My puppy went through Puppy Training 1 and 2 with their dog trainer, Matt. He did an extremely good job teach her the basics (sit, down, paw, and stay) along with leash training. I could tell she was having fun and really enjoyed seeing him each week. Would recommend his training to anyone who has a puppy and needs some help. read more

The comments on grooming here surprise me. My last dog and my current one have been getting a grooming session with full shed treatment at this Petco for years. The groomer takes great care to get every last bit of blown undercoat. The dog always looks great when I pick her up, and we get a break from shedding dog hair at home for a few weeks. Also, I have had superb customer service from one of the managers. Maybe it helps to be lucky about which staff member you encounter. I think it definitely helps to be polite to the underpaid staff, too. read more

Customer service has been consistent. Although, I've only been here a few times, there was someone always asking if I needed help which I did because I thought my dog had a flea problem. So I went to finally get my dog groomed and they told me the stitches are still in the dog and that we had to get them removed before they groomed her. They of course never mentioned that. So we went to the vet, got the stitches off in 10 minutes. I was fully expecting them to be accommodating after this and both Janelle the manager and everyone down the line at this place said I had to come back another time because they were fully booked!!! Three trips for one grooming, 3 trips to the vet. Folks it should not be this hard to get a dog groomed! If I could give zero stars I would!!!!! To add insult to injury when I originally scheduled the appointment they had to check with the manager to see if they would pay for my grooming fees! I just took my little chihuahua here to get his nails trimmed, and it was a great experience. I wish I could remember the two girls names that were working, but they were extremely sweet. The store is small, and like all Petcos, slightly overpriced. They also happen to be the only pet store in Walnut Creek that sells mice and a good amount of reptile supplies. On top of that, the staff is always friendly, they seem particularly knowledgeable about reptiles (many have snakes) and parking is never an issue, which is always appreciated in WC. read more

I walked into this store, and i use the term loosely, the other day to buy some mice for my two snakes. The first thing i had to do was to chase down one of the employees to get them to open the mice cage for me and get the two mice i needed. It could have taken all but two minutes for them to do so, but they made it longer. I had to wait for the employee to go get a box for the mice and then spent almost fifteen minutes in line to pay five dollars for the mice. Like usual, there was only one cashier and a line long enough to stretch across the street. Don't bother coming in. There prices may be cheaper, but their customer service is of the worst kind. read more

Since getting back into the aquarium hobby, my wife and I have been conversing with Matt who is VERY knowledgeable about fish (He's quick to tell you about his many fish tanks at home, lol). He's passionate about their care and will go above and beyond to help even newbies find their fins. Beyond Matt, the rest of the staff is quite compassionate, knowledgeable, polite and always willing to help. The shelves are usually clean and stocked but more importantly I see the animal habitats being pulled out and cleaned regularly. I don't know how they balance all the work, but this location has a superb staff with fantastic chemistry. This is our favorite Petco out of all the Bay Area due to the amazing staff and will always have our business. read more

Five stars for Kendra! We are new in town and Buzz, our Tibetan Terrier, needed grooming. His hair is so thick (double coat made for Tibetan winters), so it is difficult to work with. We were so pleased with Kendra's skill (and she is such a pleasant person to boot). Buzz looked great, and the price was reasonable. read more

Since I moved Up North in October, I've been taking my fur baby here to get groomed. The groomers/staff are great!! They are always so kind, very loving with the dogs, and always give Bambi the cutest bow in her hair! They trim her nails perfectly and she stops doing "the butt drag" after a visit. I've heard horror stories about other groomers, and I'm happy to say Bambi has never come home with fleas, irritated eyes, nor ear infections - thank god! I trust Petco for my baby's grooming!! read more

Good Petco location. Petco is the only pet store that offers the food that our dog Teddy eats. We recently moved to Orinda and this is the closest Petco location to us. This Petco is reasonably sized and has the usual Petco offerings. Everything is well organized and items are not too difficult to find. Parking can be a little difficult sometimes. This Petco is located in a shopping center complex and parking can be competitive. read more

