Bought dog booties for my dog. Due to Covid I couldn't get back to return the booties because they didn't fit. I have Covid positive test results, doctors note, and prescription as proof but they would not extend the 30 day return policy 6 days to accommodate. Chan, the Assistant manager, nice but asking his workers if he can do anything. Worker, Dayanara seemed more like a manager. The other girl interrupted our conversation repeatedly. The actual manager nonexistent...frustrated because the machine "is stricken and there is no way around it." Seems silly to loose a long time customer over $29.99. read more

I went to House of Paw in the city of Orange for my dog's haircut fix and was groomed perfectly even. I was also sent home some treats out of generousity. Called in with questions regarding their available leopard geckos. They were informative, although someone told me they were unable to gender their geckos. That surprised me, but I went in to gender them for myself and brought home an adolescent Leo, who I thought was female but arriving home realized it was male. I brought the beautiful lad back, and was allowed to exchange it for another. I was assisted by Matt, who was very hands on with the geckos, and knew how to separate males from females. My puppy gets trained and groomed at this location and they have been great! Nikki has been awesome with our baby! She started going in at 12 weeks and learned so much from her! We are thrilled with her progress! I highly recommend Nikki! The grooming is great! They are so kind to are puppy and she always looks great! The covid 19 precautions are very well in place also! Poor communication skills leading to uneasy customer experience followed by management whom seems to care more about their staff as opposed to a customer experience in store. I thought communicating with management over phone would be a helpful conversation for what's happening in store, but instead resulted into a conversation of them being ok with losing business. Our dog was groomed (bath). Was told we should look into mobile grooming services as opposed to bringing our dog in at Petco, mind you our dog has been attending Petco grooming for years. The conversation had in store made me feel uneasy about the groomers as I was told we should look into mobile grooming services, after asking why- thinking someone got hurt, she got into an altercation with another dog- NO their recommending we do mobile grooming because she seems uneasy. Our dog is slightly skittish, but like many personalities a groomer should feel equipped to handle those personalities. After leaving I felt uneasy so I called, during that conversation with the manager they disclosed they simply recommended a mobile service because our dog would thrive better without kennel drying and they're looking at the best interest of our dog- the issue I have with this is that this wasn't the conversation I had in store. It took me to make a call to management to fully understand why they recommended mobile services, after paying for the grooming service. Protocols have to be followed but also relaying information to customers about their pets especially those recommending outside services should be funneled to management first to ensure it's communicated appropriately. I won't be bringing our dog to Petco grooming moving forward as it seems staff or the business aren't equipped to handle certain personality animals. read more

Big shout out to the employees of this location. My kids wanted an aquarium and Matt, Daniella, Dayanara, and I want to say Josh? He's the super young looking high school kid, but everyone has been fantastic at teaching and helping us along with our very first fish aquarium! We went with the neon tetra or glofish, and had a great experience. We purchased the Tetra Glofish brand 10 gallon aquarium kit and are about a month into this wonderful hobby. We did lose a few fish along the way, which they were very supportive, but starting to get the hang of it! Thank you so much for all of the support on this new pet journey for my family. read more

This is my go to spot for grooming my dog. He is not too people friendly and will usually snap at any groomer that tries to even come near him so when I took him in for his first bath I was glad that Michael was patient with my child. I explained to him exactly what I wanted and he delivered and does so every time, so that's why i always come back and ask for him specifically. I normally shop at this Petco because it's the closest to my home. If It wasn't for the convince then I absolutely wouldn't. The staff is rude and never smiles, I thought people that worked at Petco would be friendly and helpful. I have bought several pets there for my sons and I purchase Food and supplies for our Dog on a consistent basis. We are working our way into buying another pet but before we do we want to do our homework and make sure that it's a good fit for our kids. Today when we went in to hold a couple of the pets that we are interested in getting we were rudely treated by ROBIN who after asking her to hold 2 pets asked us "Do you plan on buying today?" I advised her that no we were not buying today but we were interested in learning more about the pets and of course having our children hold the animals before we purchase. After all isn't that the point? I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed with this Petco and their level of service. I really like this Petco location, it is right in between Trader Joe's and Smart & Final. Not as big as a Petsmart, but there is pretty much everything you need, prices are reasonable, and a good selection of dog food. I started coming here because a friend suggested the puppy playtime on Saturday's and Sunday's to socialize my puppy. This is available from 4-4:30pm for small pups, and 4:30-5pm for larger pups, and is 100% free. This is a great place to socialize your puppy before they are old enough to get all of their shots and go to the dog park, you just need to bring proof of up to date vaccinations for your puppy, fill out a quick form, and you are good to go! Nicki runs the puppy playtime in the center of Petco in a small enclosed area, and she is awesome! She is super friendly and knowledgeable about dogs and proper puppy behavior, and enforces good behavior and splits the pups up if it starts getting aggressive or one needs a break. I have an Italian mastiff, so it was crucial to get him socialized before he got big. Now my dog is 6 months, super socialized and good at playing with dogs of all sizes, and I credit this to puppy playtime at petco! I've had questions here and there about my puppy, and she always gives me great advice, so I decided to eventually sign up for the puppy level 2 classes for pups who know all of the basic tricks. In this class so far Gunner is learning to walk past other dogs without getting distracted, leave it, and to stay with distractions. The class is about a hundred bucks for 6 classes, but Nicki had a $20 off coupon for me. read more

