Went into Petco this evening. (1/3/24) I wanted to purchase an all-natural flea killer for my couch and blankets. The price on the website is $15.39.The in-store retail is $26.99. The lady behind the counter made me wait as the people behind me were served. No help at all. She could have easily checked the price. Instead, she called for the manager. He said we sell at the same price as on the website. Have the person at the register find the price. The same person who made me wait. Her new line was 15 people deep. He said he would check the price. For what? So that I could return to the new line 15 people deep. Only one person at the register. Other employees surely should have been called to assist. Nope. Usually the customer service is good. I was here on 5/31 and the girl who helped me(who I can't remember the name but has pink hair) was so sweet and kind and very helpful. But when I came in today to return a item the man who helped me( older) named Steve was so rude,yelling at me when I entered my pin instead of just pressing the green button for my card (which is horrible for card security) and was just blatantly rude and inhospitable. This is no regular pet store. This is the best pet store. After an urgent vet visit, I needed to buy a crate same day. I found an extra large crate, available in stock at this location, which was exceptional. I opted to purchase online and pick up in the store, (20% discount), and it only took 15 minutes to get ready. When I arrived for pickup, I realized the crate was huge. Not only was it too heavy for me to carry, but it was also so large that I didn't know if it would fit in my car. I was hesitant to ask for help and didn't want to inconvenience the staff, but the person in charge of pick-up (didn't catch her name, so sorry) insisted that I get help. I feel so grateful to her. On top of that, an all-star employee, Justin, was recruited to help me lift the crate, wheel it into the parking lot, and load it into my car. He went through all that effort, even when it was uncertain whether it would fit. Keep in mind that I was stressed with my pet in my backpack and absolutely useless in the process. Thank you, Justin. No one ever wants to start the day with an urgent vet visit and finish it in San Francisco traffic, but you made my day. I hope you know that I am so thankful for your help. read more

Went into the store to purchase a two small fish for my 10 gallon tank and was refused service because my tank was too small. I was just replacing the fish I already had for five years that died I have another fish in the same tank that is 15 years old (not joking) and the two other fish in there are tiny tetras 5 years old. I explained to the person that I know how to take care of fish very well and fish have a tendency of lasting very long under my care. She said she couldn't sell me any fish. It was really frustrating and disappointing since I had my kids with me. I used to go here all the time but I'm not sure anymore. I am a science teacher with a masters degree but somehow lack the skills to add fish to my thriving ecosystem according to this location. read more

Thursday, March 18 2021 at 3:30pm a disgruntled employee took their frustration out on my elderly mother. She brought in a foster dog and poor thing peed on the floor. When she told "this guy" about what happened he humiliated her in front of the whole store, yelling, and ultimately made her feel terrible (which she already did since it was an accident, this kind of thing does happen in pet stores ya know). She offered to clean up the pee herself and the guy not only made her do it, but then told her she didn't do a good job. Imagine, a seventy year old on hands and knees trying to clean up this pee with this guy unleashing his anger on her. I am disgusted with the way she was treated and would encourage the manager of this store to take a closer look at how customers are treated. read more

I signed my puppy up for the training classes and was surprised to see that the classes are held in front of the store next to the entrance and registers where there are many distractions including people walking in and out, people checking out, announcements over the loud speaker, and birds chirping. This did not create a comfortable environment for the puppies in the class. Having taken several classes at the SPCA with highly experienced and skilled trainers, I saw red flags that prompted me to stop going to the class and request a refund. Some red flags included: -Not safely facilitating the puppy play - there was aggressive behavior that escalated without intervention -After letting a scuffle escalate, picking up the smaller dog and holding it above the smaller dog -Throwing treats on the ground during the puppy play While the prices are less expense than other places, we are gladly paying more for classes with knowledgeable and seasoned trainers. read more

