On May 8, 2025 I came in to get a root canal from Peter R Vandersloot. This was my first root canal (hopefully my last *fingers crossed*) and I was in a lot of pain the weeks leading up to my appointment. The tooth needing the root canal was the second to last on the bottom right side (I forget the tooth number) but it had gotten to the point that I was taking Moltrin 3-4 times a day just to keep the pain manageable. If I didn't take meds before bed, I was sure to be awakened with throbbing pain, enough to have you questioning the point of eating candy ever again! Anyways, long story short, I came in to this office and the staff was very warm and kind to me. Peter was very helpful in educating me about the procedure and what I could expect throughout it afterwards. He's really a magician in the sense that he debunked all my pre root canal fears around the pain and how it would be the most excruciating experience I'd ever go through. The only pain I felt throughout the procedure was when I received the needle injection for numbing the area and nerve. Other than that, I felt no pain and by the time he was finished, I was shocked that it was all over. It took no more than 1 hour start to finish. He's really someone I wish I could go to for any dental issue because his conversation is awesome and he's so well informed. A true professional in every sense of the word and his team of professionals that assist in the procedure were amazing as well. This place is like a small private practice, not like going to a giant dentist location with a bunch of chairs and rotating dentist. They are exceptional in their ability to resolve root canals and in the process educate clients so they are more aware of the business of dental work. I left there understanding who I should get insurance with, what types of dentist I should get work done with as well as how to sift through yelp reviews to identify honest reviews over fabricated ones. No one is ever excited to see the root canal doc! But Dr Vandersloot, Dr Ma and all the wonderful staff are fantastic. I'm a repeat patient...I've had 2 root canals done here, one by Dr Ma and one by Dr Vandersloot. Both times I was very pleased with the experience and result (no more pain). Both docs explain everything to you as they are going along and they prioritize local anesthetic to make sure you're as comfortable as possible. Their assistant is also very kind and helpful throughout the procedure. And Jay at the front desk was thorough in explaining the cost beforehand. You always hear people say "I would rather get a root canal then get/do/see..blah blah blah" Root Canal's don't get good press much and we have been lead to believe that they are worth than an tax audit in hell. I wasn't really thrilled to get the news that I needed a Root Canal. I tried to put it out of mind but the day of the event I was faced with the fear of being subject to torture. I was easy to say not at all thrilled. The staff and Dr Vandersloot were nothing but professional, kind, genial and great. I thought I would be in the chair for hours, but they got me in and out , no pain at all in less than an hour. I'm gobsmacked at how very "NOT" traumatic this was. In fact, this was less painful and hard to sit through than some of the cavities I've had. It was remarkably like having a cavity filled. Dr Pete is AMAZING! Had my first root canal completed there last week. I was nervous, but the office put me at ease immediately. The root canal was fast and really easy! When I read reviews that say it's cheaper at a clinic, well yeah you get what you pay for. This is a specialty office, not a clinic style service. In my experience with my health, it's better to leave difficult procedures to a specialist. They invest in the best equipment to make the root canal faster, more efficient, and more comfortable for the patient. A clinic would NEVER do that. I've been meaning to make an update on my experience. Dr. Vandersloot wrote to me via Facebook and confirmed he had just written me my check and it was basically taking so long due to him getting busy, etc. I finally received my check for the overpayment a few days later in the mail. Again, want to reiterate that my actual dental experience and everything leading up to it was really great. Root canals definitely get a bad rep, but Dr. Vandersloot and his staff do everything to make it as pleasant of an experience as they can. Best experience Ive had getting any type of dental work done. Every dentist I have been to has had issues numbing me for simple fillings. This was my first root canal and I didn't feel a thing. 6 hours later and the anesthetic has just about completely worn off and the only sore spot is the injection site. I made an appointment for my daughter, new job, new area for us. Called in, they were so nice, helpful and accommodating. She fit us in the same week. Beautiful office, good location. Dr Vandersloot did the evaluation and they fit us in a half an hour later to have the root canal done. My 11 year old daughter was super nervous but they assured her and she didn't feel a thing! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This was such a wonderful place to go to. I was referred to Dr. Vandersloot for a root canal. Needless to say, I was terrified. BUT, Dr. Vandersloot was awesome . He is so kind, gentle, and very clear about what's going to happen and so on. His assistant was suuuuper nice too and helped me relax. Everyone in the office was just so nice. They each took about an hour and a half, but the reason this place gets five stars is because after my locals wore off BOTH times I had zero pain. It was like nothing ever happened. Love this guy. I had to have an emergency root canal. They staff was wonderful. Of course I had pain over the weekend, but they were able to get me in first thing on Monday morning. The office was very clean and professional. Dr. Vandersloot did a wonderful job and explained to me what he was doing and why and showed me the x-rays. Let me begin by saying that I am probably the worst dental patient. Very high anxiety around getting any dental work done. I was very impressed at the professionalism of Dr. Vandersloot. (Dr. V) I would have given five star rating for the clinical staff, but the experience with the receptionist was average. When I arrived she was on a phone call. As a new client, my expectation is that she put the person on hold for a couple of seconds to welcome me to the office and help me feel comfortable, then go back to the phone call. She dealt with the phone call for about five minutes before acknowledging me. That was the worst part of the experience, so not too bad overall. Dr. V did an exceptional job introducing himself, explaining in detail what he would be doing, and provided me time frames around how long each step would take. He also took time to listen to my concerns and questions. After discovering my anxiety, he told me about the gas (YES!) Once he began, Dr. V ran me through a variety of diagnostic tests to determine the issue. Once done, he provided me all available options and consequences of each. In my case a root canal was necessary. I have never had such a great experience with a dental professional. I felt no pain at all, and only minimal discomfort in the days that followed. (I did not take any pain meds after the first day.) Dr. V's dental assistant was exceptional as well. She predicted what he needed and worked effectively with the doctor. She had an excellent "bed side" manner. I had not issues with billing and found the quality of workmanship exceptional. I would highly recommend Dr. Vandersloot. read more

