cats. The store is always clean and typically stocked. Hope you get a chance to stop by and don't forget to bring your furry friend. read more

Maybe it's the politicized extended unemployment benefits are now hurting businesses across the country. Visiting this store yesterday in the middle of the afternoon it appeared as they are going out of business. Shelves are half empty and few employees were seen. Boxes and boxes of product are laying in the isles to be navigated around. Take a look at some of the previous reviews stating the same issues with nothing being done. This interaction with a worker occurred on Monday, 10/6/14 at 10:45 am (yes, a very specific time because I would like for management to realize who was staffing and what kind of an extremely incompetent worker was working at that time). I tried scheduling a hair appointment for a Bichon puppy. Sarcastically and rudely, he scoffs "you're puppy needs a hair cut?" His hair is growing over his eyes, what do you expect me to do? He tried getting me not to come and further displayed sarcastic and rude attitude. Right away, I scheduled an appointment at another site because this unprofessional, terrible excuse of a worker. I called the next day, out of courtesy, to cancel my appointment. And according to a female worker there, there had been no records of a scheduled appointment for me. This worker must get fired and at the very least disciplinary action. Furthermore, the management needs to do a proper job of training its employees on how to treat their customers with respect and professionalism. I have been a loyal customer for many years and will be taking my business elsewhere, as well as spreading the word about the unprofessional nature of this company. read more

I had a terrible experience at this location this past Saturday. I hate having to give this place only 1 star because in the past, I have had good experiences here. However, this recent incident left me feeling super annoyed and uncomfortable. Basically, a manager of a department was being extremely rude regarding a misprint in price. Having worked in retail in the past, I know that when a product price is misprinted lower, the customer is given the lower price (especially if the lower price is not a huge loss for the store - i.e. $10). This "manager" was extremely rude to us about it. It almost appeared like he engaged in what felt like a power struggle with me. He also did not call upon the general manager to work the situation out (until I made a call to complain, I was under the impression he was the general manager). He kept offering $5 off coupons. However, we indicated it is not about the money, that his tone, mannerism, and lack of professionalism is what we truly were frustrated with at that point. The schedule may change on you based on trainer availability so it's always a good idea to call ahead. They also publish a monthly calendar at their training sign up station. Arrive early or promptly because I have seen this class fill up fast and the trainer has turned ppl away for safety and sanity reasons. What about the rest of the store??!?! This part of the review is for Max in the grooming department. My pup who right now looks like a homeless neglected teddy bear REALLY needed a serious paw/nail and sanitary trim. I called around Saturday morning last minute and couldn't find any places that had availability that was a reasonable price. The lowest price I was quoted for nails, paws and sanitary was $25. Even though the reviews didn't look good for Petco, since I live nearby I thought I would give it a try. I called in and spoke with a gentlemen named Max who very nice and helpful. We talked about what it was exactly I needed, and he suggested that I stop by after 12:30 PM when their schedule was the lightest. He quoted me $16 for the trim that I needed. I walked in around 1:00 PM to a FULL grooming salon. Every groomer had their hands full with a dog and there was a line. Max then checked me in, put his current grooming appointment on hold and took in my pup who desperately needed it. He quoted me 5 minutes and so I walked around the store. I thought I will give him 10 minutes just because 5 minutes with my dog seems impossible based on her previous reputation. Nope, he was serious. 5 minutes was all he needed. He trimmed her nails, paws and her tail area. I peeked in the window a bit and she was snipping at him for cutting her nails which she does. He was a super good sport and handled her like a pro. Every other Petco I've been to has struggled with her, or needed more than one person to hold her down. He was so gentle and she let him do what he needed to do. I normally do her full body shave and trim at home. But after our experience with Max, I would consider coming back to have him do her full cut. He was quick. Had a good attitude. Didn't seem stressed. And genuinely seemed as if he liked his job. He's a winner! As for the store as a whole: It's a smaller Petco and very easy store to navigate. I only have come here to buy dog food and other dog products. They always have what I need. I'm always able to get in and out smoothly. The employees are nice and efficient. The only downfall is parking which can be way out of control on busy days. Otherwise, I'm a fan! read more

Its really hard to find things in this store. Items of the same category are found in different areas, shelves aren't stocked properly, some items are missing prices. The biggest offender: I have found expired cat food for sale on their shelves more than once. I was in last week, and after a few minutes on the floor, on my hands and knees trying to sort through the cat food which was not stocked properly, I realized there was no need to do this. I got in my car, drove to their competition, and dropped $80 there. I hope management is reading this. read more

