This bar typically has a great balance of locals/military, young/old and rainbow of color. We have enjoyed karaoke and local bands. The bartenders are friendly. For that experience, 4 stars. Avoid, AT ALL COSTS, open mic comedy night. Although I was impressed by the optimism and patience of the crowd for most of the acts, management allowed blatantly racist jokes and gay bashing, calling my kid a he/she. One dude opened with the f-slur and it went downhill from there. I will NEVER return on a Monday. Our local neighborhood bar.. that i wish i could enjoy more. Reasonable prices, and the guy bartender with dark hair is really chill. 2 pool tables and decently clean bathrooms for a dive bar. Don't get me wrong I love dive bars just not this one. Honestly this bar by far is one of the worst bars I have ever been to! I felt cringed being here. It's very dark and dingy. One guy touched my arm, i mean grabbed and didn't even know me. I had another guy that was trying to talk to me and he became inappropriate. I've been in here with someone yelling/cussing at the top of their lungs for no reason sitting at the bar. The place isn't very clean looks really run down. Karaoke is set up weird even where its staged. Also the bartenders don't do a good job making drinks. I've had 3 different bartenders make the same drink. My friend asked how was it, I straight up said trash. Like I asked for a literal Vodka and cranberry. How do you mess that up? How could it taste so watered down? They have a couple pool tables. On a random night, a couple friends, my boyfriend and I, were looking for somewhere casual to end up for a drink or two. It was very last minute and we were already out and finishing up our previous activity, so when my friend looked up somewhere that was near both of our homes in Clairemont, she saw Peter D's pop up and Google and off we went. My boyfriend and I were very excited upon arrival because we had no idea this bar was in the particular little shopping center that it is and it's literally walking distance to our house, so now we have a neighborhood bar! It's the epitome of a hole in the wall locals place and we were definitely the outsiders when we walked in as everyone seemed to know each other. People were friendly though and said hi as they walked by and it was comfortable enough to chill out with a drink. I'm not sure if there is a jukebox somewhere or if the establishment picks the music, but I enjoyed the mix of popular country and pop hits that came on. There is also a pool table, but we didn't get to play because it never became available. That's the problem with only having one! It's nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done and we will definitely be visiting again for pure convenience! read more

Just love this place. Small, local vibe pub that is super diverse and welcoming. This is a locals type place but everyone can come! Bloody Marys on the weekend are the perfect morning after cocktail, amazing and friendly bartenders and pool tables. It has a lot in a super small footprint that somehow seems way bigger than it is! This isn't the place to go if you expect marble floors and overpriced drinks. This is the place of friendly people, great bartenders and a come as you are type feeling! They have karaoke nights wich are a blast! Love coming here with friends and bringing others when they are visiting from out of town. Love this place. Definitely meets all criteria for a hole-in-the-wall and a dive. Rick is my fave bartender and he gets longevity points bc he's been @ Peter D's for 10+ yrs. Other than that this place kicks a$$ bc it's not stuck up @ all and it has a really diverse group of people that is never the same ppl on any given night. Thank god for not letting this place go under, despite COVID. This place used to be my 2nd fave karaoke spot but my 1st fave used to be Carriage House (they were open every day, all holidays!!) but it's not the same since they moved locations. They have strong drinks @ good prices and a couple pool tables, in case that's your thing. Yelpers please don't go crazy & take over this place cuz it still has its divey charm that prob would go away if a grip of ppl start showing up to MY SPOT. In conclusion, come here if you're a guy between the ages of 28-45. Pls be at least 5"7 in height & long walks on the beach. I wouldn't drink here with my friends. The place is a dive.. But not in the trendy "we found a cool dive bar" kind of way. The bar is made up of spare parts and is dirty and uninviting. The clientele that frequents this bar would look out of place at any normal restaurant including: Outback steak house, Chili's, and Islands. Lets be honest, they look out of place in regular society. However, these types of old dive bars are few and far between. You don't see these anymore with the gentrification of Clairemont. I guess enjoy it while you can, I would be surprised is it was open in 5 years. read more

A great fun neighborhood bar that has been in biz for 45 years , yes that's right 45 YEARS !

I just randomly stumbled upon this with a new friend who just moved into the nearby neighborhood. We were actually just going to go to a liquor store nearby but was closed. So, this random bar with music came out of nowhere for us. We walked in and were impressed, we had no idea. Ha! Nice crowd and friendly bartenders. Lots of tattoos and interesting people there. I loved it. Good energy, and a chill atmosphere. The place is fun and upbeat. I had pool tables and lots of places to sit and listen to music or even do karaoke on or off the mini stage they have. It's very open and there is plenty to look at with the vinyl record players, historical photos, and memorabilia on the walls. Cheers!!! read more

