This is the first time my husband and I ever left our fur baby with a doggy daycare. I read many great reviews about this place, so we had to give it a try. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday evening. We were waiting maybe 5 minutes before someone was available to check us in. It took a little while, we were filling in some paperwork, but after about half an hour, we dropped our baby off with them. Two days later, we picked up our little boy and he seemed very happy to see us, but at the same time, he was very comfortable with the workers there as well. I am sure the workers there were taking very good care of our dog. He smelled very nice when we picked them up because the package we chose comes with a bath. I can't exactly remember the package we chose, but I think for an upgrade of like $5 more, your dog gets to run around and spend time with the other dogs for like 6 hours. I'm sure our dog loved that very much, just socializing and having fun with the other dogs. If we are ever back in the area and need a daycare for our pup, we will definitely be back! read more

DANGEROUS PLACE FOR ANIMALS. My dog has been boarded here several times and every single time has come back with injuries. She's gotten to a point where she has extreme anxiety to even enter the establishment. I don't know if they purposefully mistreat animals or if they neglect them while they are with the other animals. It takes about a week after picking my dog up for her to go back to normal and to stop limping and to gain her personality back. DOG OWNERS BEWARE!! According to their assistant manager, Christina, your dog's paw pad can get ripped off by running on their turf. See picture for reference. Their staff is negligent of the dogs and do not take accountability over the incidents that happen under their care. I placed my dog in boarding for an extended weekend and they discharged him to me as if everything was fine. Upon bringing him home, I noticed there was missing skin on his paw pad. I immediately called the front desk about this and they told me they would discuss proper review during their staff meeting as everyone who worked with him failed to notice the injury. They also mentioned that it would only be right that they cover any vet fees as they admit this happened under their care. I was not able to take my dog in to see a vet until 4 days later due to lack of availability. Half a week had passed and there had been some natural healing so the vet tells us we should allow his paw to continue healing this way. He was not prescribed any treatment. I followed up with their manager Krystle to provide his vet bill which included the wellness check and she now tells me that since no treatment was required, Pete and Mac is not willing to reimburse me. They expect me to move along because they've "apologized and wish Champ a speedy recovery". This establishment takes NO accountability and should not be trusted. read more

We have used Pete and Mac's pet resort up until now because the last 2 times we brought our German shepherd in, she was in really bad shape when we picked her up. She could barely walk, had cuts on her face and would hardly eat for a week. That was the first stay which we thought ok, maybe she just wasn't feeling good. The next time, exactly the same experience and when I took her to drop her off, she literally tried to jump in my arms which told me there is something wrong that she doesn't like that place. We picked her up and she again was hardly able to move and would not eat. She is 4, very active, and always can eat usually but was limping really bad too. It took her a week both times to get back to her regular happy self. Twice was enough for us to wake up to the fact that something is happening there that is not right. Never again will I take my pup there and I recommend that no one does. If my pup could talk, I would probably be horrified to the tales she would tell. Not worth it in any way shape or form...please do better for your pup, they are family! Stay far away from this place. They are very accommodating if you need to adjust your boarding days. I booked my dog here over the holiday weekend. He is a four month old puppy and this was his first time in a 'pet resort'. They had over 200 dogs that weekend and seemed overwhelmed. They stated I didn't need to bring anything for him except for a leash. This was the first red flag because dogs cannot switch their food without some sort of stomach issue. I brought his food. I had to pay for a bigger room because they only had a larger size size left. I did not purchase an exit bath, etc. When I picked him up he was soaking wet and had some food left over. He had diarrhea for two days after pick up implying they did not feed him his regular food. He was soaking wet from them spraying him with hose assuming he was covered in pee and feces. Once we got home I was able to bathe him and found dried poop in his paws. read more

I boarded my two dogs last week. Both are fully vaccinated. Both were completely healthy when dropped off for their six day stay. One of my dogs came back with kennel cough. The other with a horrible case of conjunctivitis. Being reasonable it's difficult to place complete blame on Pete and Mac's, but they were not dropped off with these issues, and both are absolutely tied to cleanliness and the health of dogs they're boarding. read more