Went at 9:00 with appointment for my Maltese. Was up the street getting coffee received call from Indy that she needed to cut hair shorter or needed to add conditioner to dog hair to be smoother? Then she stated that the puppy was bitten? This puppy never bitten anyone. I went back and took my puppy to another groomer in Rockville and was groomed and no issues. New groomer I went said that Petco blades are worn and not properly clean and that hurts the dogs. Never going back to Petco! read more

I've actually been here twice, to get litter and food for my kitty. I also found adorable little toys for her on both occasions, and everything is relatively inexpensive! The store is set up in an organized way and I appreciated the variety of cat foods they have! Service was very friendly, and what I love the most is that they have carts, so it wasn't as difficult hauling those heavy kitty litter bags to my car. I'd definitely visit again! read more

We won a fish at the Frederick County fair in August. In September I bought a 5 gallon tank from our neighborhood Petsmart, set it up and let Spike (our fish) get use to it. I then decided I wanted a friend for Spike. When we arrived there was an adoption fair wrapping up outside. Yes, dogs and cats are awesome... but I can't have one because of my building's rules... please don't make me feel like a criminal for that. Because of all the stuff outside we had difficulty finding someone to assist us in the fish department. Finally we found someone and we told him the tank set up and said we have what we believe is a goldfish... he told me that 1 fish in the 5 gallon tank is enough and refused to sell me another fish. This is despite everything online saying another fish in the 5 gallon would be ok... but whatever. We picked up a few other small things we needed and headed to check out. Like everyone else the line at the cashier was ridiculously long. Seriously there has to be a better pet store! read more

My BF and I stopped by here this weekend to pick up some fish gravel, but I couldn't find the right size I wanted, and there was nobody in sight to help. I was also interested in getting a tank, but there was nobody to help, and I couldn't find it. Luckily, I don't have a pet because if I did, I definitely wouldn't be getting any help from this store, and it was difficult to find the stuff I needed myself (i.e. specific gravel and tanks). For starters - I was wrong. I was late for my dog's grooming appointment. This is a thing in this time that we're living in of Zoom conference calls and rushing back home to grab a forgotten mask. So I'm putting that "I was wrong" right upfront. With that admitted, customer service is still a thing. "Hello," "Good afternoon!", "May I help you?" - that kind of thing. "Hi, wow, we are sorry - we can fit you in another day - how about (insert another day here)". This how you keep repeat customers. I can't imagine a lower level of customer service possible than this grooming salon. I got rolled eyes, funky funky attitude, customer service level at zero. I could have handled the late fee, extra sweet tip, etc. But eye rolling and funky attitude sucks. When you have customers who are "wrong," it's an even better opportunity to be a great employee - to help the customer understand there's a solution that works well for everyone - and makes the customer want to keep coming back because of the great level of understanding and customer service. This review is for Petco Grooming Salon. The person who set our first appointment up over the phone, patiently answered our countless questions about groomers, facilities, service options, and fees. They were able to accommodate our two cocker spaniels on the same day and time, which was never possible at other places. The day of our first appointment, we arrived a few minutes early to go over our dogs needs with the groomers. Their customer service was great and they handled our dogs with care. We were surprised to see that the grooming and crating areas were separated by a glass window wall so customers could see how their dogs are handled in the back. Once we picked our dogs up they were neither stressed, nor restless. We have been taking our dogs for grooming at Petco in Rockville MD ever since our first visit back in 2012. Every time we arrive to the store front, our dogs lead the way to the grooming salon, they walk around the salon as if they were home, and they happily go to the crating area in the back. The groomers always do a great job dolling our Cielo and Bella up! read more

I bought live fish here twice, both times they all died within a few days and the second time they gave my aquarium ich. The staff seems knowledgeable and experienced but they're hard to find. All the times I have gone here it takes me a few minutes of pacing the aisles to finally find someone and when I do, they disappear again right after answering my question. My Maltese named Bella (age nine) and I have lived in the D.C. metro area for five plus years now, and we haven't manged to find a groomer that LISTENS until last year: TIFFANY at Petco is simply wonderful. Trust me, I've been everywhere in the area, including a few too many over-priced salons in Bethesda, Arlington, and DC. My advice in terms of using a groomer is to be descriptive on paper, so that it can be referenced later on. In doing so with Tiffany, I've never been let down (and it's amazing how many groomers are unable to follow simple instructions). Respect to Petco, and job well done. Flexibility and easy parking are added bonuses. Take a chance with Tiffany at Petco in Congressional, I truly believe it's worth your time and money, not to mention your baby will be left in good hands. read more

