This place is really nostalgic for me. Between this and Ed's fish n chips in Avondale it was a stable in my high school diet! The oil they use is really good and gives the food a unique flavor. It's inexpensive fast and salty goodness. My search for great fish and chips continues with a stop and this surprisingly good place. Disclaimer: I'm from Southern California. We have there some incredible fish and chips owing to the fresh fish that's available in places like Dana Point, Newport Beach, Santa Monica, San Diego, etc. so I'm looking for something that's at least close. One weird thing: so far, every fish and chips place I've tried in Arizona (and I've tried a lot) only serve the square fish patty. I do t get it. Fish patties are made by a machine from cod that's processed and formed. MY version of fish and chips is a hunk of fresh cod filet, battered fresh and then deep fried. But apparently Arizona has never gotten the memo. So here we are with the square patty. Sigh. Ok. As that version goes, this is the best we've found. The patty is particularly fresh. Probably because this place has been in business for some 50 years and they serve a lot of fish. It's super fresh. Also, shout out to the owners because they keep their frying oil fresh. The result is a golden patty that's just lightly crisp and perfectly cooked inside. No greasiness and no oil taste. It's just perfect. It comes with a tasty, tomato-y red sauce with a tiny kick. I ordered mine with tartar sauce and theirs is excellent and is made in-house. It's really good. Another oddity: they don't carry or serve ketchup. To me that's strange because you need it for the "chips" (French fries). So bring your own or go the traditional, no-ketchup route. So really excellent and the best of the square-patty version. I'd come back for sure. Oh, it's cash-only here and always has been so bring cash or go to the ATM next to the order window (and pay a fee). I can't be the only one who remembers the Super Special had 8 BIG pieces of chicken (on its own plate) and then a SECOND plate just for the fries. Now, the chicken got WAY smaller, the fries got soggy and even with the 2 sauces, it all fits one one plate with room to spare. I know Pete's is like an institution here and all but seriously?!? Y'all know these are just frozen fish patties? They're not even trying to pretend these are 'fresh'. I went and got an order of the 4 piece fish & chips and shrimp & chips. First the way they fold to seal the bag, just makes the fries soggy so there's that. Secondly, the "shrimp" were horrible! The breading wasn't even good and there's just shrimp pieces, not even whole shrimp in there. Terrible! The fish are just square pattie's that you can buy out of the frozen freezer section at Walmart. BUUUTTT I will say, the sauce saved the fish. Damn, that sauce is really good! The sauce is prolly what makes this even edible to begin with! I went through the drive thru and had a few cars ahead of me. It went fairly quickly. Being my first time, when I was handed the bag, I asked to make sure there was two meals in there cause I wasn't sure how it was packaged inside. Girl was a bit rude about it, sorry for just making sure I had what I ordered! Overall, terrible terrible "fish". Soggy unseasoned fries. I can't see any reason why I would come back. I love this location! They have plenty of seating compared to other locations and their bathrooms are actually open to the public and they're clean as well! There's also plenty of parking in their lot and in the area. Now to the food! Their food tastes just like their other locations and it's good! Our kids love their corn dogs and we're big fans of their chicken tenders and fish. Their sauce is also really good. My husband really likes their horchatas and we have one of their refillable cups so it's makes it cheaper to get drinks. The staff is super friendly and quick to make their orders. Drive thru could take some time but they definitely move faster then their other locations. Random but from time you may catch a glimpse of the cat that hangs around and my kids love seeing it! I go to Pete's at least once a month. I always order the #2 Seafood combo while the the girlfriend orders the 10 piece shrimp and chips. I have always gone through the drive thru so I cannot review the eating area or restrooms if they have the. There is an ATM onsite for those that don't remember that Pete's only takes cash. The drive thru is horrid when it's busy. It can back up down Van Buren St. Best to go around and park in the back if you planning to eat there. The only reason why Pete's does not get a 5* is the place will at times mess up on orders. Its slight, but half the time they forget something. Also to know is that you must order tartar sauce on the side as no meals come with it included. read more

This location does not serve lettuce or tomato. So when I asked for a monsterburger deluxe w/ cheese. The guy taking my order was like...uhh what's deluxe? So I told him that at the Indian School location, they have the deluxe option with lettuce and tomato. He then told me that they do not serve tomato or lettuce. Get on the lettuce tomato bandwagon Tolleson Pete's!! This location is crazy busy on Saturdays nights (probably on Fridays too, but I went with my mom on a Saturday night). Highly suggest not parking on the west side of the building and the line of cars in the drive-thru can stretch all the way to the street...and you may have to wait for a few minutes to back out of your parking spot. This place is truly a common component in your diet if you grew up in the vicinity of a Pete's Fish n' Chips. I've always ordered the fish n' chips, recently adding shrimp to the mix. The fish is in a rectangular shape and the breading is always a nice golden color. Pete's isn't doing anything fancy here and yet it has remained to be a local favorite since 1947! L-O-V-E the Pete's sauce (its pato sauce and ketchup.) and it's a great spicy ketchup kinda deal. Way better than any cocktail sauce. The fish and fries have a good amount of salt on them and I think that's all they use for seasoning. It's simple and good. The fish and shrimp can be a bit greasy, but it is to be expected when you are eating fried food. But I don't think it is nowhere near as greasy as its competitor Long John Silver. Way back I know I've had the burritos and monster burgers, but given the name of a place you might wanna guess what is best to stick with. I'll take Pete's over any other fish n' chip place! It is not by any means gourmet but they don't claim to be. they are good just the way they are! I love moster burgers, and the 4x5 fried squared pieces of fish from heaven. I go there frequently, great service, great portions, great seafood. I prefer this place over places like sit down places Ada's Fish n Chips because of the locations, food, staff and consistency of food and service.
