I don't usually post about this kind of thing, but at a certain point it becomes a pattern worth documenting. On March 28, I placed an order with Petco after confirming all items were listed as available for same-day pickup or delivery. At checkout, I was then told one or more items were suddenly unavailable and would need to be shipped, despite still showing as in stock. As a 100% service-connected disabled veteran with mobility limitations, I don't use delivery for convenience, I use it when it's necessary. I have a service dog and multiple cats, and this order (over $250) was meant to cover an entire month of food and supplies. On a fixed disability income, that's not a small purchase. Delivery was estimated at three days. I allowed for standard delays. But by day six, the order hadn't even been picked up by the carrier. I reached out to Petco and went through multiple rounds of emails over several days. Each response was vague, with no real answers and no attempt to resolve the issue, just repeated statements that they would "look into it." No replacement. No escalation. No solution. Ultimately, I had to resolve it myself by canceling the order on April 7. Because of this delay, I had to go back out and purchase additional pet food while still waiting for answers, something I was specifically trying to avoid due to mobility limitations. And now I must wait 10 business days for a refund to go purchase my original items. The refund issued also did not match the full value of the missing items. My request included four items, but Petco's response referenced only three SKUs, leaving part of the order unaccounted for. Petco often promotes its support for veterans. That support was not reflected here. What makes this more frustrating is that it's not an isolated incident. I've experienced similar shipping and fulfillment issues with Petco before. And like many people, I sometimes end up going back, not because the service is reliable, but because options are limited. That's the reality with large corporations, sometimes they're the only choice, and you hope the experience will be different next time. This time, it wasn't. At a minimum, companies that position themselves around service and support should be able to follow through on basic order fulfillment, or take accountability when they don't. read more

Ask girl who must be new if I could have a set amount of crickets to which she condescendingly says "we have pre bagged ones" I explained to her someone usually bags me up a set amount, and she replies again with "we have pre bagged ones". Very unfriendly and unhelpful, if I'm the only person at the counter, do your job. I was nothing but respectful. Had a similar experience awhile back with the one woman with tattoos. I brought a cheap humidity sensor to the counter. I asked if it was the only one they had, she replied with "was that the only one you saw?" To which I said "I think so" and her response was "than that's all we have?" Just in general very unhelpful. -shout out to the pm workers though, always kind. read more

The Employees especially the female know it all employees are extremely sarcastic and rude. It took me a half hour to get any help. The employees literally kept walking passed me. I finally asked for help and the look she gave me was wild. How dare I talk to her and want help or to buy something. Be prepared to be ignored, and treated like an inconvenience and annoyance. half tell you they don't know anything about anything there and or give you the wrong information, sell you things that they shouldn't ever sell you. when you come back after realizing you were told and sold the wrong things and ask for help be prepared to be talked to like you are the biggest idiot and talk down. told you should've did your own research... But in the same breath, anything you researched and talked to the previous employee about they will contradict and tell you you're wrong that the other employee was wrong. Then demand to know their name.. uh lady you didn't even tell me your name but I'm supposed to know their previous employees name? just rude... they will trash talk the other employee and you but still sell turn around and sell you the wrong thing again and give you horrible advice. Ironically The store is always dirty. Every time I go in to this location there are dead, snails dead fish, dead shrimp floating around in multiple tanks. When you tell them they get an attitude and say they are busy and they know already. The tanks obviously are not cleaned properly or regularly. I tell myself I'm not coming back every time I go but because the location is close to my home and convenient I stupidly return only to be disappointed and frustrated. The irony of them claiming to be so much more knowledgeable than anyone yet having dead animals floating around in their tanks is laughable. At this point I will drive way out of my way to go to Petsmart. At least they are friendly and don't have bad attitudes and the tanks are clean and if they don't know something they find someone who does. I would not recommend this location. Pretty sure the nerite snail the employee berated me for wanting to buy was already dead when she bagged it up. I was scolded over the size of my tank which they sold me my tank has live plants and is well maintained. Yes it's only a 5 gallon tank. I have one small female betta. Adding 1 nerite snail is fine. Anyhow I'm pretty sure I was sold a dead snail. I would rather smack myself in the head with a shovel then go back to this store and be berated or complain to them about the dead snail they sold me. The employees would rather talk to each other than customers and make it very clear. read more