Possibly the worst managed petco I have been to, it sucks that it's the closest one to me. The employees flat out ignore you standing there, I asked for help multiple times about aquiring fish to multiple people and they always say that they'll send someone to help and never do, but continue shit chatting with each other and go back to whatever work they are pretending to be doing. I left after 20 or so minutes. This is the FOURTH or FIFTH time that it happens usually is while I'm making other purchases so I let it go but this time no-one was helping any customers so they really didn't have an excuse except for being lazy and trying to hand to each other the load. Really annoyed and disappointed that trying to feed my animals has to turn into a day long process due to the inability of employees that don't seem to know how to do their jobs. Greg helped me out wonderfully today, kindly asking if I needed help, and assisting me with my purchase of a sweater for my dog. It did not fit her when I had her try it on in my car just outside, so I went back in and he was happily able to help me with an exchange for the right size, all with kindness. I also appreciated Steve who smoothly signed me up for their rewards program when I first purchased a name tag for my dog, as well as the helpful woman who directed me to the dog tag machine despite being busy with stocking items. This is the second time I've taken my puppy to get groomed. He got a full bath and groom. He had red patches under his left eye that were extremely red and irritated. After taking him home, he kept spazzing out and sitting down. The groomer even said he kept doing that as she brought him out. He was extremely uncomfortable all day and held his pee/poo until he really had to go. All day today, he has been doing the same routine of being really visibly uncomfortable and sitting down, and didn't want to walk without sitting down every couple steps. The grooming manager provided us with some spray to help with the itching but she said everything looked normal... doesn't make up for his extreme discomfort for over a day after his grooming. Despite the convenience in location, I will not be returning to Petco for another groom. read more

I seriously hate this Petco store and salon. I cannot schedule an appointment to get my dog's nails trimmed online, it just doesn't allow ONLY a nail trim on the site, they don't take walk-ins and they never answer the phone so I can schedule the appointment. I call the regular store to see if the grooming salon is even open and they put me on forever hold. It's just not worth the aggravation. I now take my dog to Petsmart, much better service. read more

FYI my two kids and I went to buy (1) yes only (1) of the 36cent feeder goldfish for their 20 gallon tank which current only has (1) goldfish maybe 1/4 inch long. The manager refused to sell myself and kids a single 36cent gold fish stating the fish could grow up to 18inches long and only (1) goldfish can be in a 20 gallon tank and putting (2) goldfish in a 20 gallon tank is cruel for the fish. Yet, I can buy these same fish by the dozen to be fed to other fish. However, per the manager putting (2) of these goldfish in a nice, established tank as a pet is cruel??? In any case we were refused to purchase a fish that my kids brought their own money to buy. Great experience for the kids read more

We went to Petco for private dog training (because of Covid) and Loti was awesome! She connected with our dog and he learned the commands quickly. She clearly explained the steps and I loved that she was prepared for every class. Good training is not just where, but with who. read more

I will never shop at Petco again. Today (Labor Day Monday 2023) my 13 year old daughter and I arrived at Petco in Lakeshore Plaza (SF) at 6:31 pm (literally, 6:31 pm). Sign on the door stated "Sorry for the inconvenience but we are closing at 6:30 today." We could see through the window that several people were still in line at the cash register. My daughter and I waived at an employee through the glass door and we were able to explain that we just wanted to buy a Snuggle Puppy (little stuffed animal with a heartbeat that soothes puppies and helps them sleep) for an eight week old puppy that we brought home today and that it would take 2 minutes. We checked the Petco website before we went and it showed that the Snuggle Puppy was in stock and that they were open until 8:00 pm. They turned us away. read more

If you love your puppy, Stay away from this franchise. Find a personal Reputable puppy dog trainer. Do not let these scammers near your dogs if you want training. They will F--- up your dog like they did mine. Throwing down a trail of treats on the floor does NOT train a dog on a leash to listen to the dog owner. It just teaches the dog to constantly search, scrounge and eat anything off the floor. These awful employees are merely getting paid by the hour don't know anything about puppies or adult dogs, Don't care about your dog and will LITERALLY Teach your dog BAD behavior and bad habits that you will never be able to un-train. From PERSONAL experience here. I don't even care about the cost. It is the moronic, useless, scam they call puppy training or what they pass off as training. They should be ashamed. Big selection of pet supplies and friendly staff. Petco is great they've got dog food cat food. They have a huge selection of pet toys beds and other accessories pretty much your One stop shop for any pets you might have. The one drawback to this location is the parking situation is pretty bad there's very little parking right in front of the Petco and what parking there is is very tricky to maneuver into. read more

