I find this Pete's location clean, organized and with a decent variety to shop from. They had a lot of samples throughout the store as well as sales. As someone who is coming from the city, I take advantage of the vast layout and wider selection. We shopped for things that we could not easily get in the city. Here is my update for Pete's in Glen Ellyn. I go here somewhat regularly even though I don't live that close. Pete's has a good selection of all grocery items. They will have some good deals and also some not too good deals like all grocery stores. Smart shoppers will like the coupons on their app. The produce section is large. Deli is good sized with friendly people working there. What I really like about this location is that it's always clean, always orderly. This is most important to me. Appreciate that Pete's was able to accommodate my catering order less than 48 hour notice. I attempted to order from the Pete's in Lemont but because I could not come in and place the order, customer service wouldn't even allow me to talk to the manager about my request. Now my order wasn't for a party, it was for an unexpected death in the family and services were set up pretty fast so unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time to try and plan out food. When I called, I explained my situation and customer service offered to speak to a manager for me. They did ask if I could come in and place my order, but unfortunately again I couldn't being in the northwest suburbs about an hour away. They said no problem and gave me instructions on how we could place my order and make payment... The hye rolls looked amazing. And they had some fruits and vegetables on the tray for presentation. I loved how the wraps didn't have any mayo- I'm not a mayo fan. I ordered the assortment- the wraps were filled with turkey roast beef and ham- all came with cream cheese, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. The location looked new. It was also very clean. They also have a cafe inside and offer food. I've only ever been to the Lemont location and this one was huge compared to Lemont. Today, my son and I went shopping there for the first time. It's a very nice market--spotless, with high-quality products, and even a clean café. But the cashier was terrible: unfriendly, with a grumpy face, constantly telling me to put the items here or there. I've been in America for three years, and I have never seen someone so unhappy and unpleasant. I just can't understand how such a great market could hire someone like that. read more

On Friday morning, we had to drop off one of our cars for repair. While we were waiting for their phone call back, we came to this place to find some kind of breakfast. Even though we arrived there at 9:10am, i saw this beautiful salad / hot meal bar ready for $9.99/LBs. We were already pretty hungry, so decided to give it a try. First I started picking up lighter foods like salad, but later I found some well cooked meat and rice on display as well. So it did ended up like a big lunch box. Surprisingly, for a hot meal bar, they offer a very good quality. A lot of healthy vegetables, soft and fluffy rice, meat items were hot and tender in your mouth. Absolutely they went way above what I expected. After easily eating them all, we looked around the shop. Some employee was making sushi on the counter, more fresh meals were being carried out of the kitchen. Deli counter, cheese collection, meat products etc, everything looks clean and tidy. They have a good international isle too. It will be fun to try out a lot of stuff for a while. I was impressed with their quality of the foods and excited to look around. This review only concerns the BAKERY at the Glen Ellyn Pete's. Otherwise, I really like shopping at Pete's. For many months, we were buying donuts for Sunday church (3 dozen assorted, every other week). They do a great job with donuts; fresh, yummy, and a nice variety of decorations. We always got positive comments from our church folks. THEN, there were a few instances of pushback when we went in to order (in advance, as required). Apparently they had to "ask the baker" if they could do it, as if we'd never made this order before. Their attitude was grudging, no longer helpful. They wanted to charge $1 per donut, instead of the 12-pack price. It became clear that our once-every-two-week order was just an inconvenience; consequently, we've had to go elsewhere. I know people who drive half an hour out of their way to go to Pete's, but I didn't really get it til one opened nearby. I like this one better than the one in Villa Park. They have a wider selection of organic produce than Trader Joes; a better selection of nondairy cheese equivalents than Whole Foods; and all sorts of products from around the world (various European countries; India). The quality of the produce has been excellent. Good selection of organic frozen foods and vegetarian meat alternatives / prepared foods, too, and it can be fun to pick up a peace lily or lemon tree from the front of the store. I haven't needed help often, but when I did an employee was able to help me out (once I found one). I would never buy alcohol here as they keep it under lock and key, but otherwise I enjoy shopping here. read more

I used to shop at the Oakbrook Terrace store all the time so I'm thrilled to have a Pete's closer to home. Here's the trick: know what you're coming here for. If you're the kind of person who just buys cereal, milk, eggs, fruit, shredded cheese, very basic "American" food, this might not be the store for you. But if you regularly look for things that aren't at Mariano's or Jewel, it's fantastic. First this store is huge. The selection is so wide and varied. They seem to have everything. I wandered around in a daze. Tons of imported food in every area. Plenty of vegan options. Frozen food from all over the world. Need pancit, gojujang, paneer, rice noodles, a 20 lb bag of jasmine rice, fresh donuts, and smoked salmon? Pete's has you covered. I wanted to thank the Manager of this fine establishment for providing free food to Halal food eaters. While getting a snack for on the way to work, I observed several people eating out of the hot food areas, specifically the area with the majority of Halal food. I'm pretty sure that the cost of the food is based on weight, so putting it in ones belly will really help reduce ones food cost! Of course, pointing out that eating out of the steam tables while standing in front of them is verboten, as it may generate shrieks of "Islamophobe", and we don't want that. Every time I've gone into this store, I've entered with high expectations and been consistently disappointed. Last week's visit literally took the cake. The store is poorly laid out and inefficiently set up. If you enter on the east side, you have to zig zag through the aisles to get a cart on the west side of the store. I've found staff eager to help, but typically either uninformed or simply unaware or unable to provide direction or assistance without needing to ask a manager or coworker. I've never been able to get in and out quickly and every time I've had to follow up with a trip to the Jewel or WalMart down the street to get everything I needed. We decided to give the store another shot and ordered a birthday cake last week. When my spouse went to pick it up, the bakery staff was confused and couldn't locate our order. They eventually found it, but couldn't confirm through their own records that the cake had been paid for in advance without a copy of the receipt, which I had to locate and text a photo to him as proof. The cake was not well decorated (though the hand writing was nice) and didn't look particularly appetizing. When we served it our fears were confirmed as it was easily THE WORST bakery cake I have ever purchased. We threw most of it away and apologized to the birthday celebrant and our guests for how awful it was. It was flavorless, the buttercream frosting was thin and almost watery, and the cake itself was dry like sawdust. Also - save your money and do not buy the bakery cookies. Like the cake, they're dry and flavorless. The kolackis are not fruit filled, but the fruit is piped onto the ends only. At $10/lb., they're not worth it. read more

