I'm losing fate in this supermarket. A convenience store becoming not so convenient anymore! I'm careful always and inspect the expiration dates in everything possible. But the bad customer experience I went through today was disgraceful. I purchased a cheesecake on July 7 that had an expiration date of exactly one month - it was marked 6/17/2020 to 7/17/2020, so I thought that it was still good to take, so I did. Around July 10th, three days after the purchase this item started turning green, with mold spots etc. I called the store and they sounded happy to return my money back. At the store it was a different story. The lovely supervisor Darlene even question me why "I didn't eat it fast", and to top it off, made a very ignorant reference - saying something like "was this all just for you or more people!?" I was like is she really asking me this??? She hesitated to return my money back at some point, and so I started getting angry. At the end she provided me with a credit, no cash, only a credit to be used at the store. Better than nothing but it still SO WRONG! read more

It's the closest grocery store to me so I only go as a last resort but NEVER again. The first time I came home with MOLDED ricotta cheese. It is DISGUSTING and a HEALTH VIOLATION to sell expired or molded foods!!! Why don't they do regular inventory and check on their labels??? GROSS. Neighborhood shopping. I mean, at one time it was 100 % Polish run but of course the years change spots as fast as you can blink. Although you can still find Polish foods and spices, the area has completely changed and now it is more Latin flavor. You can get anything here from Vegetables to Fruit Tortes made to order. The place is sometimes a bit tight and due to having an array of meats, it can get downright crazy, but you will never leave empty handed, there is too much in this small grocery store. read more

I cannot even begin to describe how disappointed I am with this super market. I have been shopping here for 13 years and have at this point spent thousands of dollars in groceries just so I can ask the cashier if she can have someone please cut a sugar cane in three pieces, then she proceeds to ask the manager (Ortensia) if she can have someone cut it for me. The manager then tells me" come on" I already have one of my employees cutting a lettuce for someone which caught me off guard because that had nothing to do with my request. She could have simply said I cannot do this at this moment but her manner and choice of words were what left me disgusted, upset and honestly with zero wishes to ever return to shop here again. read more

The store has a beautiful outdoor farmers market display and looks very modern from the outside but once you go in its jammed packed. Why do business owners feel like they need to stuff their stores and ruin its appearance. I hate going there, you cant even walk around without bumping carts with anyone. I have a special place in my heart for markets that sell fresh produce...I suppose it's because I am visiting Chicago from California. We stopped in here tonight to rid ourselves of the awfulness of the dinner we had consumed this evening. We purchased a pre-cut fruit salad, some fresh tamales, a quart of milk and some water. Our chicken tamales were very good...but, the stand out is the melon in my salad! Oh wow, very fresh and very tasty. Neatly arranged, plentiful market. read more

This grocery store never disappoints me. I shop here when I don't feel like going to your big chain super markets. I always find what I need and their produce, meat, and deli selections are fresh. They always have great sales on their deli meats and produce. They have a great selection of Latin and Polish food items. Their staff is nice and friendly. The only thing that bugs me a bit is that the store is a bit small but it's incredibly clean. read more

I give this place 4 stars. The place has fresh produce and the store is kept clean. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, was because I was looking for dry basil and then changed my mind to try and find fresh basil. I happen to leave my cart unattended, and by the time I came back to where I had left it, it was gone with all that was in it. I was heated! But that was my fault. This is now a Pete's. Very affordable and fresh produce. Not much of an organic selection (don't buy it for myself, but to make baby food). You can usually find organic apples and bananas, but organic bananas sell out very quickly and I end up having to make a second trip to Jewel for them. Otherwise, can't complain. Can usually find exotic fruits/veg like dragonfruit, lychee, nopales, passionfruit, fresh figs. Great selection overall. read more

I went in to buy grapefruit for my grandmother and I give them credit for having fresh produce, but the selection is very limited in terms of food and it's mostly catered to mexican and latin american groups. If you're looking for a broader selection try another market where at least the food selection is not limited to hispanic food choices. read more

I did all my produce shopping here for the two years I lived in the neighborhood, and it's most definitely a produce market. Limited selection aside from produce, and depending on the day your choice of produce can be really good or pretty "meh". I really liked that they carry large aloe leaves, and a pretty wide variety of seasonal produce as well. During the summer months you can get a large watermelon for around $3.00! However, like other reviewers have said, the aisles are small and crowded, so you really need to know what you want and where it is so you can get in and get out. The meat freezer selection is pretty terrible and the quality is poor. I bought meat from West Lawn a few times and each time it was fatty and just not worth the price. A lot of the employees do speak English, but many of the box boys and stockers speak only Spanish, so come prepared with basic Spanish skills, or be prepared to ask someone else for help. The deli counter has a decent selection as well, but again most of the employees behind the counter only speak Spanish, so you'll have to point and gesture to get what you need. This was never a problem for me, but I was in the minority when I shopped there. Overall, I liked shopping here and only stopped because I moved further away. I recommend this market for produce only, because there are other local stores and supermercados for your everyday items, but the produce is generally pretty good. read more

This is my neighborhood grocery store. I usually come here for emergencies like if I were to run out of milk or I forgot the eggs. They have pretty much everything you need from Mexican to polish items...you can find it here. The downside is that it's so freaking small! The ailes are too close to each other and it doesn't help the customers walk in the store with all their kids and shopping carts. I shop here almost daily for my groceries. They're prices for fresh fruit and vegetables really can't be beat. If your at the deli try the chicken salad, it's fantastic. The employees are all very friendly, and they are always happy to help you if you need something. The prices on meat used to be better, but they are still way cheaper then Jewel. This is pete's market. i agree with one of the reviews about the men always staring at the women. What I do find a little unsettling is that I haven't seen any white butchers or stock personnel so when i ask where something is in the store, they don't speak english. I have been a loyal customer in the past but I shop here less and less. potato salad has ABSOLUTELY no flavor. just has a little eggs, lots of potatoes and mayo. The original recipe was sooooooo much better. Celery, eggs, onions just bursting with flavor. i also don't like that they can't tell you the price of something over the phone...ie lunchmeat. I go there once in a while to do some quick shopping. It's difficult to shop their due to their small aisles. I'm giving this store 2 stars because I just finished calling the store and Linda answered. She lacks customer service skills. Why handle calls if you can't answer calls in a way to make customers feel welcomed. Anyways, I called their to ask for a price on a certain item and she says to me that they don't give prices over the phone. I was able to call their sister store 'Pete's Market' and with no problems and great customer service I was able to find out the price of the item that I was looking for. If it was possible to give this negative stars I would. I'm a local frequent customer and today while shopping with my family my husband and I caught the manager RAMON following and taking pictures of women in the store including a very young teenage girl. When confronted RAMON apologized profusely and began running away. My husband asked to see his phone and he ran away and hid in the basement of the store and refused to come out. I asked the other employees for assistance and it seems as though they distracted us bear the entrance of the store and RAMON snook out the rear of the store and we spotted him running away through the front windows of the store! They employees allowed him to escape before the police arrived. To top it all off the employees then began to snicker and laugh at our discomfort. They also refused to call the police when initially asked. I had to call. This should be a safe environment for families to shop in. This is a disgusting act and I hope that my story spreads and these employees are fired. Had this been their mother,sister, or daughter I'm sure things would have been handled appropriately. read more