Walked into the store to grooming, manager of grooming is the rudest most unprofessional human being I have met. She did not want to service my dog, made excuses until nearby employee stepped in and stated she would do my maltipoo nail trim very apparent a manger did not like this as she stated don't you have someone, she was sitting in the bench and stated no she does not and can assist, meanwhile manager continues to tell me she blocked me for online appts as I cancel too often, I asked her what she's talking about I've never cancelled/rescheduled less than 24 hours notice, she spoke over me stated it does not matter anytime I reschedule it's like a cancellation and it messes up her reporting she also sees I went to another petco location, I stated that was when I was in CA visiting, she didn't like that either stated I'm messing up her reporting and I should go there back and fourth eventually I stated so your basically in a nice way telling me to go f myself is that it? I stated this as she would not let me get a word in, attacked me from the moment I walked in not sure why... she made it clear she calls the shots, she continued to tell me to cancel my vital care as she changed the benefits this is when I told her I never consented to change my plan from unlimited clippings, she said I can call corporate if I don't like it then she instructed the employee to stop clipping my pet and hand him back to me as I used profanity... I stated you have 3 witnesses I didn't use profanity towards you, I never said you I said myself, she then stated she is blocking my from the entire company and to get out. Whaaatt?!! I stated if she has something against me that's btwn her and me why is she taking it out in my dog, you can't leave a dog 1/2 clipped that's not healthy nor comfortable she demanded the employee stop clipping his nails and told me to take him to an animal hospital to finish, the store manager walked in and without any question or letting me get a word out or asking what happened he opened the side door and told me to leave the store immediately. Excuse me?!! I'm the one who got attacked the manager is clearly abusing her authority and without question you back her up and tell me to leave?? The grooming manager proceeds to tell me she's not charging me, I said I already prepaid for the service she told it does not matter and she banned me to get out! I immediately called corporate how dare you traumatize me and my dog for no reason other than your reporting and me going to another location. I have never been so disrespected and belittled in my life. The amount of business I do with petco and the way I was treated today the way my dogs health was not even taken into consideration due to a persons ego and power trip, the way I was let down by the store manager not even speaking one word to me other than get out... whaaaaat?!!! How and what happened and just what?! I'm so confused. I didn't fight I didn't yell and I was talked at and put down from the moment I walked in... I mean I don't care about your reporting and numbers... if you asked me to help you out and told me how your numbers and reporting works I would have helped you except your mad because I reschedule a week in advance and apparently that counts as cancellation for your reporting and then your mad b/c I go to another location out of state so you block me?!! And you try to make it as hard as possible to get my dog in you tell me no openings until next week, when you staff is sitting and states she's available and starts even after you give her the nastiest look of disapproval b/c she stepped up and tried to turn around a bad experience. Who hired and trained you?! I just don't understand. You tell me to cancel my vital care and look for a reason to stop the service keep pushing buttons... if you had a bad day don't come to work and sure as hell don't take it out on customers and the for the store manager to not ask one question or allow me to speak instead open the door and tell me to leave immediately and don't come back?!!! You would think I attacked someone or yelled... whaaaat?!! Just what happened and how can you neglect the health of my pet?! You stated you don't care about his well being? This review is for the grooming salon only. I have a nervous dog and I wanted to avoid a long day for him at the groomers. This Petco offers expedited grooming Mondays-Fridays which means that the grooming time is supposed to be cut in half, and the dogs don't have to stay caged for very long. Sounds great, right? I figured I'd drop my dog off for an 8am appointment, pick him up a couple hours later, then head to work. The first time I went in, the groomer never showed up. She apparently called out at the last minute and no one bothered calling to cancel her appointments. Stuff happens though so it's fine - no need to get on Yelp. But then I figured I'd give it one more shot. Today, I arrived promptly at 8am. The groomer didn't arrive until 8:15. I'm not a morning person so I can understand, although she didn't even acknowledge it or apologize. But then it turns out they didn't schedule me correctly as an expedited appt so I'd have to leave my dog there for the full length of a typical appointment. The whole point was to avoid that! All she could offer was to re-book the appointment. Why would I give this salon a third chance? I'd rather pay more elsewhere for some actual service. read more
