Went in to buy medium size crickets for my sons gecko- due to the cold weather my normal go to of pet land didn't have any for a couple days so I trekked across the street to see if they had any. They had mediums only as their small and large also came in dead and I was told the mediums were "cold but alive"... Okay. I ordered my usual 3 dozen thinking all crickets cost the same... Nope! Got to the register and found out it was .16 per medium cricket! Ouch! To add insult to injury- the gal helping me counted out cricket by cricket and kept bouncing the bag as she did this. Cricket buyers know you can't knock them around they are fragile... So I kept saying can't you just give me a little extra to make up for the "cold" crickets that will prolly die... She said she did... Then she asked if I wanted cardboard which we never get and she proceeds to tell me in a snippy way..." We tell people all the time that crickets live longer with the cardboard in there but no one listens..." Um thanks but not necessary it's just a pain to transfer the crickets from the bag to their cage when that's in there... I wish they would of had signs posted of the cost of these crickets. Petland in .99 per dozen and they always give you extras and they don't bounce the bag full of crickets and they give you a free dozen for every 12 dozen you buy! No need for attitude and high prices petco! One star for having crickets otherwise you have a lot to learn from your competitors! read more

I do not drive a car and so I come here on a regular basis since it's an ideal location for me but honestly this is the most disorganized, unsanitary and poorly stocked Petco I have ever been to during all my many travels in various cities. The staff here simply is either overly enthusiastic to help when you obviously do not want or require assistance or they just brush you over and coldly act as if you are an inconvenience if you actually do not need some help. One new employee actually hounded me two weeks ago chasing me from one end of the store to the other as if he was trying to case me or think I was there to "steal". Yes it was that obnoxious. I come here to shop, pay and leave because of all the petcos this one just is not one of my favorites hence this review which I feel obligated to write. There is a stench at this location of urine perhaps because they conduct dog training here. I will continue to shop quickly and leave. I must also add the lack of appealing treats for your dog is appalling. End of rant if you have to come here because of the proximity good luck. read more

I have used this Petco for grooming services and for food and toy purchases for my dog for the past 3 years. They have been unfailingly helpful and polite and happy to see my dog Cassie as well as myself. They never fail to greet her by name and pet her and generally make both of us feel special. Their grooming services are excellent and Jessica the manager is particularly wonderful. I have done obedience training there as well and Cassie is always perfectly behaved when she is in this Petco not necessarily any Petco. I highly recommend their services and appreciate the extra attention they give their customers. read more

Our lovely lab puppy was so pretty after her bath and nail trimming at Petco. Salma didn't seem at all phased by our puppy's rambunctiousness. She took the time to pet and calm our little girl before she led her away for her bath. I'll definitely return to the Schaumburg Corners Petco. Our puppy had a gentle grooming experience, and I saved $15 dollars with my Petco Reward Dollars. Can't beat that! read more

Jessica in a grooming did a great job with my dogs today. It was our puppies first time and she was patient and made him comfortable throughout the experience. They came home so soft and smelled amazing. Would definitely recommend Jessica if your in need of grooming. read more

The girls here are wonderful with our dog - especially Jessica! (our regular groomer). She is very thorough, very knowledgeable about his skin issues and takes great care of our dog. We only have to say her name and he heads for the door. They do a great job on his nails also. We can bring him in all dirty and stinky and they do a great job of scrubbing him clean again. I took my Great Dane to Petco for a bath recently and was very impressed with the greeting we received from the salon staff especially Jessica. Jessica was very knowledgeable with my Great Danes bread and gave me advice on different foods that are breed specific. Jessica convinced me to do the deshedding treatment since my dog has been shedding so bad. When I walked in to get my dog I was so impressed with how shiny and healthy his coat looked. Went here looking for an invisible fence system for my dog at our new house. Was met by not one, not two, but three employees who knew absolutely nothing about them and weren't shy to say they knew nothing about them. They said they don't sell many of them and one pointed out the reason why is because they normally recommend to train the dog. I don't need your philosophy on the training of my dog, he's fine, I just want to make sure he doesn't wander into my neighbors yard or chase a rabbit. Why would Petco carry something that none of their employees know anything about? I'll still get one, but definitely not from there. Or anything. read more

