Terrible customer service asked for help 2 times told not right now. And the just walked around me for the next 10 min

If I could , this place is dirty and the "vet " and her assistant's behavior drops below an animal's, they aren't friendly , have no manners , the assistant's appearance was dirty and bad mannered , mishandled my pet and didn't let me go in , rudely took the pet out of the carrier and scared him badly , but worse than that the supposedly "vet" applied the vaccine shot so rudely, that my kitten got a bad lump an it's arm , both are the worst people I've ever met in this filed ......... they shouldn't be allowed to be there because they show no empathy for the pets they clearly are hungry and only want money from what they do , and they do it out of love and kindness........ make sure that unkind soul stays away from your pet , her name is Ari aycock W. read more

The grooming staff is hit or miss at this place. Some staff is great and loves what they do, while others appear to be part timers just hired to fill the voids. Unfortunately during my last visit to this place my bulldog got the latter. Upon picking up my dog from the groomers I noticed the big bald spot and red swelling on his back. The entire affected area, albeit covered by fur, was about 3 square inches. At first it looked like a dryer burn, but who really knows what it was. My pup was hurt by an unprofessional team member who failed to properly groom my boy. The management team (Freddy I believe) was kind enough to refund my payment and offered a spray to ease the pain/swelling my dog had. I appreciate they admitted a mistake but all I really advised was that they properly train their staff before they let them groom people's pets. I hope the gentleman that helped me gets reevaluated and reassigned to a different task. I will most certainly not return to this store or any other Petcos and will proceed to shop and recommend friends to Centinela Feed, the staff is knowledgeable and really shows a passion for what they do. read more

Made an appointment to groom my dog not only did it take forever for them to come out and greet me but the girls who are there are all rude and lazy with a bad attitude. Someone finally comes out to greet me and say we can't see your dog because his rabies shot was expired about a month ago when I called and spoke to them they have said it was OK. Waste of my time I will never shop at this Petco ever again. The whole time I was waiting I can see how they treated everyone else's dogs I am from what I saw I'm glad even see my dog read more

Didn't like their customer service over the phone. I had been trying to get a hold a of the grooming dept but no answer. Then called again to speak to "customer service" and asked a question if walking in was accepted for nail trimming and they transferred me to grooming dept and again they didn't answer. This pet store is nice, clean and service is great. They train your dog. There are lots of pets to choose from the cages like turtles, fishes, hamster, birds and even lizards. Tons of dog food to chose and other types of food for the other types of pets. read more

My appointment for grooming was at 4:15, I show up at 4:17, wait 3 minutes for someone to greet me, some lady ends up coming out already making excuses and telling me that the stylist for my dog won't be able to take her in because I needed to be there exactly at 4:15, that the stylist needed time to get my dog ready? So you mean to tell me that because I was 2 minutes late you can't take my dog? She tells me they don't have a grace period, Freakin ridiculous. The lady that I spoke with was monotone, no customer service skills, didn't even apologize for my inconvenience, and on top of that she says I can reschedule and would need to bring a copy of my dog's rabies shot. What makes you think that I want to reschedule with you, as for the rabies shot, I called multiple times to ask about this and no one ever answers the phone there. They had no dogs that were currently being groomed when I got there. Who hires these incompetent people? Does Petco even provide training in social/customer service skills cause this person clearly didn't have it. This is the last time I'm shopping at Petco, rather go through Chewy to get my pet's needs, and find a private grooming salon as these corporate places are super disappointing. I was hesitant to schedule my pups grooming just anywhere. I went through so many groomers review and read horror stories of mistreat, cuts and traumatizing experiences. Yesterday we had an appt with Vivian and I was more than please with the way she handled herself with me and my pup. I have a Morkie and just wanted a puppy cut for her she explained to me that she couldn't do it because she was matted on her legs. I asked if they can brush her out she said they are beyond a brush out it would hurt and could irritate her skin. Vivian noticed my hesitation to cut her down short so she said "you can take her home and try to brush her out and bring her back" Not once did she show any frustration with me. I canceled the appt and took my puppy home. I attempted to brush her and she was whining in pain so I stopped before I cause her more pain or even traumatized my puppy. I called Vivian back and she told me to bring her back and not to worry. my puppy did great for her 1st grooming session. Vivian advised what brush, shampoos and conditioners to use when her new platinum curls grow out. Thank you Vivian! read more

Are you kidding me!! I literally went to petco today around 3:30pm to buy my little brother some "9.99" neon fish, I bought two so basically $20, it's 9 pm now and they are both DEAD!!! We have had fish for years and have our tank with a filter food and everything , I should've paid attention to all the damn dead fish in the store's tanks. Amazing service!!!!!! Just left a bad review at the other Petco located in alameda plaza since I went for assistance finding a high protein food and they didn't want to help me at all! So I left to this location for help and it was the best decision ever!!! My mom and I were helped by a young gentleman who started working there two days prior and he did absolutely amazing! Thank you so much! Didn't get his name but absolutely great service! Recommended me great dry/ wet food and also gave my pumpkin cans for our old pup! Will be coming back! read more