We came here after having Tuesday tacos next door at Los Palmitos. A fun evening overall! There's 2 pool tables that are 75 cents each to play & they're in great condition. (I've been to some dive bars & I swear the felt on the pool tables are stained w/ who knows what!), Galactica arcade game, video poker, & LIVE karaoke! And on Saturday nights- the regulars who partake in karaoke GET DOWN! I drank my first Tanqueray Bloody Mary- and noticed it was off... then I realized I should be ordering doubles. (Yay for Uber!) There are a variety of chips for sale by the register too. Fritos, Lay's Original, Dorito's. The women's restrooms have 2 stalls & it's a tight space inside. I'm only giving this place 3 stars because of Josh, Jazzy and Rick. They deserve 10 stars. But this bar is an unsafe riffraff filled establishment. If you want meth, this is the place to come to! We stopped by this place and there was these super shady skin head tweakers that were trying to lure us to their van. "Oh are those your back backs over there on the other side of my van? They are getting wet." I'm not dumb, I definitely didn't follow him. 20 minutes later, my sister was waiting in the car for us and the same dudes were standing behind her car while a women knocked on the window of the car and tried to open my sisters car door. Why the fuxk were they trying to get into her car while she was inside of it? I love the bartenders here.... except Jodi, she is trash and drunk allll the time when working. After having some drinks and lunch, decided to post up at a neighborhood bar for a bit. Overall the ambience was some what peaceful. There were a group of patrons there whom made me uncomfortable, but I know it wasn't the establishment's fault. Moving on. Drinks are moderately priced. Not brraking the bank or over spending as expected with a local watering hole. The major gripe I had, was that the drinks were watered down. A single Jameson and Ginger ale definitely tasted like it was a drink sitting there, that had been watered down by melted ice, but the thing was it was just freshly poured. The bartender was very friendly though. She was able to carry friendly conversation amongst all patrons and you know she was working hard. Definitely one of the brighter things from the establishment. I don't think I'll be coming back again though. read more

I used to go here all the time when I was living in SD. Originally was nearby to go to one of the few Curry houses at the time. When we walked in the first time, we were a bit unsure. Then we were one of the family! Slick Rick is a hero. I remember once when the strip mall was having the electri...city worked on, so there was no power. Did that stop the place from opening? Hell no. Candles baby! Did this stop Rick and co opening? No chance. Candles baby! This guy fell asleep. In any normal bar, this is a chucking out offence. Not in Peter D's, Rick struck the bell and shouted "We got a sleeper!!". I remember one of the local ladies had a delightful, massive swastika tattooed on her back. "Don't screw here, she got AIDS", the bartender helpfully said. I went back there last year for the first time since 03. "Rick!" I cried, "..remember me?". I needed to give him the first letter of my name, but he remembered! What a place! Also, another night, I ended up driving Slick's car about after we had drank there till closing. Another time a guy and Rick were trading punches over the bar, only to be hugging each other moments later. "All part of the game" said the great man! Cheap beer, cheaper woman, but really nice folk. i echo what others have said about it being better when there is not Karaoke. read more

Drink specials are always legit. The shots are fat. If Peter D's is part of the itinerary for that night it usually turns into a sloppy adventure, lol. They also have a stage for karaoke performances, which is AWESOME! Not going to lie.. I performed there once with my little brother. The regulars and the bartenders were so nice. You have to know what you're getting into before you head over to a place like Peter D's. Is it going to be a place with loud music, a dance floor and the young and attractive of San Diego congregating? Will you be able to order specialty cocktails and a unique Peter-tini? Of course not. It's a dive bar in the truest sense of the word. Full of a weird mix of meth heads, unemployed dudes, 47 year old black out drunk women, 24 year olds there for karaoke, etc. It is located in a depressing strip mall with a Smart and Final and a taco shop next door. It is one big dark room, with a long, squareish bar occupying the entire center of the place. There is a stage used for karaoke and god knows what else, and a couple pool tables. Beer is cheap here, liquor is cheap here, and they sometimes will order a pizza from down the road and sell slices. Beware, the pizza may have been sitting there for a while. Rick, the usual bartender, is a riot. Look for him to not be wearing shoes behind the bar. Consider yourself lucky if he feeds you some of his D-level jokes. Contrary to Paola R's beliefs, he doesn't just dish out shots, but I could see him being in the mood once in a while. To describe a typical Peter D's experience, last trip there were 2 middle aged women completely blotto drunk. There were 3 other people there counting us. One woman fell into the gumball machine and knocked it over. I couldn't tell if her goal was to get plowed or just to get loaded, but it was a sight, and a relatively tame Peter D's experience. I've heard stories of a 28 year old acquaintance who took home a homeless lady that parked her shopping cart out front. It's just a different world, and in my opinion, a dying breed. I'd much rather have this unique experience than go to PB Bar and Grill or somewhere similar like the rest of my age group. One note, the taco shop next door is a fine place to pick up food to bring over to Peter D's. read more

"Hey, are you in the military?" is apparently a popular line the broads use here to pick up guys. Clearly, there are less buzz cuts in the service these days. This establishment has a bizarre layout, where the square bar is in the middle of the room, with the stage right behind the bar. The bar takes up too much space, leaving very little room between the bar and the wall on the far side of the bar. The walk from the 2 pool tables to the restroom involves circumnavigating the entire perimeter of the bar. It's not clear whether the D in "Peter D" stands for dive, dirty, or derelict, but all of those words are apt descriptors. If it weren't for our hero's friend living right across the street, he probably never would have come to this watering hole of last resort. PROS: - There's a liquor store that's open late in the same mall, so if you haven't had your fill yet, there's alternatives. - Free karaoke Thursday to Sunday nights. - Karaoke catalogs indexed both by artist and by song name alphabetically. - The door man is really friendly and he sings karaoke as well. CONS: - Really long wait list for karaoke. - The people here are "too friendly" like they are looking for new baby daddies or people to transmit hepatitis to. read more

I can't comment on prices because I bought the first round and for the life of me can't remember how many drinks that included or how much my tab came to...Oh well, it's probably not that much, right? This place is in a pretty random location, so I imagine they offer decent deals and drink specials. The bartender #WINNING was hilarious! He was very charismatic and really made the night interesting. We were there on a karaoke night, and I had enough liquid courage to bust out "Ballroom Blitz." Even though I suck, I had a great time making a fool of myself. A party bus rolled through when we were there and they brought an interesting cast of characters and I even scored some beads...or pearl necklaces? Can't remember which, maybe both? This was probably the only stop of the night I remember enough about to write an informed review, but it was a stop worth remembering.