Took a tour. smelled awful, it was super loud and dark. I wanted to free all the dogs. Dogs are kept. Their "den" way too long and are forced to use the bathroom in their sleeping space. Ask them for yourselves how long dogs stay in their den without bathroom breaks, then you decide if that seems fair. I love my dogs too much to bring them here for boarding. read more

Cody the pet guardian is the best! She was knowledgeable about my dogs and what they were doing and needed while we were out of town! She informed me My black dog Tuxedo enjoyed play group with the big dogs in the playyard. My Rednose rescue enjoyed playing with her brother and getting attention from the staff. I am super particular about my furbabies but Pete and Macs is the best second to being at home. Pete And Mac's is different than most other pet resorts in that there is a person at location 24 hours a day. It is never just video monitor. There is an urgent care Veterinarian right next-door in case of emergencies. They have extra add-ons like peanut butter filled Kong's and specialty treats. Worst experience EVER. Had taken my dog at the Lenexa KS location for YEARS and never had any issues but tried and use their groomer and it was an awful experience. First she cancelled on me due to the weather... no issues with that and totally understand. Then I cancelled on her and I got a text from the groomer stating that if I cancel again she will not book with me again. Are you f'ing kidding me? So I show up for his grooming appointment at 7am and gave explicit instructions that my 15 yo dog was NOT to be put in a kennel. At 3:30PM I message her to see if my dog was done with his grooming and I received a text back 45 minutes later saying no. At this point I'm in the parking lot... go into to pick him up even though he's not been groomed yet and was told that she won't be booking us again. WTF? Horrible business practices read more

I am a seasonal nurse in the area and was fortunate to be told by a local vet about Pete & Macs! I have used them numerous times for boarding and also daycare. Look elsewhere. We have been taking our dog here for three years. The first two years were wonderful. She doesn't like the kennel, so we pay the extra $7 for her to have a treat at night, extra time with staff, and an exit bath. The staff was so sweet and knew her by name. Each time she was relieved to come home, but nonetheless our usual, healthy dog when we picked her up. Something has changed. The last two times have been a complete reversal of what we have come to expect. A few months ago, we picked her up after a three day stay and she obviously had not had an exit bath. She reeked of urine and her hair was greasy. This is a dog who does not like being dirty, so it was very out of character. We had to wonder what in the world happened? She also had a cough that got worse with time. This most recent time, they returned her covered in a powdery substance (perhaps they think dry shampoo is an exit bath?) Worse than that, they gave us back all of the food we brought for three days. Did she eat at all? Did they feed her their off brand food? As a result, she was sick for 24 hours, vomiting and pacing. There are dozens of places in town to spend your money on your beloved dog. In our case, we will happily find a new place. Somewhere with cameras and integrity next time. I wanted to like this place but the second time boarding my dog here was less than satisfactory. Customer service needs improvement. I checked my dog in with a girl who had a hole in her shirt with her belly button peeking through. She was not friendly and got impatient when I asked her to repeat a question because I couldn't hear her over the noise. When I picked my dog up after one night of boarding, I waited over 15 minutes for them to bring her out. During this time I watched the dogs in the daycare window, pee and poop everywhere and the attendant in the room with them looked like he was just pushing the mess around with a mop with no regard for supervising the dogs. I felt for these dogs and for the owners who probably have no idea what is going on while they are away! When they brought my dog out she was still somewhat wet and clumps of fur falling out and flying everywhere. I get it's a departure bath...but why no quick brushing? And why was my dog returned to me smelling like pee?!? You lost a customer, Pete and Mac's and my recommendation too! read more