This is an update to my most recent visit. I went in today to price items for a snake my wife has been wanting. I saw they had two corn snakes for very cheap and made it totally doable. We approached the young woman who was cleaning a empty fish tank and she VERY rudely told us we weren't allowed in the isle because she was cleaning. Ok, she could have been nice about it, but I let it go despite the way she spoke to my wife. We then went to the front and asked the only cashier for help and she said she would page someone. We headed back to the reptiles and waited 15 minutes later the same rude woman approached and was like "what do you need" I explained I wanted to see the two snakes that were discounted because I planned to buy a full new set up, tank, all the trim, and of course the snake. I was planning on spending about 500. She scouled at me and my wife and told us, "I can't do that right now, come back tomorrow." I was very confused, and since this was the third rude thing that came out of her mouth. I was like no we aren't doing that, we have jobs. Her response was, " well I'm not getting that for you, I'm busy cleaning this tank." I admit I almost lost it. How dare you, mind you this is like 4:30 in the afternoon noon. You can clean whatever, later in the day, when customers aren't trying to spend 5 or 6 hundred dollars. I went to ask the other woman at the counter if there was anyone else that could help us, but was told they were the only two in the store. So we left without spending a dollar. Oh and the best part, as we were leaving the rude blue hair face piercing girl, was getting a hamster for some other person. Like what the actual F. I called corporate after leaving, and I went to another store and bought a full set up spending well over 500 dollars, but I will never shop at this store again as long as this chick works there, which by the way, if you look at their reviews, the same chick has been mentioned multiple times resulting in multiple 1 star reviews, seems like they really don't care about their customers read more

Petco?! What happened to the customer service that you have always been known for. We had an appointment at Vetco for a vaccine and of course while we were there, we picked up some treats for our dog. Not one employee smiled or acknowledged our presence. When we found someone to help us find something they appeared as though we were bothering them. Then when we get to the register and the employees are chatting away without acknowledging us again. Sadly it appeared as though all employees were not happy working there. I hope that they can find a way to bring back their customer service as there are a lot of other places that value my business. read more

Customer service everywhere is declining in physical stores which is surprising considering physical locations are shuttering in favor of online storefronts, that said, the total butt of customer service I experienced here was amazingly disappointing. After browsing around the store for a good 30 minutes to keep the little one busy and NOT get asked for assistance, we were met with a scolding when I attempted to assist myself cause there literally was not a person around to help or ask if I need help. Totally worthless spot. I can get as little customer experience from a website or a kiosk without a chance of unqualified scolding. I never come to this location and now I see why, I will stick to getting everything I got in-store, online instead for a discount rather than visiting local employees of this store. Groomers first impression was awful... came out of some door asked "who's this? do you have her paperwork?" Didn't greet me, didn't say hi didn't say who she was. I should've walked right back out. Sounded so friendly over the phone, claimed she was a poodle doodle expertise . Instead, I let my poor pup get shaved by her! Awful experience! My dog has not stopped scratching and has not been the same since . Very depressed as if she has a complex. Which she should, because she has been cut way shorter than I expected and she had zero mats to begin with. I had explained what I wanted, but the groomer "gal" told me, "you don't want that, you want this. Does that make sense?" I'm thinking, "that makes sense, but that's not what I'm asking you to do!" And she was never bathed, just shaved and spritzed with some dumb ass cologne. And to top all that off, I go to pay at the front register and there's some gal behind the counter, leaning on the counter, throwing out F bombs. The whole place was so unprofessional gave me the heebie-jeebies and I can't even believe that I was dumb enough to take my dog to a Petco for grooming. read more