I adopted a cat from here about a year ago. It was a very fast process and the cat was great. A couple weeks later I called the women who runs the adoption center and asked when she wanted me to pay the adoption fee. She sounded a little guilty and said I could just keep the cat. I was slightly confused but didn't think much of it. A couple of months ago I took the cat to the vet for his shots and a checkup. The vet said he was very healthy but he was not 3 years old like the women had told me. He was closer to 8 or 10. I was not too upset because he is an amazing cat. The lady gave him to me for free so I don't have much to complain about. I am just glad he is healthy. I know cats live a long time too. 5 stars. read more

Jessica had been grooming our dog for 2 1/2 years at Patco and prior to moving to Hoffman Estates we had him groomed at Petco in Elk Grove, CA (5 years). We took him in to be groomed and she declined to groom him because he had a scab on his ear and suggested taking him to the vet, which we did. Found out it was allergies and it was not an infection. The Vet said that getting him groomed and using a special shampoo (which we alway brought with us) would do him good. After visiting the vet I called to get him an apt. that is when I was made aware of the policy. Never once did she tell me that Petco could not groom him with the scab. I was a bit upset and told her I would call back once he was healed. When I called back 2 weeks later I was informed that they could no longer accept my dog for grooming. I was accused of an altercation with the groomer, which never happened. I was in tears and tried to explain that there was never an altercation non did I swear at the groomer. My husband was with me when we took him in and when I called to make the appointment. My dog loved going to get groomed at Petco and we always requested Jessica. Our dog is a part of our family and all we wanted was to get our dog groomed at a place he was comfortable. We always were on time for our apt, promptly picked him up and tipped Jessica well. Both my husband and myself reached out to the store Manager Nathan, and explained what happened and try to come to some sort of resolution. He basically told us to find somewhere else to get our dog groomed. A store manager should wanted to resolve any issues and not turn away good customers. Why Jessica would fabricate a story to lose a good client is beyond comprehension. Based on the way we were treated and falsely accused we would be very weary of recommend Petco to anyone. read more

I just love this place when it comes to grooming. They take their time to make sure everything is done. They also paint your doggies nails!! I was super excited. Reasonable price for packages. When it comes to shopping here there is almost never anyone at the register and always have to wait a few minutes. The toys are a little pricey for me but good quality. I usually go to PetSmart for my dogs nails. However a friend gave me a free nail trim coupon at Petco to be used by 12/31/18. I have heard and seen very bad press all over about Petco's services. However on 12/30/18 I went in for the nail trim after calling to verify they had walk in appointments and they said I just needed to provide proof of rabie shots. After arriving and waiting for 10 minutes while they were servicing other dogs the girl informs me I need the paperwork and not just the tag for proof of rabie shots. I explained my frustration with rushing over coming before having to work and with my coupon expiring, let alone no one being specific on the paperwork as if it's something they do require regularly they should inform customers, especially new ones. The girl gave me a free nail trim good for a month so it made up for the coupon expiring, but not my time and frustration. Today on 1/1/19 I came back with my dog for a trim. There was no one in the salon, but I could see and hear these teenagers working there just chatting behind this glass door. I waited for 10 minutes and not once did they acknowledge me as I know the guy at least saw me. From the time I was waiting for a good 5 minutes they kept paging for grooming on line 1 and not once did the 2 behind the door react to it so my guess the customer hung up. I was tempted to use my phone to call the store myself but left it in the car which was a good thing for Petco as I would've taken pictures of how dirty the messy the place was, along with a customer release form just sitting for anyone to read another customers information which is compliance. Frustrated and with an impatient dog I went to find a manager. I came across another teenager who I explained things to as claimed he was a manager as I asked him for a store manager. No way he could've been a manger at his age and how he handle things, but he said he'd go get the salon lady. He walked into the back glass door talking with the girl and guy who had been back there. By this time another customer and his dog came. Some lady, the only one seeming to be a legal adult came out from the back and took the other customer and at this point I was further done! I asked the cashier, (another teenager) on the way out if they had a real store manager in the store? She said we have many managers and asked what I wanted as she seemed not too concerned so I told her never mind I'll just talk with corporate and left. I drove down the street to PetSmart with no wait and mentioned my story to the lady who shook her head, laughed and said she hears those things all the time from other customers about PetCo as she couldn't believe the way I was treated both times and said they could've just offered to call you vet the first time you went there, which is so true. I was in and out in less then 10 minutes at PetSmart with great service and customer service which clearly lacks from Petco. I'm a store manger in retail myself with over 20 years experience in customer service, services, compliance, etc.. I know how a store should be run and how customers should be treated. When dealing with pets and providing services things are that more crucial and important. It's easy to complain, especially in retail as I'm all about positivity and appreciating people's work. However it's clear at this establishment it lacks strong management, if any management at all in the building? It lacks mature associates, cleanliness and people who understand compliance and basic customer service. This store needs to be shutdown! read more