I feel like this place is a solid 3. It's well stocked but not well priced. I do better at other stores in the area for produce sales and such. Their bakery items too aren't always that fresh. But I like their prepared items like salads and wraps. They are huge, where you can easily make two meals out of it. They also have such a crazy large selection of drinks! Energy drinks, bottled coffee, pop, juice... it's fun to have so many choices if picking up lunch on the go. I will continue to shop here from time to time, but it won't be on my regular rotation. read more

I went here on a Sunday with my sister around 4:45 PM. The store is clean, every thing looked great. However, what was most irritating was how loud the over head music was. What a clean, organized store. We appreciated the produce selection, hot and salad bar, and bulk pack foods. We bought a pack of fresh chicken and the wrapper was clean. Super clean. I've never seen that before. No need to put it into a bag. Good job meat department. Much appreciated. Ken met us in the aisle. He said kind words. Then he stopped by again and asked if we had any questions. I was having trouble finding roasted pea cans. He walked me right to where they were. So helpful. Made us feel welcome and wanting to come back. It didn't stop there. Paulina at the register was kind, helpful, and personable. Ken even gave us a box of masks to share with our family. My family lives very close to this new location and we excitedly awaited the grand opening for months as the building was remodeled. My wife went yesterday for her first 'trip' to Pete's to pick up the weekly groceries. When she got home she did not look happy. She said she couldn't do our 'everyday' shopping there because the prices are outrageous ($4.89 for a 1/2 gallon of milk!) and the store is too grandiose with multiple meat counters, cheese counters, a buffet, and a deli - and getting in and out with any kind of efficiency would be impossible. She did come home with pork chops - which were NOT good. We'll be sticking with Marianos (for organic meat) and the Jewel for the rest of what we need. read more

None of their sale prices were listed on Instacart, so I had to manually enter them. Several sale items were out of stock even tho it was the first day of the sale. The fruit I bought, raspberries and mangos were on sale and were overripe and rotted within 2-3 days. I also bought spareribs, one flab rotted within 4 days begotten I even had a chance to cook it. And, instead if long spare ribs, the slab was cut in half lengthwise so there where little 2" ribs. One end of the slab was a bunch of bones that you had to pick thru. I was asked to leave today because I was not wearing a mask. I told the manager that I have a medical exemption. He said it didn't matter, everyone has to wear one that walks in the store. I then repeated, I have a medical exemption and could faint here on the floor. He asked to see some paperwork, I asked him if he carries paperwork around on his medical conditions. He said it didn't matter, I had to wear one. I said it was not the law, and that it is a recommendation, but completely unenforceable- I had just called the Glen Ellyn Police Department and they stated they were not enforcing any of the governor's recommendations. For the Petes Fresh Market in Glen Ellyn: I had a TERRIBLE experience at this location!! I had found strawberries on sale for 99 cents( yellow sticker) and had bought them. The cashier rang them as $1.99. I told her it was 99 cents. She then agreed to ring them as 99 cents, HOWEVER, the MANAGER came and stopped her midway rudely, saying it is $1.99 and I will be paying that price. I told her I saw the sticker for 99 cents, so she went to find it. She came back with a smiling saying there WAS NO STICKER and to go SHOW HER? I went back with her and the STICKER WAS REMOVED! She had went back to remove the sticker and began to make me look stupid. She kept treating me so disrespectfully and was downright bullying me! For freaking strawberries? Are you kidding me?! The manager was an overweight hispanic woman at the Glen Ellyn location, to be honest, she needs to be FIRED. I left quickly to avoid tearing up and she kept getting in my way when I went to pick up bags, telling me to have a nice day. Treating me like trash and forcefully trying to get a response out of me is NOT GOOD CUSTOMER service. read more

I love Pete's. But I don't know if I can continue to patronize it. Every time I go into it, there are customers without masks -- something I seldom or never experience at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or even Mariano's. When I complained recently to their central office, the rep told me they felt confronting customers would put their employees at risk of physical confrontation. Okay, I don't want that. What I don't get is why other stores don't seem to have this same problem. Are Pete's customers more aggressive than, say, those who shop at Trader Joe's? And what I also don't get is why one of their managers always seems to have her mask over her chin, not her mouth or nose. I understand some people don't like masks, and respect that. But it is the law and nearly all public health experts agree wearing them reduces risk of viral transmission. So Pete, could you find a kind way to help your mask resistant customers comply with the governor's order? Maybe you could start by making sure your leaders model safe behavior. And maybe you can ask leaders at other stores how they keep their employees and customers safe. read more