She was the same person who called but couldn't groom because someone else called out that wasn't even supposed to be doing our grooming... I let her know that I had a day off specifically for this. Well, I won't do that again!! We have a regular groomer that we bring Penny to but couldn't get in on late notice. So we took her to Petco on 6th. I really am kind of at fault, as I didn't take time to inspect her before leaving. They are all extremely nice people there. At least the folks I have dealt with in the past. And I'm sure they try. But I think maybe Penny's groomer needs more training. The cut was awful! (I know, she's cute no matter! She can't help it!). Lopsided on the face, a divot on her neck. This location is where we come to get our mice for my daughter's boa constrictor. They are Very knowledgeable about the sizing and the appropriate information is given on how to feed the snake. You sign a waiver letting them know what it's for and you go about your business.. Being a perks member were still waiting to see what type of perks we get for as many mice as we have bought. The only problem that I had is when I 1st called they seem so helpful over the phone and knew exactly what I was coming in for However when I arrived it took me 3 separate attempts to find an associate who could actually help me. My time is valuable I was not in an extreme hurry however I should not one have to Chase down a member I should have been greeted at the door with a welcome in or a hello and then I would know where to go. 2 the person that I did find was working in the aquariums and had her arm inside of a tank so her arm was considerably wet she then dried it off and attempted to help me by finding a 3rd associate 3. The 3rd associate seemed not to have any idea how to capture the mice and put them in the Box so the lady at the register left the register leaving A-line of people went to help retrieve the mice and then came back only To find out that the system that she was using had currently gone down and that she had to move the entire line back 3 registers just so we could check out. Usually I'm in-and-out visit picking up 2 mice putting the menobox signing the form and being on my way may be 15 to 20 minutes tops this particular visit was 30 to 45 minutes a bit excessive for 2 mice. read more

I usually go to this store and i don't have any problem with the staff but on my last visit today the lady at the cashier name Danielle was very rude and dismissive. I was just buying my dog food and she got sassy with me as to why I shouldn't be buying that for my dog. I work in customer service too and I would never treat any customers like that no matter if i'm having a bad day or tired. That lady needs to be fired! I took my two dogs for grooming at the 6th Avenue location in Tacoma, I guess I should of known that an opening the day before was a bad sign. Everyone was quite nice but the grooming was horrible. Perhaps no one is fully trained. Requested a general buzzcut and received back 2 dogs with the body shaved but the head, feet and tails were still long. Plus they were still wet and they handed me the collars (one of which was promptly lost). I also had to wait 15 minutes just to get the piece of paper to pay for the dogs before going back to line to get the dogs. Called and took them back the next day and they came back with the buzz cut but one of the dogs was cut way too short and his leg as all red. His tail was also square, which was kind of cool ... but weird. All in all, it seems like they mean well but definitely need some more training. Some of the people that were doing the grooming looked like they were winging it and the dogs looked pretty sad. I will go back to Petco for grooming but probably not that location. read more

Made a grooming appointment here about a month ago. I read their website for process and fax about the grooming. Was sent reminder emails and text. Specifically was reminded probably 10 times to bring in vaccination records (Among other things). Nowhere (on website, emails or texts) did they say not to dose your dog with CBD. We gave our dog a very small dose of CBD (1/2 of what vet recommended) due to a traumatic nail clipping she had had previously. We took time off work, took a ferry - and then were told they would not take her because of this. I was livid!! WHY not state that in all grooming details/reminders. It is so common these days that I'm sure many do this prior to grooming and vet appointments. Will never return to Petco again. read more

The store is clean and staff are helpful. The grooming salon is way understaffed and I've been unable to schedule my small dogs for over 6 months. Today, I was allowed to schedule online; however, I received a call back from a staff saying that they were all taking lunch from 2:00-2:45pm and the grooming salon would be closed. How do you know when you've found the perfect groomer for your fur babies? When you'd travel from Federal Way to Tacoma just to have her continue caring for your babies! From the very first time we took our pups Khloe and Caesar to the Petco in South Center and they met Taryn we just knew... she's the one! So when she changed location we just had to find out where she was and thankfully we found her in Tacoma! Super attentive, knowledgeable, great with the pups and has a great personality. We have never had any complaints with Taryn and the pups love her, even our new pup Liam! Taryn, thank you for always being so awesome! read more

