Came to this Petco when I was redirected from the Irvine one to find the litterbox I was looking for. This spot is relatively small, and you could walk around the whole place in a couple of minutes. However when I went, there were a couple of reps with a BUNCH of cages filled with tiny kittens and teenage cats and they were all adorable. I wish I took pictures but they were all very friendly cats, except this one mixed color cat who clawed me when I stroked its paw. This review is for Shannon in the grooming section. We took two cats, both timid to have claws clipped and for one to have a few matted clumps of hair removed. Shannon was very professional and calm with cats, she handled them both expertly including removing the matted clump from an unhappy cat. This store is well-stocked and clean with friendly employees! I love that they have special coupons for new puppy owners! A special shout out to Nikki the trainer- she is amazing at what she does! She knows her dogs and it shows through her comments and advice. We started bringing Ollie to puppy play time and she always paired the other puppies with others that were great matches for play. She keeps a close eye on them and is able to read every puppy SO well- she knows when they are tired, scared, or need extra time to relax. I would totally recommend her to others who need a trainer for their pups! Also, thanks to Petco for setting up the puppy playtime- it's such an amazing opportunity for their socialization (especially when experienced trainers like Nikki are supervising)! read more

The new Petco on Irvine Blvd is so nice... Since I've been going here, I've been happy to find that many of the brand names I buy for my cat have been on sale. Such as cases of Fancy Feast at a BOGO price and Arm and Hammer clump and seal (this stuff really works) at a price that's less than the grocery stores I frequent. Honestly, I find that this new store is more engaging than the old one on El Camino Real was. The store is more colorful, the pets on sale are toward the front of the store. They have grooming service. They made it so you have to look harder to find things, but then staff will help steer you to what you're looking for if you look lost on the floor for too long. read more

This review is based on the grooming salon in this Petco. I was visiting CA and needed a quick groom for my dog before heading back home. I walked in and had the best luck in meeting with the groomer, Shannon. She was the best!! You can tell she takes pride in her work and truly loves animals. She was very gentle and patient with my dog, who is nervous around new people. My dog looked beautiful when she was finished and seemed to really be at ease around her groomer. Petco is lucky that they have an individual like her, she is the absolute best!!! I just wish I could find a groomer like her in my area! Recently went to this store to purchase Just Food For Dogs frozen. Shelves were practically bare. Only a few selections. At checkout I asked why so little stock. I was told they deliver on Tuesday (the day I was there) and "we just get what they send us". I asked if they send in a reorder to JFFD so the freezer is well stocked and I'm told no, we just get what they send us. "Maybe try a different store or go buy it direct from them." Pathetic. Not the first time customer service is terrible in this store. It's convenient but it's the last time I shop there. read more

Don't bother making an appointment for grooming because you make an appointment get to the salon and get told your dog cannot be groomed because they need 4 hours..... my appointment was at 1. Not sure why anyone would set my appointment for 1 and not let me know over the phone. This is my fiance's and my pet-to-go store for all our pets' needs. We also have one of them taking classes here. We really like this store's welcoming atmosphere and set up. The store is clean and the staff are friendly. There has never been a bad experience for us. This store beats the old one that was located on Newport Blvd. Our pet's instructor, Nicki, is terrific and we love her! She's very patient with our little princess and knowledgeable (our little princess is a little difficult and super anti-social). We've clearly noticed her behavior has improved so much since we first started. read more

This is half for the pet store itself and the other half is for the caregiver for the cats. First the store, it's very nice and pretty. The location is right behind my house, so it's easy to run in and out. But lately the parking lot is a nightmare since trader Joe's opened. The staff is always friendly and always ask about my cats... At first I didn't like this location- but the more I go the more organized it becomes. This last part is for the caregiver for the cats. I walked in and she was cleaning the cages, I didn't catch her name. We started talking and I asked the petco worker where the strips for the couches were ( new couch and cat claws don't go well together) The caregiver told me that she just gets her cats declawed and knows a vet near by. 1) YOU SHOULD NEVER RECOMMEND DECLAWING YOUR CATS. 2) working for a cat rescue and knowing the harm declawing does to these kitties is absolutely horrible. I wish I got the cat rescue so I could let them know she is recommending this. I never wanted to run away from this lady as much as I did that day. read more

I went to this pet store not too long ago to look at their parakeets, the upkeep on healthy birds is atrocious, most of them had obvious signs of bad health. I went the next day to look at new enclosures and buy the food. I noticed that more and more of the birds were getting sick. For the well-being of the birds. Please tell the staff. read more

This review is for the grooming salon of this Petco. The groomer by the name of Shannon made mine and dog's(Ferris) experience really well. She did an amazing job on him and he did so well with her. My dog is a rescue and he has a lot of separation anxiety, but with Shannon he was so calm and the whole process went smoothly. Very pleased with everything. Will definitely come back. read more