Don't board your pet here! I picked up my dog after a 4-day stay. His bed and blanket which I provided for him was soaked and smelled like urine. Who knows how long it was like that! He's had diarrhea for two days since I picked him up. They didn't feed him his food which I provided with clear feeding instructions. Anyone with a pet, let alone anyone who works with pets knows not to suddenly change their food. We signed up our fuzzy kids to be staying for 5 days in the cabana and large casa grande (love the terms they use). We drove them here and parked in their driveway area (with shade, straight in front of the doors). Wasabi and Magnum ran inside. They were greeted by Rachel (who they remember and love from the another boarding facility). Rachel was another big reason we choose Pet and Mac's. Each fuzzy kid was tagged with an id collar (like a hospital band). They asked if anyone would be coming by to check on them or if we wanted, we can email them and they could status us their stay... COOL! I was very sad to wave bye to my fuzzy kids, but I needed to make it to the cruise in Long Beach. During our vacation, I emailed with Pete and Mac's a few times. Each time they would respond within hours. It was nice to know what is going on. And the updates were cute! We dropped by to pick up the fuzzy kids. It was neat. They have a package prepared for us: play time report cards, spaw (grooming) report card, and each fuzzy kid had an id card with their picture. It was so nice. The groomer happened by be at the front desk when we were there. She mentioned a few things to us to check on the fuzzy kids health. I have boarded my dog at the Avondale location on numerous occasions. The first time he wasn't neutered yet, and when he came home he had quarter sized sores on his genitals that were scabbed over. This was not reported to me in his checkout. The second time I boarded he did the daycare and had a scabbed nose, this was also not reported to me. I understand dogs get rough when they play, but I want to know about it. I also take him to their daycare on Saturdays. Once I requested a late pickup, and I was swarmed by employees very aggressively telling me how my dog is too hyper and he gets too "intense" when he plays. They tried to lessen their approach by first saying he's still welcome, but the approach was less than welcoming. They also raised the price of the daycare from $11 to $22 without posting or letting me know this increase upon check-in. When I went to pay for my dog, he had already been there all day so I had no choice but to pay the increased amount. That day I dropped him off I also requested that I be told if he is placed in time out at all, and the lady said to me, "Yeah we have a pretty rough group out there...they don't like rough dogs." Now, as an overprotective mommy, this made me feel totally unwelcome, and I'm afraid it was the icing on the cake with my overall experience with this place. Their prices also continually seem to increase. We will no longer be utilizing their facility due to not feeling welcome, not being adequately reported on injuries, and outrageous prices that are not communicated properly. read more

My two fur babies both had valley fever and were on medications. Having used the boarding services from Pete and Macs for our last five boarding needs, I asked if the staff was able to accommodate medication disbursement and was informed it was not a problem, so went ahead with arrangements. Carefully prepared all their individual medication packettes, one for each girl for morning and one for each girl for evening. Their meds were not identical so caution was required. I also carefully packed up their meals in individual packettes, the larger dog requiring more. Having Valley Fever requires having good nutrition to keep up the dogs immunity and nutrition levels, so in order for them to thrive better, I also packed up a 4 to 5 oz. packet of boiled chicken breast for each meal to entice the girls to eat their kibble and at the least, get some nutrition with the chicken if they weren't wanting the kibble. I did everything in my power to be able to go pick up healthy and happy girls. Even the intake worker stated "my, aren't you organized". This was my older\smaller girl's fifth time being boarded there and Pete and Macs had our trust as a good, caring facility. It was the third stay for the younger\larger girl. We took the girls in on Sept 2. Received a call around the third day stating there was a comfort issue with my older baby. I stated her veterinarian would possibly be able to make room for her, as I had spoken with them prior. Pete and Macs rechecked and yes, it was possible. They said they'd wait and see how she was overnight and in the morning said she was a bit better. They never took her to her vet or even the emergency vet in the complex. Our flight arrived on time on Sept. 10, and called them to alert we would be there later to retrieve our babies. Evidently at that time, they set to bathing them. We arrived 3 or 4 hours later. The larger/younger doggy was brought out first and practically jumped into my husband's arms and I immediately saw how thin she was. I was paying the bill awaiting my older baby's arrival, and when she wasn't out yet, Krystal the manager stated she'd go see what the holdup was. She never resurfaced while we were there, but one young man came out carrying my old girl who was pantIng heavily and was totally wet and matted on her one side. He claimed she couldn't get her footing on their floor so could he place her in the vehicle. I said sure, but soon discovered big mistake! We drove home and found our old baby could not walk, couldn't even stand, couldn't anything. Had no idea, she was floppy, hubby stated it was like she was drugged! We waited until the next morning to see how she was before doing anything. She was no longer floppy but could not walk. I called Krystal and asked what happened during boarding, she couldnt/wouldn't offer any helpful info. Well, we took her down to the closest emergency vet where she passed within the hour. Less than 24 hours after picking up from boarding. I would say MAYBE it was a fluke, however, after five days of being home, we were finally able to get our big girl into her vet. She had green eye boogers (infection), diarrhea, and was still 6.5 lbs down. Meds were required for eyes and diarrhea; eyes cleared up fairly quick with antibiotic drops but diarrhea took a month with antibiotics and still is troublesome to a point. This all breaks my heart which is why I waited a month to write. Krystal was informed of my baby's passing and refunded two-thirds of our boarding fee. This doesn't even begin to help heal! We received no answers and have lost total confidence. This is no longer the happy, healthy, thriving business it once was. All I can say is, BEWARE! read more

