Ran over a bag of plastic on the freeway and AAA towed me to this shop since I'm not familiar with the area and it was the closest one. The plastic had damaged a seal and my truck was leaking transmission fluid. Pete's was booked for the day (it was already like 2:45pm) but he took my truck anyways. I didn't have a phone charger with me, the office lady offered hers. They shuttled me to walmart and back to the shop. It was done by 4:15 and they didn't overcharge at all. Well, I bought a car from this shop.. It's been a decent enough car. No issues for 6months. Then the engine light came on. (P0330 knock sensor, with IMMOBILIZER & C1724, C1725,C1725,C1726 wheel dampeners) I didn't suspect the knock sensors, due to the sudden nature of the codes AND the perfectly harmonious running motor while at idle.. among other things. Anyway, I had it towed over due the car being familiar to him.. even previously owned by a relative of his.. if I'm not mistaken. So... while it was in his possession, he managed to tear one of my intake boots, (and duct taped the HELL out of it. (But, "NO CHARGE" on the invoice for the tape job ...I wonder why?) Also, come to find out he also snapped the hose connection on my Vacuum switching solenoid, and on my surge tank for the EGR system. (likely) when I refused the $2,000 repair.. He knew he had to cover it up somehow, and "wrote it off" on the report as "more error codes due to the P0330 code being on for a long period of time." And even felt the need to stipulate (for no reason, in particular) that the p.s.i. Was at perfect reading when tested. YOU KNOW THAT WAS BULLSHIT PETE! Because you busted the line trying to pull it off. Yes it was brittle.. anyone could have done it.. but just own your s%#+, man. Thanks for NOT charging me for "that" part of it. (Conveniently). It's almost as is your conscience DID feel something? ..if only briefly... I know better than to argue with a liar. I learned the difference between a MECHANIC and a TECHNICIAN. a long time ago. They reveal themselves QUICKLY when you have your own; professional diagnostics tool & access to alldata. ALL SAID AND DONE.. I paid the $500 he wanted for basically confirming my own diagnosis, and for his labor to break more things on my car. As I pulled away from the shop I had WORSE engine power issues, and (2) more dash lights. upon removing my intake system, i immediately found my broken surge tank. And VSS lines. Not only that. this crook didn't even apply my full AAA discount. He gave me 6.00 off of a $500 bill. (roughly 1%) People. Believe me when I say.. this shop has NO MORAL COMPASS. Absolutely won't hesitate to run up your bill And has ZERO accountability for their mistakes. Little does he know, I was once a certified technician. And know very well.. EXACTLY what he did. His report tells SO much more than he intended. the vehicle the he, himself, sold me. (for blue book value). Turned out to be an un-insurable, TOTALED OUT, and completely worthless. Although, I'll admit, it's a decent ride if you're okay with an uninsurable Lexus That no one will insure beyond bottom dollar liability coverage. he definitely sold me up on the price. Overpaid by at least $1000. So.. I didn't want to spend more than $500 at a shop (especially if I can't insure it for that amount) But he seemingly planned to tear it down on the assumption I WOULD PAY.. until I called and stopped him.. he was likely was already prepping to charge me for the pieces he broke too... but then decided to just fake it, and slap it back together. Even Duct taped my intake boot like a true mechanic. and charged me for this shitty service. WELL DONE PETE, you have shown your cards. I'm calling you out on your bulls$&% service. You can keep my money. i Truly hope it lives on your conscience, too. You know what you did. That's why your quote was upwards of $2k! You knew I'd have to get those (2) parts.. plus my sensors.. etc. Never again! I will get my car back to top condition just fine. all by myself. I apologize for thinking you might have been a stand up guy. And don't worry about those extra codes either! I can clear those as well, sir! Enjoy that hard earned money! I hope you understand that you did that to a wildfire victim, and father of 3 Young children.. who happens to be currently on unemployment with mounting hospital bills for his 6yr daughters cancer treatment. not to worry though, our fearless liar and thief.... I must be the rare Sweedish owner with no complaints about my car, until I moved to the desert. Bringing a "snow-mobile" to the desert is asking for trouble. I have never needed a repair until I moved here, so I am glad I found this shop. I was at Kofi and another snow-mobile driver who also avoids going to the local GM dealer in Cat City, turned me on to this place when