Omg! What an incredible experience here at Tustin Petco - with Shannon who is so talented with her hair cutting and grooming skills! Our little cuppy was in desperate need of a good haircut; he needed a shave! His fine hair had overgrown and had become unmanageable with little knots/mats too difficult to untangle. He could barely see with all that hair crowding his eyes out! Shannon was able to carefully remove all of cuppy's matted fur, even at his delicate ears and at all of his paws. Shannon clipped his nails, cleaned his ears, and gave him a happy bathing! The shave was done so evenly and precise. Cuppy looks incredible, and is very very happy! He is soft and buttery and smells absolutely wonderful! Afterwards, Jenny (also with grooming) helped me pick out combs and detanglers to help prevent mats in the future. Next time we will bring cuppy to Shannon again!! And hopefully for a regular haircut. :) We are so excited to have found Shannon at this Petco! I went in on a Saturday with the intention of buying an aquarium and fish for my son. I know next to nothing about fish, so I asked for some assistance. Orlando came over to help me. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He helped me get the aquarium and all of the supplies I need to get it going, and explained that I should wait at least one week before I put any fish in. Even though I didn't buy any fish yet, he gave me a lot of information about the different fish i could buy and even showed me how to use the gravel vacuum. I went in with my boyfriend and we were interested in getting a green cheek conure. We had been to many other places including actual bird stores and Petsmart, but the birds usually seemed afraid and weren't really ready to be handled yet. We came in here and they had 3 different green check conures and they all looked so friendly and healthy. We asked the store associates for some help as well as some questions about the personality of each of the conures. They were extremely helpful and you could tell when they took out the birds how comfortable they were with each other and how much time they spend with them. They were able to help us decide on which one to get and it's been a few weeks since we've had him now and he's been great!! Great store and great staff who really care about the animals! read more

RIP OFF. I made an appt for dog (face, feet, fanny - $15). Got to the register and it rang up $25. I asked why. It was billed as a "walk in" appt. WHAT??? I made a verbal appt over the phone and waited a week for that. Petco still considers that a "walk-in" appt and always charges $10 I was told by the manager. This is ridiculous. I asked if I needed to teleport in so as to not have a walk-in fee and they didn't know what that was. So while they have stated prices for their services...they add $10 on no matter what - because each and every service, on each and every dog, is considered a walk-in and that is an extra $10. Also I had to point out to the groomer that fee includes nail cutting and trimming of the fur. She had not trimmed the paw pads and tops of paws. NEVER EVER AGAIN WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!! Hi, I was in the store yesterday for the first time. Does it always smell that bad? Upon walking in, I felt as if I was slugged in the gut and the nose and the throat at the exact same time. Just inside the front door, the store began to smell like mildew and rotting flesh. There was also notes of urine and poop. If there is any Petco reps monitoring these Yelp pages, maybe a visit to this store is overdue. It smelled so bad that it was a surprise the building wasn't condemned. My girlfriend and I were on the cusp of vomiting everywhere and she said we NEED to go somewhere else, she couldn't handle it. However I assured her since we were already here, lets not let this suffering be for not. So we got what we needed and got the hell out of there. If someone from Petco responds to this review, and confirms the store no longer smells like a hot wet dumpster, I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if I took anyone in my family back to this store. read more

I'm very upset! I get home from grooming my dog there, not only is his eyes all red but there is a mark under his eyes like they shaved it. He definitely didn't have this before he went. So much better than Petsmart! The employees here actually help you and they know a lot about both the inventory and animals. The people I spoke with were not just employees, they were animal lovers and you can feel right way that they were speaking from experience with genuine love for their pets. The store itself is a bit small but there's a lot to see. Many items seemed to be on sale or discounted so that was fun to rummage around. There's also an adoption center here and you received two booklets with great coupons if you adopt a pet. I came in looking for a few things for a stray cat that showed up on my deck and decided to stay. He's an older cat and was so skinny and rough looking that I rushed out and bought everything I could to spoil him and make sure he was safe and warm. The cashier I spoke to gave me so much time and information and I felt like giving her hug when I left. haha. She even handed me the adoption coupon books since she said I was technically adopting a cat. So sweet. It's rare that I find genuinely compassionate people in my day to day tasks, but I left this store feeling like I'd found a place I wouldn't mind just visiting randomly to say hello and buy something I didn't even need but would feel fine doing if it meant supporting this location. I love your store and staff at the new Tustin store. I visit once or twice a week and the people here are very helpful and caring. Today was actually my final visit with my dog Nina. She 16 1/2 with advanced arthritis and she's deaf. She also has a swallowing issue which makes it hard to find a food she can tolerate easily. I was helped on multiple occasions trying to find the right food. Cheryl has help me throughout the store and at the registers. She always has a friendly smile. Cat in grooming was very helpful in in bathing Nina. Nina takes some special care because she can't stand for long periods of time and Cat was able to make Nina comfortable and get her through quickly. Nina has a few days left and we're living it up. Came to this Petco when I was redirected from the Irvine one to find the litterbox I was looking for. This spot is relatively small, and you could walk around the whole place in a couple of minutes. However when I went, there were a couple of reps with a BUNCH of cages filled with tiny kittens and teenage cats and they were all adorable. I wish I took pictures but they were all very friendly cats, except this one mixed color cat who clawed me when I stroked its paw. This review is for Shannon in the grooming section. We took two cats, both timid to have claws clipped and for one to have a few matted clumps of hair removed. Shannon was very professional and calm with cats, she handled them both expertly including removing the matted clump from an unhappy cat.