Mediocre at best! We payed the extra $5 a night for our dog to get the extra playtime, a frozen treat, and a bath at the end of her stay and they didn't give her a bath. We called the day before we were going to pick up our dog to verify and confirm her pickup time, and then we also called 30 minutes before her pickup time to verify that they were going to give her a bath. We immediately realized when we got her that she wasn't bathed so I went back in- and all they would do is give her a "free" bath next time... (even tho we had already paid for it). If they can't even follow through with something so simple like a bath, what makes us think they even gave her her extra playtime or frozen treat? Definitely won't be coming back read more

I won't ever take a pet here again. My 14 y/o rescued Lhasa was there 5 days and her bed came back stinking of urine. She would NEVER have soiled her bed if she'd been let outside. We came out from California to visit family for the 4th of July weekend and we wanted to board our 50lb Husky and not be a static of lost dogs during 4th of July fireworks. We were recommended to Pete and Mac's by a friend. We're from Orange County California so we have very hIgh expectation. We stayed in surprise so it was about 20 mins away. The area is nice with ample parking and a pet hospital right next door which gave me peace of mind. When we drove up there was a shaded area to pull in right next to the door. We were immediately greeted by a bubbly staff member Krystle who is the manager. Krystle asked about Nova's feeding schedule and if she could play with the other dogs etc very thorough! We asked a lot of questions about the play yard, keeping them cool during play, who watches them during play time and Krystle happily explained and reassured. We felt confident leaving Nova there and didn't worry once! When we picked up Nova she had gotten her requested groom she was super happy smelled great and when she got home she was sooo tired from playing. We 110% will use this facility again and HIGHLY recommend anyone who loves their pets to board,groom and do daycare here! Thank you Krystle for an incredible experience! read more

I called around to board dogs for this Thanksgiving. Found this place which seemed fine over phone....told wife to check 'em out. it took exactly ten seconds in the door before the employees there made my wife feel uncomfortable..... they didn't say hello, instead barking at her "ARE YOU HERE TO PICK UP A DOG?" she told them she wanted to know more about the store, and they suddenly seemed disinterested, telling her "we'll get someone to talk to you" then let her stand for a few minutes while they returned to chatting casually...... a few minutes later a guy came out and again made her feel like she was taking up his valuable time. She wasn't allowed to see the play areas, apparently the tour means "partial tour." I got a very stressed out phone call stating that "there was no way in hell we were leaving our animals there" TWO OTHER BUSINESSES told us "yeah, we get a lot of business from them for that reason" after hearing our story...kind of a chronic problem, then? BUSINESS 101 guys: DON"T ALIENATE NEW CUSTOMERS! this is going to be a $300 board, and your competitor is getting our business. SO...the next day we went to Camp Bow Wow Peoria...WOW! the owner talked to Janet on phone the day before for 30 minutes! we were greeted warmly and given a full tour by a very enthusiastic young lady... AND they only charge $60/NIGHT FOR 2 DOGS VICE $83.50 + ALL THE EXTRA SERVICES YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR (play time, treats, Medicine administration, baths, etc at Pete and Macs, its ALL INCLUSIVE at Camp Bow Wow...even free bath with 4 night stay!). The day we went out to see it, The owner spoke with us for about 30-45 minutes, including talking to me about the franchise (I am looking to buy a business). I'm giving one star for their policy of requiring cats to have up to date rabies shots to board. This is not a state law and statistically rabies is not a huge threat to suburban dwellers. Also, the rabies vaccine has a known half life of 10 years and huge risks in over vaccinating. When I called to make an appointment, I was told my cat needed to be current on vaccines, but no mention of rabies. So when I show up to drop off my cat and have no rabies vaccine (and have a plane to catch in three hours) I'm told to go to Petsmart to get one. I ended up leaving. I had a neighbor watch my cat, which wasn't ideal but this place deserves no ones business. Oh yeah ... their staff was disconnected and rude. I'll use an in-house bonded and insured pet sitter in the future. The cost is really not that much more. Yelp has some good ones in the Avondale area. read more