he overheard me bitching about Jessup. Ric, the manager at Pete's, is like an Eagle-Scouts of Auto mechanics from my perspective. Knowledgeable, trustworthy, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, affordable and clean. However, Pete Jr ( his dad started the shop years ago) still needs to earn his badges in technical areas and customer satisfaction, so I encourage you to deal with Ric and say you're happy to wait a few minutes until Ric is available. After you drop off your car, you can get a ride and pick up when your car is ready. The Auto Club (AAA) seems to like them also - lots of awards. They have certification to do the same servicing as the dealership, if the dealerships actually did anything, so no problem with your warranty requirements. When I called I had explained that Firestone's diagnostic said the starter and alternator were good but we were having trouble starting the vehicle. I received a voicemail stating it was the starter and it would be 403.00 dollars. When I called back and spoke to Pete, I stated that other starters I've replaced over my 35 years driving were in the 200.00 range. He stated that it was 218.00 but with the diagnostic charge and labor it was 403.00. I replied other repair shops do not charge the diagnostic when the work gets done and the total cost for other starters I've purchased were in the 200.00 not 400.00 dollar range. Pete stated the diagnostic should have been over 100.00 dollars. Feeling trapped and wanting the car restored I gave him my card number over the phone. After he charged my card Pete stated that I will also need a cylinder assembly replacement. I said wait a minute that is what the problem is then. He replied it needed the starter. After picking up the vehicle, while driving home the thermostat light went on and the car started over-heating. It never had this problem, and looking under the hood the coolant reserve was completely empty. Does a repair shop in good consciousness charge the customer first and then tell them they need another part which was the real problem? Furthermore I had to bring the vehicle back to Firestone to get the coolant serviced adding more expense. I am requesting a full refund. Was sent to Pete's from Davies. AAA recommended. Gave Pete the Computer Test from Davies. Pete charged me $231.80 for a new Computer Test, Replaced Fuel Tank Vent Value $57.95+$85.77 for part. $28.98 for Service, Oil, Tube inspection+ $58. parts. Asked if he could put $20 worth of gas in the car. I said yes. He charge me $28 for 4-5 gal. of gas. $11.66 for a gal. of antifreeze. $3.74 window fluid. $9.70 for a drain plug that cost at most $6.61 with gasket. $115.90 Complete Monitors. What ever that is? To boot he wrecked my car ripping off the drivers door. Weeks in the repair shop and came back not done completely. What a nightmare! Pete did compensate me $200 for my "inconvenience". All this cost me $597.27 and he returned the car to me with an Antifreeze leak and the Hydric's that the hood up no longer operates and these things happened on his watch not mine. The dash board lights are still on, after the so called oil change my dash board shows 80% life left for the oil. What happened to at least 99%? And the original problem remains. The "Check Fuel Cap" is still on. I give Pete an -99% but his wife is nice. read more

The local Ford dealer said all our cooling system hoses for our F-150 Supercrew were getting brittle and needed to be replaced. They quoted $650. So I called Pete's and they gave me a price that was almost $100 lower. Pete's also found that apparently one of the hoses had been replaced, so they didn't do that one. I went to a shop in Palm Springs that also sells tires and my car was lurching a lot. This place was the only one that could take me as others were too busy that day. I am sorry I went as I have a Mitsubishi and it uses OEM parts. I told that to the mgr at this place in Palm Springs and he poohed that--and what he put in for a fan belt was wrong. No detailed estimate and hit with a big bill although it didn't need all he threw in. Went online and found Mitsubishi accerdited shop, as the fan belt was really squealing, callled Pete's and went there. Big difference. Changed the fan belt asap and showed me why the non OEM was wrong for the car. I will use them now as he (Ric) was thorough and competent. He was lower in price. read more