We came in with a troubled and stubborn pit bull. Three years old but lived just a shelter for more than half her life. We have only had her for a couple months. We came to PetCo to primarily get a harness. We were having a hard time fitting our girl. So we asked for help. Cory was extraordinary, she not only helped us with the harness, she pointed out a better one to buy. She really took her time with us, listened to our needs, noticed things we didn't. Extremely knowledgeable, informative and compassionate to our new pit. This store has new regular at least weekly customer because of her and the rest of the wonderful staff like the groomer Ashley. Ashley was gentle and kind to our pup! The cashier (Im sorry I didn't get her name) was also super sweet. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE!!!! read more

There is not much going on during the week but on weekends Petco allows rescues to bring their dogs there so its nice then (since I bring my dog with me). Their prices are not the same as their online promotions and the taxes in Cook County are higher (over 10% now) and they should have more competative pricing or demos or samples here. They had a open floor cat room which now is closed and I rather liked that for both the cats to move around in and for adopters too. They have cats in cages still for adoption. I wish the stores were bigger but they seem smaller than their competition. They should offer more specials with grooming or play dates with dogs or even parties tied in with holidays (i.e. Valentines, St. Pat's, Easter, etc.) to aggressively sell food/treats and spur adoptions. read more

STOP SHOPPING HERE! I moved away to Chicago and come to this location to use their self service wash to avoid going to the traffic jammed one in the city. I drove 30+minutes on Friday and again today to find out that when the groomer decides to leave early the self service wash gets closed down because no one in the store can rinse a sink after a use. On Friday she closed down an hour early @8 and today I called at 6:24pm and she was already gone when the store closes at 9. I had to drive another 15 minutes to the Hoffman estates location who's self service wash has the standard hours the same as the store hours (which is how it had always been for all stores). I don't know which made me more upset having two drive twice because of this store not telling me the Hoffman estates location has a self service or this store not being well staffed that they only have one groomer in charge of this entire section of the store. IT'S A SELF SERVICE WASH, HOW HARD IS IT! read more

I've been pissed multiple times in establishments but never wrote a bad review bc too much effort and try to forget about it and don't want people to get I trouble, BUTTTT this involved my dog so I have so share my experience. Came in for nail trimming first time at this location, was terrible experiences, never going back. Girl (A) was not comfortable handling dog who clearly does not want his nails clipped. And she wasn't pleasant about it. My dog is small less then 9lbs and can get feisty during nail clipping, but instead of controlling him properly during trimming (as I have had great experience at another petco location but recently moved) she let him flop around pulling away from her and choking himself on the leash, he was pulling away so violently I thought his arm joints would dislocate. She wasn't even trying to calm him down, rather seemed annoyed and this feed his rebellion to get away from her even more. When she let me hold him while she buffed bc can't do the job well herself...I saw the nails were barely clipped to begin with. She was buffing more then trimming. I felt bad I put my little boo through that. I will drive the 35 mins to our former elmhurst location just to have a safe and pleasant experience for my dog. I will say for credit of rest of store and staff, customer service has always been great and we have otherwise enjoyed coming for snacks and dog food. This was the first time we came for grooming and it's the last time. read more

don't take your pets here to be vaccinated!!!! i took my golden retriever here on 6/19/2012 to get his rabies shot and he died shortly thereafter! he started to hyperventilate in the store after he received his shot and the doctor said he'd be fine within the hour but he suffered. i have no idea what the doctor gave him but it wasn't a rabies shot!! please don't bring your pets here for vaccinations! i'll never forgive myself! read more
