Just a comfy Korean restaurant with the best, friendliest owners. The old name was Dake Sushi but they changed it to Dake Korean. Although they have a limited raw fish selection, the sushi bar is long gone and their focus is back to traditional Korean only. I remember when we went years ago and the non Koreans would look at our table filled with banchan (Korean appetizers) when theirs only had edamame and sushi...but I digress. Long Island now has a few "Korean" restaurants but this place I feel is the most authentic, they don't charge for the banchan and if you happen to love a particular one or two, you can ask for more. All of the dishes we have tried are seasoned well and made for Korean tastebuds. Cannot say enough about this place, one of my favorite places to go to get a traditional Korean meal without having to cook it myself. read more

Really hit the spot on a cold day. We enjoyed the variety of banchan that came out, especially the raw crab and chayote pickles in dashi broth. My usual soondubu was sizzling hot and tasty. Could have had some more beef. The usual seafood pancake was fried home style with plenty of veggies. Could have had a bit more shrimp. Good as usual. I was really excited to try the agu Jim but I think it's really not my taste. The red sauce it came in was actually a bit too sweet, not like what I expect. The waitress told us to dip it with soy sauce and wasabi but then the taste was like eating boiled sushi.. the monkfish consistency was not like what I expect either.. also too much shrimp. I did like the bean sprouts and chives and watercress in the stew. Overall I would not get the agu Jim next time and would stick to my usuals and maybe try the sushi. Took the drive to old Bethpage for some Korean tofu soup on a cold winter day. There are not much options for Korean tofu in Long Island. There is ample parking in this mini mall. They served a variety of banchan but they did not allow us to pack it when we did not finish it. I'm pretty sure I ordered chicken udon but we were served seafood udon. The octopus was very very chewy in the udon noodle soup as well as the grilled octopus with pork belly. The sauce for pork belly dish was a little overwhelming. The star of the show was the soondubu but we would much rather drive to queens to eat Korean tofu and seafood pancake next time. read more

Came in for lunch. Decided to go with the lunch specials. The prices to portion ratio is fair. There is cash price vs card price. Service was polite. A true mom and pop shop. Contrary to the name though, it's not a sushi spot. It's hearty home cooked tasting Korean food. The hearty broths makes your body warm and fuels my soul. The spicy squid over rice tasted perfect. This store puts it over rice instead of udon which i usually prefer but the rice definitely fills me up more. I finished the entire bowl. The kalbi box lunch set was more vegetables than protein. The kalbi was just OK. The soondooboo and casserole at the next table looked way better. Would definitely come back to try those.. they gave generous portion of banchans. I liked that the fish cakes were less salty/sweet and more naturally fish flavored. Ate here for dinner with 2 other couples. Portion sizes are quite large! The menu is plentiful. Flavor is not quite as good as other Korean restaurants I've been too, but still hits the spots. I got the soy bean stew with beef and it was a little too thick for my liking and only a few pieces of beef. Food did come out extremely fast. Restaurant is also a decent size with plenty of seating. Every time I come to Long Island I think of this place and crave it. It's a small cozy spot but man are the flavors rich! The food is made to perfection, we've been here 4x now and every time they knock it out of the park. They give you good decent size portions. The kimchi is amazing but my favorite is the lotus root that they make !!!! I've never had that till I came here and omg to die for. The staff is kind and friendly, and accommodating with letting you take home what you didn't finish eating. There is a bit of a language barrier but we understand each other. I love this place. Ohhhhhh, what a wonderful "hidden gem" we discovered on our not-as-easy-as-you-might-think quest for reasonably priced Korean food in the general vicinity of my old hometown of Huntington. Our nearest option (in Commack) seems good but SOMEWHAT overpriced, and a deeper search here on Yelp helped us find Dake, which was PERFECT!! Not Korean BBQ (better, IMO...) and much more Korean than Japanese/sushi, we knew we were in for quite a treat as soon as we walked in on a weekday evening (my birthday!!) and found ourselves to be the only non-Koreans in the place. I recommend you STUDY their menu in advance, because it's BIG and like us, you're probably going to want one (or more!!) of just about everything they offer. Although we knew we were going to be offered a variety of ban chan small plates along with our entrees, we (I...) couldn't resist ordering a seafood pancake for the table... GREAT choice!! Our waitress was so helpful and VERY attentive... Our dinners (beef bibimbop, beef bulgogi for my sister, and my friend's VERY tasty Korean eel bowl (can't remember name) were all EXCELLENT. Whilst they are called Dake Sushi - and the sushi part is probably a misnomer - their raw fish/sushi offerings are still a great deal! The Soba Jeungsik special gives you a big hand roll, several big pieces of sushi and sashimi, shumai, and soba noodles with dipping sauce - it's wonderful and highly recommended. This place is old school Korean in the best way possible. I only ordered a kimchi chigae but it was enough. Haven't had this dish taste this good since a trip to Korea in 2001. Didn't find it this good during my 2017 trip. I live in the NYC area and have eaten at numerous Korean restaurants in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn and this is hands-down the best chigae I've had. Seems they use aged kimchi, and it's more of a traditional stew in consistency than the watery soups with spices added on you so often see. If you want traditional food the way a Korean grandma would make it, come here. Most patrons are Korean, getting their soju on while feasting on hearty food. The wooden decor is also reminiscent of Korean restaurants from 20+ years ago and adds to the appeal. read more