I swung by last minute with my car; I was going on a long trip that day and my engine was making a weird sound. I got there at 1:15 and Pete came out right away, took a long and thorough look at my engine, and told me I could make it safely back to the bay area. I give this place 1 star, because I have to, they made up a false check report on my car just to try and charge me more for something that wasn't wrong, and then they tried to buy the car off me, because they claimed it to be a big issue. I then paid them for the check report and took the car (with parts they didn't put back together) to a different mechanic near buy "Sergio's automotive", where they worked off the info I took them from Pete's (liars) after Sergio's mechanics observed the car they let me know the main issue for Pete was not even a problem, it was a simple hoes misconnected. I was on the I 10 heading out of town on a Sunday evening. When I noticed the check engine light came on I got off the freeway and called AAA. I was recomended to Pete's Automotive wich was about a mile away. I followed the driver to the shop, which was closed. I left the keys to my car in the mailbox and called for my ride. I called the shop at the opening time and spoke to Pete. Since the show was busy on a Monday morning, they started checking on my car a couple of hours later. After a couple of hours of diagnostic testing Pete called me with the news. It turned out to be an issue with the crank shaft sensor that was causing the sensors to react. Had the part in stock. Besides installing the new crankshaft sensor, they even checked the tires and fluids. When I came to pick up my car, Pete explained the service and even showed me the crank shaft sensor, his guys replaced. It came out to fair price. I was able to get to Orange County with no problems on my vehicle. Pete and his staff did an excellent job with my vehicle. They provide excellent customer service and I plan to take my car back for any service and repairs in the future. read more

I also received a courtesy car ride to/from work a few towns over from the very sweet Jesse. I had them give me a "second opinion" on a bunch of items that Subaru told me I HAD to do right away, all totally over $4,000. Not only did they tell me some items that did NOT need to be done, but they were honest to tell me when the services really needed to happen, which was extremely helpful. The items that I do need to take care of (in the near future, not now) only totaled $1,350! Quite a difference from the $4,000 quote and dire situation that Subaru said I was in. Wayne went over every single item on the Receipt with me in detail, with an overall happy and helpful demeanor. I am super happy with Pete's Automotive overall and will for sure be doing these repairs with them and all other scheduled maintenance and issues in the future. My bf and I drove out to La Quinta from LA last weekend and when we arrived my breaks starting making a sound like there was metal hitting metal. I was very worried about driving back to LA with my car in that condition so we looked online to find an automotive shop first thing Saturday morning. After a long trip in my travel trailer I noticed my rear tire on the rear axle was out of alignment. I called Pete and he was willing to check it out right away. Unfortunately for my expectations, but fortunately in the end thanks to Pete and his staff, my problem was much worse than a simple alignment. My suspension had separated on one side as the bracket holding the springs had broken off. In addition, Pete found several other cracks in thr aluminum frame that would eventually have caused major problems, if not a possible disaster. Pete helped me deal with my insurance company while putting up with my disabled trailer sitting on blocks in his workspace. Rather than doing the minimum just to get the frame repaired, and my trailer out of there, he took the professional approach and did extra welding to give proper support to the frame and strengthen the area over the cracks. Now my wife, who had declared she would never set foot in that trailer again, is happily considering further journeys on the road. Thanks to Pete and his entire crew for a great professional job at a reasonable cost given the time and extent of damage. We highly recommend him for RV repair. read more

Several trips to Pete's in the last two years. Worried about them the last couple of times. Here is my experience last week: took car in for oil change. Asked for help finding a noise that was driving me nuts. They charged me $68 to find the noise and told me it was the front hub making the sound. It would be $500 to fix it. Also said it needed rear brakes for another $500 so I scheduled it for this week. They also said on the bill that they recommended a new serpentine belt. The next morning when I started the car low and behold the belt was making a awful noise. Can't prove anything but aren't you thinking the same thing I am? Had the brakes fixed somewhere else and they were bad. Had the front hub fixed somewhere else and they said they didn't see anything wrong with the old one and the noise is still there. Don't think I will ever give this place another chance! read more