We were told that they would have to go short because her hair was so matted. We've taken her to another groomer who took far better care of her and never once shaved her almost to skin. This place was my go to for day care, boarding and grooming. Until the day came when I picked up my dogs from day care and they smelled like dog urine. This place is understaffed and over crowded. The check in and check out process is a massive pain, they take a long time. Majority of the time I'm rushing to get to work. No luck at a quick process here. Half the time they are either on the phone or running dogs to the back. The staff are rude and constantly call my dogs "crazy." I have had enough of this place, I am honestly at the point where I'm worried for my dogs health and safety. I have moved them over to a different day care not far from my house. (So much better and very professional) Never again will I step a foot or a paw into this establishment. They have lost my business. The staff needs a revamp on their customer service skills, they also need additional staff support. Money hungry corporations are ridiculous. Lame excuses after the other. We have been coming here for years now. The staff is Amazing. We are probably the worst customers and yet they always take us back and treat our dog with top notch care. We always call last minute and they still make room for us and we hardly ever pick up on time and yet they still treat us with the best customer service. The front desk ladies are truly the best. They were wonderful during our recent stay. Our 5 day trip ended up being two weeks due to a death in the family. They were gracious enough to offer us a discount and never hassled us about the sudden extended stay. While there are probably cheaper options for boarding, you will not find a better facility filled with more understanding and wonderful employees. For these reasons will will always choose Pete and Macs as our go to doggie facility. read more

My dog is a Banfield Pet Hospital member. We always take him to get his usual appointments, etc. We also normally use the grooming service associated with PetSmart. Our dog gets very anxious when anyone tries to clip his nails, and in fact, the vet won't even do it unless he's asleep. However, we decided to give this place a chance to win our business. We dropped him off for doggy day care and then asked for him to be groomed at the end of the day just before we picked him up. They did an excellent job with his grooming service. They even clipped his nails!!!!!!!!!!!! Ranger will be back to this place frequently. We will now give this place our business. They demonstrated their ability to work with animals and calm them enough to get done what needs to get done. He was also very exhausted from playing with all the other dogs all day. 5 stars!!!!!!!!!! read more

This place is a nightmare! I took my 2 six month English Bulldogs here while we went on vacation. We left them with their care for 6 days. I do not think my babies are going to live. Their vaccines are current we take them to our local pet hospital. Buck the smallest is approximately 35 lbs. He came home with goopy eyes & horrible diahrea. He now has a prolapsed urethra and bleeds from his penis every time he's excited. There is no cure. Surgery is the only answer but the specialist said she can guarantee we will have to do the procedure again. It's only $2800. She said the surgery is not an emergency, and I could probably just deal with the bloody mess so that he doesn't have to go thru the surgery. My house looks like a chainsaw massacre happened if I don't clean the blood up at least 3 times a day. My other Baby Duke is coughing & boogery in his eyes & nose. Really bad green mucus! He lays around in a blankey. These are puppies that were very healthy & playful before we took them to this facility. We spent almost $700 to have them cared for. We thought it was a top notch place. I have spent over $300 since we picked them up @ emergency hospitals. They are still sick as hell! Do not take your dogs to this facility!!!! We went to the resort in Gilbert. These puppies are my twin boys dogs. My twins are only 9. They think their dogs have cancer & are going to die. I should have stayed home.... read more