It's interesting that the store will allow returns of half eaten pet foods due to a finicky palate, yet the store refuses to exchange a defective bottle of flea spray b/c I misplaced my receipt? I don't understand that philosophy. Perhaps they should use their club card program to track purchases so someone doesn't lose their money over a lost receipt. So, we decided to get a guinea pig here for our six-year-old daughter. The staff were pleasant, but we did have to go hunt someone down to ask for the guinea pig and for some suggestions regarding care. We also bought a huge cage and all the essentials. I feel like she could have been a little more helpful. She also asked if we wanted his nails trimmed before we took him. I think that's kind of a silly question. Of course we want his nails trimmed. That's not what we want to do when we get home. The nail clippers slipped (She said. She took him in the back) and his poor little toe was bleeding on our way home. We have never had a guinea pig before and our new family member is quite skittish, which I realize is a typical guinea pig trait, but I do think it could have started out on a better note. Went to check out and Vanessa was wonderful, super sweet to my puppy that was obviously stressed. I went in looking for dog food and happened to walk by the bird enclosures. While the parakeets seemed to be doing ok, the other parrots looked depressed and anxious. Their enclosures were mostly bare....just a perch and maybe one hanging plastic toy. There was nothing there for the bird's enrichment. Parrots are smart and they need to be occupied and challenged; come on Petco, take care of the birds you are charging $700 for. Just shame on you. I also couldn't find the dog food I wanted, so I went to Petsmart instead. The difference in the bird enclosures was beyond description. The parrots had large cages, bedding, multiple perches, toys galore and seemed to be well adjusted and content. Petco ownership and managers - you need to get to step up. read more

FIRST IMPRESSION: First visit This location is very clean and tidy and is well stocked. My pups food ran out so we came in to buy the Eukanuba, Adult Maintenance Small Bite dry food for him. We will be switching his food soon so it was great that they had the small size in stock. I cannot say much about the other products as my main goal today was for his food. I did notice that they have a lot of Star Wars products - toys, costumes and bedding. I can't say much about the customer service either but the cashier was really friendly so thumbs up on that :) Would I return? Definitely. read more

I do not recommend this store. Three workers, one at the cashier. No one welcomes or offers help or assistance. I wander the store first and then go back to get a cart. I struggle in putting the cat tree in the cart. I wander more with it in the cart. I walk up to the cashier, Ladonna, who's completely bent over the counter scrolling on her phone, looking annoyed that I was walking up. She asked me for my phone number four times. The last time I looked directly at her and wasnt doing anything else and she said I spoke softly. It appears to me we are alone in the store and I didn't have issues hearing her and repeating myself. Then she said I had to take the cat tree out of the cart for her to scan. It's a cart, the scanner is wireless, she could of scanned it from the bottom. So she started taking it off the cart. After I had struggled getting it in the cart. She then laughed at me when I asked her to stop. I almost walked out the store. I just spent $110 on a cat tree from this store and she laughed at me for asking her to leave it in the cart and scan it with her wireless scanner. She did not offer to help put it back in the cart or help me out or offer to get someone to help me either. The employee Ladonna will be the reason I don't visit this store again. Petcos are everywhere and I'll visit a different store for help. There are three cats there for adoption. Two are a bonded pair and the long hair cat of that pair is clearly sick and has a cough and runny nose and horse meow and is clearly in stress. read more

I walk in and everything is disorganized, the fish tanks were mostly and unfilled, the animals on display looked like they were dead and half the cages/tanks were empty. Not only that, but there were only two ladies working. I asked the older lady if I could ask her a question, to which she responded "I don't know, can you?" It went back and forth with that same response another time again I asked if I could and she, very sarcastically said "what can I help you with?" I was appalled at the attitude she was giving me, completely unwarranted as I had been polite. So sure they have great animals, supplies and services but they really should step up their game, at least at this location. read more

They had a good variety of fish so I came back the next day and the same thing happened again. I waited 15 minutes and had no one help me. My wife took the dog in for grooming Saturday and everything seemed fine. We have used their services for the last 5 and half years, Barkley began pacing Sunday night and did not sleep well finally settling in at 3AM. Monday came and he seemed fine in the morning but when we arrived home after work he was rubbing his ear and behaving odd as well as being aggressive when we wanted to look at his ears. We took him to VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital (They were Great) for a suspected ear infection and found that the groomer had not pulled the packing after the bath from his ears resulting in severe ear infection in right ear and a lesser one in the left. We have used Petco frequently for our Bulldog and never issues and hoping this was just someone new that made an honest mistake and not a careless act due to not paying attention to detail read more

Based on a recent experience in this petco I am no longer shopping online or elsewhere with this company. Was refused access to the restroom while shopping for pet food at the Tacoma 6th Ave location, because they were short staffed. I have spent hundreds at this location and intended on spending hundreds more until I was denied this basic human need. If they treat people like that then how do they treat the poor animals trapped there? Seriously flabbergasted, being short staffed isn't an adequate excuse. read more