We just had our first positive dog training class with Nicki, and it was great! She gave us good pointers on how to train our 4 month old puppy. She also really seemed in tune with our puppy's temperament. Nicki was also very informative about caring for him and encouraging about having a new pet. Excited for next class! I was unsatisfied with the grooming service. I made an appointment dropped my dog off for "complete groom" which should include a shower, and came back to pick him up 3 hours later. When I pick him up I have a bunch of fur coming onto my shirt which makes me think he wasn't showered, I pretty much paid for a full groom and only got a haircut and some perfume sprayed on him. read more

We went to petco grooming for a nail trim today. Their salon was kept very tidy. Although it was a Saturday evening they were happy tp take its in as a walk in. My pup hates his nails touched and can be a bit vocal. Jenny and Geo were so great! They were patient and reassured him that he was going to be ok. Honestly, this is my first time going into this Petco grooming. But it probably would be the last time. I was there to take my dog to the groomer. When I arrived, there was no one at the counter. So I waited for 5 minutes. Then I went ahead to the front desk to ask for help. Then the front desk told me the groomer was called and would come to find me, so I was walking around the store looking for the groomer as well. Then I came back to the grooming station. Racheal the groomer was there. The first thing she told me was" you are late. we have a 15 minutes grace period." Excuse me?! I am well within that 15 minutes grace period. I waited for 5 minutes at the grooming counter with no one ever to help me. That's why I decided to go to the front desk for help! So you are gonna count that as being late?! Then she proceeded to say " Oh, I was standing here. You just walked past by me and being rude." I am like WTF!? When I was waiting there, there was no one ever came out. If she happened to come out when I walked away, how can you just accuse me of being rude? Who talks to customers like that? Then I tried to explain to her I was literally walking around to find the groomer, I didn't even see her, so that's not me being rude. She just cut me off and said " Oh, if you are gonna be argumentative, I am not gonna wash your dog." Unbelievable. So she can accuse me of being rude for no reason, but if I tried to explain, I am being argumentative? This experience is probably the worse I have ever gotten from customer service forever. So unpleasant and just comes out of nowhere. I am just puzzled that why on earth would an employee wants to pick a fight with a customer for no reason. This groomer's name is Rachael. This is my first time ever meeting her. She really just tries to pick a fight with me for no reason. Unbelievable. And she switched up her story once her manager stepped in. What a coward. If you are gonna pick a fight with me, at least keep your story straight. read more

I'm writing this review for Nicky/Nikki (her name tag spelled Nicky, but on my receipt it's spelled Nikki). I came to this location last Thursday to return my senior dog's food, as he passed away shortly after we received it. I thought I was prepared in just having my Pal # but I was wrong and I completely held up her line. Still, Nikki was so incredibly patient and sweet in helping me complete the transaction. As you can imagine, it was already heartbreaking to return my dog's food, and she made the process easier than I could've hoped. We had to shop for a few items afterwards and she even helped us with that without us even asking. And then she helped us check out once more! Overall, I just wanted to say that she's wonderful and helpful and I'm really thankful that she was the one that helped me. I hope you truly value her!! I took my puppy in for a grooming. I had a 10am appointment, I went back at 3 and my puppy wasn't done, They said it was the puppy fault. The girl was rude because I was upset when my back said my puppy would be done by 2. I trusted them with my puppy and from the sounds of thing they don't know what there doing. read more

Incredibly friendly staff. We are new to having dogs and the staff was very kind about answering any and all questions. At times we would be there a couple times of day to get stuff for our puppy because we were so under prepared. Regardless, staff was was always nice. We were even able to return products that were partially used when they didn't work for us/the dog. We love this place. read more

Went in today to get some prescription flea Meds for my dog. They close at 1:00 pm on Sundays. I got to the counter at 12:55. Nobody came to help me. In fact there were employees at the other side of the bay window treating a cat, and not one could look up and acknowledge me. Waited till 1:05 then left. Went to Petsmart off El Camino Real. In and out in less then 5min. I gave them 3 Stars because that vet office isn't a reflection of the rest of the store. read more

I brought my Boston terrier Marley to get her nails trimmed here and we will definitely be coming back! I called ahead of time and figured they wouldn't be too busy since it was a Tuesday.. they told me to come in within the hour and let me know when the groomer would be taking lunch so I wouldn't have to wait.. I got the trim+ buffing which was $15 ($10 for just the trim) since they said they can get them a bit shorter. They were very good at handling my pup and did a great job! read more