Overpriced and way understaffed. We go in there to get our gecko crickets and 90% of the time they only have large crickets, which are too large for what we need, and when they actually do have small (almost never have medium which is what I go there to buy) they don't seem to count accurately. I pay almost $5 for 30 small crickets and get shorted. It's just lame, super disappointing. And all the staff is pictured on the wall, but they never seem to have more than one or two employees working and one register open, but they're always super busy! I don't get it. We don't usually come to this particular branch. We were in here once by chance and ran into Cassandra the dog trainer. Once we met her, we decided to enroll our puppy in her class. She is amazing. Great customer service in the store for the most part and they have a wide variety of stuff for dogs and cats. Last time, they were very helpful in helping me find some treats for my two Shih-Tzu's. My experience with the grooming salon has been pretty good, but not amazing. One main thing I didn't like was that the staff in the grooming salon look like they don't want to be there. The groomers here are EXCELLENT!! We've been going here for about 5 years. They keep our puppy info in their computer, so they are easily able to familiarize themselves with our account/preferences. It's usually about a four hour drop and pick up. And they do such a fantastic job on our pup. The last time we went, we had left our dog with a sitter for a month while we were out of town. Unfortunately, he adopted some "friends" while we were gone. The groomers notified us of this, gave him a special "dip" and went FAR BEYOND expectation recommending further insight/instruction on how to treat "friends"/fleas in the future. They recommended environmental friendly control for pet and house--this was NOT the technique of add on sales. To our relief, it did not spread to our house. But this being our first time in all the years of owning pets, we are know knowledgable on the topic in the future. Thank you Petco Groomers! The store has plenty of product--food, toys, housing needs. Our dog had developed an allergic reaction to his food. We took it back and they refunded us immediately--no questions. Our info was in the computer, so we didn't even need a receipt. The sales associate recommended another brand, giving elaborate detail of why it was good for our breed, and to this day, our pup still eats, loves, and is healthy!! We bought my daughter's first pet fish here, and they were amazing! Brendan in the fish department was super helpful and knew everything there was to know about the right fish, equipment and accessories we needed. He was very knowledgeable and took a lot of time with us to pick out just the right fish. He also gave us a quick intro to the adorable iguana and chameleon, and even let us pet them, which was super sweet. read more

I have never encountered an issue here. I buy Raco's food here and have him groomed almost monthly. My dog is a rescue and absolutely scared of EVERYONE. He has adjusted to Reese and almost everyone else that works at the grooming salon. If you have a timid dog I highly recommend Reese. The employees are all so kind, sweet, patient, and just do an amazing job. As a customer I leave feeling satisfied and extremely happy with everything. Keep up the amazing work guys!!!! read more

I have been here many times since getting my rescue pup on 6/30/12. They have a good selection of everything I have needed. They have been helpful and friendly, even remembering my pup and commenting on her growth. I haven't done much price comparison shopping but I feel it's a value due to 'one stop shopping', return policy and use of coupons (for rescues). I have a cat with sensitive skin a something of a nervous condition- he pulls his fur out, at first we thought it was just over cleaning and chewing but after about 3 weeks we noticed that he was biting his skin and pulling out chunks of fur, and his vet only gave him allergy pills and cortizone shots, SOO in desparation I went to this groomimg department and asked the ladies there for help, Angela and Kendra showed real concern and helped me find products to soothe is skin and even a spray to stop him from chewing on himself. This is a review for Puppy Training. I started coming to this location with my puppy for puppy social on Sundays. Haley, a very sweet young woman, impressed me with her knowledge of pet behavior and gave us some good pointers. I had never thought puppy training was necessary - after all they know how to be a puppy, right? BUT her understanding of canine behavior and psychology convinced me to give it a try. We are currently in puppy 1 classes. Designed to go over the important grass roots commands. I am amazed at how quickly my puppy is catching on based on her style. It isn't just the puppy who is getting trained - Haley is teaching us how to train our 4 legged baby... and it works! I just got home from lesson 3 and feel like we are making so much progress so quickly. A big factor is Haley's knowledge and her ability to answer our questions clearly and completely. She does not mind if we ask the same question over again - as her level of patience is very high. I do plan to continue with our lessons after this series of classes are complete. I like the idea of having a fun loving animal that is also obedient. BTW - she taught us the right way to get a dog to stop begging at the dinner table - and it worked within 2 meals. I tried Petco groomers in a different location and was not impressed. But we took our new rescue here last week and they did a great job considering her total melt down. Our groomer (Angela?) seemed to truly care about our dog's well-being. Customer service was good and we were able to get a quick appt. But some of the cashiers could really learn from their peers. They lack any sort of enthusiasm. Also, they've been very low on treats for the last couple of months. My dog looks so pathetic since his grooming at your store in Walnut Creek today March 1st. I spoke to the groomer before hand and requested NO side skirt (as they had done another time). To feather his legs and under-carrage.He (an English Cocker) was buzz cut everywhere but his ears. You can't imagine what a shock this was. Gratefully , it will grow back, Ithink your groomers need a refresher course. I even showed her a picture of how he should look...Just what didn't she understand!?! Normally I hate these corporate pet shops. I worked in a Mom&Pop as a kid, basically grew up there in a shop back east. Corporate shops kill Mom&Pops and they usually suck. As well I had a horrible experience at this PetCo 2 years ago. I went today for some fish food. While there I checked the fish and they looked great. Damien helped me and was great. I bought some fish and stuff. I'm very happy. They have 30 day guarantee on fish which to me is unheard of. I recommend these guys for fish. read more

I took my dog here for a shampoo and ear cleaning. I was greeted by the grooming lady about 3 minutes after arriving. My dog is shedding right now and they got rid most of the excess hair. She also smells really good. I would have given this place 5 stars if the people were a little nicer.