I'm still coming to this store, after years and years. The staff is so friendly, that's my main reason. Sometimes the store doesn't have quite what I'm looking for, but everyone i go, the staff is soooo friendly. I come in once a month for dog food for my two huskies. We need lots of treats, food, toys, and bathing stuff. Only once in awhile will there not be something I need. Overall, still coming here after all these years. read more

Lily was brilliant! My fiancé and I came in looking for a pet to take home and at first we wanted to get a turtle but she let us know that they're pretty high maintenance and we had quite a way to travel home. She suggested a bearded dragon and he is adorable! She helped us grab everything we needed all the while giving us tips for care and whatnot and was extremely helpful and I'm glad she was the one who assisted us. I've found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Place is clean. The store meets my needs. I've only gone to this Petco to get cat supplies - food, litter, toys, etc.. They seem to be reducing their stock of the Hill's Science Diet brand though, which is the only brand my cat likes to eat and which I trust, so there isn't a lot of variety available with that particular brand. I have noticed they have increased their stock of natural or organic cat food. Wish my cat liked to eat those. One note: the first set of pics used for this store posting are not of the actual store. Expect an older and smaller space than what's shown. I see there's photos of the actual location as well but you have to look further into the photo listings. read more

I placed an online order from PETCO through an amazon listing 2 weeks ago for a pet crate. I was billed, but the item never shipped. After talking to Petco they said they put in a refund request, which they did not (confirmed with Amazon) the item is still listed on Amazon as an in stock item, but Petco refuses to ship me one. Why I am not sure. They flat out admitted to me that they printed a shipping label with tracking info, but never actually shipped my purchase. The animal habitats were disgusting looked like bad. I felt horrible for the little guys that had to live in them, not only that but there were a few dead ones spotted until I told the staff about it. They removed but you could tell the tanks hadn't been cleaned or had fresh mesh under the rodents it was old stuff stacked on older. Hope they resolve this issue soon it was animal abuse. read more

Don't let these people waste your time. I called and SPECIFICALLY asked for a full grooming I even explained to the woman that she had gotten into some wax and it needed to be cut out. So I booked an 11am appointment. I drive the 20+ minutes to get there and when I walk in no one acknowledges me. No big I thought they're probably busy, but as soon as the guy walks in behind me they start helping him... Wtf When I FINALLY get helped the girl helping me tells me my appointment is only for a bath. Are you kidding me? Basically they want me to come in twice and pay twice and waste my time. By the time I got out of there all the other grooming places were booked up. But I guess it was a blessing in disguise because I just found out the city of San Francisco is suing them and the Petco on Bryant for ANIMAL CRUELTY. Real cool Petco. Like most cats, mine does not want her nails cut, but Jennifer has a way of talking to her and holding her, and quickly cutting off the nails. Jennifer also offers good advice for overall cat health. They don't always have what I need in stock (looking at you, fish department), but I don't mind making several trips a week to see what's new. The staff is pretty friendly, although sometimes I think they're understaffed and could use more people in the fish department so I don't look like a weirdo staring at the guppies until I get helped, but other than that, what can I say? read more

A great place to come a find toys and gifts for your dog, but on everything else the prices seem a little to high . Sometimes even on the toys. I love this place because it's close to my house and I don't have to go far for a Percocet. Hence Unleshed Petco. But some of the prices are really exuberant. For example, a thin small San Francisco Giants collar for a Puggle costs $25 . To me that's is extremely expensive. I got it anyway because I wanted for my dog, and the store made it easy not to go out and look for it, but it would be great if they could lower their prices. On their food, they also only carry high quality food products , like science labs, and blue buffalo. And even those are extremely expensive at this site, as you can find them cheaper at Safeway right down the street. My favorite part about this shop again are the toys. They have Long toys there, for a decent price, which are the best price for dogs. These are the toys that dogs can't chew up . They also have some really funny looking to us like star wars chew toys.