The procedure isn't the issue it's the way they bill. When a dentist refers you for a root canal, you're already paid an evaluation fee from that professional that you need a root canal. My husband was billed $150 for Dr Vandersloot to tap his tooth a few times. That alone is excessive to begin with, but when I called to find out why our copayment was $400 when it should have been about $260, they couldn't be bothered to return my call. I had to call Delta and find out that the evaluation wasn't covered because he's met his limit of 2 for the year. When a doctor or dentist have staff that thinks it's ok to ignore their patients, time to go elsewhere. Back to Bay Area from now on. We've both had our share of root canals and neither of us was ever billed an evaluation fee separately. read more

They do thorough check ups with your teeth, they due diligently do their job with care and ease. Preparation work for a crown had to be done twice because he drilled too far down. Not only that , but my primary insurance was billed and paid my secondary insurance was billed but denied the claim sooooo there was a remainder balance. Well instead of me getting an itemized bill in the mail showing a balance due I get a deduction of almost thirty bucks from my bank account. The billing lady went ahead and used my debit card they had on file for a previous balance and charged the current balance to it WITHOUT my authorization!!! WHO DOES THAT??!!! Maybe I wanted to pay you five bucks or ten bucks or even the chance to view what I was paying for!!! NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!! read more

I called their office on Monday stating that I was referred by Dr. Menon for a root canal and if they could call me back ASAP because I had a horrible toothache from it. They did not call me back until Friday!!!!! I called everyday in between leaving the same message!! I think their office is only open half day but how can you leave for the day without calling patients back??? I had to get a root canal redone that I had when I was little. At first my regular dentist sent me to a specialist in manteca. That was a horrible experience. I was so excited to finally get my tooth out that was bothering me for a week. (2 tubes of oralgel, antibiotics, and strong pain medicine) after I paid the 100 dollars for her to look at it, she told me she can't because she's going on vacation. So after feeling upset i was nervous they wouldn't be able to get me in for a while. I spoke to the receptionist who was helpful and friendly. She got me in that day at 2.