Beware if you dine here & check your receipt!!! Overall experience of this restaurant is not good. My family came in around 2:15pm for lunch, on their menu the lunch special is until 3pm, I ordered from the lunch special section of the menu, the waitress tells me that the lunch special is over, at this point it's only 2:25pm, I tell the waitress that the menu says 3pm is when lunch special ends, she checks the clock & laughs it off saying she thought it was already 3pm & then proceeds to let me order from the lunch special section. I ordered the combo beef soup & galbi, there was barely any beef in the soup, when the meal came, there was no egg in the soup, normally I feel that soup comes with an egg but they tell me because it's a combo, there is no egg, they did not put that on the menu anywhere or inform us while ordering, anyway no problem, I can live without egg in the soup. The waitress was dismissive to our request, we asked her for 2 more cups for water because my sisters never got a water cup & she only gave us 1, we asked about 3 times she just ignored our request like she didn't hear it. While dining the waitress also kept looking into the menu & looking at our order. Eventually we finish our meal, the check comes & we check the receipt; they tried to charge us $25 for the lunch combo, the lunch combo I ordered is $19.99. We let the waitress know, she tries to convince us that it's the correct price, I told her no, check the menu, she takes the menu & flips it to like the 3rd page then says see? I told her no, that's not it because I ordered from the lunch special section, which is the last page of the menu. I proceeded to show her what I ordered, she then takes the menu to inspect & goes into the back area to speak to someone, then she comes back, apologies & said she's confused. She then tries to backtrack saying that the $25 is correct & that the price has gone up since last year. We told her that's not what the menu shows, it shows $19.99. Eventually she gives in; the other lady that was standing at the cash register adjusts our bill, she hands us the adjusted bill, also laughs & apologizes saying she got confused while typing up our bill, I don't buy it, there is no way how all the employees there are confused about pricing & what exactly we ordered since the price is on the menu & they hand written our order. I think they are trying to overcharge their customers & that is bad/unethical. I would not come back here because of this experience, it's distasteful how they try to overcharge then try to make excuses/justify what they did when they get caught. read more

Sushi Dake for a going away lunch was a delicious Korean good eats surprise, locally here on Long Island. For very minimal cost I was able to try Korean cold appetizers spread that had kimichee spicy (but not too spicy) pickled vegetables and tofu. Who knew I could like a form of tofu...usually I say 'No'fu to Tofu, something about the texture and taste. Although will say their preparation was totally edible. It came along with an egg drop like small cup of soap. I followed this with a very tasty plate of Udon Noodles with chicken. Definitely food of plenty as I had to take home at least half. Lunch and Dinner for one reasonably low cost...i'm in and if you are looking to try something new, or just learn to build your palette for Korean and Japanese styled food, try Sushi Dake! read more

