Total rip-off and dishonest! I searched online for a good auto shop and read reviews about Pete's Auto Care. I read how C.J. is honest and good and affordable... Yeah right, listen to this... I called last week and C.J. answered the phone. I told him that I needed a clock spring for my 2001 Dodge Dakota because my horn hasn't worked for years. Other mechanics have checked the fuses, relays, and everyone diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. I kept being quoted at $714, which includes the part and labor, but I didn't have the money until now. Well C.J. went to his computer, looked up my vehicle, and basically said the same thing- that the job will be $710. Fine. I called back the next day to schedule an appt. so C.J. went to his computer again to order the part but then he asked me if my truck had a heated steering wheel. I said no. Then he said Oh wow, the part is more money without it, go figure. And then he said that the part is now $220 more, making the grand total over $900.... C.J., the 2001 Dodge Dakota didn't have the option of a heated steering wheel, and being that I ordered my truck straight from the manufacturer 23 years ago and told you that I kept it as close to the original as possible, you knew that my vehicle didn't have a heated steering wheel in the first place. I just moved here to Albuquerque. My friend recommended this auto shop and said that they'd give me a good deal on the repairs that I needed so I brought my car into the shop. A few days went by and I was kept up to date on the repairs. But when I went to pick up my car, the price was double than what they quoted me. They knew that they had already done the work so I would have no choice but to pay the bill to get my car back. I don't recommend this auto shop. read more

I recently moved to Albuquerque, and I had my 1998 Saturn shipped on a car carrier from the East Coast. I had Pete's check everything over to make sure no repairs were needed and the car was ready for winter. They started and finished on schedule and gave me a run-down on what they found. No immediate repairs or maintenance were needed, but they gave me a heads-up on a few things that I need to keep an eye on. Since they didn't have to do anything besides the inspection, they didn't even charge me for their time! Also, they gave me a thorough explanation of what they checked and what they found (unlike some other places I've been where they assume that a little old lady couldn't possibly understand car stuff). I will definitely be back next time I need maintenance or repairs. read more

Have used them for over 11 years and had nothing but positive experience. Even just yesterday, needed and oil change for one of our 3 cars and ask them to check it over because my daughter is taking the car to Kansas today. They advised me of what will be needed down the road, but I know the car will be good for travel. About 9 years ago my son bought a lemon and it died in the middle of the Big-I, we had it towed to Pete's, he diagnosed the problem and didn't charge us. Car needed to be scrapped, but that was kind. We have taken foreign and domestic- over the years, 7 different makes and models, never a problem. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, but we have never experienced any problems. read more

They have always been very courteous, clearly very knowledgeable, very helpful, and more then once they've pointed out that the repair we thought was needed was in fact not necessary and something much simpler and less costly was all that was needed. I'm so tired of cringing every time my car makes a new noise or a light flashes on my dashboard. It seems like my vehicles have a personal vendetta against me. I decided to give another repair shop the opportunity to drain my bank account further. Imagine my surprise when I took my car to Pete's Auto Care. One of their mechanics came out, examined & listened to the engine, brought out a stethoscope and listened again to the whining complaints of my car. He told me, in a friendly but professional manner, what needed to be done to remedy the problem and set up an appointment for the next morning. Imagine my surprise when everything was fixed - FIXED - for cheaper than their estimate. No more smoking, whining, flashing. It was fixed. I used to use this shop often. Lately the staff has been unpleasant and you can tell that they now have so much business they don't need to treat each customer as good as they once did. I'm saying this because two times I called ahead and brought my car here and the repair hadn't even begun by the time it was supposed to be completed (without updating me that they were too busy or their schedule changed). I went years in this town trying to find some sanity in the auto repair world, but one stop at Pete's and I was a believer. I used to check and doublecheck everything, but Pete's group always came through with better prices, guarantees, service work, recommendations, you name it. After 4 years and 5 or 6 autos that they have cared for top to bottom, I have never seen a negative outcome, and don't even bother to ask for estimates anymore, because even when they estimate a price, they more often than not charge less than they said they would. Two years ago, on a trip out-of-state, I had a fuel pump failure on the interstate. (the vehicle was 18 years old so it takes some care.) Had to get towed to the closest spot and get it repaired for twice what anyone not taking advantage of me would have charged... When I got back home, the next time I took it in for an oil change I mentioned the new fuel pump to Pete. When I went in to pick it up after the servicing, Pete says, "Just so you know, one of my guys noticed a gasoline smell, so he dropped the fuel tank and drained it to check the pump installation and found a clamp on a hose loose, then took care of it because he didn't want you in an un-safe situation. Also, sorry to tell you that the fuel pump that was installed probably won't last more than a year because it isn't a reliable brand. " (By the way...It didn't even last a year.) So I get the bill for that visit and he hadn't charged me for anything but the oil change because he said they were just doing things the way they should be done. I could not talk him into letting me pay for it. And that's not the only time his guys have done that. Seems like they are ALWAYS going the extra mile. Find another mechanic who does that. Yes, as "angry" Jim S. stated in his review, Pete's prices are truly more than fair. I feel sorry for Jim S. missing out on this sort of business' work. Not sure what he thinks he saw (since he's a little slim on details), but I know if he gave them another shot, they are the kind of men who would not even hold a nasty review against him. read more

My father in-law has been going to these guys for years. When I was looking to purchase a used car, they did an inspection on every vehicle I showed up with. They kept me from getting ripped off and from purchasing a lemon. These guys are wonderful. read more

These guys are rip off artists, don't ever have your car checked out here. In order to get work they either lie or don't know what they are looking at... In addition, they damage your car while it's in their shop for inspection. They do this because they only charge $35 dollars for an hour + inspection and the only way they can get their money is by getting more work. So they screw up the car while it's in their shop so you would then pay their standard rates to get the car fixed. BEWARE!!!! read more
