This is the definition of home cooked comfort food. We ate here 30 years ago and then moved from Dallas. We are moving back and made this a priority stop. In fact, we drove 18 miles to eat here with a ton of closer restaurants to choose from. Our waitress has worked at Pete's for 33 years and still serving well. This is the kind of place that Yelp was made for. I love places like this, little hole in the walls but customer service is great, food is great, and people know each other. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, it was packed but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The coffee was good and everything we done well. I've been going to Pete's Cafe for almost 40 years. I raised thee sons, and all wanted something different for breakfast. Pete's was the perfect answer and a way to get them to go to school. LOL When my sons come from California to visit, our first stop is Pete's. In July, my grandson came to visit, and I took him there to eat. He wanted to taste everything on the menu. My partner and I visited at 6am on a Sunday morning. We ordered pancakes, biscuits, bacon, eggs, grits, and hash browns. Our waiter was super attentive and had our order out very quickly. Everything tasted 100% homemade! The portion sizes were great and the quality of food was superb. Packed with flavor! . So it's the weekend and I like to go out for breakfast or dinner. We randomly picked this place to give it a try. It's looks small from the outside and it gets ja.med packed quickly and for good reason. I've heard and read that people complain about the wait time, but luckily for us we got in at a good time as we sat down quickly. By the time we sat down, the line was already forming, that's how popular this place is. My wife had the 2 egg breakfast and I had Pete's Special which gives a choice of pancakes or french toast, bacon, sausage or ham and eggs plus hash browns or grits. The food came quick and made exactly as ordered. The hash browns are country potatoes with onion bits cooked together with a very nice seasoning. The French toast was soft and delicious as well as our coffee. They came around every so often asking to fill out cups so they are constantly on top servicing you. Our server, Beatrice was marvelous and fast and didn't miss a beat along with the other staff. If you are in this area, this place is worth the wait for breakfast, and they also serve lunch too! I've had a egg over medium there and it was cooked really well - I've been to MANY breakfast places where this was not the case. Service here is always pretty friendly. Cons: I've only had lunch here once, most recently. I had a hot turkey sandwich and I was a bit disappointed compared to their breakfast. The turkey was dry, and the potatoes were lumpy. The best diner in town. They have been around for a very long time. This is our go to diner in Addison/Carrollton area. The food is always prepared fresh. My husband and I usually get the French toast Pete's special and it's plenty of food for two people usually. The service staff are all pretty attentive. Pete's is always busy when driving by, but after eating here a couple of times, I have found all dishes to be very bland and in need of some serious salt. Got some typical breakfast fare with the usual meats, eggs and French toast. Along with that was also a Spanish omelette topped with picante sauce, which was surprisingly flavorless as well. The only food item really enjoyed were the biscuits. Regardless of the blandness, and how busy it was both times visited, they were able to sit us as soon as we walked in and service was excellent. This is really closer to a 5 star review but unfortunately I got the only unfriendly waitress in the place who greeted my smile and good morning with a scowl. This is breakfast the old fashioned way. Crisp large portion of bacon. Delicious. Eggs were good but not as good as PJs in Irving. Hashbrowns are more like homefries with onions. A year later and this no-frills restaurant is still serving up a simple yet stellar breakfast and solid sweet tea. No photos this time because I forgot, lol.