WARNING!!! Please do not go to this restaurant. What their menu has and what they deliver are not the same. I ordered bibimbap and the menu says it comes with beef. I only got egg seaweed and mushrooms and The waitress said to get beef add additional money which is fine but that is not what their menu says that I need to pay extra. I called to inform them - they spoke in Korean back to me pretended like they did not understand and hung up on me. The new management and the new owner of this place has apparently changed. It's "Dake Sushi" on the sign above the store so not sure why the switch on Yelp. This is actually a wonderful spot for Korean food, as the other reviews suggest. I think bc they do have the sushi portion of the restaurant, the menu is pretty sparse and feels like Korean home cooking. I love the pork kimchi jjigae from here. The spicy fish soup was also good, light and fragrant broth with chunks of fish inside. It feels a little bit divey which can throw off a lot of American diners who expect sushi to be fancy. I have had sushi mostly during dinner time and as a course for a big group. The fish was so fresh and good last time I went but of course, that could vary depending on when you go. Their forte is actually in sashimi/hwe which is just the raw fish by itself and not chilled and rested for a bit like sushi fish usually is. The fluke sashimi is so good. Salmon was nice and fatty. Each time I've come every Patron was Korean except me. They all seemed to be enjoying the bowls & platters coming out. On any visit I haven't seen anyone order sushi. Except only this last time, 2 young Kids came in & ordered sushi rolls which they seemed to enjoy. I've had the BiBimBap complete with BonChon or however you spell it. Twice I've ordered the Seafood Pancake which is not on the menu but they are happy to make. Son had the Galbi the one time he came with me. It was delicious. I'll be back. I placed an order for chicken tempura without avocado due to allergies. They put avocados. We tried calling but nobody knew how to speak English. They kept thinking we wanted to place an order. The lady gave the phone to another gentlemen and we tried explaining to them. He says they don't have avocados today and are sold out. The restaurant sits unassumingly in a strip mall and inside, the space on the small side with simple decor. It's called Sushi Dake (actually, the sign says Dake Sushi) but I've never had the sushi. However, the Korean food is legit. I've been to just about every Korean restaurant between Great Neck and Stony Brook and this is definitely my favorite one on Long Island. The haemul pajeon (they'll make it for you even though it's not on the menu) is delicious as is the haemul soondoobu and kimchi jjigae. Even the banchan is tasty. The service is always great. My favorite restaurant for the last six months. The staff is so friendly and helpful, they even explain how to eat the different dishes if you need it. Best miso soup in the area. The combo plate with the tofu soup and short ribs is the most amazing value but the kimchi jjigae is incredible EVERYTIME. The seafood scallion pancake and the japchae with beef are incredible starters. The tea here is always earthy and the perfect beverage with your meal. The hardest part for me, right now, is that I miss going in there, sitting down for lunch, and just enjoying myself immensely. The food absolutely holds up when you bring it home, don't get me wrong, but I miss the experience, and the ladies who serve as the wait staff as so incredibly nice, it's a shame. Their kimchi is off the hook... I crave it on a regular basis. Mostly, I stick with the one-pot meals on the Korean food side. The ladies have been great about explaining things to me, and helping me decide what I'd like to try, and I've eaten a lot of their dishes. The Bulgogi is probably my favorite - the meat is so tender and full of flavor, it's hard to beat. While I've trended mostly towards the Korean food, their sushi is really good too. If I were to compare with others in the area, they are pretty close to Kumo. The Spicy Salmon has good kick to it, the Dynamite Roll is creative and delicious, and I really can still taste the Volcano Roll just thinking about it right now. I feel bad I waited this long to give Dake a review. I was recommended to come here because of their sushi but in fact fell in love with their KFood! I was so happy I could find somewhere local that offered authentic and great tasting food. The place is a bit small but I believe that is part of the charm. I come here often with my partner and really appreciate the service this establishment provides. Never have I felt like I was rushed to finish a meal! The pictures on yelp does not do this place any justice. When you step into the restaurant it's very small with only a few tables and it looks like the place has been around for a while just looking at the old furnitures. But the food tastes so fresh and homemade. It almost reminded me of my moms Korean food. The food is light, not heavily salted, and you'll leave the restaurant not feeling like crap and regretting you ate all that food.