They seem to be a clean store overall however, customer service is always at at all time low. They look at you as though you have a third eye or that they really would rather not have to do customer service and answer or assist you in your request. This was not one time, this has been each time I've been in the store. The cashiers would rather be somewhere else than where they are, not too friendly or job happy. The third time, I went in and asked for grooming care. I waited 10 minutes and nobody showed up. So I left. Going to take my dogs somewhere else, not worth it. read more

Had my dog groomed here today for the first and sadly the last time. This was by far the worst grooming any of my dogs has ever received. Michael did not follow the instructions I gave him as to how I wanted my dog groomed! When I returned to picked up my dog, I was shocked....my dog had literally been scalped! He was not matted when I took him in so there was no reason to cut 98% of all his fur off. Needless to say, he looks TERRIBLE and it will probably take 6-8 months for his fur to grow back. He seems embarrassed with his new haircut too.....all he wants to do is hide. Poor thing. I learned a valuable lesson, you get what you pay for. They don't know how to 'groom' dogs here, only how to shave all their fur off. If you want a quality grooming for your dog, DON'T GO HERE! You'll be sorry. read more

We had a graduation party with carnival theme and I had goldfish ping pong ball game set up. Needed 50 goldfish for the set up and unbeknownst to me they don't bag them individually. Never in my life have I experienced this kind of treatment. We have been a rewards member since 2012. A few times over the years our rewards information has gotten lost and with some nudging on our part it reappears. Well not this time! Our account went into outer space on October/November last year. Each time when I go in there are no rewards and I get the stock response telling me to A. Check your emails. B. Check your spam. C. Go on line onto your account. Well, we don't get emails, we checked our spam and we go on line and everything is accurate on the account. We have verified multiple times one employee at the store even re entered the email and nothing. Today I go back in and once again the same thing. I was told to contact the rewards number at the bottom of the receipt. The first call seemed to be getting somewhere when the representative said he was working wit IT to get it fixed. After 15 minutes the call went dead. I called back, and OH MY GOD!!! The person was both rude and condescending and had no grasp of the English language. Even laughing at me as I repeatedly and calmly explained the situation which she never did. When I asked to be transferred to a supervisor she refused and said she would never do that. At that point I gave up thanked her and hung up. At this point I have several expired coupons and several active coupons. None of which can be used. This has been an incredible hassle to which both the store employees and customer service just don't care. read more

We went to look at lizards. Alex helped us out when we asked to hold one. She was very knowledgeable about each type of lizard they offered. She knew which ones were friendly and which ones were feisty. She gave us a lot of time and attention. She even went to get a couple crickets so we could see the lizards eat. I am sad to say that I have bought two pets from there- a guinea pig, and a bearded dragon and they are supposed to live long, about up to ten years or twice that. My guinea pig lived 1 year, and my bearded dragon only lived a few months. My bearded dragon died about a month or two before Christmas and I got him in the summer. read more

Do not adopt from OC ARC Orange County Animal Rescue Coalition that brings their kittens and cats to this Petco. I was willing to pay $165 for a kitten. I lost my 14 year old sister cats just 5 months ago 3 months apart, and I am ready to spoil a kitten again and raise her to be a happy cat. The adoption application for OC ARC is not only intrusive, but does not show that you ARE a responsible pet parent in their line of questions. I was denied because I answered that my cat will be an indoor/outdoor cat. They do not want their cat outdoors.. That is none of their business. All my cats have had access to my yards. A happy cat is not locked up in the house. I went to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter and adopted a 8 week old kitten .. for FREE! they also will neuter...for FREE.. The OC ARC is getting these kitten and cats from the shelters .. for FREE. I just started to spoil my new addition.. Not yet named her, this is her first day with her loving family. BEWARE of this so called Caring organization that want to place kitten and cats into loving homes. They are Judgmental Jerks! read more

I always Forget to leave a review on this petco store Not going to lie to all the Petcos I been too this one specific will be my favorite one no offense to the other petcos. Why I say that because everyone that I know there are very hard working people always trying to give the guest the best experience they can have and need any assistance with anything, always trying to keep the merchandise and food stock well for the guest, making everything clean and checking up on all the animals if they have food and water and look healthy always helping guest with question that they need for their new pets. We've been coming here since the store opened for grooming. Our dog is very afraid of being in a cage and being in the dryer, so we discussed with the store mgr that we would wash him at home and bring him in at opening and wait for him. This worked well for more than a year. Last time, they told us there policy has changed and we discussed about additional charges but with additional services. We said, fine, as long as we could wash him and wait for him. We asked to talk with Mgr Robin but she wasn't there so asked her to call us. 6 weeks later (and stopping by several times and asking for her to call us - never heard from her. We even tried again yesterday). So today we showed up for our appt only to find that we were removed from the schedule can only do it on weekdays. Didn't Robin call you? Very poor customer service. Used to be good. Manager appears to never be there on peak weekend days and will not address customer concerns or call back. read more