Brought my husky in today for a shower. Took her in at 10:45 and was told she would be ready in 3 hours. Normally I go to a different Petco and it takes longer so I assumed their estimate was inaccurate. I got a call at 1:42 almost exactly 3 hours from 10:45 and when I picked her up I went into the room and grabbed the paper. As I'm opening the door to go pay one of the groomers opened the door and asked if the husky was mine, of course I said yes and she told me that I have to get her now because she is being too aggressive. I was confused since I've never gotten this complaint before and closed the door and said that it was fine and I could take her. She then replied back with a heavy attitude telling me that I have to go pay first. This left a bad taste in my mouth since she is the one that stopped me in the first place. I went to pay and when I returned they brought my dog out and I quickly put her collar on and was trying to leave since they made me feel very uncomfortable. The man that brought my dog out asked me if she looked fine but I was not paying attention and left. I had to get ready for work so when I got home I was busy and she was in my living room when my family pointed out that she was still dirty. Her ears were full of dirt and all her fur was also. I called and all they said was that she was aggressive with the dogs and the groomers. My husky has never been aggressive and every other Petco i take her to has nothing but good things to say about her. They offered me a refund but that does not make up for my time that was lost and the stress that I endured in the process. I'm upset that instead of telling me they couldn't shower her they thought I wouldn't notice and were going to let me pay for a service they never began. read more

WHOW! Something that is strange is that; I actually started going to this Petco because the groomer (which used to work at the Petco near me) changed locations, and now comes here. I am hoping that the bad service that many others -That have reviewed on this location- is from whomever they are replacing with my friend who just started working there a month or so ago. Very unprofessional training. Made an appointment for dog training and had to wait over 1 month to start. I did not mind the wait, it was going to be 1 on 1 training. I spoke with trainer Christina, here at the South Gate Petco, who i very clearly asked specifically for the 1 on 1 training since my mini schnauzer barks a lot and can get loud around other dogs. I was assured I'd receive 1 on 1 training as long as I was willing to wait a few weeks. I was fine with the wait, I did everything I was Instructed to do beforehand and when the day arrived we showed up and we were told to reschedule to another day because she had other dogs in the class and my dog was barking. I said to her (trainer Christina) that's not possible because I was assured I was signing up for a 1 on 1 class and that we waited a few weeks. She said she understood that but signed up other dogs because she "forgot it was a mini schnauzer" She could not give 2 s***s about it. She insisted on us returning on Sunday (which is not possible because of our schedules) She did not seem sorry about the situation. Just another day here at Petco I suppose. Very unprofessional. I am an animal lover, and have been a resident of South Gate all my life when this Petco came to our city my heart couldn't be happier. Sure there is always room for improvement everywhere, but my visits have been pretty satisfactory. My only wish is that they offered more large and bulk options to feed stray and multiple cats and dogs. The prices can be a little lower, and I'm attracted to their little clearance racks. Overall, its a clean, organized, happy Petco. but to Petco, please stop supplying all these unaltered animals. and lets give the animals better living spaces. read more

Brought my dog here to get groomed and they did a wonderful job on her! She's very small and timid so the grooming assistant answered all my questions and even took a little extra time with her so they could get to know each other which made feel a lot more comfortable leaving her there. Her cut was exactly what I wanted not too short, I was even able to get a promotion they're offering this month for free flea treatment! Wash, cut and nail trim for a good price! They kept my dog from 11am to 4:30(that is only because I kept calling and ended up showing up before 4:30 to pressure them!) was so upset with the style of my grooming and on top of that they did not even apologize for the service I received! Went to Petco for one of my cats who's been licking him self bald. I spoke to a couple of the workers there and they were so very helpful! I wish I would have gotten the young lady's name. She gave me a few options one to help my cat destress, for hair balls , and dry shampoo for possible skin allergies, yet still reminding me that she was not a vet. I got a few things to help my cat and they worked! They young lady did advices me to take my cat to the vet if it didn't work. One of the newer petcos. The whole set up is new, giving it a cool vibe. The management is positive and helpful. They have saltwater which some petcos don't, and the fish are very well taken care of. Freddy the aquatics expert is VERY knowledgeable and helpful with any questions. He's always on the alert to help people and educate them. If its busy, he'll open a register up for you and check you out! He's helped me out many times and its always a great conversation. If you need good help just look for or ask for Freddy! read more

Hands down an amazing store! I bought a bag of dog food on Sunday (it's now Wednesday) night, that unfortunately due to my dogs health I need to buy a special brand from his vet now. I can no longer use the one I bought 3 days ago. I called Petco and was told that they will exchange the food I bought even if it's open and will give me a full refund or store credit with receipt. I absolutely love this Petco! I have 3 fur babies and they all love coming here. Reyna does an AMAZING job! I don't get them groomed anywhere else. She always does exactly what I ask for and my boys love her! I've taken them to other places in the past and they would either cut too much or they would have burns from the razors and that has never happened here in the last 2-3 years that they have been coming. My Boston Terrier Zeppelin has also had training here with Christina and she is AWESOME! He has learned so much and that says a lot because he was a really stubborn boy! Overall, 5 stars. :) read more
