I was really excited to check this place out as it is a fairly new place and is in my hometown. My mom raved about it for a while as her new go to Greek food spot. I found out at my high school reunion (this past fall) that it is owned by a friend I graduated with (pleasant surprise). I spoke with her at the reunion and was even more excited to try the food! My mom ordered a family meal for us. There were five of us eating and it was plenty of food. They allowed her to split the protein and she got half gyro meat and half chicken. They were both excellent and the servings were solid. You could order 2 different dips and my mom doubled up on the tzatziki. This was also excellent. The Greek salad was very good (I only had a little because I'm not a huge salad person). You were also able to get a side and we got the lemon potatoes (which was good). The meal also came with pita bread. Altogether I thought everything was excellent. All 5 of us ate until we were stuffed and there were some leftovers (that I took with me). I think the meal was a little less then $60 after tax, which made it a solid deal. My mom says that the staff is always friendly and accommodating (they allowed her to order half and half on the meat), which is so important (to me as I like variety). They were clean and organized and busy. I will absolutely be back and would suggest that we order another family meal (maybe mix up some of the selections). read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. So i decided to come in tonight before the storm that Long Island was going to get. Upon walking in I was greeted by the worker behind the counter. I told him that I'd never been here before and I needed a few minutes to look over the menu. The menu is big and posted right on the wall. Bright and easy to read. I went with the chicken gyro platter with veggies. I had a choice of rice, fries, potatoes, or veggies. The veggies consisted of peppers, onions and zucchini. A little too much peppers for my liking. It also came with a small salad. The chicken gyro meat was super flavorful and not salty at all. I enjoyed every bite. The portion was super generous as well. Lots of meat! I am a fan of Pete the Greek! Solid lunch option, especially if you work in the area because they are QUICK. They waste no time here and work with urgency, yet they are still very pleasant and friendly...a combo that I really appreciate. I had the chicken souvlaki platter which was delicious, and also massive (not a problem because I love leftovers). Chicken souvlaki, lemon potatoes, Greek salad, and warm pita for $14.07. The menu is not huge by any means but it has the Greek basics that you would typically see in Greece being sold in small shops and on the street. We had the chicken souvlaki and chicken gyro sandwiches. The souvlaki was the best I've ever had on Long Island, hands down. Very flavorful, huge chunks of chicken, great tzatziki, so fresh. And it was massive so I had leftovers for the next day. The chicken gyro was also flavorful and massive, as well. For a side we split the spanakopita (spinach pie). That was the one disappointment at Pete's and the reason I knocked off one star. The dough was overcooked and the spinach filling was very bland. I have found my new favorite Greek restaurant! I tried the Chicken Gyro Pita Sandwich, with a side of Tzatziki, and the Greek Fries. Both were delicious. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the toppings were fresh and crisp. Their Tzatziki is so thick and tasty! The service was great and the restaurant is very welcoming. We asked if they deliver, and they do! We will definitely be ordering from them next time we are stuck working late at the office. I absolutely love Pete the Greek! The staff is always really nice, friendly, and inviting. Both on the phone and in person, the staff is kind and it is really nice that they know their regulars (yes I go THAT frequently!) Their food is so delicious! I usually make my own bowl and it has been great every single time! My sister usually gets a gyro and I really like that they have different sauces to choose from. The gyros, from what I have seen, usually have a generous amount of meat which is super awesome! Also, their French fries are AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I don't like to post even semi-negative reviews - and by no means is Pete the Greek uniformly poor. Their souvlakis, other grilled meat platters and their salads are very good and I have ordered these and picked up from here many times and my family has been satisfied. BUT - for the first time I ordered their Pasticcio, got home and it was so mediocre I called to tell them I was going to get up and bring it back. I suggested I would take a Moussaka as replacement - this also turned out to be mediocre. Keep it simple here with the meats, salads and sides and you won't be disappointed. I didn't expect it, but I loved this place. Came here because I was craving a "meat over rice" lunch that wasn't the usual Halal place I go to. Pete the Greek seemed like a nice spin on the theme. And, boy, was I impressed. This unassuming place is fantastic. I went with the pork souvlaki and chose rice as my side. The platter was $13, which I initially felt was expensive, but realized was very affordable considering what you get. I got a huge mound of flavorful rice with a lot of pieces of pork which had obviously been grilled and taken off a skewer. I didn't expect the full size fluffy pita I got or the whole Greek salad that came on the side. The pork was grilled really well. It was flavorful and tender. A few pieces were a bit dry, but most of it was perfect. I suspect had I chosen chicken souvlaki, I would have enjoyed it even more (assuming they use dark meat). The lemon wedge that came with the meal added a nice acidity to brighten up a rich meal. It was so much food I could have easily saved half for later, but I was enjoying it so much that I ended up eating the whole thing. This place tastes like homey Greek cooking. I'll definitely return to try their other items. The only thing I thought could be changed was their tzatziki sauce. It was so thick that it was more a spread than a sauce. Finally amazing Greek food in Long Island. Pete The Greek is the real deal. Check out my photo of the combo lamb and chicken gyro. That's all I ordered and I'm so stuffed. The platter comes with either a garden salad or a greek salad. Both salads had very fresh ingredients! The tzatziki sauce is delicious and adds so much flavor to the meal. This is actually a fairly good Greek Restaurant for takeout food. They have a fairly small dining area, but most of their customers are ordering meals to go. I have had their spicy feta hummus and eggplant humus which were both good. Also the usual gyro or souvlaki dishes as well. They are all very good and not pricey.
